Thanks very much for that
I have shortened my first post and took out most the spftware questions now. Hopefully it shouldn't look so daunting now, although I am a complete noob to these devices, so any more help and advice would be most appriciated

xdaIIi user, check your pm!
Put the file into windows\rings folder. It's there by default, just use activesync to explore your device.

Nice to finally meet you, great work on that rom
I had tried that but couldnt use it as a ring tone for some reason before, however I have just done it now (since I put your ext rom on) and it works nicely
Well thank you very much

Anyone help? Please
Thanks

The term cooked generally means the ROM has been modified.
There are several media players that can be used, my favourite is TCPMP which is free, only does divx, xvid, avi, mpg, wmv and the like.
Programs generally install to the main memory, wether you have a SD card or not.
If you bought a copy of Tomtom you will have the newest map, if not, try find it using torrents.
Sorry it's brief and to the point but it's late and I have work early in the morning.
Good luck.

low mem due to progs in ext rom
just came across this & had an immediate thought which may or not be of use!...
cooked into the rom means that the programs SETUP files r in the rom but wen the prog runs for the first time it'll install to default (usually main mem) then run from there causing major mem usage hence "the main memory has gone down consideranly"!
the best way of runnin ur pda is store the basic rom installation files, trying them with combos of programs & finding the best config 4 ur needs.
hope this helps

Hi mate
If these program setup files are in the rom itself, how do I find them to either run or remove?? As I bought tomtom 5.21 from my brother in law
All the other games and programs that I have put on I have installed on my 256mb sd card, thats why I was unsure about the space
Thanks

I think I am need of psychological help trying to follow what is what in this thread, anyone got a straight jacket????
Alarm using MP3s:
There is no way to use a mp3 on the standard phone, you will need some 3rd party software that has an alarm function. SPB time maybe, not sure but have a look at their site.
If having a loud alarm tune is your priority (i.e. not to have lovely music to wake you up), you can always convert the mp3 into a WAV to put into your device WINDOWS dir to be used as alarm.
Be careful. I tried putting on a 3MB WAV as alarm before and it seems to whacked my unit a bit, need to do a soft reset. So, don't try anything too big.
ALARM
GOOGLE for MORTPLAYER - a freeware which allows you to set alarms too
Re: ALARM
Hi All,
Converting file into wave does work. But there is this free 3rd party software called MobiAlarm which works perfectly fine and you can use any mp3 song as your wake up alarm. You can download the same from the following link:
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=587
Enjoy!

And best of all there is a choice of page poll 8mb 6mb and 4mb roms, note that the lower the page pool the more ram you will have but performance will decrease.
For ram freaks I may be inclined to post a rom with 2mb page poll! But bear in mind that you may miss 1 year of phone calls before the device rebbots.ehe
A special thanks goes to Bepe and Risidoro for helping with the page poll business.
Credit also goes to everyone that created the freeware software included in the rom ,and also everyone that helped testing the rom.

Thanks for this rom, I really liked the first one but soem of the problems were too much to live with and I was very close to going back to one of the earlier ones.
I dont know much about page pools but from the first post here you say a smaller page pool the less performance.
Why would anyone want less performance and more ram? what is the benefit of more ram?
Thanks again
I have just downloaded and will no doubt spend the next few hours salivating.

Yep.. To be specific I didn't have any audio bug, was happy.. Until i received a call.. Then audio from the player came out.. And it's the same every time
After soft reset audio is OK.. After a call - everyone hears my music and calls.. BTW. This is with headphones plugged in, on G4 (
Nice Work... Gonna give it a try right away
hail to the mighty one
Glad to hear the about the page pool guys, about the sd booting slower I guess that's why in the previous rom all the shortcuts I had for apps on the start menu that were installed on the sd would have blank icons.
Also registry wizard already installed? genious guys, pure and simple genious. Word of advice though, since registry wizard won't recognize the AKU version it won't dissable some options that you shouldn't play with, namely on "TWEAKS 2" page "Taskbar Date/Time" be sure to uncheck that as it will be checked by default and if you apply that tweak the area where the clock is of your taskbar will probably get screwed up. I know of at least that one, I pretty much use all the other ones with no problems.
Anyways can't wait to play with the proper versions of these roms (I had installed the one with the broken TCMP, but before I said anything Faria had already noticed and was already reuploading the fix..... what a guy)

from the WM blog:
The Page Pool
Applications use RAM in two ways. There is code that runs, and there is data that is created while it is running. On a NOR device, the code can run directly from the ROM and not be loaded into RAM first. This process is called XIP (eXecute In Place). NAND devices can't XIP, so their code is loaded into RAM and executed from there. If you don't have a Page Pool, this code is loaded into normal RAM. The Page Pool is a mechanism to limit how much code is loaded into normal RAM. With a Page Pool, we can unload code that hasn't been used in a while and reload it later if we need to. We can't do that without a Page Pool.

Even after reading that it is still not clear what the paging pool is used for - can't understand why it increases performance!? Does anybody have a better description - didn't find anything when googling...
How I understand the explanation: if there is no page pool at all then all the started apps will go into RAM and reside there. With a page pool code that is "not needed" at the moment will be unloaded and reloaded (from NAND) later. But then - where is the performance boost??
Tried downloading about 5 times so far and it bombs out right at the end?
Is it just the amount of people trying to download it simultaneously

I'm no programmer, but it sounds quite a lot like the use of Virtual RAM back in the day of DOS and whatever the heck they called RAM between 640-1024K. The bigger the 'window' for swapping non-current data between RAM and a HDD, the better the speed performance.... I remember that there was also a king of tipping point, below which swapping was effectively one-way, and above which it was effectively two-way.
Regardless of how page pooling actually works, are there any guidelines or rules of thumb for page pool size versus free program memory after soft reset?
(While I'm not a "RAM hog", I do prefer more than less, as I live with MSVC, emoze, and sometimes a GPS app)

mmmhhh - let me guess - 1MB less PP means 1MB more free RAM...
But I still don't understand the sense of a PP - on a desktop the page file is just needed if you don't have enough RAM - it doesn't boost the performance, just let's you run more apps at once if you just have little RAM (BTW, yesterday I saw a PC with 128MB RAM which was running WinXP - unbelievable...)...
most of the time when i go to play songs it gives me the critically low memory and will only let me close the audio manager program. I've got a 6mb page pool. I'm using the tmob wing base RUU which probably eats up a ton of RAM though. So are there any suggestions on how to go about fixing this or freeing up more memory?
I'd like to make an ultra lite release for the wing. But I don't have much time to learn how to cook right now...
Audio manager took up significantly less memory than WMP for me. Do you have the audio manager installed to your device or memory card (I can't remember if it gives you the option)?
Also, how many mp3s (I assume) are you trying to play? Check to see how much memory you have left after you open audio manager. Make sure you have other programs closed as well--meaning they don't show up in the task manager; not just pressing the OK button to minimize the program.
It's installed directly to the device. Also, It happens when I open an album usually, which is like 13 songs. It scans the files by there tags so it's hard to get around it.
Everything in the task manager is closed as well. I believe it's just the low amount of memory available on the Tmob default RUU (even with 6mb page pool). I'm waiting for a lighter weight firmware to come along.
sorry wrong topic..

Why not just do the quick pagepool fix. Then you don't have to worry about reinstalling a rom or anything, it's all automated and just adjusts your pagepool size. Takes like 2 seconds, plus reboot.
yeah thats what ive been using. im about to try "TMO Wing Original ROM with TouchFlo added" wish me luck.
I have had the same problem.
I am using the stock tmo wing rom.
are the newer roms worth it. I know they where when I had the mda, but feel like treating the Wing as a much more sacred devise
yeah man the roms people are releasing are way better. i think they all pretty much have htc home built in by default (including audio manager) and they don't give me any memory problems.
i recommend trying out touch~itv2.0, just make sure you have the t-mobile RUU downloaded in case of brick(it happened to me alot until i standardized my rom flashing procedure, and even then it still happens sometimes)
the only thing is that if you wish to try touch~it v2.0 windows media player is set as the default for htc home so to change it to audio manager follow these directions:
1.open up either total commander or phm regedit (they both are included in touchit2)
2. navigate to HKLM/Software/HTC/Music Plug-in and change the music player value from 1 to 2
3. start the audio manager from the programs folder and then exit it
4. soft reset
worked perfectly for me just keep in mind touchit2 has the wing default page pool size of 12mb so you'll want to use quick page pool changer (the one with all the batch files) and set it to like 4mb or 6mb. and overclock too so you get better performance.
once htc home is integrated with audio manager correctly and you have a memory card it's like having a really nice touch screen mp3 player
let me know if this works alright for you!
Thanks I took the plunge today.
Installed Touch it lite. I bricked the phone 2 times, but am up and running. I like it so far, much better.
I feel like a donkey for waiting so long
yeah i had touch it lite for a day. and then i tried to flash to pdaviet .14, but it just kept bricking my phone. so then i tried flashing to touchit lite again but it just kept bricking my phone so i ended up just using the official RUU for a day or so and then flashing touch~it2, which i think is the best so far. you should try it if you have any stability problems with touch~it lite.
It's day 2 so far. Lite is working just right. But will keep the version 2 in mind should I feel the need. Clocked at 260 and ticking right on
yah i had mine at 260 as well but it kept freezing and crashing and rebooting so i lowered down to 247. everything works fine anyways
Before anyone mentions it, I am aware TCPMP is the preferred media player for a lot of folks. I am not a big fan, as it requires me to spend a lot more time converting Playlists and MP3 files (so I can trim down my home preference for 256kbps MP3 -> something smaller for on-the-go)
And... I am supposed to get these features out of the box with what I have already paid for and installed, however, I have been fighting with Windows Media Player syncing for 3 nights now.
I think the gist is that the sync is taking forever and keeps losing a connection part of the way into the sync. I used to have this happen with XP under several different permutations of Active sync and WMP but figured WM6 and Vista would have corrected this issue.
So it has not, and to try and get things moving, I thought why don't I just copy over my files from my old flash cards (since they were already converted to 160kbps wma). Still doesn't help as even though the song is on the flash card WMP still goes through the conversion step before checking to see if the song is already on the device. So I am stuck wating for over 700 songs to be "reconverted".
In addition, the few songs I mistakenly purchased via WMP in the pre Urge days pops up a rights prompt on my mobile device asking if I want to download the license. Clicking yes brings me to a web page that shows a button to validate "I already own this song" that can not be clicked!!!!
I mapped some buttons in WMP Mobile, and now when I try to navigate to the start menu with the buttons, the dPad up and down let me walk the menu items, but clicking the center button does nothing, as WMP will not transfer control of this button to the OS.
And, as if this isn't enough already, in the new WM6 version, you still can not navigate the library tree using the dpad, you must use the stylis, how funnoying!!!
Shouldn't MS be able to get this right??? How many iterations of both the PC and WM versions of this software have they made and I still can not do something so simple as to select a list of playlist to be synced and have it ork!!!!! It's no wonder Apple is kicking their butt. I am not a big fan of iTunes/iPods, but at least they work!!!
Is this just par for the course? Shouldn't we expect these programs to work out of the box as advertised?

In a word, yes, it could.
Don't know if it will though. How was this program advertized to work out of the box? I have read nothing about that.
Use Window Mobile Device Center instead to transfer your files. You mention something or other about playlists but I can't figure out what you mean or how you want it to work, but I hope you find an app that can do all that for you, to replace WMP.
The phone works great for me. Just think outside the box a little and stop relying on WMP to do so much work for you if you don't like the way it does it. Apple has a way of making products that have a WOW effect, but which will show severe limitations after the initial thrill wears off. TyTN II is much better in ways of customization, flexibility and features if you take the time to tweak and adjust stuff.
Dunno about playlists, but I just drag and drop mp3s over to the sd card using a card reader. No activesync file size issues, converting issues, ect. Heck, AT&T says the tilt can handle up to a 32 gig sd card, so why shrink them?

You're absolutely right, WMP mobile sucks in every which way. Don't let the purists tell you otherwise and if they do, suggest they try playing the same media file with HTC audio Player and compare the memory usage between them! WMP is on its Nth iteration, its part of Windows Mobile core applications and it still bites, how could this possibly be? I guess it's right up there with Microsoft's battery draining implementation of RIM/Blackberry push email.

Don't go pointing fingers at push e-mail for battery drain. I would look at for ISA server/NAT/Firewall for the battery issue. You most likely have the HTTP(s) timeout set too low. It is set too low by default on all of these solutions. So you have to manually change it. That WILL dramatically lower the battery consumption of push e-mail.

Holy crap! Are they serious, or is that market speak for "about 8 gig really"?
Yes, WMP sucks. It doesn't save my playlists, bugs trying to do so and often loses playlists due to common error and requires me a few minutes to fix and a few hours to recover.
However TCPMP stops playback when I close the screen and I hate it just for that.

What this means is that the Kaiser/Tilt is compatible with the SDHC format. The biggest capacity the SDHC format will ever be will be 32gb, however, the biggest one that even exists right now is 8 gb, and the biggest one that you can actually buy is 6 gb. Don't expect a 32 gb micro sd card anytime in the near future.
By the time micro sd cards reach 32 gb, I'm guessing the SDHC protocol will be old news anyway.

It's not a registry tweak. In this case it is a simple setting in ISA. There are registry tweaks as well, but most are covered in updates.
12 Mb is okay with me, our data is unlimited. So it is much cheaper then BB.

As soon as I get to the computer (i am here from herald) I will upload you another office version.
maybe only word and excel? Or you wwould whole office?
Here's a few .cabs I have. These all install to the Storage Card. I have more, but they install to the phone.
Okay the office .cab fails to load to this site -- tried many times. I think there is a problem here -- I tried zipping it also. It says it will accept up to 8 mb .zip files and 5 mb .cab files but its not true.
Maybe the moderators could take a look at this.???
I've had many many files fail to upload. I think once you get about 2 or 3 mb it always fails.

i myselfe have troubles with uploading zips....
but it is still better to upload to a host...
becuase the xda-dev server is getting bigger and bigger hehe
Yeah, I don't subscribe to any hosts .... are there any free ones you can upload to?
This is why I gave up on my Thread to post all .cab files for the Wing all in one place. I had alot of .cabs that failed. I just abandoned ship on that Thread -- got too frustrating.
I still think its a good idea to have a central .cab data base.
Perhaps they could change the limit on the uploads. We try to play by the rules and color within the lines. But just think the limit should be accurate. If it only accepts up to 2 mb then that should be clear.
Just a thought.
