Someone here living in the UK posted that he got Orange UK desimlocked for free his mobile.
What I can tell you is: If you have some time and some money to lose calling Orange Custumer Service (I recommend you to call them not from your mobile but at 0825 005 700 from your home or office number because it's much cheaper) and if you find also a credible excuse to SIM unlock you phone, you have a possibility to get it. My excuse was I was going to Australia for 6 months on holidays and Orange mobiles there have not SIM card, so I needed to use my phone with other operator's SIM cards, because calling from Australia 6 months with my Orange Pro plan was too expensive and I couldn't buy a prepaid SIM card from Orange Australia and, obviously, I couldn't use a prepaid SIM card form other operator because my phone was SIM locked... I added that I have more than 400 addresses, phone numbers and emails in my SPV M2000 (which is true), so I couldn't see other possibility that to ask them to unlock my phone.
After a few calls and talk with some people, going to my France Telecom Shop (I made most calls to the Orange Customer Service from there, which I didn't pay), pretending that I had no clue that the phone was locked when I bought it...
After a few calls they proposed me to unlock my mobile for 76 euros. I bought it on December 30th, so it's still a good deal if you compare that a desimlocked Qtek costs more than 800 euros at Darty and I paid for mine only 475 euros. Then I realized that if I insisted a bit more, I could have it for free... and IT WORKED OUT!
They finally gave me the code to unlock the mobile.
I cannot give you here my IMEI number, but the code they gave is 79064041
Well, guys, maybe this works also in other Countries with other operators... you just have to be patient, to be lucky to speak with someone nice and pretend to be stupid.
ArtZ
when i called orange i found out they have to get the unlocking code from HTC.i wonder if htc can be contacted directly and code gotten from them.

I got the same comment from O2.....needs to go via HTC
now if we could recruit someone from HTC we could pay them some serious money worldwide !!!
Does the M2000 have any preinstalled orange themes in it?
if so, can someone post them
Guys,
After a few calls to Orange Custumer Service pretending to be a real stupid, they asked me my IMEI number (which they knew already because I made a mistake and the lady at the other end of the line corrected me). Then, they asked my my name and address (I suposse to be sure of my identity) and they gave me code. Nobody spoke to me about HTC... I even think that the person I spoke with knows about HTC...
It wasn't a very easy thing but it took me only 3 hours to get it.
My fisrt call was from home and the rest from France Telecom office just a few meters away from where I live.
Regards,
ArtZ
I have just got off the phone with HTC regarding "invalid serial" coming up when I try to register my TyTN II on e club. After searching the guy found out my phone is actually a middle eastern import which is why it will not register.
I bought my phone in good faith from a UK based company and UK website. I have since been on the phone to them demanding they swap my phone for an English one and they have since rung me back saying no problem (probably because they know they shouldnt have been selling imported phones)
Anyway guys just a heads up for those of you who are having trouble registering in e club.
Sorry I am confused. How is somebody who buys from the Middle East supposed to register at e-Club
Regards
I'm really confused about this as well - I'm having the same issue... And I assumed that my serial number containing "GB" meant I had a UK phone...
If by Import you mean "fake" that of course is a different story... But why wouldnt we be able to register a phone made by HTC from anywhere?
This phone better not be a grey market phony!
I'm in the US BTW and bought my phone from a US importer as there is no US version of this phone until the AT&T version comes out.
The guy I spoke to at HTC said that because my phone is a middle eastern import I would only be able to register at a middle eastern site. Also they said that the middle eastern phones should never have been sold in the UK and HTC themselves are investigating how they got here and who's selling them.
I too have GB in the serial which again made me think I had a UK phone. There is no problem with the phones it just means that I cannot register on e club and when HTC bring out updates or upgrades I would not be able to update my phone. Thats why I'm getting it replaced.
I just tried updating my serial number as well. I bought my Tytn II from a Canadian reseller and have the GB in my serial number as well. It tells me Serial number is invalid when I try to register. I emailed the webmaster regarding this issue and will hear back soon. I hope the serial number issue is resolved.
Well... This is not good news. I guess I need to get on the horn to the people I bought this from and find out if I have any recourse.

I also emailed and recieved no reply. Best to ring them they will search for your serial number while you are on the phone and tell you what phone you have.
OK... I smell bull on this from HTC.
I went to the Middle East & Africa HTC web site and tried to register there. Got the same result. It sounds to me like they just don't have their database up to date. The Middle Eastern e-Club link goes to the exact same page as all the other languages / regions.
Desktopflame... Do you have GB in your serial number??
Was the store you bought it from MobilePlanet by any chance?

Nope... Bought it from http://www.onthegosolutions.com AKA http://htcphonestore.com
I just got off the phone with HTC support and even they are confused... They told me I have the US version of the phone and I still can't register.
None of this makes any sense to me whatsoever.
WOW, that sucks. Without a serial number you cannot regisiter correct?
I also have a TyTN II with GB in the serial number and I get the same "invalid serial number" message when trying to register. I am also in the US and bought mine from Smart Mobile Gadgets.
I just tried to register in the Middle Eastern site and got the same issue .. and like sqadan said ... it points back to the same site I tried to register at when I tried US and UK.
Question ... People getting the "Invalid Serial Number" problem, Did your phone come with TomTom on the application cd? Mine did NOT and I thought the UK version of the phone came with it.

Nope... no TomTom on my disk. I have a feeling HTC never intended for any units to be sold in the US until they were released by US carriers. When I spoke to HTC support, they said I can call for tech support, and also, that if a new ROM is released, we should be able to call the UK support line to get it. I take all of that with a grain of salt though since she really seemed kind of confused about the whole issue.
well..my device has a GB on the serial # although I bought it from Gitex
I have registered with no problems
however I can't see a thing in the downloads page
and changing the region does not do anything

There won't be anything there on the downloads page until they release some updated Rom or other software...
I have my S710 registered and the downloads page is empty as there are no updates for the phone.

I am in the US and bought my UK version TyTN II from Elite-Electronix and had no issues registering with HTC e-club. My serial had a GB in it AND I did get the TomTom Taster version CD in the box. I hope that the website you all bought your TyTN II's from aren't scammers. That grey market crap just wouldn't be right! Good luck to all! I've been there before myself with another phone but got it worked out.
I'm at home now and I just took a closer look at the box my phone came in... Unlike the box my S710 came in - one of the translations on the back is indeed in arabic indicating that this is probably a middle east market device.
I still don't understand what difference that should make as all the phones are identical from a hardware / software stack perspective. What if I went overseas and bought this phone? I should be able to register it.

Same for me, I have a GB and bought mine from MobilePlanet. No issues registering.
no lets get some things straight here your talking about the 6th and 7th letter of the serial number correct? I also have GB there and had no problems registering my Kaiser on the HTC site. I bought mine from Mobilecityonline.com but from there store in person here in NYC. I also got the TomTom teaser on my CD... SO something is fishy here people! Wish you all the best in this!
Last thing on the outside of the box on the back right above the Windows Mobile sysmbol on the bottom left is there the TomTom symbol? mine has TomTom with the 2 hands over ther globe symbol
I have noticed that i have to go to the English Europe region to see support for the Kaiser since it has not been released in the USA yet by AT-T
Sorry if this has been discussed, I did use the search function but those things are next to useless, or maybe that’s just me.
Anyway,
Bought an HTC Diamond from Carphone warehouse 3 months back, it was on an Orange contract.
The phone is an HTC branded phone, no Orange logos or Orange menus or ANY sort, in fact the only thing Orange about it, is the sim card!
Tried to download the latest ROMS from HTC's site and I can’t have them, they told me to speak to Orange, I did. Orange told me that it's not there problem as I never got the phone from them, and HTC are to sort it out.
So now no one will touch my phone, HTC are insisting that Orange deal with it and vice/versa.
Do I have a legal entitlement to latest firmware/ROM updates?
Any advice on who I can speak to?
I'm currently waiting tfor HTC to call back after telling them there computer is WRONG and I have an HTC device not an Orange one!
I'm frustrated and annoyed, customer service! Really? well i'd like some service and a faster phone would be great!
Cheers.
Kev Laws
You seem to be on a war path leading to nowhere.
Why don’t you just take the easy route and download one of the official ROMs from this forum.
If your really against that then just give it to carphonewarehouse to repair, it will come back with the latest ROM on it. Just let them know you have various software issues.
Oh and legally in the UK your contract is with the retailer, in this case carphonewarehouse
I have tried on numorus attempts to download ROMs from here and have yet to find one that I can get to work on my phone.
Also the thought of flashing my phone is not appealing to me as I have ALOT of very sensitive and important infomation on it.
I understand what your saying about using this site rather than chasing them down but really I shouldnt have too, the customer service shold be there, regardless of where I bought the phone.
As for going tot he carphone warehouse, thanks I'll try that on Monday.
Cheers
Even if you use a genuine HTC rom it will have the same effect as as cooked rom from here. They basically format a reload the os on the rom. The internal storage does not get touched.
I would personally back up the data you have.. flash it. That way your not stuck with orange or HTC
you are entitled to the official "Orange" ROM update when it comes out (IF it comes out - orange tend not to release updates)
If you want to update your ROM you can but you WILL loose all your data on the phone (not internal storage) unless you back it up. You will also have to re-install all of you software.
to update to the latest ROM download RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE_1.93.405.1_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.exe from http://www.duttythroy.net/download-area.html?task=viewcategory&catid=8&site=2&start=10 (this is the official 1.93 ROM from HTC)
before you flash it you probably need to install hardspl http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211 This is because your phone will be locked to Orange (although as you got it from CPW it might not be)
So in summary:
Backup
Flash Hard SPL
Flash 1.93
restore data
reload programs
Hope this helps
The contract you have with orange is purely for the airtime, the phone is there to allow you to make the calls, generate orange profit!
AFAIK orange have no legal obligation to help you with the phone, when they do its more of a courtesy thing.
Now if you had bought, an orange branded mobile from an orange store you'd be in a lot stronger position, as it is an official orange product with their branding I believe they'd have to help you.
I used to deal with orange and windows mobile from a business point of view, we had better support that the average customer and orange only ever released one firmware upgrade in the time I dealt with them, and that was to address a problem we were experiencing with roaming.
Backup your phones data, (spb backup) and install one of the far superior ROM's from this site (after getting yourself familiar with the upgrade process)
Then look at another sevice provider, one who offers better customer support (in general) better data packages, and cheaper contracts.
NB: None of this post is from a professional legal adviser and should not be used as such, its from my experience of orange, and a bit of trading standards experience....

Fellow XDA-devs,
When I was in US for work I bought myself a T-mobile G1 and used the TM plan of my employer for use in the US. When I moved back (quit my job in an unhappy way), I had an ex-colleague sim unlock my phone via his account number through T-mobile customer support.
After one month the device wouldn't read my Belgian Mobistar SIM-card, and I even tried other providers including T-mobile in the Netherlands.
It took me about 4 months to get the my T-mobile G1 repaired.
Because it's a T-mobile simlocked device and an US device every European repair center denied the repair.
Check this forum post at the Official HTC community forums for more info about the first part of this adventure. Still unanswered
hxxp://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/40/t/808.aspx (replace the x's, new forum users can't post urls. Sry mods/admins for the extra work )
The device finally got board swapped when repaired at HTC USA. (Big tnx)
Now that I have my device back it's again SIM locked to T-mobile US and because it's another IMEI code my old unlock code doesn't work anymore.
Since I got back I ain't a T-mobile customer anymore and my ex-colleague also quit I can't get the sim-unlock code.
But to get the code from T-mobile I just need a willing person to provide me with the permission to unlock my phone via his/her account.
Anyone willing to help, please?

Simple. http://www.unlock-tmobileg1.com/
I haven't tried it but it should work.
Already tried several services.
None can provide the code.
All you need to do is provide a Tmobile customer with your phones IMEI. They can contact customer care with that and request the unlock code to be emailed to themselves and then after receiving said email can PM you the information on here. That way you have nothing to do with their account.
The reason I'm posting this is because your wording made it sound like you wanted someone to allow YOU to call in on their account.

Hi Guys,
as some of you are aware if you purchase a 02 HTC HD7 (hd3) phone you can not request an unlock code before the 12 months of your PAYG term..... after 12months you would be able to request a unlock code.....
Now, as like me I cant wait to get my hands on this device, hence I'm ordering my phone from them on Monday 25th and unlocking the device on Tuesday !
I've used this site to unlock HTC phones ONLY and they always have worked, my latest one was my HTC HD2 from O2.
So, if you want to unlock your HTC HD7 (3) from O2... click on the link below and get your unlock code, please note at a cost of course !!!

Thanks for this. Are you affiliated to them? Just seems strange to use a trackable URL shortener for a standard URL.
I have seen confirmed reports that http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/ works to unclock the HD7. Any confirmation these guys definitely work?
+1 for htcimeiunlock.com. Worked fine for my UK O2 HD7
There are a lot of websites that can get your phone unlocked.
Those two methods are some of the best ones though.

How much is unlocking service from this website? Can't find the price there!
Thanks
@ curvyjomanjy: It cost me just over £16 to unlock from htcimeiunlock.
Paid by Paypal and received my unlock code within 10 minutes, excellent service.
The only branding is an O2 splash screen and an O2 theme ( which you can change ) other than that nothing.
Also O2 lock the search engine to yahoo, no google I'm afraid
O2 lock the search engine to Yahoo, or did you mean Bing?
The fact there is no option to change it from Yahoo, is disgusting. I'm actually surprised Microsoft allowed that under what is otherwise quite strict "Requirements" for using the OS.
if i get this phone, and unlock it, will o2 be able to tell? can they block the phone or anything silly like that? and if so what can i do?
and what would happen if there was a fault within 12 months, would o2 take back / exchange?

To be fair, O2 have been good with unlocking this phone through their own unlock scheme, unlike the Dell Streak exclusivity deal.
I've heard a lot of people requesting the code from O2 and getting it, but as I couldn't be done with waiting around, I got it down from a well known site on here RE the HD7 unlock for £16 or thereabouts.
By law, O2 can't stop you from unlocking, they can merely be a pain and not do it for you for free....so they're pretty good.
As for returns etc, they've been good with me in the past. You obviously have a few days to return it for a straight refund as well, which O2 honor where as some others try to fight this!
Overall, this is the one side of things O2 are normally very good for from my experience. Every other thing, they're a nightmare!
If I unlock it, how do I go about changing the network settings etc, does the phone automatically pick up the new connection settings ?

The HD7 is VERY good for this. When you enter the new sim, it gives you a list of drop-downs for the carriers....

Well if there is a fault then you would need to deal with HTC and not O2 as HTC will be the ones to fix it. So unlocking it shouldn't matter.
i just bought new O2 HD7, and unlocked it using HTCimeiUnlock.com this guys are incredible in support, very professional, and charge you USD 25, but trust me they are every penny worth.
