RE: Extra Storage
Another method I used.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Alpine/Extra Storage unlocker
Copy the exe in the zip file to your Alpine, then tap to run on pda. It doesn't show a finished message.
I use 'resco explorer', with show hidden etc in the settings, I haven't tried to vew with only the standard file explorer, it may work as well.
Goto Windows on your pda and you should see a folder called 'shared' it should show 60.9mb free. If you do use Resco Explorer and hold your stylus on the shared folders and select properties, you can change all the attributes (Hidden, Archive, Read, Write and ROM), although I haven't needed to.

Hello
I'm be happy that a way seems to be real, but it do not work on my 2020I.
I select unlock Extrom, but the Extrom is no visible, so i select Unhide and it say to me to do soft reset. After it, i don't see any Extrom. Only way is to use original LoadVisk, but it is writeProtected.
Where i am in fault ?
Thank's

I used the Loadvisk on my XDAIIi and I can write to it etc (Shared folder in windows).
Use Resco file explorer to change the shared folder attributes. Make sure you configure Resco to show hidden files etc.

Loadvisk
Here is Loadvisk program I used on XDAIIi, it may help
Confused loadvisk does not access ext rom?????
I'm confused about loadvisk. I thought it unlocked the ext ROM, but no it only gives access to your RAM not to extended rom.
I tried the other tool on here unhide, unlocked, where do I access the rom in my file explorer?
so please ignore my previous posts about loadvisk.
How can I reverse loadvisk to hide the shared folder again?
sorry if this is a bit jumbled, I'm just finding out about this stuff myself
Thank's for reply
But it do not work.
If i use loadvdisk_493.exe, it show Extended_Rom as entry, that is the same result as LoadVdisk.exe that exist in Windows directory. I can't modify files inside Extended_Rom and it as this name, not Shared folder. It is not a folder but new media and with resco 5.22 i can't change attributes because it do not permit to media, only with files or folder.
Secondly, if i use Exttrom_200_250.exe, i can't write to in Extended_Rom.
Is this write for you ??

RE: EXT Memory
Hi,
Loadvisk has nothing to do with extended memory, it creates a virtual disk of your Program RAM (see 'Memory' on you PDA). This shows as a folder called 'shared' in Windows, when you copy files to this folder, the look at your memory, you will see that it stores in your program section of your memory and so I wouldn't bother with it.
I have had a good look around and I can find nothing to unlock the true extended memory, only the tool you used to unhide it.
You can flash your extended memory with the 2577 method, but this is not ideal for users who just wnat to access and write to ext memory.

There is another method to write to the extended rom but is far more involved than the method DAz mentioned. It does actually write to the Extended ROM so it therefore survives a hard reset and allows you customise the ROM with programs and remove stuff you don't use like the bloody annoying O2 active crap.
I've used it and can say that with a little patience it is fairly easy to do, although trial and error is required sometimes. Some programs don't seem to install from a hard reset however most do (Pocket Plus, Resco Explorer, TCPMP etc work fine).

Cooking a rom...

Hi, I followed the thread: "How to reconstruct a dumped ROM"... (obviously I had, before, did a rom dump!). Now I have a directory named "dump" with several subdirs.
In the step 3) there is written: "After this step you can optionally edit the OS files with the proper tools"... now the question is: what are these proper tools? I searched in the forum, in the other threads but I didn't find anything... My needs are: to delete some programs that are in the rom (for example Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, other..) in order to obtain more space, but to install other tools at the free space.
Thanks in advance for your help....
Great question ! i can't help you , but i wait for answers ....
I asked the same thing the other day, and got an answer(thx again to him).
Actually, I'm doing it right now, as a test I've successfuly dumped and rebuilt lsvw's rom using enhanced imgfs tools batch files, nbdump.bat nbname.nb & nbbuild nbname.nb, now I'm removing files from the rom and maybe add some other, like that quick gps thingy, latest msn(optimized for trinity, removed vga resources), phone pad, and some other thing on my custom extrom.
I had the same doubt as you, but it seems that we're overcomplicating things, you can simply use the file explorer to remove files from that dir, beware of which files you remove/alter.. initflashfiles.dat has some operations to be done after flashing the device(creating folders, renaming files, moving them to startup/start menu/etc folders), I thought that if the file didn't exist on the windows folder, whatever invoques initflashfiles.dat would crash, but it doesn't seem to be the case, I haven't put this to test, but I've found several missing files on the initflashfiles.dat(and a typo, "floder", go figure what it means - lazy/rushed editing IMO), so there seems to be some tolerance to the operations contained in that file.
I won't edit the wiki until I'm 100% sure that what I know is correct, but to sum it up:
dump the files
add/delete files with explorer
edit the registry using rgucomp
edit initflashfiles.dat using the original windows notepad & use an hexeditor to remove the 1st 2 bytes
run NBBuild.bat to create the *.nb file
OSchecker.exe to validate the *.nb file
nbhtool.exe to create the nbh
flash it(I prefer the sd card method)
Code:
rgucomp needs setting _FLATRELEASEDIR environment variable to current directlry like this:
set _FLATRELEASEDIR=.
Dump default.hv/user.hv file to .reg with:
rgucomp.exe -nologo -o default.hv > default.reg, then add line "REGEDIT4" to the beginning of REG file.
Modify the .reg file to your liking, (save it in UTF-16 with CR+LF terminations and a new line at the end of the file) and convert it back to .hv
And don't forget to flash Olipro's Hard SPL before, it may save your device.
"and convert it back to .hv"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1186635&postcount=1
(no wonder I didn't find this info, forum search is almost useless, googled for rgucomp and voilà, first result(above) right answer)

how to install cab file?

Hey I am new, and I am wondering how do you install cab files? I downloaded the midlet manager and i extracted it on my pc, and i see a bunch of files but none of them are cab files, they are all unidentified, can some one help me please? much appreciated
thanks in advanced
Just copy and paste the zipped cabfile in your phone anywhere through Activesync, preferably 'My documents' folder and execute it there in the phone,it'll run and install all by itself.
Cheers!
when I extract the file,I dont see any cab files, So i just put the whole folder in my phone,I try clicking on the files and they wont open,I just get a message sayin
"There is no application associated with "00CAB10A",run application first then open this file from within the application
ok, for 'Midlet' here's how you do it as per the post in Midlet Manager by risidoro:-
------- HOW TO INSTALL ------------
- Download Risidoro's Intent MIDlet Manager version 11.1.7.1023
- extract the cab (inside the archive) somewhere in your PC (e.g. Desktop)
- copy to somewhere in your PocketPC (e.g. \storage card)
- in your PocketPC, navigate with File Manager to the cab and tap on it to install
- when asked, choose to install in the Device (and NOT in Storage Card!)
- reboot when asked
or read the thread :-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286604
Cheers!

You are NOT supposed to unpack the CAB!!!
You must copy the cab (Risidoro_Intent_MIDlet_Manager_11.1.7.1023.cab) found inside the zip file from the thread that zabardast linked to your device and simple run it (one click via File Explorer or double-click with Total Commander)
as simple as that...
thank you so much
I got it installed
ok I have a htc droid eris and I can't find the file manager on my phone to get to the files on the sdcard. so I downloaded a file manager app and when I click on the .cab file it does not just install it asks what I want to do open with kind of thing. like browser and a bunch more things I have tried most of them and nothing is working. Is there something else I need to install a .cab file with this phone or wtf is my dumb butt doing wrong to not be able to install it.
Install .cab files to unlock sd card.
Hi, think ive messed up here... can someone help or confirm my balls up!
Ive been following this tutorial to flash my hd2 with an updatable Win.7 rom;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236027
Charging ahead, installed, had a few probs along the way but worked through them... got it installed and working!
Then, moving onto step two of my plan, a dual boot of Android from sd card... :S Do you know whats coming? After re-reading the install instructions I noticed the 'Unlock SDCard' a few steps before installing the rom. :S I have now learnt that Windows mobile 7 locks the sd card to the device and is un-usable in anything else, having already messed up an 8gb and a 16gb...!
Could anyone please tell me if it is possible to 'somehow' install the .cab files to unlock the sd card...? or anyone know of a way to decrypt the sd card?
"THE SD CARD IS UN-READABLE IN MY PC AND PHONE WITH WM6.5 STOCK ROM"
If I re-install the rom from the 'back to the future' tutorial (link above), the storage is available for use on the hd2, but still cannot be seen by my PC... making it hard to install .cab file or anything else!
Both my sd cards have effectivly been high-jacked by microsoft...!
Please help me liberate my GB's...!

Transcriber for hx4700

I have just purchased an HX4700 and downloaded a WM6 rom....there are some very talented people out there. I have searched the web for any other rom to get the 'transcriber' functionality back but am not having any luck. I apologise if there is already an entry about this however I have not found it.
I did down a CAB file and copied to my pda, clicked on the setup...got a screen like html text, did a soft reset but nothing changed. It was called MS_transcriber. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Read this and this.
Download.
Thankyou CWKJ for the help.....excuse my ignorance but I'm not sure where to go with the info in the other threads.
I am running wm6.1. I extracted the 'Input Method Fix' and copied the files to my PDA. I then double clicked on the '_setup.xml' file and a list of text like html ran. I then did a soft reset of the device but the transcriber functionality is not listed as a input option.
Do I need to physically alter the registry file and if so how? I have done it on a PC many times but not a PDA.
thankyou for your patience.
By installing the cab, the registry should be correct.
There are tools like TotalCommander (freeware, google and you will find) which I use can help read registry, but do not try to meddle registry for new comers.
For both Recognizers, check if msim.dll is in \windows\ directory.
For Transcriber, check if TranscriberSip.dll is in \windows\ directory.
Using file explorer to check the files may not work as the files may by hidden. If you cannot find them, use TotalCommander as file explorer to check.
If it is not there, I will send them to you, and you just need to copy them into \windows\ directory.
I downloaded total commander. Ran a search for the "TranscriberSip.dll" file however could not find it.
I would appreciate it if you could send it to me thanks.
Shane
.....I had changed the preferences to look for hidden files as I did find the "msim.dll".....still need the "TranscriberSip.dll" from you if you could assist.
Tks, Shane
27/5/08: Disregard my last as I have solved the Transcriber issue. Was a *.cab install issue.
Tks again for the help.

Run SD Cab with autorun.exe

hello
i need to add a username into the registies for a number of devices i'm flashing. Unfortunatly the usernames all need to be different i.e. PDA001, PDA002 and so on...
I've created a number of different cab files each for a different device that will add the username in.
So is it possible to run the cab file off the storage card as part of the hard reset process. i've updated the SD card with the file Username.cab which is the name of all the cab file, then added "CAB: \Storage Card\Extended_ROM\Username.cab" in to config.txt which is in the Extended ROM. i tested it but it didn't work.
Has anyone got any ideas
Or may be have a shortcut to the cab file added into start up. Would that work?
I'd suggest that you instead edit an existing (or relatively insignificant) CAB file (that you'd probably have no use for anyway) with the registry entries/additions so that its guaranteed to be included when you do the Extended ROM customization.
Did you ensure that you copied all the files from an original extended ROM correctly (before making your modifications)?
The thing is I have around 250+ device which need flashing with the same image and as all the devices will require a different Username adding into the registies I 'll need to run an external cab file, a cab file which will be different for all the devices and it's best to run it from the SD card.
I tried to adding a cab file into the Extended ROM which will install a shortcut into the startup folder the shortcut is to the cab file on the storage card. But for some reason it didn't run.
I have a couple of SD cards with an image of my Extended rom on so if anything goes wrong i have the backups.
Whats wrong with having the 'end-user' maually execute the .CAB file?
Why don't you simply customise one PDA (the way you wan't with your preconfigured settings) (minus the user/device name), then do an entire backup using SPB BACKUP (onto a SD Card). You can then restore this image on all 250+ devices (sounds time-consuming,but it really isn't).
All the end user had to do, is to manually execute your .CAB file when they are issued the units.
This is your true answer (in my opinion):
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/?en
RE: Whats wrong with having the 'end-user' maually execute the .CAB file?
Basically the devices are used by Market research interviewers who work for us, most of whom are not familier with the devices and are not computer litterate. I'm responsible for a small support team and also the development of the devices. The software we use is already extremley simple and all they need to do is click a buttom "Connect" if the username is not already inserted they get a box "Logon Failed, please check the following details are correct." and a username and password box is displayed and they simply need to type in the id number from the sticker on the back of the pda (like PDA001).
We have just had a large project in feild and over the period we have around 200+ user. Around 50% of the call we took, at some point they had problems entering the username. As much as SPB backup would be of use, if they can't already do a simply thing like type in PDA123, asking them to do this seem like asking alot and would probabily cause more issues.
We already have all the other information in the registries for this application and the username is the only thing which isn't consistant through out.
Do you know if it would be possible to prompt them to run the cab from the sd card which enters the username into the registires on startup?

Sure it is possible. Did you already try placing a shortcut to the .CAB in "Windows\StartUp" ?. Likewise, you can easily create another script that deletes that shortcut (to ensure that its only used once).
Please keep us posted, on your developments.

Yeah, it didn't do anything. I had a cab file in the extended ROM which placed the shortcut in the dir. \Windows\startup\. For some reason nothing happened, but when I navigate to the .cab file it ran without any problems.
When you say create another scipt, how would I go about doing that? If i had an .exe it could act as a link to the cab on the SD card. i'm not familier with this kind of method. But I think that would solve the problem.
The location of the .cab is: \Storage Card\Help\UserName.cab
Thanks for the exact location. I'm just compiling something for you in visio Studio 2005, that will execute the .CAB file when run at automatically from startup (it'll do this only once).
