I received my diamond 2 on Saturday (yay) and couldn't wait to start playing with it. However it does have one major problem straight out of the box and i wonder if anyone else has experienced it.
The opera browser is very unstable. It triggers a general exception error from Windows and either constantly asks to send error reports (duely turned off!) or just shuts itself down. Anyone else experienced or found a fix?
Secondly the browser keeps trying to render in mobile mode unless i select the link to go to HTML, how do i turn that off cos the screen renders full screen beautifully.
A few other annoyances, The data connection only seems to work on HSDPA and not GPRS, this is a potential big problem.
The youtube client only works with a wifi connection, what!! HSDPA is easily fast enough to stream, is this specific to my device.
Anny assistance would be appreciated as i would like to know if these problems are specific to my device or just general annoyances.
Cheers.
I don't recognize your problems at all. Opera hasn't crashed one single time on me since I got the D2 last friday. It works very fast and stable, better than any Opera cab I installed on my old Cruise. Full screen (not mobile view) works excellent and is always default in my Opera.
I haven't deliberately used the data connection over GPRS yet, but I have seen the G symbol instead of the 3G or H symbol, when being in some areas. So at least it does see the GPRS network correctly. I have no reason to assume it wouldn't work there.
The youtube application works great too. Completely stable and fast, again not like any Youtube cab I tried on my old Polaris before. And I just tested, it works through wifi and 3g.
I'm sorry for your problems. I am really surprised on how great my Diamond2 is. I think they really hit the nail on the head this time. I don't know how to solve your problems, but if this behaviour happens even directly after you hard reset the device, I guess your only option is to send it back.
haven't had any of that really myself and i actually tried to 'overload' opera. I run it fullscreen an all.
have you tried the general discussion forums? If it's opera itself, you'll maybe find something there.
youtube is a bit sluggish at times in 'hq mode' but fine otherwise for me
why is hsdpa over gprs a problem? Both are for data, just hsdpa is quite a bit faster even when taking the fastest gprs vs. the slowest hsdpa data rate.
unless networkcoverage is an issue in your case i wouldn't personally pick 2G over 3G..
maybe you're simply the unlucky one, harsh as it may be.. have you tried HTC customer helpdesk?
I haven't had those problems with opera, haven't seen it crash once yet. Have you tried a hard or soft reset?
I do notice opera on the Diamond 2 is terribly laggy compared to opera mini on my old mobile. Tried skyfire and it's worse, iris about the same.
I found the youtube app works great over HSDPA (and wifi), now this version I do prefer and can't find any faults with it.
my opera crashes if a proxy is enabled on connection settings.
did not have any crashes as i do not use the internet
but when using quickmenu it always shows the opera runing.
you cannot stop it weird

Push internet maybe? (just guessing)
cheers for the replies. I've actually hard reset the device aswell as soft resets. however opera still remained unstable. the problem seems to be with windows though as the error message was from windows and an install of opera 9.5 beta 2 caused the same problem. seems ok now though so will have to to monitor it.
i have to say youtube is a concern as it won't connect unless on wifi.
may take some getting used to or may need sending back, either way i think the software is at fault though, i think the device itself is top notch.
I say it's ok and 30 seconds later opera crashes. dame windows and it's nuances!!
I've experienced some strange behaviour of windows and some programs on my old Cruise some time. Frequent crashes, windows errors and other annoyances, like frequently loosing activesync connection and not seeing the sd-card. In the end, it was caused by a faulty board inside the device. After replacement of the board all problems where gone. I had spent hours trying other ROM's and hard resetting before that.
What I'm trying to say is, that sometimes hardware faults are just causing minor problems, while the device works well most of the time. Then you're eager to think it's a software or ROM problem, but it ain't always. If I were you, I'd send it back. I do understand that's not something you'd really like to do when it just arrived

Tried the proxy thing?
As Trinode says you really do want to turn off the proxy setting within the connections page of WM itself. T-Mobile, for example, always adds the useless proxy setting which will almost certainly crash Opera when you look at Gmail.
Why oh why does the connection wizard still insist on adding a proxy when you clearly don't need it?
Thanks for all the replies, this forum really is bloody usefull!
I have tried the proxy thing, and was waiting to respond to test but incredibly this seems to have done the trick! Opera hasn't died since i removed the proxy. Thanks trinode.
I'm with you wibberly, can't see why on earth they need this proxy setting in there, my data connection is far more stable and opera now seems to work fine. Weird!
One thing though is that the youtube app stil doesn't register a network connection through the phone signal, WIFI only. Wonder if this is a T-Mobile data restriction? The fine print from them does say that you shouldn't stream videos. Didn't affect my last contract though. That said i can't say i'm too bothered so long as the device itself is happy.

Maybe you can try it with someone elses SIM?
Damn proxies indeed. They always block all my e-mail connections. Turning it off is the first thing I do.
I too had the opera crash problem, but after ttrying to get hotmail to work in TouchFlo natively by turning off the Proxy settings, I've killed two birds with one stone... Stable Opera + Hotmail in TF3D! Wohoo.
Now, who can help with my next query?
I've tried to set the max number of tabs to 6, (as I that's the way I had it set up on my old D1,) under opera:config, and change the user id to sgh-i900 so I can get BBC iPlayer, but doesn't matter how many times I do this, (and press save settings, just incase you ask,) every time I launch Opera, it reverts back to it's default settings, so I'm stuck with 2 crappy tabs and no BBC iPlayer!!!!!!
Any ideas?
Is it possible to change the default Internet Browser to IE from Opera when you press "Launch Browser"?

Well, this didn't sort the problem for me. I don't use a proxy. I get the error when rss heb notify is on and it notifies for new updates. Wether I press OK or cancel there it gives the shell32.exe error.

Just to reiterate the above. I received my TD2 today on T-Mobile from mobilephonesdirect.com and Opera was a crashfest until I removed the proxy setting. IT IS A MUST DO SETTING CHANGE!

Hi, everyone. When I turn on my wifi, it seems like it tries to scan; but it does not find a network, even if I'm just a few feet away from the router. This only began this morning, and I don't get any error message. What makes things worse is that if the screen goes to sleep with the wifi on, then the phone becomes completely unresponsive and I have to pull the battery.
I've tried several things already, and even factory reset and flashing back to root did not help. Has anybody else experienced this problem?
BTW, I'm this happened when I was on Continuum 6.1, if this helps.
I'd really appreciate any guidance you could give me. Thank you so much, in advance.
Could be your WiFi antenna some how got damaged, you may try to get a replacement
just my 2 cents

Here's a free app from the Market that might get you back in business, 'FXR Wifi fix and rescue'
It's helped clear up a couple of issues I've had in the past. Hope it helps!
If you are rooted:
Delete file data/wifi/bcm_supp.conf
Delete file /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list
reboot the device and it will create these files again and you will have to enter your WiFi password again in order to connect.
Hope this helps..

I've been having some wifi issues with my phone as well and haven't been able to nail down the problem yet. I tried looking for the files you mentioned but none were there. What I did find was:
/data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-eth0.lease
/data/misc/dhcp/dnsmasq.leases
and didn't even have a data/wifi folder, let alone the bcm_supp.conf file.
Do I need to manually add these files or copy them from somewhere? I've rebooted, I've deleted all wifi networks then rebooted again, still the phone doesn't generate these files. Any ideas?
It would be helpful to know what Rom you're currently using. If it's any of the Gingerbread Roms it is a known issue. Usually toggle airplane mode remedies it.
sent from my Gingerbread Cappy using Tapatalk from somewhere on AT&T's ****ty network.

I'm using CM7 build 57, Glitch kernel v11, and root explorer. Not sure how much more permissions I can get.
Also in reply to Rhiannon, how does putting it in airplane mode help? Curious
Before everyone starts pointing me to the router - its not the router. I was able to connect to my router both at home and at work, but because I was having some other issues, I had to do a factory reset.
Now, I cannot connect to the wifi. I keep getting the message "Obtaining IP address ..." and nothing changes. I have searched high and low for a solution for this problem but I cant seem to get anywhere.
I am running Froyo stock, but before I did a factory reset, I rooted my phone with the SuperOneClick application. Now, I still have the Super User app after factory reset.
So - to reiterate - I have run the factory reset and I am currently have Froyo on my Captivate. However, once I did that, I am no longer able to connect to the internet.
Can anyone please help me figure out how I can get help connecting to Wifi again? It would be very much appreciated.

Well yes, but the problem is - it happens at EVERY wifi location and I cant feasibly go around asking everyone to reboot their router.
And another bit of information is - if I assign a static IP, my phone shows that it is connected but I cant navigate anywhere on the browser and the Market says that there is no connection.
Hopefully then that thread will help...

Try a new ROM?
Hello everybody on xda first post and it's a problem.
I've recently acquired a Samguns Galaxy S i9000B. First day trying it, everything went perfect, internet conection stable and without problems, everything else good too.
Today I encountered problems with the internet. I can no longar enter the store in my cellphone (Play store), in the internet browser (which is a default by movistar) I can only search for results in google, trying to connect to any other page returns the message "Couldn't connect to the server", whatsapp functions correctly oddly enough.
I have always been connected to the internet thorugh wi fi, which is broadcasted from my modem through a D-Link Dir 320 router, and I don't posses a multimedia plan, i.e. if I don't have access to Wi Fi I don't have acces to internet on my phone.
Lastly i must mention that I had a similar problem on my laptop, and it was solved by changing the MTU value on it.
I've tried the solutions on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790974, however, I can't do what is proposed in the first post due to the fact that My cellphone doesnt have the folder pdp0 and, it doesnt recognize the commands ip link, ip link list or ip link set. I've yet to install Busybox, however if I input ip, a list of possible commands appears, being one of them link, but it doesn't work for me.
All other solutions have been tried, such as restarting cell phone, router, pc, etc. And turning off and on wi fi save energy, etc.
Thanks for your help before hand.

1) Try to toggle Airplane mode and restart phone after a battery Pull and power button press for a min
2) Try Menu>Settings>Application>Manage Applications
Press the Menu button, then Filter, then select Running
Scroll down the list and select Device management.
Under the Storage section, press the Clear data button.
Reboot phone
3) In recovery clear data, cache and dalvik cache
4) a factory reset using settings> privacy will be the final way to solve it (only do this when you have undone any lagfix you may have done FIRST)
If this did not do it, you have no option but to flash an I9000B Rom to resolve it

Thank you for your response.
I would actually like to try some stuff with the router, as it seems this is the root of the problem. A friend of mine came with a smartphone that can "lend" internet (not sure this is the right term). After connecting to the internet his phone was lending me i could enter the google play store, load wikipedia and other pages. So it seems to be the way i'm broadcasting my wi-fi.
Having said that, I'm not sure how to begin because if wi-fi works fine for the laptop, why would it run incorrectly for my Galaxy S? I'm not sure how to modify the router to provoke an imrpovement in the conecction.
Help please? Anyone has any ideas?

google your router brand name, and they will have instructions as to how you can reset your router as well as go into its setup menu by using your web browser
Well.. suprisingly now internet works.... However it was sort of magical.
I applied a factory reset to the router (the options are now similar to the ones I had before), and the internet on my phone had the same problems through all the afternoon... Now, 5 hours later... for no apparent reason (no modifications made)... everything is working fine. I ain't one to argue with a good thing... but I'm seriously in awe wondering how the hell it worked itself out without me doing anything.
Thanks for the help by the way.
If it helps anyone else, I did make one change, however i don't see how it influenced anything. I uninstalled all updates to the google play store (reverted it back to android market) as well as erased it's data and cache.
Hi,
Idk if the note 9 forum still alive or not but i decided to give it a try.
As the title said, while using some apps or try to login some website, the wifi seems not to work but with the same wifi, I can watch YouTube smoothly as other device work smooth too.
The problem is gone if I using the VPN or data. I have done anything I can get from the internet, such as:
Reset network
Using static ip
Using dns
Disable ipv6
Reset whole phone
Wipe cache partition
And etc....
So, i wonder if anyone have the same problem and manged to solve it.

My only suggestion would be to mess with some of Samsung's WiFi connection options. Go to Settings>Wifi>tap three dots>Advanced. Perhaps there's an option in there that might solve your problem.
Recently I had a bad issue with my Camera which would open in a split like view & be stuck & not work
Tried a few things & even clear the cache of the phone & camera but did not work
formated my phone & now gives me better battery life & works more smoothly
