Reset when gps is opened - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi.
Since yesterday when I use any app tha uses the gps (tomtom, igo, cruxview) the device is resetted a few seconds after. Any idea?
I ve hard resetted and same problem
Thanks
Dani

Fixed. I post it because someone can have same issue in the future. I hard-resetted many times the device and no luck. When I started any program that used the gps then It was rebooted. Event I created a little C program that simply opened com4 (CreateFile(....)) and same result. Finally I used quickGPS, tried again and It was solved. I suppose something kept corrupt in radio module and quickgps.

Google Navigator messing up GPS Settings

gd evening all,
I need your help:
2 days ago, i was using my gps with 2 differents softwares (MioMap + BeelineGPS) i use for months , gps worked flawlessly as usual.
Then I decided to try a new soft and have installed: Google Navigator.
Google Navigator was freezing for a few seconds each time i touched a menu or anything, so i closed the program.
Since then, my GPS receiver isn't working anymore. NO program could find the gps anymore.
I suspected correctly Google Navigator messing up with the parameters of the GPS receiver (Start Menu > Settings > System > External GPS).
Indeed, GPS Program port was changed to 'none', and hardware gps to COM4 (gps access IS checked still to "Manage GPS automatically").
By memory, i remember that GPS program port should be COM4 abd Hardware gps port to none. (just the opposite of the settings i had). So i put the settings back as it.
Now :
-BeelineGPS seem to be able to "see" the gps. However, it sees NO satellites (nomally it sees some satellite and then try to calculate the first fix... but here... it doesn't see any sattellite, so can't even start calculating a fix!).
-Miomap freeze at startup now (complete freeze) , probably because of this gps issue.
-and last but not least : GPS light on the kaiser is RED (was it always red ??? i don't think so.) It s the red light at the most right of the lights row that is blinking red when launching any gps program.
Is there any other setting somewhere that this Google navigator could have messed up with ?? (a registry maybe ??) (I ve uninstalled Google Navigator , problem is still there)
Any help PLEASE, thank you, and happy new year all.
UP
I need ur help.
Can anybody tell me AT LEAST if my settings are correct for the 3 tabs of "external gps" ?
Just writing down the solution for other people who might have this problem in the future (can avoid a hard reset!)
Apparently Google Navigator changed also the registry "InterfaceType" :
I had
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver\Drivers\GPSOneDevice]
"InterfaceType"="COMM"
changed it now to
"InterfaceType"="POLL"
And here it works immediately !! got a fix in 15 seconds.
that simple
Thanks for posting the solution to your problem.
I will admit that I have not tried too many bits of software yet on the GPS port, but if all else failed then I would be tempted to do a hard reset and not install the problem bit of software again.
Next time someone has this issue they can search the threads and find this one and get it sorted
Pat yourself on the back for getting it right
I Have a similar problem with Google Navigator.
Just like you, everything was working fine until i installed Google navigator and my GPS doesnt work at all.
I read your post and noticed however that you had slightly different changes than i have.
My "InterfaceType"="POLL" stayed the same didnt change and i still cant get the GPS to work.
Please help!!
OK I finally got my GPS working. I searched and searched and realised that Like you, the registries were changed by Google Navigator.
I went through all off them and found two that were off and changed them.
DO NOT INSTALL GOOGLE NAVIGATOR.
Other than changing your registry values, it it slow as hell, nealry freezes your phone and its completly useless.
STAY AWAY

this tip was a lifesaver for me! thanks bro!!
i dont know which software messed up my registry settings (maybe gpsid tool floating around the net, or maybe one of the gps nav software i installed - mapking, mgmaps, google maps - BUT after changing the registry value back to POLL, everything works (including quickgps, which was refusing to accept any xtra.bin file)
THANKS ONCE AGAIN!

Did you, by chance, ever use Map4PDA? I had posted awhile back about Map4PDA killing the GPS in my Tilt. Twice, even. I advised anyone and everyone never to use that program until it is updated. I'm wondering if that program made the same reg change because after I used Map4PDA, I could not get my GPS working until I hard reset. Many other people had the same issue as me.
I have similar problems with Google Navigator and it was not changing my registry settings... So if anybody knows the solution please wrote down it here.

no i havent tried map4pda - i think the culprit in my case was either MAPKING or an older version of GPSID (i'm using a tytn2 with wm6 and that has its own control panel app for assigning virtual com ports to the inbuilt gps)
in any case, that simple registry change saved me from a hard reset!

Can you tell which were the two modified registries modified to "off", how you identified them and what was the changes you applied instead "off"?
Thanks.

Google Navigator 2.8 causing GPS driver failure

Google Navigator 2.8 causing GPS driver failure
I was trying GN 2.8 last week. I have successfully installed it and was trying to compare it with Tracky GPS suite. But when I started GN it was telling me that there is no GPS unit. I checked GPS settings but there was all right. So I’ve decided that it was GN failure, by some reason it can’t determine my GPS unit. So I just uninstalled it.
But the next day I’ve tried to launch as usual my i-Navy (Navitel Navigator). It also couldn’t find GPS unit. Now I knew that something was going wrong with my GPS unit. I launched other application GPS utilities, GPS test, Tracky and QuickGPS but all my attempts were unsuccessful.
I’ve done soft reset, but it didn’t help me too. I searched all the forums to find similar problems, but all advices did not help me. So I decided to backup all data with sprite backup and hard reset my Kaiser. I tried to launch QuickGPS and now it was working perfect. But after recovering all data with Sprite backup all problems returned. At that time I didn’t know that GN is causing this problem. I hard reset my Kaiser and manually reinstalled all application. I was surprised when at last I retried to install Google Navigator and the problem returned again. All programs stopped to work with GPS unit or GPS unit stopped working itself.
you should use seach next time...

vxUtil messes up my Kaiser

Hi everybody,
maybe it's of interest to anybody:
I have experienced strange problems with my Kaiser (Vario III). It wouldn't turn on after having been turned off, and I had to resort to a soft reset. I was able to trace this to the installation of the vxUtil network programs.
As I don't need the utils at the moment, I didn't install the suite after my last hard reset, so everything is fine now.

I have the vxUtil executable on my Storage Card, and after a hard reset there's no need for an install. I can run it directly. I never had problems with this app.
Hmmm ...
I think I'm getting more and different issues here, while the aforementioned problem didn't turn up again, I'm getting SoD's now that might be related to Kaiser Tweak, but it's all so inconsistent.

GPS Diagnostics tool?

Hi, I have a Diamond that seem to have a GPS not working even after reflashing with original ROM, hard reset and QuickGPS.
Is there any tool capable of giving some more information rather than just "fix not available", "GPS starting up" or similar and/or that can detect where the problem is? (everything working, needs more time, antenna broken, chipset broken, etc.)
I've tried HTC GPS Tool, GPS Tuner, GPS Test, TomTom but they don't give any useful info.
Hi Luca, I got somewhat the same problem.. whenever i start any program using the gps or testing the gps function my whole phone freezes and i have to take out the batt.
I don't know where the antenna is located but I think I broke it when I dropped in on the street 2 weeks ago
Check this thread out. I was having the exactly same problem. Now it is ok.

Disable the QuickGPS, Replace the bin files, Soft reset.
Everything back to normal!

Quick GPS stopped working

Even after I hardreset and formated internal memory card, i am still having the same problem.
It was OK before. I think it happened after I installed .net framework 3.5.
But how can I fix it? Why complete reset cannot fix it?
Please help.
After serveral hardresets. I found that it is the google maps causing quick gps to "Connection failed. Please try again later".
Is that possible the GPS has a hardware failure?
It's been working for 1 year! Recently I played with a few new softwares, and now the GPS is screwed, even after hardreset.
Try turning the off the phone, remove the battery for 10 mins, then restart. It worked for me.

Tried that, didn't work :-(
Is your GPS not working or is it the QuickGPS application? Cuz QuickGPS is just a piece of software downloading information bout your (or rather your phone's) location that can a.o. be used in realtime navigation software such as TomTom to get a faster fix.
There are several utilities with which you can test the GPS. Google the forum for GPS tool and you'll find them.
I think the connection error is more due to a wrong setting (in connections) then hardware failure from the actual GPS chip of the device (cuz that's supposed to work regardless of installing the QuickGPS application).
Hope it works out for you
I have found the pattern.
Actually QuickGPS had no problem. After a soft reset. QuickGPS is always OK. But after I used Google Maps, which is not working (kept initializating the GPS, or seeking satellites). Somehow Google Maps locked up the GPS, or not releasing the resource. Then QuickGPS will show "connections failed, try again later".
