UK and not UK version? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

is there a way to tell the difference by just looking at the outside of the box?

The UK version has tomtom logo on the back near the windows logo. It appears now though that it doesnt make a difference though (you can download tomtom from this site) as I have succsessfully registered my imported phone this morning.

also the SERIAL (not imei) has GB within it or is that just a coincedence with mine?

Mine has GB in the serial and its an imported phone. From what I've read all Kaisers seem to have GB in their serial.

ok, thanks alot guys!

Also in mine there is GB in the serial and mine was buyed in Italy and registered without trouble on HTC Europe

Vodafone vs Orange tytn 2

Hi.
I am looking at purchasing my first HTC phone. My first thought is who to go with. As I am looking through the forums people generally don't seem to happy with what orange have done with the tytn 2. However vodafone customers seem quite happy with the v1615, apparently vodafone have not messed with the phone too much and it still remains close to the HTC release.
Do either vodafone or orange change the main screen with the options for weather etc.
If anyone has any further experience with this, It would be great to hear from you.
Thanks
Marc
I have the V1615, which is only lightly branded. The HTC Home plugin (with the weather etc) is disabled when you first get the phone, but can be easily re-enabled in the Today screen settings. Similarly you can swap the vodafone message and calendar icons for proper WM6 icons in the same settings page. It comes with a nasty Vodafone theme installed, but again you can swap that for something more standard.
The only other customisations I found were the dialling screen, and comms manager, which have cosmetic changes to fit with the Vodafone theme but are functionally identical to the HTC versions. It's also missing a couple of apps - namely Windows Live, Messenger, and Worldcard Mobile.
It's perfectly livable with, certainly compared to what I've seen of the Orange version... having said that, I did debrand mine in the end and switch to the stock HTC rom.
PS - from what I've read here and elsewhere the V1615 is actually sim unlocked, so open to any network, but I've not actually tried any other sim in mine.
The orange customisation is appalling... I flashed the phone with the shipped HTC generic ROM as soon as I got it home. Keep in mind that to do this you have to sim unlock the phone (currently no free solution, £20 or more depending on where you do it)
Also, the orange do not provide the TomTom taster than comes in the generic package.
HOWEVER... I have not seen the Voda TYTN II, but I say with certainty that the Orange TYTN (Hermes) looked much better than the Voda TYTN (Hermes).
Can anyone comment on the differences between how the Kaiser handsets differ visually?
EDIT: I just checked, the two variants look almost exactly the same
Just to jump in here too, I'm looking at getting the TyTN II on either Vodafone or T-Mobile, but can't decide which one to get
Just to add, the Voda V1615 did come with the TomTom taster on disk, along with Sprite backup etc - the same CD package as the HTC, afaik.

If this is true (and I've no reason to doubt it) then the Vodafone is definitely SIM unlocked. All I had to do with mine is use the free CID utility available here (which just "unlocks" the firmware itself) and then run the usual Rom Update Utility to flash it with the generic HTC version. Total cost = £0.00.

There are loads of threads with noobs who've flashed and then said AAAAHHHHHHHH WTF ha ha ha ha
I'm not exactly sure why the sim lock kicks in... legally I don't think it should because I have an orange SIM in an orange phone - I've just flashed it with a non-orange OS build.
I read in another thread that maybe the handset detects that you've got a radio stack of a non-orange build and prompts for SIM unlock code...
My UK v1615 is also unlocked. How cool is that?
I rather like the phone so far and visualy it's a very pretty phone with the brushed metal around the screen and the black glossy back. Very nice indeed.
Havent tried to debrand the ROM yet as i've found no reason to.
I have the V1615 from Vodafone and can confirm it is not sim locked none of the phonesi have ever had form Vodafone including my old TYTn were ever locked.
V1615 seems quite normal and has a very low amount of customisation, less than on most Vodafone phones.

What happens is, if you flash a new radio rom (that is not an orange rom) to an orange TYTN 2 then the phone complains about the sim card not being accepted.
The only current way around this is to pay £20+ (there is a member on here that will provide you with an unlock code) and unlock the phone.
Then you can carry on using the phone with none orange radio roms.
What people are currently doing (and sucessfully with out paying £20+ to unlock the phone) is flashing HardSPL and then flashing just the OS rom to their orange phones
Putting aside the Orange variants problem with simlock (which can be solved relatively cheaply) I would have said the argument is which carrier provides you the best deal, not just on the phone but the airtime package, network coverage etc.
At the end of the day, the device is the same and you can flash any of the ROMs found here and customise your shiny device any way you want
To be clear on the Orange simlock issue - this only occurs if you flash a different radio rom, flashing an OS only rom has no issues at all. Currently there is no need to use a different radio rom with the cooked rom's available here.

IMEI changed by apllying a TNT ROM ?

Hi everyone,
I bought in december 2007 a kaiser (tytn2) which unfortunately can't work on 3G network so i had to manually set it to GSM to be able to call or receive call.
So basically i am paying for an "illythics" contract which should give me access to surf in 3G or even TV but since 3G is not working i apy for nothing.
As the warranty is 24 month in europe i decided after more than 18 months to bring it to my provider to repair it (SFR) but before that i had to put back an SFR ROM inside.
I had to put back an sfr rom because in january 2008 i installed a TNT ROM (found on XDA i think). IT was alos a reason i didn't bring it before because i had to backup all my stuff and go back to SFR.
SO do that i had to read a lot of topic again (after 18 month, i forgot how to hardspl) ... I finally put back an SFR ROM but still had the splash screen as TNT. To get read of it fortunately, as i was back on SFR i was able to upgrade to the last sfr rom and yes the splash screen was SFR again.
Yesterday i brought it to an sfr shop in france with the box (V1615) and they 1st checked the IMEI. What they found is it was not the same as on my contract but checked my box and even in the phone and found the IMEI I has on my contract. They could not explain why it was not the same but accepted to get it to be repaired. But the IT system didn't accept it for repair saying my warranty was only 12 months. So i called the "reclamation" service and they say i have 24 months and will deal with a shop to let me be able to get it repaired.
So they are gonna take it but i am worrying that is the repair service checked the IMEI also, they would not repair it.
I wonder how the IMEI was changed ? was it possible by putting this TNT ROM my IMEI changed also (as the spalsh screen was changed too) ?
Can anyone would help me to understand why my IMEI was changed and tell me if there is any way to put the correct one again ? (if not of course i will give it to repair service and will pray joshua, boudha and mahomet that they won't check the IMEI either that in the back of the phone).
Thanks for any help on that matter
boubanag
If it's just the last two digits that changed, that's normal, it's just the software version number.
Dave
no, it is no only the 2 last digits, it is the whole number. any other idea ?
When you remove the battery is that the same IMEI that is on the contract?
yes the IMEI number behind the battery is the same as on the contract and on the sfr v1615 box. any idea ?
So show them that your phones IMEI is listed on the back. Have fun.

IMEI problem - can someone explain/advise?

Short version: who can fix IMEI on my (legally bought) phone?
Long story: I bought a new G870A phone around XMAS from an ebay-like store (I live in Poland). It seems to be an American phone (I get an ATT logo). It worked fine in Poland for two weeks I was using it (Polish SIM, T-mobile operator), but then I left for my work in South Korea, where I have a Korean SIM (SKT op.) it had connectivity issues: phone/SMS/wifi work, but mobile data doesn't work if the phone displays LTE 4G on the top. If it shows just 4G it works. I took it too SKT shops (three), all swear it's not an operator problem. Took it to the Samsung service center, they couldn't figure things out, sent it to the factory. I got a call from them (well, I don't speak Korean, so it's handled by my Korean gf). She said: "the number of INEI on the phone does not match the manufacturer’s serial number on the phone. Based on my understanding from his explanations, the manufactures finds for the serial number with INEI numbers, two numbers need to be the same. If another person is using a phone with the same INEI numbers with yours, your phone might not work properly. Your phone is not in the process for A/S since ur phone itself has the problem. So, they suggested you to contact the distributor what happens." I did some research on IMEI, and I am confused. I am reasonably sure that the place I bought in Poland is legit (I got the box, warranty card, proof of purchase; the business has official government registration, and 99% satisfaction ratio for its ~2,000 sales). The mobile data worked in Poland, which would suggest IMEI was fine - until the flight/SIM change? What could have messed it up? And if it is, who can fix it for me? Seems like the Samsung rep wants me to take the phone halfway through the world and complain to the Polish seller? Should I try to get if fixed in Korea? Whose fault is it? It also seems like it is possible to get the IMEI changed without root, could it be that someone "stole" my IMEI number? Could IMEI numbers work in one country but not the other? Should I try to change the IMEI myself - and if so, are there any good guides for that? I also read that changing IMEI is not legal in many countries, but presumably the vendor/service center can do it? But who is the party that should fix my phone? The original vendor? Are IMEI problems covered through warranty?

N950U1 FW Update N950U1UEU5CRG6 - Own Number unknown

Monday I updated the FW of my US unlocked Note 8 (N950U1 / SD-version) with N950U1UEU5CRG6.
After the update I noticed that in Settings - About Phone, My Phone Number is listed as UNKNOWN. I am using the phone in The Netherlands with provider Hollandsnieuwe (=Vodafone). I am certain that the actual phone number was correctly displayed prior to the FW update.
Not sure if related, but Find My Phone/Device does no longer work via Samsung or Google. Is does work through Bitdefender Anti Theft...
Anyone has this or other issue after the update? Thoughts?

Hi, on my 2 Note8 dual sim, it is said : phone number⇒ unknown. And this from the beginning (on every firmwares). I'm in france using two french sim cards in the phone and i bought my phones on samsung shop. Until now, no problem, everything works great.
My branded, but unlocked 950F, as I paid for it the full price to use it as a prepaid phone displays the same, unknown number, since day one, I bought it directly from the major carrier in Mexico which is Telcel, everything works fine, all services and VoLTE
You mean like this seeing on my screenshot? This number is only visible if it's saved into your SIM card. Since a while, the carriers/operators don't write longer the numbers into the SIM card
So if you don't see it now, you never saw it before!
But there was an xposed module (if I remember right on android 4.4.2) where you can change this (showing) number.
(It don't changed your registered phone number!)
At that time I had found that thread
https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?ur...share_tid=2106490&share_fid=3793&share_type=t
That should be the correct GitHub link:
https://github.com/OXINARF/SIMNumberChanger
But it looks like there is a newer xposed module called SIMEditor - maybe that still works (when your device is rooted and xpised installed)
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.gnufabio.simeditor

Sorry for German language. The first line: Eigene Telefonnummer means "own phone number"
Don't be afraid to hit the "Thanks" button if someone helped you. It don't hurts
I've never had my phone number displayed in the information menu. As far back as the Note 3, no matter what firmware, official or custom, or even other phones. I live in South Africa. After reading @Logel's explanation, it now makes sense to me why it never showed to me, because of the way South African carriers assign numbers to customers.

I know it's not the exact same model, but my N950F/DS shows my phone number there like normal. Not sure why it's not showing in your case though.

Vodafone UK Stock Availability

Hi everyone, been a while since I've been on these forums.
So I put in an order to upgrade my phone last week, decided to splash out on the Xperia 1 II through Vodafone (got a pretty decent plan with them) however after putting the order in, it turns out the phone is out of stock and so my order has been placed on "back order". Today, I had my third update regarding the status of my order and the phone is still out of stock.... With no real eta.... Just... "We'll let you know when it's in stock"... :crying:
So I'm just wondering if there is anyone here with industry contacts that have any idea when Vodafone will get their next batch from Sony?
I also have an additional question... I'm aware that the phone will be locked to Vodafone and that it may have a Vodafone specific firmware - I'll be planning to unlock the phone to other networks but will it be possible to flash standard generic firm to the phone in addition?
Thanks
Edit 22/07/20 - My order has been updated and is being delivered, I also checked the Vodafone website and they are showing immediate availability for next day delivery.
