My Kaiser seems to crash fairly regularly every day. I know the routine, but it looks to me like it's because of Shape Services IM+ (because only when I'm logged in) and their Skype application. Anybody have a list of known programs, program combinations, or settings that cause crashes?
Rob
short answer is no. just start uninstalling apps until you stop "crashing." or hard reset and install one app at a time.
Pointless being yet another person to say I don't know either, but it's true so I'll make a pointless post Unlike any other device of this type I have had, I have yet to find anything so far that will completely crash it requiring a soft reset (let alone a hard one) A couple of midlets I was trying out made it seem to hang but it always comes out eventually if I leave it for 15 secs or so.
Mike
yes it soft resets when IM+ is running
I've had this happen a few times, and they occured when IM+ was running.
I am running IM+ 4.43 fine, not the IM+ skype tho. Have been chatting daily using MSN, ICQ, and GMail Talk. No crash at all.

I've had my tilt for about a month now and for some reason it keeps locking up on me. I don't know what program it is that's causing it, i really like my current setup too. There's no specific thing that causes it to lock up. sometimes checking texts, opening ie, whatever it may be. Here is my list of installed apps.
HTC Touch Keyboard + Keypad
Microsoft Live Search
TCMP
Wizard reTOUCHED dialer
Teksoft A2DP Toggle
HTC Audio Manager
SPB Mobile Shell
SPB Pocket Plus
AT&T Xpress mail
Cingular Pre-Midlets
OZ Communications OZ IM
AT&T Xpress Mail
All this on the OEM ROM
any help is appreciated, Thanks
notice that there is a thread right below this that talks about freezing Tilts and has 85 replies...
Ya, but the issue is there are at least several different types of freezing problems.
I have an idea...
It seems there are different types of freezing. I suggest we create a video library of such issues. I think all the suggestions people give only help certain situations. And its hard to get the right corrective action, when there is one because of it.
E.g. there's the PIE freezes, the Nav freezes, the Task Manager freezes, the one I experienced, the one described by acboydston, etc. We could have dedicated help threads for each one. People could try to match what they are expeirencing to the video of symptoms and get the "right" help...That's the best idea I can come up with to diagnose and solve these things, rather than having lots of different problems in the same threads...And you should only create new "freezing issue" thread if you have the video and it's unique...
So, if you are expeirencing freezes, you should try to video what yours looks like and post it. Then people can see what you are talking about. And suggest ideas to fix it for that particular issue. Different freezes have different resolutions. And having them all grouped as the same "freezing issues" just makes things more confusing.
the only reason i posted a new thread is most of the ones i read from the previous one said they were just short lock ups. mine literally locks up and can only work when i pull out the battery and restart

I still suggest video if you can do it.
With all you have on that tilt your going to have to do a hard reset and than add your programs one at a time till you figure out which one id causing your lock up problem. Did you throw them all on at one time? Best way is to do it one program at a time and try it out.

Maybe we can start a sticky thread about applications that are not working right on the Eris. I don't mean apps that are designed for another version of Android, just apps that don't work for one reason or another(this could include apps that keep force closing).
Pandora can cause your phone to reset your phone then cause major force closes which require a factory reset to fix. It's not every time but it happens to me
PDANet force closes alot. And, brings my laptops internet with it. Sad days.
Grooveshark has the habit of not downloading music to play while on mobile network. It will try, fail, and wait for you to pause and play it again.
I had an odd problem the other day: when I rotated my phone to landscape the screen would fade to black as it was being rotated. Found this out by trying to use camera and had to do a factory reset in the options menu. Big pain in the ASS. Never had so many problems with my G1 or MT3G. Come-on HTC get the Eris together, this is not the only problem I have had either.
Iheartradio once in a while force closes. Also, not sure if this is an issue of the Eris(due to 3G connection issue not fully fixed), or an issue of the software, but certain stations cause my Eris to freeze a second and the won't work(I never been able to connect to a few stations).
For me it was Task Panel. After I did the manual update, every time I exited task panel, I got stuck on HTC screen for a while. I had HTC sense, HTC touch input, and thing needing to run on Ignore list, so I know they were not killed by task panel. Finally I deleted it and am fine....although am itchin to keep checking my memory
Anyone else have Skype open 24/7?
Are you having random freezing of the UI? Either not being able to bring the user interface to the front resulting in a black screen or while selecting contact from contact list, resulting in a frozen screen at the contact list.
Do the freezes occur often?
Does it happen on WiFi or 3G or both?
Does it freeze while driving and switching between cell towers?
When it is frozen, can you still receive calls and IM's, but not able to answer the call nor view the IM?
All of the above happens to me.
I'm on Galaxy Tab P1000T.
It happened on the Stock Froyo, Stock Gingerbread and now on Overcome Gingerbread.
The freezing happens up to 8-10 times a day, seemingly random but more often when I am moving between 3G cell towers. It also happens while on my WiFi at home, but less often (maybe 1-2 times a day).
I have tried reboots, having no other running apps, having only stock apps and skype, running all apps or a multitude of combination of apps.... nothing changes the fact that the Skype UI freezes on multiple occasions each day.
Help?
Seeing exact same behavior on Samsung Infuse - happens on wifi and 3/4G
Check to see if there is a skype update. It didnt freeze on me but i dont have it on 24/7. If its the latest version consider reinstalling. If problem still persists report to skype could be an issue with connection drops.
i have a similar problem, i'm not using the official app i'm using the pirate version to make calls over 3g, i leave it open, seems to be alive for 1 hour but then kind of goes to dead mode(logs off), if i click it takes me back to the login and automatically re-logins
i try to keep it open all day long, but it fails constantly, i dont get freezes like you say..
and what version of skype are you using?
I'm using the latest update from what market tells me (1.0.0.983).
Today it had been logging me out randomly instead of freezing, and that is even worse as I look offline.
All the while the skype app works fine on the iphone4 laying here. Annoying.
I'll try uninstall and reinstall.
Anyone else? Ideas? Comments? Solutions?
Thanks.
Okay, I've got several Samsung Keyboard issues, so bear with me as I explain as it may be a bit long.
First and foremost, my keyboard keeps crashing. At first, I assumed this was just a general issue that a reboot was necessary in order to fix. This is entirely not the case, as it even happens directly after a reboot at times. Also, they keyboard crashing happens in several different ways. This normally happens while using Kik messenger, but it does happen at times while using normal text messaging as well, so I'm assuming Kik isn't the problem.
1)Normal keyboard crash, where it gives an error and the phone tells me it has stopped working.
2)Keyboard entirely disappears, yet I can still type by touching the black area where the keyboard would normally be.
3)Keyboard doesn't disappear, but text entered doesn't appear inside the text box until after closing the keyboard.
4)Keyboard crashes normally, causing either (2) or (3) to happen.
I'm unsure what's going on. I am running a rooted system, so I'm guessing it may be some issue with the root combined with something I've installed, but I'm unsure what it could be. Keyboard was (and has been) working fine for months and months, and I haven't installed anything new since the day I rooted.
I'm rooted with Rooted Community Rom. I've not had any problems with this root since I've installed it, so I don't know what the Hell is going on. Any input would be wonderful, especially if someone could tell me what's causing this to happen, or if others have this issue.

I'm thinking 1) is due to Low Memory causing Force Close (due to many running apps) or the Keyboard App data somehow got corrupted and 2) and 3) are happening due to GPU not being able to draw the Keyboard and letters when called upon; can't entirely be sure unfortunately.
I can think of two solutions to try however:
Clear Data and Cache of Keyboard App
Go to Settings -> Apps -> ALL -> Keyboard
Select Clear data and Clear cache
Reboot or start a messaging app and start typing again
Try another Keyboard App
Many options available, try: AOSP Keyboard, Google Keyboard, Swype
Hope that helps!
Clearing it and letting it reload does fix all of the issues, but it just happens again shortly after. I don't have very many apps, and normally still have around 100MB RAM free at all times. I don't use social media or anything on the phone at all, and most everything else is just Google things, Kik messenger, and stuff pre-installed on the phone(Like the normal sms app, phone app, etc) Reboot, clearing memory, etc, all have the same result. Fixes the problem, only for it to happen again shortly afterward. Sometimes, in the case of the keyboard going blank, clearing memory doesn't fix the issue. It re-loads with a blank keypad. Doesn't happen very often, but it did once or twice today.
I've tried using Swype since it's already pre-installed, but it's not really the same size as the standard keypad and it's difficult to adjust to typing on it :\ I suppose I'll have to make due with using it for now, because that keypad doesn't seem to freeze or crash at all as I've used it (wasn't for very long, but the normal keypad tends to crash at least twice within the span of an hour if it's used regularly).
It wouldn't even be a problem if it wasn't happening so damned often. I'm used to things crashing at random, because having a load of apps (before) caused it to make things crash sometimes. But this is definitely not a "sometimes" issue. It's a "Please God, make it stop" issue lol

I know how that feels. I remember experiencing those keyboard symptoms you mentioned in the past. Frankly, I couldn't leave the stock ROM fast enough.
You should try AOSP or Google Keyboard, the keys are bigger and appear less confusing than Swype.
I have noticed over some time that whenever my Google account syncs it causes my CPU to run over 90% and my phone to become extremely slow. I took off two factor authentication and readded my account after reading about it as a possible fix online and it still does it. I'm not sure if I should just bite the bullet and do a factory reset. Has anyone run into this problem before and have a possible fix for it? The issue makes the phone unusable for about 10-15 minutes sometimes.
This used to be a problem on my old phone HTC One M8 and after a factory reset it still did it which is why I'm hesitant to try this again. This makes me wonder if it is a possible account issue but I can't seem to figure out what.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Every phone or rom install I've ever had does this if you sync everything at the same time, a factory reset will most likely not change this. Now if its just doing this randomly like when gmail grabs your emails or something small like that then there might be a problem but if you go into the accounts menu and press "sync now" that's normal.
odd.. i always have everything enabled to sync, and have never experienced this issue. on every android phone that ive owned as well. the nexus 6 has never slowed down while syncing stuff here.
@StykerB do you know of any fix for this? I would think the Nexus 6 has the hardware to support background syncing without suffering from a slowdown.
@StykerB this occurs in the background. I don't ever press sync now.
Well the slow down comes from the syncing using your cpu as much as it can which leaves less or no cpu for the rest of the phone so if the syncing just arbitrarily used less cpu then you're phone would run smoother but the syncing would theoretically go slower.
But if the slowdowns are from just regular background syncing (you aren't force syncing everything) then a factory reset might fix it but try deleting and re-adding your account(s) first
I already readded but it still does it sometimes. However there are times (like now) where the phone runs great. I just wish that it would be like this all the time.
