You should be able to -- I did when I was trying to get GPS working.
Yes, you can re-install your free map. If you installed your map on the storage card, you won't need to re-download the map(s).

Hi,
I can't GPS signal no matter what I try. I didn't change any default settings in External GPS.
I've installed TomTom and Google maps but neither application is seeing GPS device. In TomTom I get no valid GPS signal and in Google Maps I get not able to initialise the GPS. I've tried using both of the appications with clear view of the sky and left the phone for about 30mins to try and find the satelites.
Any ideas?
I'm thinking I'm having a faulty device but I don't want to replace it just in case I get the new one with SOD problem.

Stupid question, but hard reset = soft reset but holding down the 2 soft keys as well yar?
There was a discussion of this in some previous threads, based on which I installed the GPS Viewer and after activating GPS with that (com 4, 4800 baud) Google maps worked very well. No need for a hard, rest, please search the previous topics in GPS and Kaiser
[COM4 / 4800 baud] are the default settings aren't they? I think i've tried those before :S

If i do install this app and run, it's over with the built in GPS so

i couldnt get google maps or windows live to work without first running gpsviewer but when my new copy of tomtom navigator 6 (the trial didnt come with my phone) i did a clear storage which takes the phone back to its factory settings and then tomtom work super fast and very accurate in all kinds of weather without having to install a "jumpstart" software.
the way the GPS seems to work is you need a app that will start the GPS for you hence why most HTC bought Kaisers come with tomtom once you start tomtom hit the ok button and then start google maps or Live maps and GPS will work. there also is an app called GPSViewer i believe that will also start the GPS for you. I dont think anyone has gotten Google maps to start the GPS by itself?

Some people have reported that they have but I always seem to need to give it a boost. I use GpsViewer and that always seems to get Google Maps started okay.

All working now. I had to do a hard reset.
It has been said so many times but it won't hurt to repeat it:
WARNING: Don't touch any settings in "External GPS"!!! Otherwise your GPS will not work and you will have you hard reset you phone!
FWIW, I did not have to jump start my GPS in my 8925 with the default ATT ROM. Once I replaced it with the HTC ROM, I now have to jump start it. So it appears whatever the problem is, it's fixable via software.

I'm running 6.030, I took the SD card out of my old Wizard, did a direct copy to my new MiroSD (6gig :-D) did a little file tidy up and then popped it into my Kaiser. It auto ran and did its install and worked straight away. I've since done a hard reset and it installed first time again.
In TT6 I have selected NMEA GPS receiver, baud rate of 4800 and COM4.
I'm really pleased with the GPS performance, I was worried that it wouldnt work as well as my bluetooth one as that could get a signal in seconds anywhere, even indoors, but the Kaiser is not a bad match, it struggles a bit indoors, but it gets there, over all very pleased.
hmm, i must have some issues, as i took my sd out of my hermes, where it would auto run, but when plaxing it in the kaiser it wont run atall?

On the root of the SD card there should be a folder called 2577, this has the TomTom cabs
I think all the auto run does is run these, just select them in File Explore and run them manually, should work...

yep got that, click the autorun, the tt hands pop up on the screen then it just reverts back to the same screen, ie can just click autorun again?

What about if you just run the cab's directly?
if your talking about the ttn2003.cab or ttn.cab @ 5.50M then it asks to install and the progess bar just hangs , have to soft reset the phone to get out of it.
I am running 6.010 still and it works fine using the NMEA GPS with the above settings. I think the only thing I would say is once its installed if you have any problems with getting a fix on sats hit the tomtom traffic/update button as I did this and since then it was fine getting the sat info even if it takes a little time .

that was the 1st thread i found, and thought great! downloaded installed and got "Setup Error: Unable to install application. Please update your device ROM to the required version before trying again."
like many of the other T-mobile users on that thread, the solution seemed to be to get 6.030 version installed, but that aint playing the game!!!!

just checked, put my memory card back in my hermes, tomtom runs fine version 6.030, put the card in the kaiser and no go?
Might be worth trying to downgrade to 6.010? as I say I am using that version perfectly fine, 6.030 gave me **** regarding my maps which i bought v6.75 maps a while back but they wont initialise with the tomtom home software so thought bugger it just install 6.010 which works on my Vario I with WM6 and its all fine.

Get "Installing ttn.cab" then the lttle windows timer in the centre of the screen and that it it just does bugga' all!
Sorry for the delayed response but yes i managed to install 6.030 no problems there it was just everytime i started it and it wanted to register the map no matter what i tried it would not accept the key information even via tomtom home.

I have searched for that solution (including HOPING it was added to the TomTom string), but can't find it.

If you look on your storage card, I bet you have a folder called (IIRC) 2577.
This folder is the installation folder for TomTom and it will be run when you insert the memory card (and very likely, when you soft-reset).
If you have the folder, I suggest you rename to something different (maybe 'OLD_2577' or something like that?).
I think that will fix the problem.

i've deleted this folder and the problem is disappeared
I had this problem once.... actually after a soft reset it ran tomtom and also the installation of tomtom... very annoying....
In the end I think it came down to 2 files on the root of the memory card... one called "install.bif" and the second was called "tomtom.bif".. think these must be some sort of autorun files. as after I removed them... everything was sorted..
see if they are on your memory card...

Is your QuickGPS file current? I have mine set to autoupdate when necessary, but an error could have changed that setting so it only updates manually.

I let it go for a couple of minutes, I make sure my QuickGPS is current, and then I turn on TomTom and it works great.
The other day went to use iGO and could not get any GPS connection. (Has been working ok for months)

Tried using HTC GPS Tool, and although it could see the satellites (12 showing in red) it would not connect to them.
Done a hard reset and it is still the same.

Thanks for the help. I fixed it by taking the battery out for 10mins. Looks like the GPS device locked up for some reason.

Well, thanks to all the guys in the other topic, especially Motaba who got this right and saved our GPS'
Mine wasn't working as well and I Google Sited xda-developers and found it so all the credits to the other guys!
