Hey,
I've owned my TMO wing for a whie now, and I want to know if anybody has a WLM that doesn't need a WiFi Connection. I do not always have a wireless connection and would love it if someone could find me an app that lets me use TMO's connection and use my Texts.
As, TMO has a program by OZ that uses their connection and uses SMS. I don't mind as I have Unmetered SMS

I uploaded WLM a while ago on this forum, works with T-Mobile's Internet, i use it to. No Wireless connection needed!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324460 Download it there!
This one still requires that T-Mobile Internet package which is $20.00 extra a month, I jsut want one like the AIM, ICQ, and Yahoo on there where I can connect GRPS

I connect this one trough T-Mobile GPRS (in the Netherlands), i only bought unlimited data transfer for €9,95 a month, i can also do it without an unlimited data package. (Then i will pay per mb). So this one is the closest you can get to Live IM software!
Hi all,
Does anyone know if its possible to configure the Kaiser as an analog modem so that I can use it to dial-up to my ISP? I tried doing this by creating a new Connection on the Kaiser and selecting "Cellular Line" as my modem connection. However, when I tried using this Connection the Kaiser doesn't seem to be dialing out at all. Actually I'm pretty sure its not dialing out because I changed the phone number in my connections setup to another cell phone and it never rings.
Is there anyway to accomplish what I'm trying to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
umm...no
WModem?
What about this WModem application? From what I can tell, this apps allows your phone to act like a modem. In fact I tried this app and my laptop detected my kaiser as a USB modem. However, when I tried to dial an error dialog pops up on the kaiser telling me to "Please end data call". Funny thing is that I'm not in a data call.
Any other suggestions? Has anyone got WModem working for the Kaiser?
dialup?? yuck!
Its probably a lot better if u use the cell phone data plan over dialup for 3 reasons.
1) its faster
2) a lot more convenient
3) wont use your phone's minutes
How much do you pay for dialup? 10 dollars/mo? and i beleive its around 20 dollars/mo for unlimited data plan for the phone. Just configure the ICS and u will be able to connect to the internet with your phone on your laptop.
@ekw,
Yeah I thought about the data plan.... unfortunately its uber expensive here in Canada. Something to the effect of $15 for 5 megs, with no unlimited data transfer option.
Dial-up is my best bet until they finally decide to roll out an unlimited data plan
Dial-up modem
Any luck in configuring your TyTnII as a dial up modem?
I want to use it instead of a pcmcia-modem...

Sorry if this has been posted, new to the site and search didnt find anything from what I saw in the titles.
I would like to use a 56k dial up access number (given by my dsl service) to access the internet on my phone using the modem. I've been able to access the 56k connection on my laptop, but was wondering if I could do it for use on my phone.
Reason being i'd like to be able to use the internet w/out paying the data fees. Kinda like the old (or maybe still new) verizon phones where you could surf the net and only be charged minutes used. the manual says that it is able to be done, but doesnt specify if its only for usage on the PC or if its for usage on the phone. att says that it wont work on the phone bcuz its not set up to use the internet via a modem. i figure if it can tether and it has a web browser why cant it use the modem connection on the phone?
so i guess in summary...can i use the internet on my tilt via a 56k connection to use my minutes instead of using data rate plans?
thanks for any help...and again sorry if this has been posted previously. stan
yes you can use a dialup service with the phone BUT since you are on at&t u're sol cause using dialup service requires something called CSD which afaik at&t does not support anymore

would changing from the att rom to the htc rom make any difference? or does it have to do w/ the cellular service?
if it could have been fixed by simply changing a rom, dont you think i would have mentioned it?
Can't you just buy another SIM and do some pay as you go?
Greetings everyone,
Is it possible to use the Tilt 8925 as a dial-up modem?
I've try the search function, but could not find anything.
I would like to connect my laptop to the phone and use it as a dial up modem. I was able to do that with my Nokia N70....and that phone is 4 years old. I would be surprise if a more advance phone (Tilt 8925) was unable to perform the said function.
Thanks
Yes you can use it as a modem, you can also connect it to your laptop using "Internet Sharing" Which I think is the better method, I get 1700kbps with it.

What are your settings?
I've tried USB and Bluetooth PAn as the "PC connection"
and My Connection 1 as the "Network Connection".
I clicked on the "connect button" in the internet sharing and nothing is happening.
It's dialing the dial up number using Celluar line. But it's not connecting at all. I get " Cannot Connect" widow with the following: The remote party has ended this connection.
Thanks
Install ICS if you have a tilt.. There is a cab floating around for it that is easy to use. Once it is in, it'll show up as a network connection in Winblows and work for bluetooth PAN.
According to what he said just above he already has it. I guess the connection settings must be wrong though. If you connect your "my connection 1" with the phone, can you get internet access on the phone itself?
I had the exact same problem, with ICS saying that the connection was denied by a third party. More specifically it was WMWifirouter trying to use ICS to bind my data connection to my wificard to create a wireless hot spot out of my phone (which is the coolest program I have ever used on my tilt).
Anyway, I fixed it by opening ICS and changing the Network Connection. I have ATT and they use 2 different connections. One is if you paid for tethering (AT&T ISP GPRS), the other is your data connection (MEdia Net). I am not 100% sure if this is the case, but it is my best guess.
I changed it from ATT ISP to MEdia Net, and it started working, because I presume, due to the fact that I do not have tethering on my data plan.
I am not sure if the carrier can detect I made this change, and somehow know to charge me the extra tethering charge. As far as they know I do not even have access to the ICS application..so we'll see.
So look in your ICS and see if your carrier uses more than one connection.

I dont have internet connection on the phone itself. I dont have any data plan. My provider is T-Mobile. Am I required to purchase the data plan before I can use the dial-up internet/ share internet feature?
I know on my NOkia N70 all I had was the basic wireless plan (39.99 from T-mobile) and was able to connect using dial up. I would connect my Nokia N70 to my laptop via USB or Bluetooth. Click the dial-up icon on my laptop. It would dial my local ISP provider...and connect.

I have this install...but still is not working.
Thanks for the input.
I think my setting are off.....but do not know how to correct it.
OK, it seems you actually want to do it the "old way" and have the phone dial a phone number to connect like a 56k modem... but in 9.6k here through GSM
There are 2 ways to do this, one where the phone has the connection and shares it with ICS (create a new connection on the phone, through cellular line, add number) which seems to be what you tried first and as I said would allow you to have the net on the phone itself too, which is why I was asking if that was working in the first place before going into the sharing thing.
Or, the second which must be more like what you had with the Nokia, where the phone is just a modem and all connection settings are on the PC. As you're having trouble with the first one, lets try the second one:
If you want your modem to work via the USB cable:
Settings -> Connections -> wireless modem, select USB, menu-> APN setting -> remove the tick ->done -> menu -> start.
THEN plug the USB port, the PC should find a serial port to which a modem is attached.
Or via Bluetooth:
Just pair your phone to the PC via BT, then on the PC go and browse the services on the phone where you should find "dial-up networking". Now it depends on your PC's BT stack, but on mine I would double-click on that, which would firstly install a bluetooth modem, then open a dialog where I can enter the phone number to dial. I'd then have a usual modem connection in the PC's control panel->connections folder.
But with that you won't be able to take advantage of the new ways to transfer data over the network and their incredibly higher speeds. Granted you won't need a data plan and will just pay like a regular call, but you'll be having a very slow connection. Which is why barely anybody ever uses that anymore and we didn't get it.
To take advantage of EDGE, 3G, HSDPA, you need a real packet data connection instead of a call, which in turn requires either a data plan or that you pay just the standard volume price for data.
um you all are making this a one big issue....no offense...wmwifirouter and a bluetooth dongle for your pc...nuff said
Edited previous post with what I had forgotten.
t-mobile internet sharing
i have a problem using my tilt as a modem as well, I also don't have a data plan, i use T-Mobile's 5.99 plan, can i use internet sharing with this plan? if so what do i need to do? thanks
Ok, for one I think you have to have a data plan for it to work, otherwise you will wind up with serious data charges ( in excess of 3-500 $ have been reported )
Back in the day you could use the voice side and dial out to aol or the likes, but im sure that cant be done anymore. ( I hope this isnt what youre asking about )
There are other alternatives to ICS built into the phone. Using bluetooth you can "tether" the computer to the phone and dial an access string. this is done by using a generic bluetooth serial port for data communications. Basically once your phone is paired, you should be able to go to the computer and set up a new connection using the serial port that was created when you paired. Then you will need the phone number, user name , and password for your provider. For ATT, I know you can still use "[email protected]" for the user name and "CINGULAR1" for the password. The APN ( or dial string) can be a few different things. Ive used apn.cingular.com on my WM phones as the phone number to dial, and also *99# as the number to dial. If you research your cellular carrier you will find the dial strings, user names, and passwords for them through google.
JUST REMEMBER THIS IS DATA INTENSIVE!!!!!!!
I hope this info helps a tad.
**EDIT**
Just found this. Looks helpful for T-Mobile

i am still a little confused, i dont think t-mobile works the same way At&t does it does not charge by data use, i just want to know if it will work with the 5.99 plan, if there is a way to manipulate the phone the same way i use a proxy setting to connect to the internet?

This reply is just not contributing in any way! Why not just help others out? This reply shows that you have no idea at all of the goal of this question!
Hey guys, I am not sure how this works, but technically it should be doable.
I know with the iphone, you can sync it with you computer to make it a modem for the internet, just wonder how do I do it for my X1?
Obviously, I know how to do it with being charged by my network provider, but I don't wanna do it. So basically, I want to find a way that I can sycn my X1 with my laptop, so I get to use the Internet on my laptop via my X1 without paying anything extra. (my mobile contract comes with a unlimited web data plan)
Hope I am making some sense.
Thanks a lot
First things first, You've posted in the wrong forum, this should have been in the general section.
Secondly if you' d done a search you would have found the answer.
But anyway, it's very simple: Plug the phone in via USB open up your programs on the phone, scroll down to the one called 'Internet sharing' press and follow the instructions.
You PC (If it's windows) should ask you if you want to use the new connection, and off you go
Thanks, but I know how to do this with paying extra to my network provider, but I know there is a way of doing it without paying extra.

Huh? You have stated that you have an unlimited data package with your cellphone provider.
Hence if you use this method they will not charge you as it's using the phone as a modem over it's own 3G network.
U sure? coz when I took out the phone, I asked the very same question, and I was told if I use the data on my phone, then it is unlimited access, but if I link it with a computer, they will be able to tell as it will show the data is through a computer not the handset, and they will charge me certain amount per MB. I take it you are in the UK with O2? Coz I am the same.

Yeah, I am a little bit confused too... but probably I need some clarifications: you want that your pc shares Internet with your X1 or the opposite?
I mean, which device has the internet connection you want to share, your laptop or your X1?
EDIT: uhm, after your 6:57 post I am more confused than before. I actually do not think they can tell which device is using the data downloaded by your X1... however, this is my opinion.
in my program menu i have an icon called "condivisione internet", i think that in english will appear as "internet sharing". from this menu you can start the internet connection and share it by the usb cable or bluetooth.
i also install a program called WMWifiRouter, that transform my x1 in a wi-fi router and use the wi-fi connection to share the internet.
one thing....iphone doesn't have an official modem driver, you have to jailbreak it and install a third part application

WMWiFirouter rulez !!
I even removed my ADSL contracts and am using the Xperia's HSDPA connection at home and office - amazing speed and flawless connection
Impressive
NO WAY you can do this with an iPhone or T-MO G1
I love this phone a bit more everyday
I want to cut the internet on my computer so I can use the package I get from my X1 on both my laptop and X1 itself. Trying to save some money I am. I see what you guys are saying, but as I said, I was told by O2 if use my X1 as a modem for my laptop, then I will be charged on a MB basis, which is extremely expensive. They specifically told me they can tell when and what sites I have been on using whether my phone or on a computer. Which I think it makes sense in a way, coz otherwise, everyone would be cutting off their Internet at home and start using their mobiles as modems (if they have as nice phone as ours). Unless all these from O2 is a bluff.
So did my friend do some dodgy thing to make his iphone Internet works on his computer then?
Sorry guy if I am confusing the matter as I am confused myself, any further help greatly appreciated. And do forgiver my English!
PS - Would this work with my Mac? I don't have a PC, I could buy the MissSync, but not sure how good it will work and quite expensive.
Maybe your "unlimited data plan" on your phone is about wap traffic? Than O2 is right and you are gonna pay a lot for the regular shared net connection. Check this with them.
Just my opinion!
Well I think the simplest way to sort this is do a test.
Just use the shared internet connection facility for a couple of days then stop.
If your next bill comes with a charge attached then they are right, if not they are talking BS and you can carry on.
p.s. I'd like to know if this is true as well as i'm with O2
Better for a couple of minutes! Using a internet connection w/out a data plan will dry his pocket out as a day in Sahara. Don't try this at home!
WMWifirouter is definitely worth a try.
With T-mobile I've got unlimited data on the phone, but it does not permit tethering (using the connection for a laptop or other computer), but with WMWifirouter, it routes it through a program on the phone, so it can be shared.
Brilliant bit of software, worth paying for, even if just for emergencies (e.g. at a friend's house, they have no internet but have laptop, and you want to show them a stupid youtube video... it's serious stuff).
unlimited data plan is not real unlimited, its just enough to last a month with on your phone.
btw phone companies are bluffing because they also say they can see if you are calling via skype instead of the normal cellular radio....

If you use tmobile in the UK, I would imagine your unlimited data would be similar to mine since they are both in the UK.
I guess I will give the WMWifirouter a good and see what will happen if I get on the Internet for a few mintues and maybe increase my time bit by bit...
Thanks for all the replies and sure will keep you guys updated with the results, if my X1 doesn't sell on ebay. Nothing wrong with that, just being a Mac computer person and having a WiMo is a little... weird... but don't jump on me, I love the X1 and it's great!!!!
Hi there,
Connect your laptop to the X1 with a USB cable. Start the computer.
Tap
Start > Programs > Tools > Internet Sharing.
Select USB & Contract Internet then Tap connect at the bottom of the screen.
Open your browser and it should be working. You need a very good mobile signal to get any speed out of it.
Hope this helps.
Is there any way to use my PC internet connection on my X1i with Bluetooth?
i'm sure there is
all the best
my home broadband was down for a week a few days ago. used my x1 using the internet connection sharing app. for it to work i had to remove the ethernet cable from the pc. but once i did it was fine.
and voda didnt charge me anything as i have the unlimited internet included.
problem was i dont like in a 3g area so it was back to 8kb/s speeds. pain, but a lot better than nothing!
---ronin. in the internet sharing application there is an option to connect via bluetooth. try that.
thanks James but i've already tried that but i couldn't manage it
actually when i select Bluetooth pan then i should select a network but there is no network connection to select
can any body help me find a solution?
all the best
