Making the ATT Tilt Like the Unlocked HTC Kaiser

This is my first post.
I have owned a 8125 (wizard) for a year. I'm getting the tilt (399 from premier) soon. Before I do this I have a few questions if those who own can answer:
Is there a way to put the HTC Rom on the Tilt?
If so, How does it run?
Can you unlock the GPS? If so, does can you use Tom Tom? Can I use the GPS for free without using Telenav?
I really only care about the GPS, because my 8125 is pretty similar other than that.
Let me know please!

Just go to the Kaiser upgrading section to find the HardSPL unlocker and the Kaiser ROM to flash.
The GPS on the Tilt is already unlocked so you can use it with any software or data-based navigation program. . . no Telenav subscription needed.

Try being a bit kinder to the newbies. After purchasing a Kaiser I have been back on the boards for the first time in 2+ years and despite 5 straight days now (probably 20-25 full hours reading) this info was new to me.
What is also new to me is the elitist attitude of some members. This is a forum, and the last time I checked this meant it was a gathering place for people to share info. Some people will always be new and ask questios that others find pedantic. I see this pattern on every forum I have ever visited. If you can tell from the topic that it is something that has already been covered, don't read the post, but if you do go to the trouble to read it, AND make a comment, then at least make a helpful suggestion such as, "Try searching on XXX". This not only helps the OP, but others who happen to be "in the same moment" and would like more info too.
sorry but even as a new member I agree with austinsnyc...if the topic is already there, do a search on the forum first and look for maybe 5 minutes before you post redundant questions. This isnt about an elitest attitude, its about being considerate of everyone on the forum and not flooding it with crap that is already there.

Yeah me too. But I usually do search.
It wasn't the suggestion to search that I found objectionable, it was the way is was said. It's just not a very nice way to welcome a new poster. I am sure we have all asked stupid questions from time to time. No need to be rude about it. That was the elitist part. If you have em, imagine of your kid's teacher said to your child on the first day of school. "That was a stupid question, stop wasting our time."
Sadly no one came to my defense. Still say I am making a bad call on the change in tone of the forum? Rhetorical question, not looking to start a flame war. My last word on this is to ask others to please be polite. Nuff said.
Unless someone is new to forums (and the internet) in general, they should know to search before asking something, but that doesn't mean older users need to be a jerk if they don't.
Also, sometimes information gets buried in large threads and even though you may use the search, it can be hard to sort through all of the results or a very large thread to pull together all of the information. Sometimes, it's really helpful if a knowledgeable user can paraphrase it all in one place.
Thank you newbie 2. Instead of searching through thread after thread i asked. Your answer on the unlocked gps part of the phone was all i needed !
In wolfs, defense....I've been pouring through the kaiser upgrading sections and just when I think it is safe to put the HTC rom upgrade in my tilt, I read posts like "when will they make this for the tilt?". I'm relatively sure that this upgrade works on the tilt, but am even more sure that I would never know what to do if it didn't...nor would I know what to do if I had to put the AT&T rom back on if I needed to get warranty work done - like I might, since mine absolutely will not beam files via bluetooth right now. I've put a bunch of tweaks on my tilt and love em...thank you everybody sooooo much! But currently am 'ascairt' to put the HTC rom on.

Kaiser GPS connected to computer

Can I use the GPS signal from my TyTN II on my computer/laptop? I have a program on my PC which has a possibility to connect to a GPS using a COM-port. Kan I use my TyTN II as the GPS device?
On another forum I got my solution. It works great. Via BlueTooth and even via Active Sync. Click here to download the cab-file.
The homepage of the makers is (as what is expected) GPSGate.com
Thats what I like to see a n00b that will actually search as well as asking for help. Kudos on that one If only every n00b will take heed of this thread
Lol
I posted almost the same as doemaarwat on the Software forum... Nice

That's what I normally do. First search. If I can't find a solution directly, then I post my question. But that does not mean that I stop searching myself
And if I find any answer I'll post it at my own question, just to share.
But after I found this answer I found other threads here at this forum too about GPSGate
Look for more info at this thread, posted by GSLOEN3.

Tilt/ATT general 3G Questions

I'm running:
ATT Tilt
Alex's UltraClean v5.WM61.HTC.302.beta2 (3.02.405.0 WWE)
KAISER Radio 1.64.08.21
I've had my Tilt about 8 months, and 3G has finally come to my area and I've got a few questions/problems.
The first (and most important) is that I can't make phone calls while on 3G. On EDGE if I tried it would pop up an error about having a data session and a call session. On 3G it just pretends to connect but never does. It goes to H mode when I've got an active data session. (HSDPA is on.)
The second is why is everyone capped at ~700-900kbit/s? At least I seems that way to me and some of my coworkers. I could have sworn I was in a city once (Richmond) and I was getting ~3200kbit/s.
The last thing is that I haven't been keeping up with ROM development very well. I've been looking for something that has most of the fixes, upgrades, and tweaks but doesn't have anything or hardly anything installed. I like the ATT roms, but I can use the Operator Config if need be. I have UC set up for anything else.
Any comments or suggestions?
sounds like someone needs to introduce you to the search function. The 3G problem was discussed last week so the thread isn't far behind, I have no idea about the cap, and you need to go look at the 50 million roms out there.
Searching for:
"tilt 3g phone call"
"tilt 3g voice and data"
"tilt 3g phone call while data connected"
And any other number of queries didn't produce any results for me. I think I'll browse around general some more, but I'd not seen it mentioned. What query would you use to produce the intended results?
Also, I've browsed around the ROM forums a lot. They're confusing at best. I was hoping someone could make a suggestion off-hand about something they new and liked.
Dutty's Rom
Very rarely will you get a good answer from a senior member on this site. All they say is search. Kind of hard to find a real good answer in a search if it turns up 10000 results. There a lot of helpful people on here but it seems to me that the most likely response will be search...it's out there.
I use Dutty's 6.1 ROM and really like it although I haven't tried any of the others yet.
Not to sure about the 3G cap you are talking about. I didn't notice it in any of the previous posts. I've only been fortunate enough to use 3G in one are so I don't know how it compares with out places. I only average about 750k or so.
Good luck!

Jebus Pot Smoking Cries. You know why we say Search? It's not because we don't like giving the answer, we don't like giving the same answer over and over and oever. By not searching and creating usless threads it makes the Search results turn up 10000 results.
So don't act like you are better than us. Your only going to make people mad. We say Search, because it is out there. I know I personally, with a few other people, worked hard on formatting the Kaiser FAQ Wiki. If there is something not on there that you would like to be, you can PM me or add it yourself.
Just remember without senior members you wouldn't have Custom ROMs or Diamond Keyboards or HardSPL. So don't act holier then thou, because in the end we are here to foster learning by doing, not feeding by spoon.

Not at all acting holier then thou. Just stating the obvious. I've found a lot of help here without having to ask any questions. By doing the right thing and searching and browsing but if that fails and you can't find what you are looking for...you come here and ask the question usually the only response from most users are SEARCH...it's out there. Well heck I've already done that...I've asked for help and still don't have a solution. It kind of sucks sometimes for us "newbies".
I've read the FAQ and I've read the GWENI thing just now. No dice on either of my questions. I've also read like the first 5 pages of Kaiser general.
I'm not pleased with the assumption that I didn't or have not searched. I just haven't found. I appreciate people who take the time to do these things and answer questions and catelogue and keep the answers. I just can't find where my answer lives.
I think I'm going to try out the HyperDragon III rom and/or the dutty newest one. But neither of them satisfy my requirement of not being pre installed with other things.
We'll see how they go.
Also: look at the join date, I may not post but I've been around since my 8125 and done a lot of flashing and reading. I've just not found the answer yet so I came to see (directly) if anyone else had.

H --> 3G --> E --> nothing! help!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, I've lived in an area with just EDGE and my TyTN II for a year now without probs. I've changed the ROMs after using HardSPL from Olipro, etc. without probs. I went over the weekend to Ft. Lauderdale, which is a 3G area, and my pho
ne went crazy. It first shows an H with full strength... then when I try to make a call, it either won't connect or the signal goes completely dead. Other times if I just watch it, it will switch between H, 3G, E, and even G. Sometimes it'll even lose the signal altogether. What is going on?!? I've tried different radios (1.65.20.29 with WM6.1, 1.27.12.11 WM6.0, etc.) and they all do the same thing.
Interestingly, if I go to phone settings and change my band detection things from Auto to GSM and the data to 4 U.S. GSM frequencies, it goes right to Edge and all phone calls go through fine (but now I don't have 3G/H data)
Any ideas guys?

whoa whoa whoa, listen here friend. None of us really has a problem with people doing the searchs and coming back for help (if they really did search), it's when people really don't search or search for a few minutes that makes us say that.
If I can search the problem and find it within 5 minutes, I'll say go search.
See what I'm sayn.

Nope
My problem is that I can make a call OR I can browse the internet. I can't / couldn't do both.
I'm now using :
ROM: Hyperdragon IIIm
Radio: 1.63.16.25
And I can do 3G internet and phone calls. The new rom is... decent for now. Its not as responsive as I'd like but it has the new D3D stuff built in to it. I'd really like to know what the root cause of my problem was. For now I'll settle with this as the fix.
Also, nobody else had data rate cap stuff with AT&T?

a thread just or sticky for just tilt

hello all you great developers out there. i spent hours turning pages after pages of endless information and endless searches. what i am suggesting is i think simple but may be to much can some one make a thread specifically for just the at&t tilt i know there many names around the world for the tilt but i have tried many programs and end up on the more confused that eccentric side. well just my two cents, thanks for all the great info.
Check out the Wiki, you'll find a link to a Thread for tilt specific issues.
As for software, anything that works on the other Kaiser models is fine for the tilt.

Garmin Mobile XT error

Does anyone know where to set the Garmin Mobile XT software so it stays on even if the backlight timer tries to turn off the backlight? I have tried Kaiser Tweak, Advanced Config, and the "Backlight Override" in the Garmin software, but in the middle of navigating, when the backlight timer goes off (I have it set for 2 minutes), the Garmin software freezes and when closed displays a "read error" message.
Consider this a friendly warning. 15 posts 8 of them are a New Thread, not a good start. You are violating the "laws of the land." Search for your answer. Read the Wikis and Stickies! Post your question in relevant thread. If you have more then one question about the same subject, at least put those in the same thread.
I have over 1000 posts and I've created 0 threads. Because I post my questions in relevant threads.
Anyway, Welcome to XDA-Developers.
You can assume I did search through the topics. I did not find my answer, which is why I typed up a question. If I DO find the answer, rest assured I will not spend time typing up the question.
Interestingly, as a new member, I find that out of all the discussion forums on the internet that I am active in, this one has the lowest "meat ratio". In other words, responses are usually about how not to post questions instead of providing "meat" --- i.e. an answer. I assume that is because the people waving the rulebook around don't really know the answer but want to feel "needed" in the forum.
Garmin Fix
What Rom are you running?
I ask because with the base ATT 6.0 rom my Garmin would bomb - the GPS would not start without running somthing like GPS test, Windows Live, or Google.
I am having great success with Death V4 Business Lite
Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401110 Death V4 Business – This is the most stable my phone has ever been…
Radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398177
Neon 1.65.24.36 This is the fastest GPS fix I have ever seen (even faster than my running GPS with latest firmware – super fast processor starting at the exact spot it was turned off at… The internet connection is the fastest all of the guys in the threads have seen. 2X better then the ATT rom. Battery life seems good – no hard data yet.
Remember to get new Hard SPL before you do the radio or the image. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922
Be warned - your mileage may varry...
6.1 is much more stable with Mobile XT than 6.0 was.
Note that when you are navigating with Mobile XT it overrides your screen sleep settings. All other operations (settings, map, etc...) do not override.
So - Based on my experience with tens of Roms and Garmin - I would say that you are having compatibility issues between Rom, Hard SPL, and radio...
When navigating Garmin should never go into screen low power mode. None of the tweak software will help.
Thanks, I'll try the new radio first -- and then a new ROM if I have to. (I am running Dutty's Diamond 6.1).
Its in the Garmin App....
I have the newest Garmin from the website, free so i would recomend it. However, the "backlight override" is found in the garmin settings under display...It only seems to work during a route though...
Jh
By the way,
I have use Leo's V 9, worked flawlessly,
I am now using romeosv3.1/4, it works really well too!

Sorry to sound rude, I'm really not trying, it just happens that way. This is not up for debate. They are the rules.
What I was saying was the OP posted two threads with two different questions about the Same Product. Common Law states you make one "Garmin XT Questions" Thread.
That's how things are done here, if you don't like it, sorry, you won't be able to change them.
LOL -- go Jimmy go! Lay down those laws and make people obey! I'm sure you can shape the world just the way you like it.

No need, its already in the shape I want. Just trying to maintain.
Also, I didn't make the laws, I'm just helping maintain them. Think of me as a reserve constable or perhaps a vigilante.
