IE locking up! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

if i open up ie it just locks the phone up, is there something simple to fix this, or is it just a case of unistalling my programs to it works again?
anyway to remove ie from the phone? and re install it
opera runs fine, but i like IE !

Did you move the IE cache to the storage card? This does not work on the P4550 yet and causes IE to luck up....

That is cool, kudos for finding it. It's pretty much the blackberry qwerty phone pad, but virtual.
Nice find. I might give this a try.
Currently I am using the excellent pocketcm keyboard and i can type really fast with that. Can be found here

tks 4 sharing.
Now that I have seen the youtube video on this, I like this more than pocketcm. Really excellent product. You must see the youtube video to realise what an innovative product this is. Pocketcm R.I.P
I was amazed after watching the you tube video. Also if you go to the download section it is free until 8th dec 2007!! I've just downloaded going to try it out now.
I grabbed a copy to give it a try, ran the CAB, and when I select "TouchPal" for my input method, it just rolls right back to the standard keyboard. Anyone else have that particular issue? It looks great for one-handed operation, but...
Install went to the device, not the storage card, so please don't suggest that as a fix.
PerfAlbion I just installed to main memory and all is fine. I had to select it and straight away had a intro screen come up. All I can suggest is to uninstall and reinstall. It does work.
wow nice find, thanks!

Try a soft reset. I had to do that before I could use the keyboard myself. Once I soft reset however ... off the the races!!

The install instructions tell you to install, then soft reset as mentioned. I did the power-off reset and it works fine.
Just when you think that these things can be improved any further, Thanks for sharing!

I should have mentioned I did that too, I suppose.
Actually, I did it twice just to make sure. Must be a conflict with some other app I've got loaded up...

Yeppers. Installed to main memory. With the RAM/ROM on this puppy, I doubt I'll put much on my SD card but music or maps for the GPS.
Is anyone using it successfully with SPB PhoneSuite/MobileShell/PocketPlus? Those and AgendaOne are the primary apps I suspect would be conflicting.
this is keyboard is awesome, the only thing i wnat is the space bar to be in the middle (like the video) is everyones space bar to the left or is it in the middle...
You can just drag and drop it into the middle !
It doesn't show up
Hi.
I have installed it to the device - soft reset - and it doesn't show up! I can see it in remove programs and if I search for 'touchpal' I find in Program Files/TouchPal/touchpal.dll as well as the help file and some dictionary files.
But I cannot find the executable to run it.
Any help?
Thanks.
Never Mind. Sorry for the noise.
It was working.... I wasn't

Sounds like you figured it out but for others that may read this, in order to activate Touchflo you have to choose it from the keyboard input pop up that comes up when you tap the keyboard icon on the screen. Took me awhile to figure this out as well

My first hard reset - what can I expect?

So I'm wanting to do my first hard reset.
It doesn't look like we're going to get any video drivers (soon or if ever), so I'm looking to try and squeeze some more performance out of my device. I've read that a hard reset makes things a bit better.
I've also installed and uninstalled a TON of software while trying to learn what I like and don't. I've figured out what I want and I've decided that what I'm installing should all be on my memory card anyway. So, the memory in the device is fragmented and I'm probably taking a performance hit from that.
What I want to know, is what to expect? What am I going to lose? I have an AT&T tilt. If I do a hard reset - I don't have to flash the ROM or anything like that, do I? Is it like performing a hard reset on any other phone? (Loss of contacts, pre-installed software from the service provider, etc etc)
Is it any different with a PPC?
After looking around, I didn't find much as to getting this question directly answered. If it is posted somewhere, can someone link me to it?
Thanks in advance!
It will simply go back to its "out of the box" state, like the very first time you turned it on.
The pre-installed software from the provider will load up again automatically, in five or ten minutes, you'll be good to go.
Then just adjust the settings to your personal taste/preferences, install the software you've found on xda-developers or elsewhere (I take it you have them backed up on your card or PC?) and you're back in the game!

What about installed applications on the storage-card? Are they automatically recognized again or do they require reinstallation?

just like when installing a windows-based computer, the applications installed on the storage card will not be automatically recognised, since the entry in the registry and all the .dll files from /windows directory are gone. you need to get the "kit" for a certain application - namely the .cab file - and reinstall it again, even if it will overwrite the most number of files on the card itself.
hope i was somehow clear.

*The reason you hide is silly. You really just need to close your eyes tightly. When you hard reset there is a gamma light energy release that has been known to slightly burn the retina of peoples eyes. Over time this can cause cataracts. So look away or close your eyes tightly.

Sorry if this is a stupid question!

I am quite new to ROM flashing, but have been successful and am now able to do it with no problems.
My question is simple:-
Could some someone please define the word TILT in the following sentance.
"Tilt owners, install additional cabs"
I though that all Keizer's were Tilt devices, or am I wrong? How do I know if I am a Tilt owner?
Sorry if it's a stupid question.

Yup its a stupid question alright. Naw just playing.
The Tilt is A "Kaiser" Per se but a Kaiser is not a Tilt. you know like a rectangle is a square but a square is not a rectangle.
Functionally they are the same however, the keyboard appears different, hence the need for the Keyboard Fix cab and there is no Video call Camera in the front. Oh and there is the unbearable need to have AT&T as a carrier.
And it would appear... slower roms too...

I really don't have a problem, once the bloatware is removed that is. At least its very easy to remove AT&T bloatware completely on a Tilt. No need to flash to get rid of it.

Its really easy to remove the bloatware on an AT&T Tilt. Takes about 5 minutes total. The AT&T internet settings and such will stay. It will remain fully functional. If you want stuff back like Cingular Video or Media mall you will have to reinstall those separately.
First of all you must realize when you are done the phone will be just like it came out of the box, minus the bloatware. You will have to reinstall any applications installed to the device, and redo all previously applied hacks. Backup anything you don't want lost that is in storage memory, and move it to your storage card. Anything on your storage card is safe. Once everything you don't want lost is safely backed up or moved you can proceed.
Click Start --> Settings --> System tab --> Clear Storage
Enter "1234" and click YES.
Device will reboot.
When it comes back up have your stylus ready. It will ask you to align the screen (Tap the crosshairs), set the time zone & clock, etc.
When done you will see a green screen that says something like "You have now setup your device, tap the screen to begin using Windows Mobile..."
As soon as you tap and the today screen opens you will see a text box popup saying "Software install will begin in 3 seconds" Quickly soft reset the phone before this install begins. Do this by inserting the Stylus in the reset hole in the bottom of the device and press before the install begins.
Device will reboot.
When it comes back up you will be free of AT&T Bloatware.
You may now redo all of your hacks and reinstall your software. You will notice a lot more available storage memory and RAM available.
Enjoy!

No, I don't have a list of everything the bloatware install ads, hides, or otherwise changes. I know Internet connection sharing is hidden and replaced with the AT&T dialer application. Then there's all the 30 second trial versions of the games that are gone as well.
After you remove the bloatware all the cabs for the bloatware are in the windows directory. If there's anything missing like Cingular Video, or anything else like that, that you can't live without just run the appropriate *.cab file and install it. I prefer this way as you can selectively install just what you want, and leave out the rest.

LOL, I've had mine since November and I haven't flashed yet. I haven't found a need to so far. I am heavily tweaked and modded though... I've been thinking about flashing, but I generally don't flash a device until my warranty expires, but that's just me. I think the only exception was with my classic model V3. I think I flashed that phone the day I got it to remove the Cingular crap. It was not necessary to flash the Tilt to remove the AT&T crap, so I haven't flashed ... yet.

Yeah, mine still worked. Just the crap is gone. Remember you will have to reinstall everything, and setup your device again, so make sure you have all that stuff ready. Its a good idea to keep all of your cabs in a folder on your storage card so you don't have to look for that stuff when you hard reset.

Activesync problems

Tried to search about it but i couldnt find anything usefull.
When i try to copy (i drag n drop to memory card) its not able to copy files that are bigger the ~100MB.
The file im trying to copy is 184,4MB and it stops without any erros after about 75% and then retrys again n again in a endless loop(i think. i have not verifyed the endless part ).
Have anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it??

Is this useful enough for you Copying large files using Activesync to Kaiser SD card issues..
Been there, done that
PS It'd help our cause if you complain to HTC about it. They seem to go by the old 'we'll only fix it when we've received lots of complaints about it' philosophy
PPS Are you aware that there may be a slightly newer HTC ROM available (with a better Radio) for your device (assuming it's HTC branded)?
Thanks for all the help

Think of the Kaiser as a little like one of those desktop PCs that comes from a mega-corporate supplier and has a hidden recovery partition on the hard disk drive. It's even easier with the Kaiser though because you dont need to have a recovery CDROM to start the process, you just run the Clear Storage Memory function and it clears things up, back to like new (well at least the latest ROM that was loaded). If you're new here, it's worth reading the wiki - certainly before you do any flashing.

The problem is that Microsoft wont take feedback directly from end users on this but only from their direct customers, the OEMs who make the Pocket PCs so we have to complain to them.

I have been reading and reading about 3-4 weeks now and im getting there.
I see Windows Mobile as a funny combination of Win95 OSR2 and some NT4.
The OS is as buggy as Win95 and the file structure is almost the same.
Im guessing the filesystem is FAT16 with the same fragmentation problems.
Same idiotical problems, install one thing to get something else stop working.
But at the same time alot of the programs are standalone so im building a program folder on my SDcard so when i do a hardreset i just have to copy the shortcuts to my start-menu and i have about 40 programs ready to be used.
I use Card Export to convert the phone into a card reader. Solved my problems of large file (like movies) transfers.

Messaging locks up unresponsive

This has happened a couple of times and then mysteriously self corrects after a few hours. The messaging feature (texts and emails) fails to respond at all. I can not get it to open, will not display incoming texts, can not do anything. I am using SPB Mobile Shell with WM 6.1. It does not appear related to Mobile Shell because it fails to open from any screen at all.
Anyone?
same problem here
I have the same problem over here, except that ist completely not responding not even after a few hours or so...it worked fine all the time
I think it has do to with the installation of wm61voip.cab which unlocks the voip feature ...not sure about that but it was the last "major" change I made....
im running the wm 6.1 official htc rom on the kaiser
im completely clueless how to solve it...at least emailing was a real cool feature at all :\

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350862
works great for me...deleted inbox* from the storage card, also another guy wrotes it works if he removes the storage card to read his mail
so I guess a work around could be to not save attachments on the card, which is a setting Id use...and the reason why the inbox folder was created...?!
thanks and greets

Delete the Inbox.mstXXXXXXXXX folder in the root folder of ur microsd card, perform a soft reset and u guys shd be fine. I'm supposing you guys have the "use storage card to store attachements" option checked.
Thank me later

Yep. That did it. Very obscure problem. I posted the solution on the ATT Board as well, since someone there was just as miffed.

you welcome....im glad i was able to help, thanks for spreading the knowledge
I have to give thanks as well, I thought I was going to have to hard-reset or something, and was not thrilled about that. Deleting the inbox.mst folder did the trick. Thanks a ton!
