I'll think you'll find there is something encoded into the o2 standard ROM to prevent this working. I got the same thing when trying to install GPRS monitor (comes free on the o2 apps CD). I was trying to install the older version that I'd had on my HTC Universal (o2 Executive) since WM5 days so it can't be that the ROM is out of date since it worked on a 2+ year old ROM and later a WM6 ROM from the Universal section. Once I tried installing the GPRS monitor that came with the Stellar it was fine (same program wierdly, not sure about the version number).
Not sure if this helps in any way, but o2 may have got something on their ROM that prevents certain programs from loading, since they are pushing Co-Pilot it may be that they don't want you loading up TomTom. If you think this shouldn't be the case, just look at the way most Nokia's don't play well with other manufacturers bluetooth equipment, Nokia went and made the open bluetooth standard kinda proprietary, so why not o2 with their entire OS?!

I got TomTom to work, I think it as 6.030 rather than 6.032...will play around with it...but it does wor.
Anyway I had to do a hard reset and that package now says wrong ROM servsion or some thing.
Also, there are 3 icon on the bottom right hand corner, is this that taskbar?
If so does anyone know how to remove it or maybe add more icons to it?
thanks

hi i have sort of got the tom tom to work the application opens ok, but it cant find a sat, signal. has anyone any ideas

Yes it's the task bar. I have no idea how to remove it ( I did this once with my old HTC phone and do you think I can find the instructions on this site as to how to do it?! ). If you search on HTC home or HTC homeplug, it should give you loads of posts about how people have added more to it. Personally I want rid just to get the extra screen space, so if you find out, please share!
For the GPS thing, make sure you are either outside, or near a window, it can take a while for that first fix. Is there a GPS status page on TomTom? If so, are you getting a signal from the GPS, just no satalite lock, or not even getting a signal?

Get your O2 Plus Beta here :) <--------- Must have :D

Here's the O2 Plus beta which I got off my GF's Mini Works great and who needs 3rd parties plug in now
reply
And whats this supposed to be???
Inspection of the CAB file shows it to be some kind of today plugin called O2+tdy.dll and an associated exe called 02plus.exe.
Wary about installing at the moment - may look later!
Anyone else willing to try and give some feedback as to what it does?
It's a Today's plugin from O2... It adds things like Alarm, Call divert status, profile, batt status, memory status, MSN Messager status, application shortcuts etc etc to your Today's menu or the bottom task bar.. It's even more useful than Battery Pack Pro IMO.
So far, it's only available for download from a Mini, and it's still in Beta stage, but I have no problem using it on my IIs so far.
It might slow your BA down quite a bit if you have the Today's menu plugn on, but I'm only using the bottom task bar plugin and so far it's excellent. Give it a shot if you don't trust me
Doesn't want to run on my O2 XDAIIs (UK) version.
Installs ok - but get the following error message when plugin is activated omn today screen;
"O2 plus for XDA application is designed for O2 devices which can't run on other devices"
Informative eh ?!?
Cheers
Mark
Wait... On my IIs, I'm running Imate ROM but with cooked original O2 Ext. ROM, I guess the program checks for provider of the Ext. ROM??? What are you running?
Original software & ROM as supplied by O2 UK.
Another thing to note - when plugin is installed, the screen on my XDAIIs seems to try & refresh every 5 seconds or so ... very annoying (You can see it physically flicker & refresh). Just disabled the plugin (even though it doesn't work) and the problem has gone away !!
Anyone else having any luck on an XDAIIs ?
Cheers
Mark
I will give it a try... lets have a look what happens
Get an error after install saying O2 plus for Xda application is designed for o2 devices, which can't run on other devices. Seems to think its installed, if you go into
Start > Settings > Today - Items Tab ... seems to be there, get the same error when you try to go into it's options too. Never mind, im running the Imate CE rom, listings in my sig.
o2-plus is designed for xda IIs , mini , PM10A and PH20B.
If you use other devices (include xdaII) , you will receive error message.
Glad to report that this one works just fine !!
Installed on my XDAIIs, and now 'playing' with the additionnal icons that have appeared at the bottom.
Many Thanks
Mark

XDA IIs ROM upgrade - June 2005 (english version)

hi guys,
i'm not sure if anyone has posted this but here I go...
has anyone tried using the XDA IIS rom upgrade of June 2005 posted at O2 website? I'm about to try it but I'm afraid to do it since there might be bugs on it.
would like to ask you guys if it's ok to upgrade to this ROM. Currently, my ROM is 1.12.62 WWE. As much as possible, I'm settling for O2 official releases but I just wanna make sure if this one's ok.
cheers!
Currently i'm using the latest update o2 Asia and so far it works really good except a little problem that i found with the camera that makes the brightness set to maximum. And also the HTC caller ID problem [ringtone and picture display doesn't work].
Overall, it runs smoothly.
I hope this helps.
does this mean that currently you don't have caller ID display and ringtone on your IIs?
cheers!
sometimes it's on and sometimes it's off, when it's off i rerun the caller id from the startup directory, or you can install 3rd party software like photo contacts.
Is this ROM ok to load onto a UK XDA IIs? Has anyone done this?
IIs user from Philippines
I flashed my IIs with the new official ROM.
I find it more stable than the old ROM plus other new features like WMPver.10. Well worth the upgrade. I could view videos of websites (eg.INQ7) which under the OLD ROM I cannot.
After the ROM and Radio Update, I uninstalled the O2Plus. I didnt noticed any increase in stability or speed after unistalling it though.
I also updated the Radio ROM to Ver.1.13 which I got from WIKI.xda-developers.com.
BTW, I got my IIs from Globe. I still retain the GPRS setting plus gain a new GPRS setting for my SUN SIM. ALSO, I use a DUAL SIM Adaptor which I bought from 3rd Glorietta Cell Stall. There is also GPRS Setting for SMART just in case you got yours from there.
You could also install the O2 II Plus, GPRS Counter and ZIP Manager from official O2 site. I dont use it as it slows down the IIs. I tried yesterday DKToday2.8 but it slows down a bit the IIs.
Only the following softwares are now installed (IIs is very stable and quick):
PshutXP
CorePlayer
Agile Mobile
Avantgo
ChessPPC
Skype
WordNet (dictionary)
In the Green Theme
Cai, Go ahead you will not go wrong. PM if you need help.
OVERALL, I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE UPDATE.
thanks xcalibur! this is great news. I've really needed people's idea on the new rom of O2 before installing it, especially philippine users. I got mine from globe too...i'll try this then....
cheers!
O2 June 2005 version
I loaded the latest O2 Asia version recently. I was, too, apprehensive about bugs and the like. However, I haven't found anything but improvement in my XDA IIs performance up to now. I would recommend it.
I've been using the new O2 ROM since its release and I think it's garbage.
Slightly more rleiable than the previous version but my phone still requires resetting 3 times a day due to hang ups, freezing, crashing when trying to switch to landscape and so on.
If you intend to upgrade the radio to 1.13 then, use asia apparently i have done some testing. Tried o2uk,imate,qtek and once u upgrade the 1.13 for their rom, it causes the device to lag terribly. I would suggest you to do the upgrade to the ASIA version if you are intending to upgrade to 1.13 radio
else, i think any of the rest should be ok..
ASIA 1.40.923 WWE
I concur. The Asia WWE with the 1.13 is working well for me. Still have some problems with bluetooth out of memory and not being able to access BT manager, but over all the best combo I have used. Battery life seems much improved and switching between GPRS and Wi-Fi works very well on this ROM combo. Using in conjunction with phone Alarm (1.13] and AlarmToday. Auto profile switching and wake to music, all working well..
june update ???
am i being a bit thick ???
the only version i can see for download on the O2 uk site is the february update. Can someone supply a link straight to the download ???
swerver
That's the latest official one from O2 UK, but most of the other providers have already released their 1.40 versions, which are all available on the wiki site: www.wiki.xda-developers.com

June Update ???
At the top of this thread it says that the O2 site has the june update, he didnt mention WIKI site ????
Just tried the link you gave and it gave an error ???
swerver
I believe that the first poster is probably taling about the O2 Asia ROM that is on the O2 Asia site. As far as I know, O2 UK have not released their new 1.40 version yet.
The link I posted should have taken you to the companion site to this one, where all the various ROMs and upgrade tools are posted. Are you familiar with the wiki site¿ There is a direct link to it in the header of this thread I believe. Let me know if you have problems finding it.

Chris
hi guys,
i've seen the ROM upgrade from O2 asia site. It's found in www.seeo2.com.

Asian Rom upgrade 1.40 for Xda IIs
I really must be thick, but I cannot find the actual file to download. I am registered at seeo2.com, get to the instructions page on how to install it but somehow miss the actual link to install it! Can anyone help me with the actual download link or another site to download the file
Thanks Guys
Hi Smithy
There is a link at the top of this page to, www.wiki.xda-developers.com
Navigate there and follow the links to Blue Angel. All the shipped ROMS are posted on that site, plus the 1.13 radio, which I do not think is part of the original O2Asia ROM. I believe it only had 1.12
The site also has comprehensibe instructions on how to upgrade. Let us know if you get stuck.

I've recently upgraded my XDA IIs' ROM to the June 2005 version (1.40 something). The note on the O2 website indicates that we can set mp3 ringtones already. Here are my findings:
1) Under Phone in Settings/Personal, it still doesn't have the option of setting mp3s as ringtone, it seems to be looking for .wav files only.
2) The Photo Contacts that came with the phone has the option of choosing mp3s, it can even preview the file, but whenever I try dialling my phone using my friend's, it goes back to default, not just the default I have setup in Settings/Personal/Phone, it uses the Windows Default tone. How come? Can anyone shed some light on this one?
3) Are there any battle tested programs/apps out there which can activate the mp3 ringtones feature the new ROM promised, and that works with XDA IIs? Help! :?
Hi Yaozer
I have not seen where you can set a MP3 as a ringtone... The only files mine sees are .wav, wma and midi. I use phoneAlarm by PocketMax (www.pocketmax.net), which does allow you to set a wake up alarm that activates a MP3 file. The file has to be in main storage I believe. Activating one a a ringtone may be in a forthcoming version.

Hide unwanted icons in programs ?

I know i can delete some from Windows/Start Menu/Programs
The ones I want to hide, are things like, Getting Started, Internet Sharing, Messenger, O2, Resco Update, Voice Recorder, Voice Speed Dial,Windows Live and Worldcard mobile.
Im sure I had a program before that did it, but cant for the life of me, remember its name, or where I got it.
Preferably free, or just one with a trial so I can hide them and then uninstall it.
Cheers,
Tony
Use a program like Total Commander to remove the link you wish from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Total Commander is free and can be found here http://www.ghisler.com/pocketpc.htm
Best bet for this one is to read the WIKI and learn how to flash a cooked ROM. Choose one you like the looks of you and you will only have the apps on it that you like. plus you will get rid of all of that bloatware operators install as default
I flashed with the new HTC one, which removed all the O2 crap.
For some reason they didnt appear (the icons i wanted to delete) when i tried the first time in file explorer.
so just to clarify you have flashed the new official ROM but still have the o2 progs on the phone?
Has it all been unlocked both SIM and CID and hard SPL'ed?
Sorry Im at bit of a loss as to how this has happened
yep, got the new rom, says 6.1 (previously 6) on startup screen, sms threading works, so its upgraded. all thats there of O2's is the program to get o2 settings. I think anyway.
Before i upgraded, i had a small O2 taskbar with a little O2 task manager, thats now gone.
I have had the phone a few days, and while briefly reading over the wiki, havnt had a good in depth read yet, so i have no idea how to check if its sim or cid free, or hard spl'ed.
I tried using hard spl, but got a white screen, so i followed a tutorial in another thread and it worked.
(And the 4th edit ) ... I assume it is sim/cid free, when i tried running the update utility the first time it said something along the lines of its not possible with that carrier.
If it says not possible with carrier then to me it would suggest that it still is SIM locked search for OliPros SMI/CID unlocker and follow the instructions on that to unlock the handset. If it has been updated to WM6.1 and still having probs after you have followed all of these steps then these programs are more than likely cooked into that ROM so there is no physical way of uninstalling them as they are part of the OEM. But TBH you would be better off getting one of the cooked ROMs from our ROM section as they work a damn sight better than the official release and incluse much better apps
It 'said' not possible, then i used another app, which i deleted since and cant remember.
Then it updated fine.
I have now installed everything and re-set it up 3 times. I might wait a while before flashing to a custom rom. Its all the talk of radios that confuses me at the moment. Like i said, when i get chance, ill sit and read through everything properly.
lol I was the same when I first started but you will find that everyone on this forum will help you if you ask nicely. Also although the flashing sounds complicated its really as simple as dl the ROM and click a couple buttons on your PC.
BTW Welcome to XDA
Thanks
First chance i get ill sit down and read properly
Right, i think I have installed Duttys rom correctly.
Device information now says,
Rom Version : Dualtouch v6 WWE
ROM Date : 03/04/08
Radio Version : 1.65.16.25
SMS works, calls work, internet works, my only gripe so far is a slow boot time, it seems slower than before.
Now to install everything again for a 4th time

Install 1.93 ROM Default Theme on Vodafone Touch Diamond?

Guys,
New user - very impressed, found lots of good stuff here - hoping someone can help with this one:
I have had my Vodafone Touch Diamond for just over a month - very nice phone, awful speed!!! I hate the Vodafone default theme, so I had installed the default black one that I found here - very nice looking theme!!
Now I have just upgraded to the 1.93 Vodafone ROM, and the phone finally runs at a half-decent pace - problem is the nasty Vodafone them is back. I then re-installed the old black theme I had, and it has slowed the phone right down again (in fact slower than it was on the old ROM, and some graphics weren't as good) - it looks like the 1.93 ROM has a newer version of Touchflo (or is it the theme?). Basically, the phone, on the settings screen, says it is running Touchflo 3D version 1.1.34574.1_1630.38. It clearly is different, as the animation is less, and there are subtle changes (alphabetical index when selecting country or town in Weather, for example).
I would rather have the newer TouchFlo (the losses in animation are worth it for good performance).
So the question - anyone know where I can get the updated black Touchflo software for the 1.93 ROM? I appreciate I could flash a non-voda ROM into the phone, but would rather not - don't want to lose my Voda sat-nav, for instance.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated, guys.
Thanks
Paul
Hi Paul From Swindon,
I'm Nathan From Oxford lol....oh the hatred (football Terms)
I'm using the vodafone ROM and i installed this great Diamond TF3D Config Tool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405749
I then also got the Black Diamond Theme, can't remember the link for that and saved it to my internal storage.
I then used the Config tool to install the black theme.
Its fairly quick and keeps the extras like sat nav etc.
I did try installing the new HTC ROM however it DID like you say removed all the settings and the vodafone extras. so it took me about an hour to find and install the Vodafone one again.
Annoying!
Also in Oxford
hi guys, Ralf here also in Oxford. I've had my Diamond for about the same time and been playing with some of the tweaks to try and speed it up. Interestingly I bumped into a guy in Carphonewarehouse the other day who was the Microsoft Trainer for the Diamond. He was great and spent about 20 mins showing me around some areas of the phone. The unit he was running was not Vodafone branded and was so amazingly quick. I've managed to up the speed a bit but it's still slow in comparison to the unit I saw the MS guy with.
To be honest I've been very wary of trying one of the other ROM upgrades as I don't want to brick my handset or loose the Vodafone Sat Nav etc.
I just looked and my handset is on ROM 1.37.161.2 dated 26/6/08.
Can you please point me in the direction of where you got the latest Vodfone ROM from and how easy it to apply it (I should also add that I'm using a Mac not a PC so if there is some PC based tool then I'll have a small problem using it).
Thanks
Ralf
heres the link for the official vodafone ROM update LINK
its a piece of cake to install, but not sure about using a mac!
just a quick thought about the vodafone sat nav;
once you've clicked through the initial link, it just downloads a cab (installation) file,
which is easy enough to find and copy through active sync onto your computer for safe keeping.
Thanks
Cheers for the info and link there, I managed to download the installer and am just waiting now until the new PC laptop I ordered for my wife arrives at the weekend so that I can give it a go.
Thanks
Ralf
In Finland here. I want to use the official ROM as well, but my provider doesn't have one available, and the HTC Europe site tells me that the ROM updater is not for my device.
Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device.
I am a registered e-club member, with the serial number registered. How can I get the ROM properly? Or if I install this one from Vodafone, will it affect my phone somehow?

Hi Nwilko,
Did you have to install HardSPL before flashing original HTC rom?
Hi Guys,
Thanks for your thoughts so far - sorry, been off-line all week.
Nathan, thanks for your thoughts - this is what I tried doing, but when I installed the defalt black theme from this site via the config tool, it went incredibly slowly, and lost some of the new features in the TouchFlo system, such as alphabetical indexes on the weather, and seemed to return some of the aminations that had been taken out - it was taking up to 5 seconds to scrol between main screens, much worse than before - I also noticed I couldn't read some of the text.
I guess what I could do with is the Touchflo software from the 1.93 ROM update. It, I assume, exists as a cab that installs when you first switch on a non-branded phone after a ROM update. I am guessing that default one already comes with the black theme, and has the speed and menu improvements.
I have tried to live with the Voda theme for the last week, but there is no getting away from the fact that it looks terrible. The whole phone just looks so good when the black theme is applied.
I am tempted just to try and install the HTC ROM and scrap my Voda one. I really didn't want to lose Sat-Nav - I agree the link on the Voda ROM just downloads a Cab file, but I am worried it won't activate - does something in the ROM tell it that ot's on a free subscription, or does the website activate it from the mobile number - I don't want to pay 4.99 per month for it! Anyone tried it?
Thanks
Paul
Guys,
Gave up on trying to get a newer black theme for my Vodafone TD. Bit the bullet, and installed Hard-SPL, and the latest factory ROM (thanks in large part to the exceellent info on this site!).
So far all looks good - nice and quick, lovely black theme once more, nice speed, and newer radio ROM too (the new Voda Rom still had older radio version).
Fingers crossed, it seems much better - and because I kept the Vodafone Sat-Nav CAB file, re-installed it and it seems to work fine!!
Coolio!!

very good comments .I don't have time to do it now I am travelling abroad. I will be grateful if someone try it on vodafone devise, and rate it.
so, does anyone have the default black tf3d theme from a 1.93 rom?

Newbies guide. How to get your Orange SPVM700 (Trinity) running WinMo6.5

Get yourself an xda-developers account so you can ask questions and become part of the community.
I know when I started looking into all this it just seemed like such a daunting task. There was so much information I just didn't know where to start. I looked and looked for a guide that would explain it all to me in one go but just couldn't find one. I had to read around for days trying to get all the information and tools needed to do it, then I had to experiment with lots of failures and swearing before I got the technique right.
It was only when a friend asked if I'd help him flash his M700 that I started to write a pretty detailed email for him. I then decided I'd post it here for you guys who are struggling because I know a few days ago I would have killed for something like this.
Right, we're gonna do the following:
1. Unlock the phone so you can use any SIM and any ROM even though it's locked to orange.
2. Upgrade the HARD SPL to OliPro 1.20
3. Upgrade the Radio version to 1.56.70.11
4. Upgrade the ROM to WinMo 6.5
5. Install a couple of little extras
First off make sure you have the latest ActiveSync 4.5 installed.
1. OK, first lets unlock it:
Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293957 and download HTC_Trinity_SIM_CID_Unlock_v1.zip
You just have to plug the phone in so it connects and run the Auto_unlock_v1.bat and follow the prompts.
It'll put your phone into bootloader (the tri colour screen) then flash it with a new radio. It's a really early version of the radio (1.16...) but it doesn't matter cos we'll upgrade that later.
It'll turn itself off when it's done so you need to turn it back on but leave it plugged in.
Keep following the prompts and eventually, it'll ask you on the phone screen if you want to unlock it. Say yes to both.
There we go, now you have an unlocked phone. But the old radio has probably made it so your satnav won't work.
2. Next let's get a new Hard SLP on there so you can flash other ROMs and Radios. This is the bit that took me ages cos finding the right one isn't too easy. I tried a couple but they wouldn't flash the radio then I heard about Olipro 1.20. I could only get hold of the latest version Olipro 1.30 and it took a while to track down an earlier copy. The latest 1.30 version doesn't work when flashing the 1.56 Radio so you need to have the 1.20 version.
Download the Olipro Hard SPL 1.2 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380093&page=20 post #196
This is basically just another bit of software that will replace the SPL on your phone so you can flash Radio's and ROMs at your leisure.
Again, make sure the phone is plugged in and connected and run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe. It'll stick your phone in bootloader and do a little update that won't take long at all.
3. Now we're ready to flash the Radio. This is basically the drivers and settings of the phone that are there regardless of the actual version of windows you have. So once you flashed this radio (which is the most up to date) you can stick any version of windows mobile on the top and this will still be here at version 1.56.
Download the 1.56.70.11 Radio from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380093&page=5 post #44
Don't worry that it's all in Chinese. It still does the business on the phone and it's all still in english afterwards. You just have to remember which buttons you clicked on and which boxes you ticked from when you used the ROMUpdateUtility before.
WARNING! This will hard reset your phone right back to factory defaults after it's done, You need to ensure you've backed up all your numbers and files etc. You have been warned.
Connect your phone again and run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the 1.56 radio folder.
This will take a little bit longer, it took about 5 mins to do the update on mine.
Once it's complete you will need to turn your phone on again. It will first of all display the version of ROM then for a brief moment it will flash the Radio version on the screen, if it says 1.56.70.11 then you've got it right, if not then you'll have to try another HARDSPL tool. Don't worry if you miss it cos you can always check it on the 'Settings | System | Device Information' tab.
4. Ok now this is the bit where the choice is entirly up to you and you really do have to do what everyone says and experiment. There is no 'One ROM to rule them all...' Everyone wants different things from their operating system and you just have to play around until you get one you like. Some people want all the fancy bells and whistles of Manila2D (Touchflo) from 6.1 or the fancy honey cone start menu that comes with 6.5. I personally wanted a fast and stable operating system with has lots of free RAM and not too much rubbish that will slow the phone down. Remember our beloved Trinity's are getting a bit long in the tooth these days and even the most modern handsets (eg Touch HD) have trouble with WinMo 6.5 in some of it's forms. If you just want to get it upgraded then try this one out to start with, then when you realise how easy it is you can flash away til your hearts content.
Download Tomme45i's brilliant 6.5 ROM from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545758 You'll struggle to find a faster ROM out there. This is the 27017v2 which is one of the latest releases of WinMo6.5 out htere.
Connect the phone and run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the folder. Follow the prompts as usual and after about 5 mins it should have finished.
Turn your phone back on and hey presto! you're up and running with WinMo6.5.
All you have to do is re-sync you phone and all your numbers are back then you're away.
See that wasn't too bad was it. All it took was a few days researching on the XDA forums and endless head scratching when things didn't work. I think most of that time was just because I was unsure exactly what to do and in what order. if I'd just had a guide like this to at least get me through once I'd have found it a lot easier. You should still go away and do the research into any software or ROM/Radio you want to use because the threads contain a lot of useful information.
NEVER post a questions until you've read the whole thread cos chances are it's already been answered.
5. Just a couple of pointers about the ROM.
It was made by a Polish guy so there are a couple of things set to Polish. You will have to change the regional settings in 'Settings | System | Regional Settings' back to the country of your origin.
Also the finger keyboard is set to Polish and he hasn't included any other languages. You'll have to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545758&page=3 to post #30. Download the skin set and copy it to your Windows\Skins folder on your device. This will allow you to select other languages for the keyboard.
It is quite a bare ROM so for that added little bit of BLING I added the S2U2 screen locking application. It basically gives you that little unlocking slider thingy from the iPhone (spit). Go to somewhere like http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Enhancements/S2U2-52386.shtml to download the CAB and install it as normal.
I also hate IE6 on these tiny screens. For a much better browsing experience I recommend Opera from http://www.opera.com/mobile/ You can scroll around the page and double click to zoom in. The tool bars also disappear when your browsing to give you more screen to play with. It works for me, you may not like it.
So that about wraps it up for this guide. I hope some of you total newbies find it a bit less daunting this way and will not be too scared to give other ROMs a try in the future, It's all about what you like and what you want out of your phone at the end of the day.
Please don't forget to donate some money to the chefs (especially Tomme45i) for all thier hard work if you appreciate their product. It doesn't have to be loads even if its only a pound or two. If everyone does it it mounts up. A happy chef is a chef who gets paid and releases lots of fixes/upgrades.
Do I have to take out memory card during this proccess?
Others have said you have to. but I must admit, I forgot at least once when i was flashing a ROM and it didn't seem to make any difference.
Best to take it out I guess as one of the other steps might rely on it not being in there.
Let me know how it goes.
Fantastic!
Only question-do you have P3600 or P3600i?
I have VPA compact GPS (P3600) and it seems to be different ROMs for them?
As far as I know the P3600 is exactly the same as the M700 except it has different casing. I'm currently using a different WinMo6.5 ROM with Manila that was made for a P3600 with no problems.
The P3600i has twice as much RAM memory and does require different ROM's to run.
I did it all that you said and everything is working fine, thanks for great info.
But I dont like installed ROM that you suggested and I want to flash with other one. My question is what I should flash, only ROM or I have to flash radio, olipro...?
The Radio and OliPro are now on your device until you decide to change them and overwrite them with something else. You only need to download a new ROM and install that on your phone as in the last stage of the tutorial.
This ROM by Tomme45i is very quick and very stable but it is quite simple too. Most people want something a bit more flashy. The problem with that is, with our old phones, the more bling you add the slower and more unstable they become.
I have recently put a good ROM on my phone. It is by Narshorn. It has the 23016 build of Windows 6.5 and a nice Manila2D front end (as well as the CHome front end where all the items are stacked top to bottom but I don't like that. I much prefer Manila2D). I think he is about to release a new version of it with some bug fixes in today (09/09/09) so it might be worth waiting for that.
Here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549146
It's well worth reading the thread to get a feel for the limitations the ROM has, but so far I've found it to be very fast and stable.
Don't forget to donate to Narshorn for all his hard work. You only have to give him a few pounds and it all adds up. He had over 200 people download his last build and only 2 donated.
The best thing to do at this point is to head over to the ROM development thread and just READ READ READ.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=359
Choosing a ROM is a very personal thing. Some will be perfect for someone and horrible for his friend. It just depends what you're looking for.
I only wrote this guide to get people started, the rest of the adventure is up to you to discover.
Good luck
I install tryniti 6.1. OS ultimate edition and for now I am satisfied.
Glad to hear it. Stick a link in to that ROM so others can try it out if they want.
Of course for me, I'd always try and find a 6.5 build because it has lots of finger friendly additions that mean you never have to get your stylus out to press any fiddly little menus.
Congrats ! Very GOOD Guide for new starters !
Hi chimpsinties,
I am reading since three days all the Trinity section here at the forum, each days three hours at least. I could say, this guide is quite actual, complete enough, and pointed very well, for one to start flashing an HTC P3600.
As myself.
Well, I am not a total newbie, I have flashed some months ago another device- FSCT830. But concerning Trinity- I have had no idea about until read here.
The device data up to the moment are:
ROM Version: 1.23.405.2
ROM date: 03/11/07
Radio Version: 1.38.00.11
Protocol Version: 32.71.7020.12H
ExtROM Version: 1.23.405.103
I assume the device is HTC P3600, but not HTC P3600i. Right ?
And before start asking details: is there any difference in your guide for G3 and G4 devices? How to determine what is it?
So I would to ask you some questions regarding the procedure and the availability of all original applications and devices in the new ROMs.
Please find below right inbetween your sentences, but IN CAPITAL LETTERS.
I am eager to test a new ROM !
Thank you in advance for reply.

Right, we're gonna do the following:
1. Unlock the phone so you can use any SIM and any ROM even though it's locked to orange.
2. Upgrade the HARD SPL to OliPro 1.20
3. Upgrade the Radio version to 1.56.70.11
4. Upgrade the ROM to WinMo 6.5
5. Install a couple of little extras
First off make sure you have the latest ActiveSync 4.5 installed.
1. OK, first lets unlock it:
SO, I HAVE THE DEVICE IN FRONT OF ME AND IT HAS BEEN NEVER LOCKED. I CAN USE ANY SIM CARD WITH. DOES THIS MEANS I CAN MISS THIS POINT ?
Go to..........................
There we go, now you have an unlocked phone. But the old radio has probably made it so your satnav won't work.
IF I STAY WITH THE CURRENT RADIO ROM- SHOULD I FLASH SUCCESSFULLY THE DEVICE WITH A WM6.1 ROM? (e.g. Tomme45i or other reccomended)
2. Next let's get a new Hard SLP on there so you can flash other ROMs and Radios. ..............................................
This is basically just another bit of software that will replace the SPL on your phone so you can flash Radio's and ROMs at your leisure.
I PLAN TO MAKE AN SSPL FROM HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293632&page=7 . IN THIS CASE I SHOULD MISS THE HARD SPL, RIGHT? ESPECIALLY WITH TEH DEVICE'S ACTUAL FW. CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG.
IN CASE I CONSIDER TO UPGRADE THE RADIO ROM, BUT I HAVE MISSED POINT NO.1 HOW SHOULD I GUESS WHICH ARE THE BUTTONS TO CLICK IN ROMUpdeteUtility.exe ? IS THERE ANY GUIDE ABOUT, BUT IN ENGLISH?
...................................................................................Connect your phone again and run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe from the 1.56 radio folder.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Ok now this is the bit where the choice is entirly up to you and you really do have to do what everyone says and experiment. ----------------------- I personally wanted a fast and stable operating system with has lots of free RAM and not too much rubbish that will slow the phone down. Remember our beloved Trinity's are getting a bit long in the tooth these days and even the most modern handsets (eg Touch HD) have trouble with WinMo 6.5 in some of it's forms. I AGREE TOTALLY WITH YOU HERE. I PREFER WM6.1 AS IT IS MORE ADAPTED TO THE HARDWARE OF P3600. BTW, ISN'T TOMME45i'S ROM FOR THE NEXT MODEL (3600i) ONLY? MY DEVICE HAS 128MB RAM, SO I ASSUME IS THE MODEL WITHOUT "i" .
Download Tomme45i's brilliant 6.5 ROM from here --------------------------.
AS PER THE METHOD OF FLASHING: YOU RECCOMEND THE ACTIVESYNC ONE.
BUT I HAVE READ A LOT OF COMPLAINTS SAYING THE DEVICE LOOSE THE CONNECTIONS WITH THE PC DURING IT. THEREFORE I AM THINKING OVER THE SDCARD METHOD OF FLASHING. WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT IT?
5. Just a couple of pointers about the ROM.
I also hate IE6 on these tiny screens. For a much better browsing experience I recommend Opera from http://www.opera.com/mobile/ You can scroll around the page and double click to zoom in. The tool bars also disappear when your browsing to give you more screen to play with. It works for me, you may not like it.
ISN'T OPERA CONSUMES MORE RAM THAN IE6 ?
AND LAST QUESTION: WITH ALL THE ROMS YOU HAVE TESTED, CAN YOU SAY WHICH OF THE ORIGINAL APPS AND FUNCTIONS ON THE DEVICE ARE NOT WORKING DEFINITELY WITH MOST OF THEM? E.G. WHAT WE HAVE TO SACRIFICE MAKING A NEW ROM FLASH?

Wow, that's a big post. I'll try and answer it all as best I can.
To start with, it's very important to know if you have a P3600 or P3600i. The P3600 has 64MB RAM and 128MB Flash, the P3600i has 128MB RAM and 256MB Flash. The upgrade ROMS are designed to work specifically with each version of the phone.
Tomme45i's ROM I link to in the tutorial is definitely for the P3600 (SPV M700) because I had it on my handset for weeks and it worked perfectly.
I don't know what a G3 or G4 device is? Sorry
Your radio version looks very old. I would get that upgraded to the 1.56.70.11
Regarding unlocking. It is probably worth doing the 1st step anyway. Even though you're phone might be SIM unlocked to use any provider, it might still be CID locked, which means it can only use the stock ROM that came with the device. You might need to CID unlock it to allow you to change your ROM.
That way, if you do the first step, you will get used to the ROM Update Utility screens and it won't matter that they are in Chinese for the 3rd step.
I would recommend OliPro's v1.20 of HardSPL. It is virtually impossible to brick you're phone using this and you will really struggle to get the 1.56.70.11 Radio on there if you use anything else. It's the only one I found that would allow me to upgrade the Radio.
As mentioned above, I've tried lots of combinations of software and the steps in the guide were the best way to get it all to work perfectly for me.
Windows Mobile 6.5 is much better for finger friendly use. Windows 6.1 still uses a lot of the old menu styles which you usually need a stylus for. I hate Windows Mobile 6.1 now and would always look for a 6.5 ROM. When I say that these devices are not made for 6.5, I only refer to all the extra really fancy bits of the software like TouchFlo3D, CHome etc etc
Some of the 6.5 ROMs are very fast and very clean (no extra fancy bits) especially Tomme45i's. I would strongly recommend you go for a 6.5 ROM and not a 6.1. Even the 6.5 by Nashorn I recommend in a later post is very fast and looks great with the Manila2D. I use it now instead of the more plain Tomme45i ROM. You also get the gestures support so you can sweep your finger across the screen to move menus (like the iPhone) which is very cool.
Regarding the technique used to flash the ROM, I can't comment. I've never used the SD card technique. I have flashed my phone over 20 times using the USB cable and never had a problem. What could be easier than plugging it in to the PC and double clicking a program.
I like the way with Opera you can scroll around a bigger page by dragging you finger and zoom by double clicking, however I found that Opera does not support online streaming video. I now use IE8 which is included in the Nashorn ROM. It's very nice. You can even choose to browse as a desktop device (so you get all the pages rendered normally) or a mobile device ( so you get the reduced size pages) which is a very nice feature. As you experiment with the software, you find what you like and what you don't like. It's all personal choice, what is good for me won't be good for everyone. It's just a guide after all
Of all the ROMs I've tested I've never found any of the basic things that come with Windows Mobile missing. They all usually have Office, Windows messenger, Media player etc etc. I've never found myself having to sacrifice anything to run a new ROM, you usually just find extra things you didn't know you needed
I would say, a finger keyboard is very important, the combination of a 6.5 ROM and finger keyboard means you never have to get your stylus out any more. Both the ROM's I recommend come with a Finger Keyboard included.
It's just a case of finding Cabs for the things you want extra, S2U2, GAlarm, TomTom etc.
I hope I've been able to answer all your questions. Most of what you're asking is just a question of what you like. This is why they always say, 'Just try things until you find what you like'. I wrote this guide so that people who didn't really know what they were doing could get a feel for it and then experiment on their own.
Best of luck, and don't forget to donate to a chef if you like his cooking. That way they will continue to cook for us on this old hardware.
Nice thread - very informative. When I think of the fun and games I had when I first found XDA Developers and downloaded what I needed to unlock my Orange SPV M700 (had several screens open and several downloads on the go)
I have the Narshorn WM6.5 build with Manilla 2D and it has given my phone a whole new lease of life (I was getting bored of WM6 and was looking to buy a new WM6.5 device)
Stuck in Tri-Color screen
Hi,
Thanks for composing all the steps here in an easy to follow manner.
My phone is in super CID mode.
I'm running Vista ultimate.
Whenever I try any of the steps you've specified, they phone goes to the boot loader and remains in tri-color mode. The connection with vista mobile device center is cut off, but the phone itself is not stuck. If you disconnect the USB it says "serial" and if you connect it, it goes back to "usb".
Nothing more happens.
I tried SD flashing as well (renamed the file as specified), but it doesn't do anything. I can start the boot loader, but it doesn't do anything.
I've searched the forums for the error 260, but found nothing useful for flashing with vista.
I also tried unchecking the "allow USB connections" in the mobile device center, but then the device just doesn't connect.
What step am I missing?
Thanks.
Hmmmm
Unfortunately I don't use Vista so I haven't researched any problems associated with it. I know people suggest downgrading the USB drivers or if possible using an XP machine to do the flashing. There is no reason why the SD card technique shouldn't work although I haven't tried it myself.
It might be worth posting on the main board with your problems. I wrote this guide with nothing more than my own experiences in mind and unfortunately haven't had a vast amount of experience at this myself. Maybe I was just lucky to have got it right first time.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help and I hope you get it sorted soon. It's well worth persisting because getting WM6.5 on the old Trinity will transform it and give your years (or at least months) more life out of it. Unitl you get bored and want more power to play with all the cool new features like Touchflo 3D etc
Thanks
Thanks anyway. I'll start my quest for an XP machine.
Great ! It works !

I decided to follow exactly all your advices. And now I have a pretty good WM6.5 on this HTC 3600.
I am missing now the Video call and the (other than English) finger keyboard.
I think you have mentioned as finger keyboard, the one that appears when you are trying the write somewhere in the programs. You have not had in mind a special program, right ?
A per video cal- I have followed the developer's advice at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=545758&page=3 (post 21), but when I press the green key, still no 'video call' button. Am I missing something ?
I can also report the following navi progs are working just with clicking on the respective .exe on the memory card available with the old, original WM5.0:
Garmin XT5.020, TT7.915, MN7.4.3; iGo8.32, Navitel 3.2.6.

The FingerKeyboard is actually cooked into the ROM, but is missing the extra languages to save on space. You need to add the ones you want separately.
As I said in the first post:

Don't you have to enable the video calling in advanced options? or maybe download a small fix .cab file that will enable it? I can't remember right now. I've only ever used video calling once and that was just to see what it was like.
I'm glad yo got it to work anyway
Now you can try other ROMs and see which one you like most. I'm still loving nashorns rom with Manila2D but I think he's been having problems with it recently.
It can be tempting to stick with one ROM just because you have got it working. Soon you'll be so good at reflashing it'll only take you about an hour to do it and get all your programs and settings back exactly how they were.
How?

No, on an XP netbook (LenovoS10e).
there were several reports in the thread Vista has to be updated with some drivers before being capable to do the flash on Trinity.
I want to correct myself in a point:
MN7.43 starts, but crashes under WM6.5 I am still trying to find a workaround about that.
I've made all the changes to my Orange Spv M700 according to Your great guide!
It looks great!
Can anyone tell me which IGO8 runs on this ROM?
How can I change the default ringtone please? It gives me three choices without being able to browse to other ringtones....
I've got about 600 contacts I don't want to change them one by one....
Thank You!
