WM6 upgrade concerns - Palm Treo 750 ROM Development

I just got a new Treo 750 for my wife for Xmas and I'm going through the WM6 upgrade. I'm using AT&T version 2.25 but I started the update off the self-starting install updater from Palm. I'm 31mins into the upgrade and so far the status on the boot-loader is 0% and the updater on my host computer still indicates that it's "executing update." Something has to be wrong, what are my options at this point?

Is there an miniSD card in the slot?

Yes...
Can I remove it during the update?

Ok, I removed it but no change
Progress bar on the phone is still 0% with 51 mins into this. If I disconnect and cycle it am I'm I dead in the water?

You should be OK. I think when I left my card in, I took it out, reset the phone and all was cool.
Worst comes to worst, just do the update from the SD card method.

That's what I'm going to have to do
I canceled after an hour and used the recovery tool to re-set the factory image. I've tried since with Activesync problems so the card method seems to hold the most promise.

Treo 750 WM6 Technical Discussion

I'll start. Anybody know of another cab file to get rid of the logo with bluetooth? hidelogo.cab no longer works. When I install it and activate it, I get an endless loop of soft resets.
Another thing that's going on is everytime I soft reset, it shows that I have a voicemail, and it only goes away when I check it, even though I have no messages.
I broke it! I hard reset my phone. Then I formatted the memory card in FAT32 to make sure it was good. I then copied the file to memory card. Used the left bottom button and reset spot to reboot device. After reboot, able to press END/Pwr to start update. It goes all the way through the update to only a hair left on the end. At which point I get a fail message.
I have Cingular branded Treo that I use with my T-Mobile sim card. Battery fully charged. Tried this 3 times. If I reset, setup auto starts. If I take mem card out and reboot, I get the colored screen, with 'Serial' at the bottom.
This is what my screen shows:
00018002
CHEEIMG.nbh - FAIL
SPLASH1 - OK
bOOTLOADER - OK
GSM - OK
MICROP - OK
EXTROM - OK
OS -
UPDATE TERMINATE
UPDATE FAIL
Any ideas ?

Let's try a few things. First, reformat your mem card (yes, again) and make absolutely sure it's formatted fat32. Next, copy the CHEEIMG.nbh file over to your card. Now compare the size of the file on the card with the original copy your downloaded and make sure they are the exact same size.
Next, take your SIM card out of your phone. Then put in the memory card, and go through the process again.
Let us know how things progress.
OMG! We now get the "E" icon for EDGE!
Carrier now says "AT&T instead of ATT
I like the new card detect/remove sounds.
a couple of things I noticed so far. the web kind opf stalls out after a while of surfing. I have to disconect then reconect for it to work again. I also noticed that if you install the htc home screen you lose the send button, meaning it won't work anymore you also lose the keypad. it also doesn't come with a streaming app so no rtsp (3gp) streaming. I tried installing the hermes version but only got to 99% then pushes me back to pie
Settings -->System-->About-->Phone:
Software Version - doesn't get updated properly with this ROM.
It stays as it was prior the upgrade.
I noticed that you can now charge the battery via USB
annoying bugs
1) installing and removing programs take more than twice as much time, i.e. Windows Live. when removing it the phone seems to hang for minutes.
2) I've set a password to protect the phone after 10 minutes idle. now after resetting the device it shows an unusual behavior:
first it asks to enter the lock password, after that it should ask me to input the pin for the sim-card. the "enter pin" screen shows up for only a second and goes away straight to the "today" screen, leaving the phone useless.
to enter the pin I have to switch off the phone and turn it on again.
3) starting up after reset seems to take one minute more than before. with the bug in (2) it's about two minutes more...
Looking at the rom after experimenting wit it a bit I found the Htc touch homescreen to alter the devices send hardware key. It somehow alters the reg for the default dial key. Loading the the hermes or kaiser's six button com manager also has no response however it disables the default Dial pad which I regained via hard reset. This rom will definitely take sometime to cook and perfect. I hope they soon release the offical update in which may have more support. However if any this would be the idea rom to start experimenting with in the kitchen

Exactly :-( But now I downgraded back to original Palm WM5 ROM and last two numbers are again changed! So with WM5 ver. 1.14 I had last two numbers of IMEI ...12 with WM5 ver. 1.16 are ...14 and with WM6 ver. 1.47 are ...20 - interesting...

I don't think it changes the IMEI, it just adds two digits to it depending on the firmware!
the IMEI on the sticker behind the battery has 15 digits, in the about box of Windows Mobile it has 17 digits...

I had the same issue. Make sure that the ROM you downloaded is the full 83 megs. A couple of places only downloaded 26 megs and then stopped, but said that the download was complete. When I tried to update, it was not the full rom and failed. The fix was to load the complete ROM onto my miniSD card and then performing the update again. It installed with no problem. Hope this helps.
Here's another rapidshare mirror of this ROM in case anybody needs it. It's the full 86 Megs, uploaded by me.

sim card removal

Hey quick question. I've looked in all the threads but can't quite seem to find the answer. Just wondering if when I go to update to the official htc wm6.1 if I can just remove my sim card during the update process without having to back all my crap up. I just can't find out if the sim card needs to be in the phone during the process or not. thanks for the help.
Your SIM card stays in the phone for the update.
Remove your Micro card prior to the update process and install your new ROM. I think the install directions say to remove the Micro card prior to the install.
Boot Loader
Alright. Im slowly getting there. Just succesfully loaded the wm 6.1 update to my device. But theres a problem. My computer says it's 100% done and the click to finish button comes up, thats not the problem. the problem is after my phone hits 100% it goes back to the bootloader screen. the new SPL is displayed as SPL-3.02.0000 and than it says CPLD-8 and im getting a reaction from the usb, but it wont load the os? ive tried to reinstall from the ruu like 4 times now and nothing.

Can't flash Kaiser HardSPL in any way???

Iv'e tryed to flash HardSPL to Kaiser... Downloaded various unlockers/flashers, even SD card solution... When trying to flash over usb with some Kaiser-HardSPL.exe - after entering tricolor mode and when progressbar appears it always stuck on 0%, and nothing happens... Update utility shows error (Rom update utility encountered communication error or smth.) and sugests me to do recovery. Tryed everything - SoftSpl1.56, Softspl1.93, SSpl-kais...
Other method i've tryed - SD card
Iv'e followed instructions, formatted card, copied those two files (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420683) to sd card, but after resetting Kaiser it only shows "Loading..." and hangs... no restart, nothing... just "loading..." on screen...
Bootloader menu shows following versions:
KAIS130
SPL-3.29.0000
CPLD-8
somehow... after trying another 1000 -th time... it just flashed...
Have exactly the same problem, tried all other solutions! any idea on what the last method was that worked?
When flashing via USB it will hang at 0% (and fail w/ 260 error on PC side) if the SD card is left in. I've made that mistake more than once.
Remember to remove SIM, too.
I don't have sd card and I've got the same problem...
Any ideas?
I have the same problem. I want to upgrade Hard SPL 3.24 to newer version. I always get 262 error. Also tried all possible ways (MicroSD uses FAT32, but I didn't formatted It, because I don't have SD adapter).
Sometimes It's shown that flashing complete, but HardSPL version still is the same.

Are you using sspl to upgrade? sim and sd out? usb cable or sd flash? Do you already have a hspl and are just upgrading?
If you're on an original spl you must use sspl to do it.
If you're upgrading then you can use the kaisdiag file by cmonex and an sd.
aaaaahhhhh

 My Blackstone almost bricked:o

I was flashing my Blackstone before few minutes with stock 1.57 wwe ROM.
I normally have the habbit of removing the sim and memory card while flashing. so, i'll keep the back cover off while flashing.
When the progress was around 40%, i got a call in my another standby mobile and in hurry i pulled the usb cable .My blackstone got pulled down together with the usb cable and battery came out(As there is no back cover).
I got shocked and looked at the screen as the usb cable was not removed from my device.
To my surprise, the progress bar didn't stop and ROM update was continuing without the battery.
I came to full conciousness after some more 105 progress and inserted the battery while it was updating.
When the flash was complete, the device started as usual without any problem
So, it seems that the device is powered from usb during flashing
I think this happens if you flash from the SD card too.

no. I think you mis understood.
When flashing with SD card, you won't be connected with PC.
In my case, the battery came out of the device while flashing.

Yes becouse when i flashed trough SD card and my HD was in usb becouse before flash i always use USPL. When i wanted to turn off the phone after flashing i took out the battery but i had to take out the cable too to turn off
I think you're ok while you still got a working bootloader. I once flashed a rom that was incomplete...the dowload got canceled for some reason which I hadnt noticed. However winrar extracted without reporting any errors and it also flashed without problems. When my phone wouldnt boot beyond the HTC screen I started checking things. The .nbh file was way too small
Anyway I flashed it again and it was working again...
should be alright since you have hspl 1.56 on your phone
would be screwed if it was normal spl/uspl and it was in middle of flashing the spl part of the rom upgrade when power was lost!
Anytime your phone is connected to an external power source it does not require the battery to power it... this is quite normal You can take the battery out anytime it is plugged in.

Charge/sync problem

I have read about 10 pages of charging and syncing problems but they weren't like mine. I flashed hardspl 3.34 and then it all went bad. When it is turned on it wont charge from wall/car/usb. When I put it into bootloader, it seems like my computer recognizes it (it asks me if I want to safely remove hardware) but windows mobile device center doesn't say it's connected, nor does it show up in computer. I did a hard reset and all that. It still has original 6.1 rom. Should I flash another spl? Or another rom? Any suggestions? I really hope I didn't f up my tilt. I finally got it after I bricked my wizard a year ago.

Well, if you are in bootloader and you got the USB sign on it you are ok. Try to flash another rom or reflash your stock rom.
Yes bootloader seems to work and says usb. I think what I did was flashed hardspl 3.29 following the directions in the "flashing your first kaiser rom" thread. But when I flashed 3.34, I flashed it using usb and not an sd card like it said. I just want to go back to original spl and rom.

What about these steps?

lol, I know that's exactly what I did. I was just saying, that I think that has something to do with it not charging and syncing. I'm not sure though, because I'm not a pro at flashing and all that. I can rebuild an engine, but I can't flash a stupid rom on a phone . Whatever I have to do to fix it, will have to work the next time because I only have about 60% battery left.

You can upgrade SPL via SD but you will need a WM donor phone (spare) or a card reader to format the sd card. Try that and let us know if that worked
