So we just got the new WM6 - Palm Treo 750 ROM Development

When Microsoft is about to release 6.1. How long do you think it will be before we get that one?

They reckon Q1 2008 but I'd suggest vendors like Telstra Australia will stick it in a drawer for months like they did with WM6. Mind you this might not be a whole rom upgrade and might just be a patch with any luck.

PPC 2005 for the Blue Angle or Alpine only ?

As some of you are aware a new HTC phone will be coming out Q1-Q2 called Alpine (XDA II i , ? iMatePDA ?, Etc as usual). On the plus side it will have a faster processor (500Mhz) and higher resolution camera (1.3MegaPixlels) but on the negative side the design is based on the older Himalaya and so there’s no sliding thumboard.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=82550#82550
My main issue is that the upcoming Alpine will be designed to support and probably ship with PPC'005 and that is something worth considering when stacking it up against the BlueAngle.
If PPC005 will be available as an upgrade on the Blue Angle and it runs just as well as on the Alpine -- then I like the keyboard and layout on the Angle. But what if PPC'005 borrows from the Wintel playbook of old and requires more Mhz or Rom or other hardware novelty and that is the real reason HCT are releasing the Alpine so hot on the heels of what is otherwise a successful product just now maturing to the point where most of the bugs are fixed.
I still have the first model these guys made and remember what a joke the MS PPC was -- not even supporting SMS sender recognition etc .. and how long it took to get 2003 working and the associated hardship involved. As a result of that I have complete and utter faith that the master cooks in this forum like Lump will come up with a fix to get '005 on the Angle -- but if it is a big problem, then perhaps I should just make the best out of having a circa 1999 spec MegaPixel camera in my pocket all the time.
Anyone have any ideas about PPC'005 compatibility with the Blue Angle ?? Unfortunately I cant find a lot of information on the subject but theres a nice PPC’005 review in Spanish: http://www.portalppc.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1627

2005 update for Blue Angel???
Hi dlexik,
I think that HTC would be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't allow a 2005 upgrade to thier units. For all we know it might not be up to them but the carriers who load them and brand them. Here'e an example. I have been dealing with the after effects from Toshiba's lack of customer support when they were never going to upgrade the E740 units and I went bought out 250 qty of thier E750 units from a liquidator. After going through them and trying to find the 2003 upgrade for all of them when they only offered it for 4 months and then pulled it long before I found out about it. It took 25 phone calls in 3 countries for me to make them realize that if they didn't want all of the units getting shipped back them which were still under warranty! Finally, one of the upper brass sent me a copy of the upgrade CD based on the fact I had a mass quanity of thier product.
BUT!! It sould not be that way. Before Microsoft releases the new update,
right now all of these carriers are deciding: 1.) Whether to make a good patch to correct all the issues. 2.) Wait for the MS update software and write thier fixes into it. 3.) Do nothing and concentrate on making people buy the next better model that might have as much issues as we are facing now. I urge everyone to keep pushing these carriers and HTC for not coming through on a product that so many people have paid much so money for that deserves the utmost attention!
I am going to make my donation to the forum and I am going to start harping some carriers and probably HTC.
Cheers Everyone!
I think that from past record, it is extremely unlikely that the carriers will release 2005 for older products very soon after it is released.
Why would they want to pay MS to license a new OS when they've already got our money?
We'll no doubt have to wait until someone inevitably does a backwards port to our 'old' units.

According to info released from O2 the Xda IIi will ship with 2003SE, although must be a newer version than blue angel as its supposed to have WMP10.

WM6 on Nov. 6 - says treonauts.com

I hate the guessing game as much as anyone, and I think the people who play it are idiots and only serve to piss off the folks releasing the update.
That being said, Treonauts.com is now reporting a likely date of Nov. 6. Yes, 2007.
Most peopl that already have the Unbranded latest version of WM6 probably wont find anything different from the carrier official version other than the logo
Wouldn't surprise me. I was told by someone within Palm Australia that they're hoping to have the Telstra version out by the end of next week. Perhaps the two ROMs have been developed in parallel, since they're both similar types of network (850mhz UMTS).
talking with palm tech support.... this info is horse ****. the palm tech guy said cingular has approved it and it is back at palm for final testing and release
I was talking with my African Grey Parrot about this, and he confirmed the 6th of November. I asked him "When do you think the WM6 release is going to be for the ATT Treo 750, because I heard it was November 6th?". He looked me straight in the eye and said "November 6th". I said "Really, November 6th ?" and he said "Really November 6th."
This is really great news. Now if only he would stop smoking all my cigarettes.
the tech support guy said after christmas it should be ready. Cingular is saying the same thing.

I got sick of waiting for the Telstra ROM and upgraded last week to the generic ROM. It works perfectly on the NextG network. No problems to report yet!
Yep, I've been running the generic ROM on Telstra as well for a week or two now. I've found it to be faultless too

Why do people have their panties in such a wad over the ATT "official" release??? You have several WM6 "official" releases from Palm to choose from. What silver bullet do you expect to receive from the ATT version???
Please, enlighten me...
My local ATT store doesnt have the Treo 750 anymore, they said they stoped sending them for some reason. So maybe there getting wm6 and getting sent out, but who knows just an opinion.
the big deal is that what is added,, they added push to talk, cellular video, HSPDA, AT&T music, upgraded radio firmware, and countless other upgrades

My friend, you are misinformed or lacking in understanding of what is a service and what is an enhancement/added functionality from AT&T. The only "enhancement" you offer in your list is the radio firmware - which is questionable as an enhancement over what has already been offered elsewhere.
I wish you luck in keeping the dream alive...it is Nov 6

Thats the funniest thing I have read all day
im a irm believer in if you have nothing nice to say it is better not to say anything
Its funny how many people want the AT&T Rom. I on the other hand will do all to get a Unbranded ROM.
Even when I had Motorola phones I would always flash the factory Monster Pack on it or get a cooked one.
Your post made a miserable day so much better. Thanks for that!

Guys, will I need to CID unlock the 750v to try the generic rom?
I currently have the UK Vodafone WM6 Rom and wanted to test a non branded rom, even though the vodafone doesnt have any branding!
I tried the generic one but it displayed an error saying something like wrong version.
Thanks in advance.

Great, now even my parrot is lying to me! Can't trust anyone these days.

I agree 100%, nothing productive comes out of stating something just for the sake of stating it. Not trying to drag this out, but again you misunderstand. I was not "being mean" to you my friend, but pointing out that you may be misinformed or misunderstand the technology. The productive message being to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and experience this site offers - I know I have.
I'm done with this one - Cheers
well you see i know people whowork for palm, and people whowork for cingular and this what they are telling me is being incorperated. honestly if younot a cingular user and are from another country these features will not be of much to you but i am and i am looking forward to them. if you have played with a Cingular Tilt youwill find the treo 750 will have the same capabilities as it as well as the added push to talk and HSPDA.. I talk to my buds at palm everyday..

Coming Soon to O2

So there been a few threads on the Kaiser on O2. It seems to becoming in December:
http://shop.o2.co.uk/ComingSoon
me like the silveryness
weird though i ran the upgrade line and they are still convinced its avilable from today
as far as i know, the retentions department tend to release phones to upgrade customers earlier than the official release date, if they have the phone in stock already.
but right now, stocks not in yet...
i am due a upgrade and didnt think this was coming to 02. It meant to arrive today, can i just not except the phone and reorder the stellar? any ideas when i could get one?
Anybody else notice that O2 claim the Stellar includes an FM Radio?
I called them up today and they said it was being released tomorrow :S
So...
Is it the Stella or Stellar?
Also, why silver? The black Exec was the coolest of all the Universal's that I saw.
The o2 gossip mill is on the roll again telling every one something different, as i rang up again after being promised it would be out this afternoon to now be told its been put back to the 26th . Im sure these guys are getting thier info off of the same websites we are looking at and posting on .
One guy basically told me they look at gsmarena to find out what available on there own network. Im guessing that tehre has been one too many leaks and all data is on a release day basis only. If only they actually looked at the whole thing and realised that giving accurate info will help reatain customers hell it may even bring people in if they thought there provider was being even a bit open with them.
right off to shout at a user

Help deciding please!!

Well ever since i got my HTC wizard i have decided that HTC will more than likely be the only brand i ever buy again! So now i am at the point that i would like to upgrade from the wizard. Should i go ahead a get a Tilt (indecisive due to the opengl and graphics drivers issue) and hope they release drivers for it? Or should i just wait for their next model? Speaking of, does anyone know if the htc touch cruise is going to be an AT&T phone? Thanks ahead of time!

I too have the Wizard and find it very good (I don't necessarily need 3+G and GPS). Personally, I'm waiting for the Omni or something substantially better (VGA, better camera, faster CPU etc) than the Kaiser. They're around the corner (Q1 2008).

Is the Omni confirmed? If it is I might wait a little too.
The Omni will come out (looks sweet too) but there's no way ATT will release it. ATT will also not release the HTC Touch Cruise. If you want to wait for the next model from ATT, your're going have to wait about another year. If you're waiting for the next model through HTC (you wont get the 2 year contract price) you'll be waiting for a month or so (like the first post said, it's the Omni).
Omni will actually be that one they advertised, which was around 130x80 mm I think? If it is I will just buy something else instead, that's WAY too big for a phone.

Support for Over the air upgrandes???

Hi all, as far as you know will this unit support the "over the air" software upgrade that other and less expensive devices already are said to support?
Thanks
Ps. I have an hd2 running windows mobile and I'm getting tired to soft reset the unit almost once a day. I saw android is really stable compared to win mobile 6.5 so I'd like to switch. I must confess, the only thing that prevents me from doing so is the lack of an offline gps navigator like tomtom, the best one.
No one really knows if there will be OTA updates.
Why dont you try flashing android on your HD2? Look in the HD2 section here on XDA.
Thanks, but I can't afford to brick my pda...
Yes there is an OTA menu
Thanks it would be a pity not having this possibility in such a device! But I'm doing a consideration: is it worth it to spend all this money when technology and most of all Android's development is bringing innovation at such a pace? I mean, one can buy a cheaper X3, Huawei. It should work without flaws and would mount the same os...what do you think?
Buying cutting edge stuff is always going to cost lots.
The differences between handsets aren't really that great. If you're worried about money, wait until this handset and others are released and buy one of the current handsets which will probably be reduced.

That was close to my philosophy, I mean when I bought my first pda in 1999 I wanted it top notch in order to last and I kept it until 2004 when I bought another pda top of the line. It lasted until last September when came the HD2. It is a beautiful machine but all of a sudden it seems to be old compared to all those android that are coming out with a continuous flow and I cannot stand anymore all those necessary soft resets and strange behaviours....
So probably it's time to spend the less possible and chose pda like to new X3 huawei, with all inside, ota and gingerbread. Mind changes and this is the case...
Android's too fast moving to really have anything be future proof. Check out the G1/Dream, released October 2008, Nexus S, December 2010.
Big difference. Admittedly the difference between the Nexus One and Nexus S isn't that great but it seems that they're 2nd Gen devices while this Dual Core stuff might be what you could call the third Gen.
Wether they are or not it'll be unlikely that anything you purchase today running Android will look anything but prehistoric in five years time.
As for your HD2 being a PDA, what do you need? Any phone will do what a PDA did ten years ago.
Well I call pda all those devices cause I saw them being introduced in the market more than ten years ago. I use the hd2 for push email, contact sync ota, calendar ota, sat navigation, documents in excel and word, sms sending via web with jacksms, web surfing and LOTS of other thing, among them, safe storage of sensitive data.
I still call them pda cause that's what they have been created for. Now they can communicate and even call, or allow you a call...but the core is that.
Nice chat.
Have a good evening, must go to bed now.
Yes. i used OTA for upgrading, yesterday.
There's also an LG updater Application which will check and install updates. So I guess both bases are covered.
//Dave
Providing it works.
FOTA updates are not working for the T-Mobile branded unit. Comes back with validation error.
