I have been recently messing about flashing various WM6 ROM's to see which one I might settle on, however I have come across one issue which annoys me so much that I would choose not to go down the WM6 route.
On the phone dialler I now have a bar going across the screen which displays two lines of my contacts. I don't want this. I want the usual phone layout that I have used for the past dozen ROM upgrades.
Is there a way to remove this? I have tried all the settings on the phone but to no avail. Will it dissapear if I re-skin the phone with something from Eten?
What surprises me is that I have not seen anyone else mentioning it on any of the WM6 threads - Does everyone like this new layout?
Vista Dialer
I also found this annoying. I downloaded the following
Jimm98y_vista_dialer.zip
in the development/hacking section. I think it is much better than the old WM5
dialer skin. You can see the screen shots there.
You will probably also need to edit smartskey.ini to allow the dpad to function in the Phone app. With the Underground ROM that was a pain if I remember correctly as it is a system and RO file. I ended up making a cab that created a \Program Files\Smartskeyand copied my smartskey files to that folder. Then stopping smartskey, deleting the shortcut in \Startup and then running Smartskey from the \Program Files folder.
What a PIA! Another reason I went back to the Orwell ROM (after I took the green comm manager with me..)

Thanks Tony. Just done it and it worked a beaut.
I am quite new to ROM flashing, but have been successful and am now able to do it with no problems.
My question is simple:-
Could some someone please define the word TILT in the following sentance.
"Tilt owners, install additional cabs"
I though that all Keizer's were Tilt devices, or am I wrong? How do I know if I am a Tilt owner?
Sorry if it's a stupid question.

Yup its a stupid question alright. Naw just playing.
The Tilt is A "Kaiser" Per se but a Kaiser is not a Tilt. you know like a rectangle is a square but a square is not a rectangle.
Functionally they are the same however, the keyboard appears different, hence the need for the Keyboard Fix cab and there is no Video call Camera in the front. Oh and there is the unbearable need to have AT&T as a carrier.
And it would appear... slower roms too...

I really don't have a problem, once the bloatware is removed that is. At least its very easy to remove AT&T bloatware completely on a Tilt. No need to flash to get rid of it.

Its really easy to remove the bloatware on an AT&T Tilt. Takes about 5 minutes total. The AT&T internet settings and such will stay. It will remain fully functional. If you want stuff back like Cingular Video or Media mall you will have to reinstall those separately.
First of all you must realize when you are done the phone will be just like it came out of the box, minus the bloatware. You will have to reinstall any applications installed to the device, and redo all previously applied hacks. Backup anything you don't want lost that is in storage memory, and move it to your storage card. Anything on your storage card is safe. Once everything you don't want lost is safely backed up or moved you can proceed.
Click Start --> Settings --> System tab --> Clear Storage
Enter "1234" and click YES.
Device will reboot.
When it comes back up have your stylus ready. It will ask you to align the screen (Tap the crosshairs), set the time zone & clock, etc.
When done you will see a green screen that says something like "You have now setup your device, tap the screen to begin using Windows Mobile..."
As soon as you tap and the today screen opens you will see a text box popup saying "Software install will begin in 3 seconds" Quickly soft reset the phone before this install begins. Do this by inserting the Stylus in the reset hole in the bottom of the device and press before the install begins.
Device will reboot.
When it comes back up you will be free of AT&T Bloatware.
You may now redo all of your hacks and reinstall your software. You will notice a lot more available storage memory and RAM available.
Enjoy!

Hey Jay thanks for the advice on getting rid of att's softwares. I notice on your icon that you have TOM TOM running as your GPS program. I have TOMTOM also however my is cracked and the version is 6.010. When I first installed it, searching for satellite was fairly fast. Now, it takes forever. Any idea on what happened? Thanks

Sounds like your quick GPS files need updating. I have mine set to auto download when necessary. Go to Start--> Programs --> Quick GPS. The icon looks like a satellite dish. Click Download. When your download is complete click Menu--> Options. Make sure "Autodownload when data expires" is checked.

No, I don't have a list of everything the bloatware install ads, hides, or otherwise changes. I know Internet connection sharing is hidden and replaced with the AT&T dialer application. Then there's all the 30 second trial versions of the games that are gone as well.
After you remove the bloatware all the cabs for the bloatware are in the windows directory. If there's anything missing like Cingular Video, or anything else like that, that you can't live without just run the appropriate *.cab file and install it. I prefer this way as you can selectively install just what you want, and leave out the rest.

LOL, I've had mine since November and I haven't flashed yet. I haven't found a need to so far. I am heavily tweaked and modded though... I've been thinking about flashing, but I generally don't flash a device until my warranty expires, but that's just me. I think the only exception was with my classic model V3. I think I flashed that phone the day I got it to remove the Cingular crap. It was not necessary to flash the Tilt to remove the AT&T crap, so I haven't flashed ... yet.

Yeah, mine still worked. Just the crap is gone. Remember you will have to reinstall everything, and setup your device again, so make sure you have all that stuff ready. Its a good idea to keep all of your cabs in a folder on your storage card so you don't have to look for that stuff when you hard reset.

I downloaded a screen capture utility. Google it. There's lots of them out there as shareware or freeware.

Hi,
I'm using Treo 750v for few months now, but I'm really surprised to found out that it's screen resolution have been changed! What I meant is that the screen didn't show text & pictures lines correctly anymore, for an instance: if I save a file from Word Mobile, the Save & Cancel buttons are way below from the bottom of the screen; making them not visible. And there is no scroll down panel so I can't take a look at them...
This not only affected that but also the whole system & applications! So this must the Windows Mobile 6 screen resolution registry had been changed by something. Unfortunately I never checked this every time I installed a new applications or games, so I wouldn't know which have caused the problem.
I've tried to change the settings in Windows Mobile settings option, but no success to bring it back to original again.
Anyone else have experienced the same problem too?
Is there somekind of registry tweak to correct the screen resolution in Windows Mobile 6?
Thanks in advance, I really hope someone can give an answer since this problem is causing me a real frustration because I had to hard-reset many times of my Treo 750v.
Maybe create a backup and give your Treo a hard reset. Should solve the problem. After this install your apps one by one.
When I've flashed my device I always install a few apps then I soft reset. I repeat this until I've installed all my apps. Works better for me when it comes to speed and stability of the device.
mccune,
I did backup my Treo 750v prior the hard-reset action, but when I restore it back using Spb Backup v1.6.3; the screen resolution stays the same! Seems the whole WinMob 6 registry system has been changed permanently...
I also took the steps you mentioned: soft-reset everytime I installed a new apps or games. And I've found out what has been causing the WinMob 6 screen resolution to changed: LingvoSoft's products!!!
Back then I installed LingvoSoft Talking Dictionary 2008 & Talking Phrasebook 2008, and when I contacted their support team respond is as follow: "We acknowledge the compability and stability issue with Windows Mobile platform, specially the language keyboard, we're working on the issues right now."
So I do hope this could become a good warning for those who wish to install LingvoSoft's products into their Treo 750...
But I haven't found another better ways to get back the original screen resolution, the only way is to hard-reset my Treo 750v again and again.
Thanks!
I didn't read your whole post (just too much ), but sounds like your going to have to bite the bullet and do a hard reset and perform manual install (forgo the backup restore) of your apps
tmknight,
i did that... that's the only thing i can do to bring my treo 750v back to it's original settings.
yer good to go then
start installing your apps one at a time to determine the culprit...
Link is: http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=67&cat=2&dl_id=94
I'm downloading it now... pretty slow download though. I bet I'm not the only one that knows about it
Same EXACT file as posted here over the weekend ftw
Took long enough!! Did you notice that one of the added features was video share calling...
The link takes you to WM6.0
And since Voice Command is in it, no more gray area!!! (Not that I care, I paid for it...)
YEA, I guess this means 3 months of redundant posts regarding winmo 6.1. YEA I can't wait!!!!
as most of you know I am a regional tech for AT&T, and there is no way in hell i would ever install a att rom on my tilt HELL NO!!!!
Never Mind, the second time I opened the link, it took me to the correct wm6.1 ruu.
Still have 30 minutes to go but I'm presuming that if you boot without bloatware that the video calling won't install so someone will have to create a cab... I'm sure xda will do it
Whats Included:
* Windows Mobile 6.1
* HTC Home
* Video Share Calling
* Threaded SMS
* MS Voice Command
* OneNote Mobile
* Remote Desktop Monitor
* Enroll Domain
* Managed Programs
* PTT Button now available
for reassignment under
Start>Settings>Buttons.
I guess that this makes the post about reassigning your PTT button obsolete..
My take on it is that it is the same one that has been floating around for a couple of days.
I just d/l the "official" one and extracted the files and the README.doc still has the paragraph to the "help desk personnel"
ALL the files sizes in the self-extracting zip are the same size also.
anyone else having a problem disabling the bloatware? everytime it soft resets it takes me back to the customization screen... third soft reset so far and I even tried letting customization begin for a second before the soft reset.
To AVOID installing AT&T's bloatware, you must flash your phone obviously, then go through the 1st boot screen where you tap the screen, set your time zone etc, then after you click finish, AS SOON AS windows loads, soft reset BEFORE it says customizing in 3 seconds.

Try this procedure it worked for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2562767#post2562767
So far all seems well,
My wireless router only does WPA-PSK with TKIP and not AES or WPA2 but that works well.
The one issue I have had at other times on the old ROM was that DHCP would pick up an IP but not DNS so I would have to enter in a known good DNS IP addy. I just use the Cox primary name server in Hampton Roads VA but any will work.
"No matter what the question - the answer is DNS" so you can tell I am a network guy and not a "developer, developer, developer" (Steve Balmer) by that answer eh?
Just a bit off topic but i am so thankful and grateful for the developers and all who post here to help us out!!!!
bloatware is disabled (good call) but Sprite Backup is killing my phone. May have bricked it in fact... PIM backup is a lot better even at the expense of loading a few of my own apps back on to it... I went from a black screen to a zebra pattern after the splash screen. May have to revert to the 8525 for a few days while i try to get AT&T to replace it...
If you get a black screen (or a striped screen) after using Sprite just do nothing for about 5 minutes and it will result in a hard reset (not a brick fortunately).
Glad to hear I am not the only one having trouble with sprite backup. My Tilt is stuck on the SPRITE BACKUP screen, RESTORE PROGRESS, Resetting Device. It has been this way for 15 minutes.
Now what?
This, of course, right after I installed the HTC WM 6.1 download.
It seems Microsoft's "New Home Screen Interface" didn't make it into this version... At least I can't find it anywhere.

Hi
I’ve just recently bought a new Kaiser of ebay, it is sim unlocked and is not branded by any network on the phone itself. On the home page, the bottom two buttons are contacts and planet 3. I want to remove planet 3 and replace it with “calendar” like normal Kaisers have. Also on start up, after the smart mobility display and before the “windows mobile” display appears, it show a white background with the green 3.I would like to remove this too if possible. Is there anyway of removing/replacing these with something else? And can someone give me the steps of doing so. Thanks in advance.
Does your kaiser have the front camera? If so, would you want to trade for an AT&T Tilt branded kaiser, that is sim unlocked as well?

Yes it does. However I do not wish to swap. I am happy with it, I just would be happier if someone could please help me remove the planet 3 and network 3 start-up symbol from the phone. It would be much appreciated if someone can point me in the right direction please. Thanks

Hi
Thank you. When I open windows-startup it shows three files none of them are a file called "shortcuts". The three files are btdwake.ink, poutlook.ink, sddaemon.ink?
Sorry to be a nuisance but can u explain a bit more please? Also you wouldn't know how to remove the planet 3 on the home page would you too? Thanks a lot.
The one after animation is \Windows\welcomehead.96.png - remove it (replace it).
Better way is to do a hardreset and the best way is to flash original HTC ship ROM from their site or, if you want to experiment, try Kaiser ROM development section.

Hi
thanks you. i still cannot find a file named "welcomehead.96.png" iv'e looked through the entire "windows" file for it and used the search option. If i do a hardreset will i loose things on my mobile's storage and same if i flash it? would i have to re-unlock my mobile to except any sim or wouldnt it do anything to the sim unlock if i hardreset/flashed it?
When HR-ing or flashing, you usually lost everything on the ROM, storage card (miniSD) is left untouched. For unlocking you should see Kaiser ROM development section, where in stickied thread, is everything explained or linked to explanation. The only exception for deleting data is flashing original ROMs - they shouldn't disappear - shouldn't => but might.
If you can't see the file, just drop there your own . It was probably already flashed via someone before you, maybe you have already HardSPL-ed your device?
3
I tried a hard reset, however it did not remove the 3 symbol or planet 3. Can someone give me a direct link to download the original HTC ship ROM please? the phone is currently running with 6.1 Professional I would like this to remain the same if possible. Thanks

Hi
I have managed to find a program that has fixed the planet 3 problem. it's called soft key manager and it can be downloaded here if anyone else needs it :
http://fantasticbytes.com/products/softkeymanager
it replaces the soft key shortcuts with other things/programs and it's just what i needed .
now it's just the network 3 start up symbol i want to remove. Has anyone else got any ideas on how to remove this on start-up?
