Would i have to unlock my stock MDA to put diff skins and roms on my Mda??

Yes you do. Otherwise it will not update. The skins you don't need to unlock, but the ROM, yep...

Explain HARD SPL vs CID unlock

I want to install WM6 on my trinity and starting from zero:
So far I gathered that I either need to CID unlock or install HARD SPL.
If above is true what are the advantages/disadvantages one over another?
Does it make sense to do a superCID unlock and then install HARD SPL?
Your device has a specific Carrier ID, which only allows you to install official ROMs from that carrier.. CID unlock allows you to install ROMs from any carrier. As far as i knew, CID unlock voids your warranty and *i think* is not reversible (correct me if i'm wrong someone)..
Hard-SPL gives you the same benefits as a CID unlock, allowing you to flash unsigned ROMs to your device. However, it is reversible, and Hard-SPL protects you in case of a bad flash (corrupted image or whatever) allowing your device to remain in bootloader rather than bricking forever.
I recommend hard-spl, but if you've CID unlocked then you should still use hard-spl for the protection it gives..
for flashing instructions you can check out my website (in my signature)
Hi,
Hi have a HTC p3600 CID locked if I HARD SPL the new WM6 roms will I be able to install default HTC WM5 roms ?!
Thank you!
yeah you can
not strictly true:
if you CID unlock, you will be able to flash any official HTC ROMs to the device.
with Hard-SPL, you will also be able to flash custom ROMs since the signature check is patched to always return true.
Thanks for the help - good trinityguide for newbies. I just printed and will be using it.

ah i see.. so CID unlock still doesn't allow you to flash custom roms?

Reflashing Unlocked T-Mobile Wing to use on ATT Network

Hello all. A noob here. I am getting an unlocked Wing and I am planning to reflash it in order to use it on Cingular/ATT Network.
I've looked and couldn't find step-by-step instructions on flashing.
I have the roms that I need downloaded already, but I didn't know if it is as easy as it appears to be. (WM6 WWE v3 +/- TouchFlo)
Do I take the sim card out before reflashing? Do I plug in the device, Turn activesync on, then double-click on the rom?
If someone can reply with the step-by-step process, that'd be great!
Thanks in advance.
You don't need to flash it with new ROM in order to use it on ATT. All it needs is to be SIM unlocked and you should be able POP your ATT SIM in and go. If you want to experiment with custom ROM's your phone would need to be CID unlocked first. I don't know if there is an easy/free CID unlocking tool for Wing, but "search" is a helluva feature
thanks
Yes, so it is SIM unlocked, and I can pop my SIM in and make calls. However..........I do believe T-Mobile locks their browsers and I can't edit the GPRS/Network settings in order for me to use the phone for the internet. That is mainly why I want to reflash--getting rid of the t-mobile crap would be nice too
So Flashing instructions...or, if someone can't link me to some source that would be great! Thanks.
ok, CID unlocked.
So plug it in, connect activesync and flash away?
nevermind, i get it hehe.. i found some instructions here that can be tailored to install other roms:

Please help a noob - never upgraded a ROM before

Hi People
I am new to upgrading. Before I get the business of "you have not read the posts" I have read the posts. That's why I am writing here. The more I read, the more contradicting it is. I have the following:
T-Mobile MDA Unlocked SIM
IPL/SPL 2.26.0001
GSM 02.25.11
OS 2.26.10.2
I know this is a G4, but I have read that you can flash a ROM to an locked CID, but other areas say you cannot. I also have seen many different guides to flash, but some say the CID have to be unlocked others don't. I also have not seen whether the original ROM is saved in case you want or need to put it back. I have also read that you may have to input the GSM settings (I use Rogers in Canada). I bought this unit on eBay unlocked and all I had to do was put in my SIM card and it worked. Will the same happen if I upgrade the ROM? I find after reading so many threads it seems so confusing and was hoping someone here could help me out as you all seem to love flashing ROMs.
Thanks so much in advance,
Mike

hi,
ok,now let me try to explain in plain words,
1. U cannot for sure upgrade to a newer rom untill u r CID unlocked, now as u say u got ur wizzard from ebay.now it must have come with a pre-installed OS,plz check from which carrier it is from.If its Cid locked than it can only be upgraded with that official rom from which it came pre-installed with. But if u want to upgrade to some other wm6 cooked rom than u'll have to get it Cid unlocked.
now to upgrade,do the following:-
a)If u want to upgrade with official rom from which it came preinstalled, than visit the official site and download the official rom for ur exact device and upgrade without any Cid unlocking process ,its fairly self explanatory, how to upgrade with official rom as it comes with a self upgrade romutility.
b) if u want to upgrade to any other wm6 cooked rom, than i'am afraid u'll have to CID unlock ur device. As u say u have a G4 device there's a different procedure to Cid unlock it than G3.It's done with a utility tool called SHELLTOOL.search and read how to go about it.First download a tool "WST tool" by Mestrini ,install it and check if ur device is Cid locked or unlocked. If u find it locked than adopt the Cid unlock method through SHELL tool,if its already Cid unlocked than go ahead & flash with any wm6 rom.
As for ur question about sim unlocked, its different being from CID unlock.with sim unlocked u can put any carrier sim and use ur device. But with Cid unlock u can upgrade to any rom u desire.
Well, once SIM/CID unlocked it remains unlocked forever, unless u personelly don't lock SIM/CID.
Well,I believe if it came SIM unlocked, than it might be CID unlocked also.cuz all the carriers never give Sim unlocked.but than there might be some exceptions.therefore u must get it confirmed before any upgrade.
Hope I was able to clear some of ur doubts.goodluck

@zabardast_1 dude..
@Miker2006
Upgrading won't affect your Sim unlock status, it's permanent.
You don't NEED to CID unlock your phone to upgrade:
You can use Soft SPL to make the phone temporary think it's CID unlocked (while flashing).
Or you can semi-permanent let the phone think it's CID unlocked by Hard SPL.
This SPL will mimic a CID unlocked state, so you can flash all kinds of ROMs to your device.
BTW ShellTool WON'T cid unlock your device, Hard SPL is the closest you get to a Free CID unlock.
Best regards,
EquinoXe
PS. Read the stickies before Flashing, don't turn your wizard into a brick.
Actually it is a good show case that reading helps .. one day after his post Miker2006 did ..

HTC TYTN II (not Tilt) Questions

Hello, I am going to buy an HTC TYTN II Unlocked phone. I am now using an ATT 8525 on which I installed the HTC TYTN rom with WM6. I unlocked the 8525 using the Hard/SPL and SIM/CID unlock. My question is, since the TYTN II I am buying will be unlocked, do I still need to do the HARD/SPL and SIM/CID unlock to make the phone work on multiple carriers? I don't think I will be playing around with any different roms on the TYTN II since I heard it is a good rom, so my main question is about the SIM issue.
Thanks, sorry if this is a stupid question.
nope. its an unlocked phone by default if you buy it htc branded, so you don't need to do anything to sim unlock it, it'll just work - just make sure you let it set everying up properly when you turn it on for the first time
If you are buying an "unlocked" phone, it is SIM unlocked. That's what makes it possible to use it on any GSM carrier.
You only need to flash HardSPL (CID unlock the phone) if you plan to flash ROMs. That being said - the HTC ROM is decent, but not up to par with what the pros are cooking up here. I was hesitant to flash, so I used it for the first week. When I started flashing, I never looked back. They take the best from the stock ROMs and improve upon it (particularly in the speed and performance arena). FWIW.
Hey thanks for the clarification. I guess I should consider using a cooked ROM like I did for my 8525, what a difference it made to use the TYTN rom. I know there is a link for the HardSPL, so all I need to do is flash that to the TYTN II and I can use any rom I find, right? What about the issues with the drivers for the TYTN II, do any new roms address those issues? If I flash HardSPL am I then forced to immediately flash a new rom?
Is this the link for the HardSPL for the TYTN II?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
I don't need to run the SIM unlocker obviously, right? Just HardSPL?
What about SuperCID and Security Unlocker?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361236
Do I need to bother with this?
Hey there. What if I do the SIM/CID unlock on the TYTN II already unlocked phone? I remember that I had to do that on my 8525 before I could do the HardSPL. In other words, should I do the SIM/CID unlock and then do the HardSPL??
Thanks!
SIM unlock and CID unlock are two different things. If you are buying an "unlocked" phone, it will be SIM unlocked and you don't need to run anything. I wouldn't run anything SIM related (like the SIM unlocker that was released), just so you don't cause an issue. HardSPL (which will CID unlock your phone) will not force you to immediately flash a new ROM...just gives you the option to. Does not affect the current ROM you have on it. So there is no confusion - you should be looking here for info on HardSPL. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679 If you have any issues with the HardSPL, there are several stickies and many topics related to problems.
I have not used SuperCID or Security Unlocker. As such, there is no need to in order to take advantage of custom ROMs.
Again...don't mess around with the SIM unlocker if you are buying an "unlocked" phone. You do HAVE to run HardSPL before you try to flash a ROM or radio or anything. However, once you flash HardSPL you do not HAVE to immediately flash a ROM or radio.
I highly encourage you to read the wiki and the stickies more than once before you start messing around with this stuff or if you are even slightly confused. The standard ROM isn't so bad that you have to run out and flash the first day if you are not comfortable doing so. Good luck.
I'm getting a locked ATT which I'll be CID unlocking as well as SIM unlocking. What then would be the best ROM to run for the best overall functionality etc etc
Thanks
JG
Hey thanks for the help. I am fairly conifdent about flashing roms. I did it with no problem on the 8525 and it has worked well so far. I guess I will wait and play with the standard rom on the TYTN II and then decide about changing, but I will definitely flash HardSPL as soon as I get it.
Thanks again!!

They don't like anyone to ask about which rom to use because ther are so many, you just have to decide and play around with them on your own.

What is the best religion?
Which is the best football team?
OK the last one doesnt really apply as everyone knows it is Man United but you get the idea. Everyone has their own needs, preferences etc.
Best advice is to read the relevent ROM threads and choose one that sounds most appropriate for your needs. FWIW though Duttys ROMs do seem very popular.

Videos on Customs Roms

im trying to figure out of to flash a new rom to my hd7. I see that ive got to downgrade my bootloader to 4 etc.. but i dont think ive got the backup of nodo. Also do i need a pin unlock or chevron unlock?
Downgrading spl to 4.x would be needed. Dangerous though. Follow directions on here to a "T" or else you could end up with an expensive paper weight.
After downgrading spl, Install HSPL, this puts a custom SPL allowing for custom roms. After HSPL is installed you could flash any rom you want. Pin or chevron unlock is not needed. All custom roms for hd7 come chevron and interop unlocked.

easiest and least complicated and least time consuming way is by flashing a Custom ROM.
