Who are interested to see Linux also on this device?
The process should be very similar to Hermes implementation, so we can follow their steps.
Interesting

answering myself: yes it is, which means that I am in! I would love to help with the investigation for getting linux on this device. Looks like the new haret (01/01/2007) works well on trinity. I have successfully telnetted to it and executed several different commands.

Register a machine number for it.
Are the trinity internals known as good as the Hermes ?

What do you mean by Register a machine number? where do I do this? As far as I know, the internals are pretty well known. We have pictures that identifies all the relevant chips, and schematics for a lot of the chipset.

It is in one (or more) of the threads in the trinity forum here at xdadevelopers. I do not have the direct links here, but have seen them recently. it is most likely in oone of the "GPS or not GPS" threads.
I have now registered the HTC Trinity/P3600
Very

How is the state of art in porting linux on this device?
And on Hermes? Does the kernel boot?
With wm6 do you have to hard reset every time you try to boot the kernel?
Maybe Pof can answer these questions.
Thanks
@renatostore: cr2 and Kevin2 are the guys working on it, come into #htc-linux at freenode irc network.
On hermes the kernel boots, and we can load a minimal initrd using haret. On trinity i haven't checked lastly.
You don't need to hard reset afer booting linux, that was only on WM2003
Hi
How about linux on trinity? i've been on the irc channel but didn't get any answer... a few months passed... i'm in hope!
I don't have high hope on that. Heard it's very difficult to debug stuff in Linux due to the lack of a hardware kb....
why do you want linux on this phone? you are not going to be able to cross-compile apps over and I don't see a useful app in linux that wm6 doesn't have already for a phone.
Hi...
Still interested...
Had someexperience with h36xx and h38xx/h39xx series HP/Compaq PDA's and familiar linux, and it would be very cool to have some of this running on the HTC hardware too...
Anyone already had a ROM cooked up with kernel/basic apps?
Any idea what will/does work and what won't/doesn't? like phone, camera, wifi, gprs, bluetooth, ...
Thanks!

Check the hermes wiki.
trinity is the hermes without keyboard, minor differences are unimportant
The future of Linux on PDAs is Andromeda. Don't expect this to be implemented on existing devices - Andromeda will be a means to deliver new devices to the market.
While you will most likely need a new phone for Andromeda, you will gain a complete platform with stylish and working applications, so you will be able to actually use the device right from the start.
Have fun!
Is anybody working at 3d driver from kaiser?
i currently have a LOT of my more techy geek friends looking at the kaiser to see what they can do, but they have had the phone for a month and have history of writing drivers and right now they don't look promising. maybe others with more software/drivers programming background are working at it but i wouldn't expect anything anytime soon. the phone has been out for a year and no one anywhere has written drivers for it
In htc daimond rom are 3d drivers?

Whats The Problem??
Had to add my P.O.V
My Kaiser does exactly what I want it to do now it is upgraded. (Thanks L26 vers 5)
As far as drivers for 3d go, tom tom works perfectly fine, videos play top notch, worms world party is faultless, quake plays nice enough. Who needs anything more?
The Kaiser is a fantastic little device when you consider what it does for the money. A short while ago I was getting fed up with video playback and the odd internet problem when scrolling. But as far as I am concerned, my little baby is wonderful and out performs any of the previous devices I have owned since the newer rom updates for 6.1 have become the norm and have been tweaked by the generosity of all those who stand infront of a hot over (EVEN when on vacation.)

i think i need to clairfy myself:
mark i thought u were being sarcastic when you wrote that you were running the drivers so i took it as a joke and cracked up if you were, however, serious than my apologize didn't mean to blow off what you were saying as a joke.
Hope this clears up the air. i have gxmark on leos rom that i am running right now and it is definitley an improvement in the rom, however i don't think its the full drivers that we all had our hopes for
when WM7 is released, what are the chances that someone will release a cooked version for the Kaiser? Is there enough RAM/ROM/CPU?
errrrrr no.
I'm sure someone will try, but I seriously doubt the HW is up to the Job.
Dave
I doubt we'll even care by the time it gets released - latest reports are claiming delays of up to 2 years...
I can remember the same questions being asked from HPC 2001 ->2002 and it only seems like yesterday we were asking the same question of WM5->WM6...
Patience....
I doubt it will, most devices will be fully VGA by then, and trying to get the OS and interfaces working on the kaiser (QVGA) might prove to be difficult.

I only re-itterating(sp?) what other people have said and by the tie WM7 is out i would iagine hat for 99% of people (including myself) using a Kaiser will be a distant memory and we will be using much more up to date hardware (in relation to the time when WM7 is out)

heh, i get the point, but my main worry is that it will be a while before the system and the apps are stable to use on a daily basis. and it will not be easy to get used to a new layout after using WM for the last 2 years.
one of the major things for me would be having proper accelerated 2d/3d drivers, but as i said, that might take some time...
also will be interesting to see if web apps can be developed and *run* on the phone... im learning Rails at the moment, would be cool to be able to use it in ways that i couldn't with WM.

it's basicly misc Hardware stuff.
CPU might be the same same jeah, but evyerthing else is not. neither the chipsets for the keyboard are, nor is the chipset for making phonecalls, nor the memory and so on.
it's liek trying to fit a Mazda Elektronics into a ford ka. maybe u can squeeze it in but im sure it wont work since the electronic doesnt know any part of the new car.

electronic doesn't need to know the car. because in computer systems, there exist another layer between the electronic and the car.
it's called the kernel. hardware abstraction layer.
it'll work... just need someone free enough to make it work.

CE7 requires ARM V7
MSM700X = ARM V6
Qualacom Snapdragon = ARM V7
Unless you can rewrite the MS Core, it ain't comin'.
What about just the WinMo7 apps??
Don't care so much about getting 7 perse, but it would be nice if some of the apps can be ported over...like the Xbox Live or the Netflix Movie Streaming apps...
Hint Hint...
Any takers?? Can it be done, or are these apps strictly WinMo7 dependent??

I agree with you there. The 7 Pro is on my wish list, but not until someone gets a different OS working on it.
I would say no, but then again Android, Ubuntu and other OS's have been ported and they weren't exactly designed for the device. I would say nothing is impossible, unlikely? Yes.
