Usually charge my Tilt over night. But just to check it I unplug it before going to bed.
Started at 100% when I went to bed, I got up 7 hours later and it was at 56%. That is far worse than I expected!
Is this normal? Or shouls I restore it back the the original ROM and exchange it while I still have time.
What did you have turned on? If you leave Bluetooth and WiFi on overnight it'll definitely kill your battery... you should disable them in the commanger when not in use to save battery life.
Also, if you have the mail client set to check for new mail often (every 5 minutes or so) it'll keep firing up a data connection which uses the battery.
Thats certainly not normal. check if you dont have Wifi or an 3G connection at the moment.
I did have bluetooth on. I am on a 3G network, but not connected to a data session.
I had this problem with one of the 'cooked' roms. For the 5 weeks I had my phone, I never had a problem with it draining overnight. I flashed one of the roms, and two nights in a row I woke up to a dead battery. I reflashed the ATT rom, and haven't had a problem since.
Overnight battery drain
I have a tilt, std AT&T rom, with some modifications and updates, found here. I have pop email service running every 15 minutes, and commontime Mnotes push email to my lotus notes files and email, bluetooth on at all times. My overnight battery drain, 8-9 hours will be from 100% down to 89-92%, so I would say there is something else wrong. If you have "battery status" (found in this wiki) on your today screen, it will show you battery drain. You should also have the tweak settings to turn off your 3G connection after 1 minute after completion of data transfer. If this does not do it, go back to the OEM rom and then add your updates.
It should not drain the battery like you are seeing, my reference as a guide and I push my phone pretty hard for data and email.
Good luck,

Totally agree.
there is also the posibility that you have a defective battery that's not holding charge. If you check with your phone supplier and tell them nicely that's the problem they will most likely give you a replacement (as they will send the old one back in the packaging as a return).
OK, I'll flash back to my original AT&T ROM and see what that does. I have another batter (1650 from ebay, a cheap one) but don't expect to have it for another 4 or 5 days.
it's a shame because I really like this Dutty's ATT Beta 2.
Anyone have a good full featured ROM their using that I can try if I find the AT&T original give me better battery life?
My overnight drain with bluetooth On and band set on EDGE is 4%. The only times I've found it low to dead overnite is when I've left WiFi On, not sure why as it should standby when off, but at least twice it's sapped the battery dead.

I wonder if when you get below a certain crital % battery level that cellphone or any Tx/Rx connection drops off? I have noticed once before (and never associated it with anything) that when I was near an audio device (my PC speakers are best for this) and my battery was low that it was 'polling' the cell network like crazy as if losing connection! This may also work for WiFi (which in sleep periodically checks if the network is still in range) and BT?
Something to investigate!
Overnight, around 7hrs, from a 100% battery with BT always on Wi-Fi off, 3G always connected and it's setup to check my email every 2hrs, I only loose 1 to 2% battery life and my alarm going off for about 5mins , this is with the Orange HTC Tytn 2 using their original ROM
Wel, I flashed the latest Dutty's ATT touch ROM. My battery did improve.
From 100% to 78% over night with bluetooth on. Not great but much better.
I'll see how it goes tonight.
My overnight drain is typically 5-7%.
This is with e-mail poll every 5 minutes, so data connection is on.
Bluetooth & WiFi off.
OK, checked it again this morning and this time at was at 98%!
I couldnet figure out why the day before it was at 78% and today at 97%. everything was the same (or so I thought).
I noticed later that the Radio pluging (to toggle BT, WiFi, and phone radios on/off) was not on my today screen. It was set to, but apparently didn't load. Maybe that is somehow the issue. I'll keep it off all day and see it I don't have more juice at the end of the day than usual. I'll turn it on again for tomorrow and see my my battery drains quickly again.
I think the battery capabilities may have a lot to do with this.
Anyone here use Li-Polimer for anything else? I do, minature 3D (no pun intended!) RC helicopters, and the individual packs NEVER produce the same charge/discharge cycle..
Not one is the same from purchase.
Some packs can devolve a low current without much adverse effect, others can charge with a greater sustain. If you present a charge cycle whilst discharge is taking place, it can effect performance.
Lots to look at here guys including device settings but when you put all these aspects together, as in this thread, there is something to work on...
I could've swore that when you turn your phone on stand-by (press the power button on the side to turn the screen off) that it also disables wifi until you wake the phone up.
I was having this same issue. Turned off Bluetooth and Wi-fi at night, hit the power button on the phone and now it only drains about 3% in the 6 hours I sleep.

It does unless the ROM you install changes the registry keys or you do yourself.
ah, okay.. well as long as the battery life lasts longer than the tytns then i'm happy
don't forget the default design of WM !!! ( X does not closes running programs ) ... get a task manager and make sure X DOES fully exit
I had to add that in to cover all the bases
Hi.
I don't seem to last a day without recharging my battery (either by USB or Outlet).
I have some useful programs but I'm afraid to use them sometimes because my phone wont last the day.
On a regular day, without extreme program usage (WiFi, GPS, games etc), just regular phone calls (GSM not 3G), my battery power lasts maybe 18 hours.
If i used 1/4 of my installed programs moderetely, my battery power lasts for about 10-12 hours.
I would like your professional advise to better by battery life.
1. Would changing my ROM to a better modified one solve my issue?
2. Is there a backround process (that is not detected my my task manager) working that I should know about?
3. Are there any tweaks (non registry) that I can do to better the life?
4. Are there any registry fixes that can be done to better the life?
5. Do third party cabs (SPB etc.) drain the battery life even if they are idle?
6. Does letting my battery fully drain and then fully charging it over and over really help the overall battery life?
FYI: I have the OEM ROM, my phone had never been Hard reseted before
I have tried all sorts of things, but I cannot manage to get my phone to last more than a day.
I would really appreciate your advise.
Thanks.
P.S please dont tell me that you people go 2-3 days without charging (that would hurt my feelings )
my kaiser lasts about 10 hours if heavily used, I mean 3G internet always on, browsing with opera mini all while listening to MP3s..
With normal usage and 3G coverage (but classic talks, not video ones) it last al least 2 days..
that's strange
Hi,
i managed to have good power after alot of research and tweaks on this forum.
-disable 3g service
-make sure no application auto-enable wifi, make sure its off.
-make sure device is set lock all buttons
on normal days with just afew calls and very little surfing, i my battery life is the same as other non-pda phones!

Default ROM sucks. The registry is setup completely ineffecient (like all M$ software) so eats capacity and battery.
Best thing to do is check the 'Kaiser upgrading' thread and compare the radio version you have with what's posted there and see if you could improver performance. I'm still on the original radio that it cam with, but trying multiple Rom's dramatically improved battery life. That and speed and performance. Their is much to gain, my friend.
I advise you read the articles about CID and SIM unlocking before attemting to flash anything.
Upgrade your radio to 1.27.12.17/32, turn off 3G and flash some clean ROM (like Q-Mobile - see in my signature )
My phone can survive now more than 3 days on normal usage. Before it could live 2-3 days max.
Maybe can you enable alimentation tweaks with KaiserTweak to begin ?

2 / 3 days... Some phone calls, wifi and 3G
Much better than the HTC ROM !

Just got my Kaiser yesterday. Left it to charge all night and removed it by 7:30 am. At 16:00, battery shows 14% left?!?!?!?
What the heck?
Did all the power tweaks from KaiserTweak.
Lets see how it goes without 3G and with the tweaks I did today.
ROM: 1.81.415.4 WWE
Radio 1.27.15.32
Protocol: 22.51.88.13H
it can't be stated enough how quickly your battery will die if you have your mailboxes checking for new mail 'as they come in' or 'every 5 minutes', etc. if you have important emails your expecting then turn it to those settings, but if you don't care if you get your mail only every hour then go that route - it makes a big difference in the battery life.. also make sure you have the disconnect option in kaiser tweak set on - i have mine set at disconnect after 2 minutes.. and finally, if you can get away with using edge then have your phone always set to edge and only set to 3g for web surfing - pulling down your text based email in edge and not 3g is usually a pretty negligible difference.
on a side note, i bought a 3000mAH battery for about $70.. it improves the battery life a decent amount, but the reality is is that if you use the GPS for 2-3 hours without having it plugged in while using the GPS then you can always expect the battery to be dead by the end of the day (or sooner).. if your going to use it as a GPS then have it plugged in..
its all about wifi...turn it off if not needed.
This has been discussed in many previous threads.
All the above are applicable and also get rid of any fancy today plugins that show data state (WiFi-phone) and battery condition as they are constantly running and polling the relevant devices.
You will see a VAST difference when you do that.
I think it is the phone in the Kaiser that drains the battery.
NOTE that this is NOT about using the built in funtions too much, please read the conditions of this test.
First of all, I am not a typical Kaiser user - the sim card I am using at the moment doesn't support 3G or any fancy functions - just domestic calls and sms!
I think it has been some weeks where I had this problem, but I am not really sure. But here is what I did to test, read it closely:
Kaiser is started from cold last evening, no apps started, nothing running. It has been charged to 100%, and before going to bed, I disable the only thing I have running - the phone! No bluetooth, wireless, nothing at all. I press the power button briefly to put the phone to sleep, right after pulling the charger plug.
All night, the phone is sitting in flight mode, without charger, and in the morning I wake it up and check the battery. 100% it says. Then I turn the phone on (3G is selected off, I have the modified version of comm manager where 3G is included). I check the battery again, 100%, and then mobile signal strength, there are 4 bars, plenty of signal. Then I briefly press the power button to turn off the display.
Time is 0800, phone is on, display off, and I leave it on the table in the same place where the mobile signal was 4 bars. I remove the battery cover, just to be able to monitor the battery temperature during this test. Room temperature is regulated to 23 deg C, and the phone is not exposed to sunlight.
This is what happened:
Phone on glass table, no bag, battery cover removed, 23 deg constant temp, no sunlight
0800: 100% Phone is turned on via Comm Manager, 3G deactivated
0815: 96% slightly warm battery, can just barely feel the battery is a little warmer around the middle, but it is definately warm from battery.
0930: 83% battery still warm
1007: 78% warm battery
1105: 68% still warm - checking the phone signal, still 4 bars
1312: Green light flashes like every other second, but I cannot turn the phone on. Not even sliding the keyboard open wakes it up. I remove the battery and then put it back in place, and turn on the phone.
1313: The phone has booted, battery is now 16%! That is why it did not want to wake up again ...
I connect the charger, checking SMS and phone list. No calls or messages.
So, from 0800 to 1313, just over 5 hours, the phone went from 100% to 16%, with NO USE AT ALL except the phone in standby. Compare that to being all night in the same state, EXCEPT with the phone off.
If it is not something with the phone itself, it MUST be something related pretty close to it.
Some users only have "normal" battery problems because they use the phone with too many functions. As this is obviously NOT the problem here, spare these comments (your phone is OK then). This s... is serious!
------------------------
I urge others who have battery frain problems on the Kaiser to do the same test. Most should be able to do this on - say - a saturday evening (the following day should be one where you don't need your phone too much, and where you don't expect people to call or text you too much).
BATTERY DRAIN TEST:
1. Make sure phone is charged to 100%
2. Reboot and don't start any apps
3. Check no apps running, kill any that started by themselves
4. Turn off everything in comm manager (flight mode, basically)
5. Power off the display, and leave overnight, CHARGER DISCONNECTED.
6. When you get up in the morning, turn it on (should still be in standby with display off)
7. Check battery level and note the time and the phone signal strenght
8. Turn on the phone in the comm manager, nothing else
9. Press the power button briefly to bring turn the screen off
10. Every hour or so, note turn the display on and note the battery level and confirm that the phone signal is still OK
Mine lasted just about 5 hours like this, how long does YOUR Kaiser last???
---------------

LGB,
from your description I do not see why you are pointing at the phone, of all things. Maybe you just installed an application which keeps your phone from getting some rest in standby.
During my tests as shown in the thread "HTC models with GPS? Excessive standby battery drain CONFIRMED - FAQ added" I used two different OS (WM6 and WM6.1). In both cases I did not install anything except for a GPS tool (tried HTC's GPSTool, Chartcross GPSTest and OziExplorer, to exclude potential application specific trouble) which was sufficient to reproduce the problem. I do not know whether you went that far, but I am afraid you have to follow the same procedure. Before doing so you can try to locate an unusual process running in the background, using TaskManager (one which can show you the processes as well). There may be an "Anti social application", as someone else has put it.
If you find out the exact circumstances, I will be happy to add this to the first page of the abovementioned sticky thread. To me this all seems too much related to each other. It is well possible that the HTC has several sensible spots concerning standby current consumption, and of course I would like to see the complete picture. Best result being one common reason... lets try to nail down this sucker.
BusterTyTN
More than often I go to university and leave Kaiser only with the phone function (GSM, no 3G), no apps running, except for HTC Home Plugin and Pocket Contacts. If nothing happens, like receiving/sending SMS or phone calls, after about 7 hours its at 92/94%. And my carrier doesn't have a good signal there.

ever thought it might be your radio version?
Just a thought guys, but isn't it better to also state some detailed information like :
- ROM version
- Radio version
- SN of battery (there could be a bad batch of batteries around)
- Name of provider
Here's my details, but I haven't got this problem (I can easily run 1 week with battery with quite a lot of Wifi use) :
- ROM : Dutty 6.1 WWE
- Radio : 1.64.06.04
- SN of battery : DCOX17BM003309
- Name of Provider Orange NL
Why don`t you just try a full backup, format yer phone and do the test again?
Doing such test with alot installed is no point.
For my part: My Kaiser is brand new and I am impressed by the batterylife. None of my kaiser-equipped friends have this problem eighter.
Start your phone from scrach. I`m sure the problem will dissappear.
If not it should be under warranty and you should get a replacement.
No phones gets drained by itself while in standby, and if it does its something wrong with it.

1 WEEK! hmmmm something smells fishy..............
I have been experiencing a lot more battery drain since using radio version: 1.64.08.21 from 1.27.12.11. But my previous radio version does not work for Sleuth's WM6.1 V3.0. Do you think having a bigger pool size can contribute to power drain also?

Install Batterystatus and tell us what mA power drain your getting.
Battery drain of this magnitude could be a short circuit, causing the heat. Get a replacement if under warranty.

I have my Tytn II for 2 months now, but I'm still waiting on my service provider switch, and as it is locked I can't use phone function yet.
BUT, even without phone and with normal daily usage (some gaming, some WiFi, calendar, etc.) I have to recharge every other day. Furthermore I'm experiencing massive battery drain even at standby mode (guess it runs out 20% overnight, doing absolutely nothing!). I always check my task manager and clear any running programs.. I run Batti, which is the only program that's always running I can think of..

This is how it USED to be for me ... I don't know when, but at a certain stage, that CHANGED. Now, I can get 5 hours only, like that. When I check TASK MANAGER, all I have running are these two apps:
SMS / MMS
Comm Manager
ROM 1.56.403.4 09/19/07
Radio version: 1.27.12.11
Protocol version: 22.45.88.07H
Advanced configuration tool v 1.1 by Schap's:
OS: Microsoft Windows CE 5.2.1620 (Info says build 18125.0.4.2)
.NET Compact Framework: 2.0.7045.0
Glyph cache: 8192
File system cache: Auto
File system filter cache: 0
Phone: Everything is ticked, meaning Show video dialer, SIM contacts, Band page, PIN2 page, Time Zones page, TTY page, ENABLE DTMF support, EDGE Icon, HSDPA icon, Disable SMS sent notification
GPRS/3G disconnect and timer ticked, connection always on is NOT ticked, Disconnect GPRS/3G after 600 seconds (but I haven't used either for a long time now)
Com manager has button 10 as 3G so I can disconnect it
SYSTEM INFO says:
Windows Mobile 6.0 (WinCE 5.02)
Program memory 38% (38.07/101.4MB)
Storage memory 65% (87.65/135.5MB)
Memory card 89% (5.06/5.7GB)
I also have the tweaks2k2 net installed, could I have changed something by mistake?
But WHY is it that when the phone is off, I get normal battery life, with phone ON it goes down fast, even with no use?
I did a new test this morning, this is what I did:
Phone charged 100% in the evening. Flight mode all night with screen off. In the morning it was 99%, and this is what I did:
0648:99% GPS on (GPSTuner, very basic GPS program, just to keep it alive), lowest setting on the display. GPS came on pretty quick, and I kept poking the display now and then to keep it out of standby
0728:66% (GPS and display still on, behind shielded windoes so DOP only between 5 and 25, GPS working to try to hold position!)
0827:29%
0910:10% 3xbeep, battery warning
So, with the display on lowest setting but constantly on and GPS running also, I got 2:22 from 99% to 10%, no other items enabled (no phone, bluetooth, wireless etc)
...
my batt
i have had my tilt since late dec? its been dropped lots of times ( yah i know its bad) i have upgraded to the new att fw( just realy havent looked @ new roms)
i did flash a new splash screen i got a good umts signel where i live. if i charge my phone adn then go home and go to sleep with maybe a few apps running when i wake up @ night( i work nights) my phone normally is around 85 to 90% on the batt. my batt sn is 5fga279v007664
r=1.27.14.09
g= 22.45.8807h
d=1.62.00.00
idk about yall i do lots of txtin adn web access adn i normally go to sleep around 12ish pm then wake up around 7 or 8 pm and my phone normally will last 2ish days
Discovered today that even though comm manager said 3g off if I went into connections and opened up hsdpa it was on. Was wondering why my battery was draining so damn fast. Not quite at your speed but quickly.
If I was you I would grab abcpowermeter and also SKTOOLS and use them, they will show drain and the FULL list of procs running and which ones are chewing up the cpu.
hmm lemme try seeing if it lasts abit longer when its on gsm only..im going to have to wait till tue because i work in a call center and the gsm interference irritates the crap outta me and my customers.

Sorry but my TyTN II does not discharge like that at all.

I charge my TyTN II to 100% at around 20h00. By 08h00 the next morning my phone is on 94% with nothing disabled except bluetooth, which I then switch on when I drive off.
There are some apps like Cyberon Voice command and Windows Mobile Voice Command which I have since removed, which do consume enormous amounts of power even on standby.
My TyTN II details:
ROM version: 1.56.421.1
ROM Date: 26th October 2007
Radio Version: 1.27.15.32
Protocol Version: 22.51.88.13H
Service Provider/Network: Vodacom South Africa
i use edge only, new niki radio, push activated, 60-70mins of voice a day, 50-60 txts a day and i can get to 2.5+ days with 4% left, screen brightness is the 3rd notch from left.
So I flashed the new Fresh ROM and it is taking FOREVER to charge. I finally got it up to 100% and less than 7 hours, it was completely dead.
Any ideas?
Me too! Killed my battery in 7 hours while charging overnight!
Have you looked at what's using the battery?
I know in some of the other 2.1 roms, facebook is constantly syncing which kills the battery.
You can use logcat in sdk to see what the phone is doing while it's idle.
Also, service can also change the drain on your battery. I know at work (inside a 3 story brick building) I get horrible service and my phone is dead by noon if it's not plugged in. At home, it can go all day and then some.
Same issues here. Takes forever to charge and dies quickly. I haven't flashed the new radio yet....could this be this issue?
I've been using it since he released it and battery life is more than excellent. I can go a whole day then some
Go under settings, about phone, battery. What is your uptime and awake time?
Then tap on battery use. What has the highest percentage of use time on your battery?
Also check out 'cell standby'. Tap it.. Time Without Signal should be very low, or missing.
up time 8:57
awake time : 2:42
highest use is close between cell stanby48% and phone idle 47%
time without signal : 0%
BTW my battery was at 38% with little use(a few text msgs and fb mobile a couple of times)
TWS is fine then. Do you have the sync icon constantly running?
And what is your PRL/PRI (sorry if you posted that already).
PRI - flipz_01
PRL - 60663
What about the sync icon?
sorry....no sync icon
Weird. Any mods/themes/etc?
What I would do at this point is wipe everything (including ext), and reflash, then see if you still have the problems. I haven't had those issues, so I can't give you anything else to look at.
Perhaps someone else can, but that's all I can think of.
You could try the new radio. Some have said they get much better battery life with it (which is likely caused by the radio not having to search for signal as often...but since your TWS is 0% I'd be surprised if that's it). Try that, then nuke and pave would be my suggestion.
Last night was the first night that I had my alarm set. Could this have anything to do with the drain?
I had a weird issue with the battery. I don't know what exactly caused it and I could not pinpoint it with "Battery Use" nor "Spare Parts." My phone was staying constantly awake though, no matter what.
I eventually just partitioned the SD card, with no ext partitions (no apps2sd), flashed fresh again, and now it's all working great. I am installing my apps very slowly and monitoring them to see which one may have been causing the problem. So far no problems though.

I was getting decent battery life when I flashed 2.0d originally so this might not help you but after I flashed the newest radio my battery life got way better. I can listen to slacker radio for 4 hours while studying and use the phone intermittently throughout the day and get about 12 hours out of the battery life.
anybody who has crappy battery life check if your phone is on GSM auto PRL?

I'm running Fresh Rom and my battery is great. I haven't charged my phone since 6:30am this morning(it's 8:30pm here now) and it's at 60%. I'm using the new radio too.
scratch what I said yesterday, lol... my phone randomly rebooted overnight and now I can't get it to stop being 100% awake...
EDIT: Tried rebooting, tried "power cycling" phone, did the CDMA (Auto PRL) fix just in case, didn't install any new apps, battery use shows TWS at 0%, Cell Standby Time on = My total uptime.
Spare Parts Battery History shows my phone as 100% running, no sleep time.
Spare parts partial wake usage just shows Android System..
Battery is draining like crazy..

That shouldnt be an issue any more. Flipz fixed it in 2.0d.
Change your screen brightness to auto. When I first flashed it was at the highest setting and killing my battery. A lot better now...

but doesnt overcharging the battery damage the battery even more?
How I solved my battery drain problem!
Have you tried turning off 3G?
I also had this issue battery drain was huge. It started appearing suddenly one day. Its a very slow process to figure out the culprit. I did a step by step analysis.
1. Found out that battery drain was happening only when 3G was on. Verified this by switching off data network (long press power button to deactivate).
2. Also verified abnormal data usage in my carrier page when I was not using my phone [like - 3G was on and I was watching a movie at a theater].
3. I also saw abnormal battery drain soon after I started Google Maps after a fresh reboot.
4. So I identified the culprit - Google Maps - but was not sure how to solve battery drain [Google Maps restarts, if you kill it].
5. I installed a variety of apps to identify the battery hog. Finally I went for Task Identifier.
6. Task Identifier finally showed me what programs started while my screen was off, etc. And I started noting them. Finally I figured out that Google Maps::BackgroundFriendService was running frequently.
7. A quick search on Google helped me understand that this is about Google Latitude. It searches for your friend's location every now and then - leading to battery drain!!!
8. I opened up Latitude and signed out from it [I guess the sign out option is in Menu -> Privacy].
9. Do not re-open Google Latitude after this - you will get signed in again leading to battery drain.
10. After 2-3 months of search and prodding, I finally figured out the cause of battery drain and fixed it - now I get 2 - 3 days of charge in my battery under normal usage!!
I'm happy now!!
Hi,
If you're using Froyo and can access file in your phone,
In task manager , on the tab "Summary", click on the "start monitoring" button. Let it monitor the phone over the night. The next morning, there should be 2 files created in your sdcard, one is CPUxxxxx and the other one is battxxxxxx.
The Batxxx tells you when the percentage of the battery at certain time of time. the CPUxxxx will tell you wht applications are running during that period.
When i used it first time, i notice that facebook and lattitude always running - when I stop these 2 tasks; i get a normal drain again.
while you guys are at it.
here's my "problem".
when I surf for an hour over 2g I losing about 10% batterylife and android reports that my display uses around 90% to 95% of the battery.
display is set to lowest brightness + screen filter.
is that normal? (im guessing it is not).
used dozens of different roms (stock, darky, jims, etc...), same behaviour everywhere.
i already did all the battery stat wiping and whatnot.
is it a faulty battery or display or something?
for the OP, maybe a combination of the above with this could help :

helped me .
edit : to pfannenwender, maybe your unit is faulty?

Sounds normal to me. 10% loss while surfing and 95% display is nothing extraordinary.
