What are people's observations re: performance of Kaiser? I've been using Hermes (8525) since last January, have gone through a few ROMs (now using vp3G's latest WM6 ROM), and I continue being annoyed by sluggish performance. With more ROM, a better CPU, and a different graphic chipset, I wonder how much better the Kaiser is at these two...
opening the keyboard... on the 8525 it takes at least a second for the device to handle that, and another second or two for the keyboard to become responsive. Very annoying, especially when I need to type in a GoodLink password or type up a quick response to an email.
waking up... depending on the apps running, it can take a half second to a second after I push the power button and before the home screen fully redraws (this is specific to waking up to the home screen)
Can someone please run some benchmarks on both phones!! would really like to see the performance difference, before i upgrade to TYTN II...
What benchmarks would you like to see run?
Subjectively, the II is a little nippier than the I, but not revelatory. The Ameo is still much faster at web page rendering, eg. But that could be as a result of a better radio as well as more horsepower under the hood.
The GPS seems pretty good. Finds satellites faster than the Ameo.
Is the GPS as good as the Sirf-III implementations??

Kaiser's performance compared to Hermes with WM6 (LVSW and Dopod's lately) is MUCH better. Waking up device - split second, literally. Switching to landscape - well, still takes a little bit of time, but looks snappier. Rebooting also clearly faster. So far I am really happy with it's performance, but don't forget, it has just been released. True judgements will come after some time of daily usage...
so Kaiser turns on fast - that's good. Does the clock update instantly, or do you have to wait a few seconds for it to update like the HTC Wizard?

The wizard is a couple steps down the line as far as performance and hardware.
on the 8525 the clock is instant.

I've got it now, but it says it should be done on freshly hard-reset device, takes ~35 minutes to complete benchmark, and it may destroy some user data. How sweet. Are you sure it's safe? To be honest, I don't like the idea of putting my data and possible hard-reset into risk, so maybe some volunteer with freshly unboxed Kaiser could get up for it?

You could just leaved it plugged in to the USB charger.
Of course, the benchmark is useless without also benchmarking other systems such as the Tytn, etc...

Did you hard spl or sspl? i curious if other people who originally could use tomtom can't reinstall once their spl changes. (i could experiment with mine, but i'm waiting until i have a reason to "fix what ain't broke")
I ran into this as well. When looking inside the .cab, it seems that there are specific models listed in the security file. I think it could be that the name of the device identifier was changed so the cingular branded version could not install the .cab
just my guess...

I used Pof's Hard SPL to load the HTC ROM.
To test, I installed the Hard SPL on my 4550 and the Kaiser OEM TomTom still works. I did not try to reinstall mind you, just see if it still worked.

Thanks for the update. But when you say "will work fine" did you actually try it or is it an assumption?
The link I've posted for RK is the latest 6.03 regular install not the taster version. So let's see whether he can get it going.

Meaning that by installing HardSPL prevents the installation?
In that case, no. I tried installing it on the stock ATT ROM prior to HardSPL with the same results.
As the error states, it's the device ID that seems to be at issue. Narrowing down exactly what TomTom is looking for and "adjusting" it accordingly certainlly seems to be the solution.

I already had the maps that I bought a year ago.
I'm trying to give TomTom some love since I can't get my Garmin Mobile XT to work with the onboard GPS, but I can't get a map to try it out. Site is still down. Not very good timing on their part. If I can't get a test map in the next few days, I'll be looking elsewhere.
ok, so the 6.03 installs on the Tilt, but doesnt really mean anything because it doesnt read internal GPS, and I tried the 6.032 version, but of course it tells me to "update ROM" (thanks AT&T and/or TomTom)...does anyone have the 6.032 version that isnt restricted and will install on the Tilt? I looked around and doesnt look like anyone has posted it...
cabinet files would be especially helpful (if they exist for 6.032)
Just upgraded my phone from Treo 750 to the New AT&T Tilt. It is a new company phone fresh out of the box with a 4gb memory card.
I turn to you for guidance on how to get the most out of this phone.
What are the must haves?
What Rom and Radio?
etc
Thanks in advance.
you need to hardspl your phone first, and then you can start flashing. there's a few different rom available, and everyone has their own preferences. my advise, read read read, and then read some more.
Well, i must say you came to the right place. But you're asking the wrong question my friend. All i can say to you is READ. You will learn there is soo much info on this site that it will take you at least a month to narrow down your own decisions on what you want/need. Everyone on here has a different preferance for what they want/need. I'm not going to flame you, because you don't deserve it . . . . YET Just do what we all do and have been doing ever since we came in contact with our 8125/8525/8925 . . . . READ. Start with the Wiki, and then start reading up around the forums as for what is avalible for you to @#$% around with. Have fun, and trust me , YOU WILL!!!
Welcome!
Read... and read some more. It's really a matter of taste. I'd start simple with things that won't break your phone, but once you find out how to flash that won't last long. If you don't want to flash I recommend pulling your battery before the device customization on first boot. If you've already passed the point you can hard-reset by pushing both soft keys and resetting with the stylus. Pull your battery when your device says "Device will customize in 3 seconds..." and all of the ATT bloatware will be gone!
Just a few things to remember.

Phone is awesome. Yeah it does have a big drawback in the 3D rendering department, but, hopefully, we will solve this in future somehow. Besides, there's no perfect phone.
I just wanted to recommend u to try out iGo MyWay Plus 2006 for GPS software. I think it's the best, and I've tried many.
Definitely install KaiserTweak.. and if you're into games, I'd recommend games by company called MoreGames, they have some awesome stuff.

What about iGO 2007?
Must have freeware and apps (for me anyway) with no flashing
Google maps
Windows live
PCM keyboard
HTC Enlarge Start Menu
IE Slow scroll fix
Mini opera and Opera mobile
TCPMP (with plugins such as Flv and WMV plugin)
HTC Dialer
Duttythroy 1 calc
I personally prefer to keep the natural look of my MDA Vario III but do like some of the apps originally found on the cooked ROM's

I'll be in your position soon. Getting Tilt within next two weeks. I've already been reading trying to catch up and focus on wants/needs. I love the I phone look alikes, but so many to choose from...need the best close to Iphone theme. lol!
I use TouchPal for my one handed keyboard. Love it, but it took some getting used to.
I still often pop out the keyboard since I moved my instant messaging entirely to my phone and sometimes will have long conversations. I also flip open the keyboard when taking notes and whatnot.

Anyone know if Trinity can have TFLO working on it?
I imagine it would need a ROM upgrade. Anyone done this? Is it recommended?
I use my device a lot now in the car for satnav, so I'm looking for a way to make it as "finger" useable as possible.
Any other recommendations to make my Trinity finger friendly, I'd be most grateful. I already have spb mobile shell, which helps, but the scrolling feature doesn't work (which as far as I have read is a common problem with HTC phones).
Thanks,
Mattster.
Touchflo certainly does work on the Trinity.
I have flashed my Dopod D810 with Akeo's black 6.1 ROM and it has Touchflo.
I works well from what I could tell. I don't use it, preferring to use the stylus for a lot of things.
The ROM is very very good and well worth trying.

Hi Andych,
Thanks for the advice.
I tried that ROM (first time I've ever changed the ROM!) but it was way too complicated looking for my tastes. Gave me a chance to see what I was missing though, so thanks!
I'm boringly happy with my spb software. Simple but very practical, and that's what I need.
I did have to find a new ROM though, so I settled on "MARY v3.7 Super Lite" which has actually sorted an issue I had with the Today screen flashing up mid program.
BUT!!!!! I lost my Tomtom subscription to Speed Cameras AND my John Cleese Voice!!!
Is it true then that everytime you cahnge a ROM the device number changes, and therefore you lose e.g. Tomtom software that is reistered to the old device???
Hmm.... me thinks I should look that up in the forum later as all Tomtom said I could do was set up a new Tomtom account with the new device number and buy the software again! Damn!!!

SPB Mobile Shell does not have finger-scrolling, only animatin to swap screens. You need SPB Pocket Plus 4 for that.
Touch Flo and all variations are available in a lot of roms here in the Trinity forum. You should have read/searched a bit before asking this question, because there are already a lot of topics on this.
Good luck with the rom!

It's not the version on the Cruise CD, mate. it's tomtom 6.032, the latest one. I'm not sure, but I think you can extract the tomtom directories from your cruise to your diamond
I'm running Garmin Mobile XT (latest version) on my Diamond and it's excellent. Very smooth and rich interface
there is a supposed tomtom7(check athena mobile 6 forums). though that is not the true tt7. the real one is under beta. and it also has a different look(not that much different though) than any of the ones out there now.
