I am currently testing the guide mentioned in "Development and Hacking" for upgrading your .NET Compact Framework from 2.0 to 3.5. I am testing it on C_Shekhar's WM6.1 ROM. It has installed and I have changed the settings but cannot notice any speed boost by eye just yet. I haven't benchmarked it and probably won't. It doesn't appear to be any slower as the current Shekhar rom is amazingly fast already.
I will test it overnight (it is 3pm in Australia at time of posting) and let people know how it goes.
Does anybody know what the benefits of the new compact framework are?
Can they be used with our roms? (I guess I'll find out soon!)
If it can, and it is a benefit to have it, is there a way to remove the old 2.0 framework?
Anyway, the thread is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=373721
EDIT1: Bah humbug, apparently I am unable to uninstall the previous CF 2.0, so it won't make much of a difference being able to use this one over the top. It can probably be used to speed up a clean rom, that doesn't come with CF 2.0, unless it is somehow cooked into the new WM6.1.
Afaik .Net CF 3.0 is part of WM 6.1 and therefore .Net CF 1.0 and 2.0 are included as well.

Hi Sascha,
I think you will find, if you follow the steps to look at your current version in the registry, the version that comes with C_Shekhar's WM6.1 ROM is in fact the .NET CF 2.0 version still. That is what I found on my version (the new B version of the WM6.1 ROM).

Hi all,
What are the differences between the different WM5 releases (Helmi, Logout, Midgets, TuMa, ArtZ IVAN)?
I'm new with the WM5 for BA, and I'm not sure what image/version should I use.
Thanks
Use helmi's.
Yes use Hemli.
yep, ATM Helmi's relases are the best.
Just decide between AKU 2.6 and 3.2 one.
Hi,
As I see Helmi's should be the best release (even though I don't know why).
So what are the differences between 2.6 and 3.2 releases?
Is only bug fixes and patches?
Thanks
Helmis releases are the most new ones, so i advice you to use them, or if you are experienced you can try to build custom rom using bepe's wm5 kitchen

they are identical in terms of bug fixes etc, the only difference is the core OS portion of the ROM. AKU 3.2 is the newest and contains a few new features but the PIM management is different and programs like MS voice command and PIM management apps dont work, this is why the AKU 2.6 was made, for compatability with these apps.

Helmi's are the most recent and incorperate some recent revelations by the folks here that have greatly improved the performance of the phone. You picked a good time to drop in...
2.6 and 3.2 refer to the actual internal revision of windows mobile 5. Think of them as service packs. 3.2 is newer and in theory should have less bugs*, but there are incompatibilities with some software such as one of the voice commanders.
* I work in software and even I am laughing at my own statement!
It seems that many programs crash asking for .Net cf 2.0 but my Wing comes with it from the factory (WM6.) To make it worse, if I try to install it, I get an error that a newer version was found already installed and the install aborts.
I wasn't even aware that you could install/upgrade .NET on your PPC...

Compact Framework, not the desktop version.
I had the same problem as you... and it was "fixed" when I went with the PDAVIET rom.
Theres a 3.5 BETA CF installation out there... see if that will help?

Thanks! I tried the 3.5 and it helped with SOME of the programs but not all...
Does the Wing have to be unlocked to run the PDAVIET rom? My wing is starting to slow down a lot and I hate having to do so much configuring just to make the stock tmobile rom to be somewhat usable.
I had the same problem with CF 2, and since it's built into WM6, there's nothing that can be done.
Regarding being able to install a new rom, The author who coded the program that allowed me to install PDAVIET v14 on my Wing is currently working on releasing the tool that will allow installation on the Wing.
Apparently the PDAVIET roms ... V15 and V14 are totally different. Because v15 is based on HTC or Dopod ship rom and v14 is based on T-mobile rom... so that's why some people are able to install the 15, but not the 14.
This is being worked on as we speak, and will hopefully be out soon.
And I see he just let you release it!! Awesome! I'm going to do this as soon as I get home. ^_^
So, which one runs better? The 14 or the 15? (And can I install either one with that tool?)

Expectations
Another Vanilla and this time 6.5... very exciting... if it's from kwbr it's going to be a good one...
I'm waiting for this rom so far.
Thanks for the release.
I hope kwbr is using a version of touchflo which resolves the bluetooth AVRCP issues, where it doesn't keep opening windows media player. It appears only the older 2.1 releases are bug free, such as the version Kwbr used in his Topix 3.0 release... I'll keep my fingers crossed...
can we get any info about versions of softwares included, ram usage and screenshots... tht be nice
great work, I've been after a Rhodium vanilla series for a while
Thanks
I think I have found the ROM I didn't even know I was looking for
Thanks kwbr, this ROM hits the spot. Seems smooth and stable and complete, not like the other ROMs out there chasing the latest builds of everything bringing in the latest bugs with everything too!
I don't think Manila 2.5 (especially the landscape images and music tabs) will ever work well on the HD because the HD2 has better spec's... so it's good to get the best of what is out there for similar spec' phones and port it to the HD. Nice one.
How to changed the default wallpaper from purplish to black? Because the clock transparency is too high and makes it like a grey ulgy patch.
Can someone please post some picks.
I wanted to know if someone has , or knows of an untouched version of a WM6.5 rom for the Viva, similar to the wm6.1 that comes with the phone,at least in terms of installed stock programs, since I've tried every ROM available, but the most of them, doesn't have the phone pad with t9 in spanish, nor any of the standard keyboards and since I use spanish as my native language, I really need it.
And many of the available ROMS has too many tweaks that affect battery life, or some bugs that cannot allow the volume rocker to be locked, to mention some bugs.. I'd love to to cook a rom for my viva, if I knew how to do it, but since I don't know...
Thanks, pals!
Frank.
I think Jagan's Evolution Ultimate Beta is what you're looking for. It's not customized, and it's pure and light, and doesn't have any of the bugs you mentioned. You can flash it and customize it to your liking.
It doesn't have a Spanish keyboard, but you could use the original EzInput 1.5 keyboard (the same one as the stock 6.1 ROM). It has Spanish support with T9 too.
Download it from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426281
CAUTION: The EzInput version 2 might cause some problems on WM6.5 so I recommend you install the older version 1.5 only!
You could also try FingerKeyboard which provides support for many languages including Spanish. Get it from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501434
Good luck.
Ok, I've tried it, and I can't get to work Manila 2d & EZinput on it... any hints? Since I've already downloaded the Cab's but it doesn't work at all...
Try downloading this cab:
http://www.4shared.com/file/YW2_fEqG/BJK_HTC_EzInput_QVGA_EN_FR_DE_.html
It works for me, and I can switch languages and other keyboards. But make sure you uninstall all the previous keyboards before trying this cab.
As for Manila 2D, try the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=541750
Carefully follow the instructions there to make it work on your device. Other users have tried it and it works for them. I didn't try it myself because I'm using SPB Mobile Shell instead of Manila 2D so I don't know if it's going to work with you or not.
In case it doesn't work, why don't you try flashing the Evo 2.5A ROM?
Thanks for the support, GFX! I've finally got all to work! I've used the tools you posted on your first reply, for some reason I couldn't do it before.. strange.. All worked out like a charm after a 2nd reflash...weird, huh? Well, I appreciate your effort, thanks a lot!
Frank.

You're welcome!
Glad it worked out with you.
Enjoy your Viva..
Well,I'll give some feedback:
After some testing, tweaking, hard-resetting and so, I decided to give up TOUCHFlo,and stick to WM6.5's normal gui, since it Manila doesn't work well on wm6.5 viva, manila 2d 2.0 after full installing, it becames too heavy for the phone, it gives ~35mb of free memory, manila 2d 1.2 has better performance, around ~70mb of free memory, but is a beta and it's not complete, since many of the tabs don't work.
I've tried almost any WM6.5 rom posted here, and in other forums, like the PhamQuang ones (from V21 to V27), the older evolution series (Evo,Evo+,Evo ESN,Evo2, Evo2.5A), Angel Azul, Angel negro, and some others I don't remember. This is the most stable rom that I've tested, it's fast, almost bugless, and clean, GFX was right. I totally recommend it.
By the way, which UI do you use? I want some fast & lightweight one.

Happy Thanksgiving guys! Been thankful for the helpful tips and tricks with my lovely X1 I bought last year's Black Friday event!
Quick question.
How do I get Cookie's Home Tab to work on my Win6.1 platform? I read on that you need Manila or Sense 2.5, any download links for those will help. Search function, yes, but I dont know which one pertaining to 6.1!
Thanks in advance
Maybe I'm wrong but I guess you'll need to flash another ROM incl. Sense... AFAIK Sense is not available as "installable application".
1. hardSPL
2. download new ROM (e.g. Energy ROM, see link in my signature)
3. flash from SD (instructions here)
^Thanks, just got it done yesterday. Installed Valkyrie rom, but it came with outdated 1.8 ver. instead of 2.0 D:
Valkyrie is a bit dead rom meaning that agent is developing only if major updates take place. I was ex-valkyrie-fun. However I believe that he has released a rom with cht2 (at least beta version).
why dont u try energy rom? it has for sure what you need...

I switched from Valkyrie to 826x. 826x had no additional add-ons, just the ROM upgrade, so it was really convenient to switch. Now running CHT + Editor 2.0.0.
Still trying to get use to the low battery fluctuations compared to a Stock ROM, but loving the new interface and programs it can run now!
