I know there is an option somewhere in the settings to have your phone not check for timezones and update time. I know this will also keep ActiveSync from being constantly on. Can someone please help me re-locate this? I swear I've gone through every menu I can on my phone and I can't find it anywhere.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Go to \Settings..\Phone, there should be a tab "Time Zones". Uncheck "Automatic change time zone and clock".
If you don't have this tab, then you need to use an Advanced Config tool to 'show' the page(tab).
Check out this thread here. The posting is a bit old, but may have some helpful info.

Hi Folks,
Firstly the standard disclaimer: "Apologies to all but I have searched existing threads (and RTFM) and can't find a definitive answer to this noob-type question"
So here's why I'm feeling stupid. I can't seem to find an option to stop the weather updating except when connected to a PC, short of going into settings and manually ticking the upper box whenever I plug in the USB and unticking afterwards!
Data costs a lot on my tarriff but I lik ethe weather, even if it only updates via AS.
Grateful for any advcie as always folks.
Adam.
Same problem here, it's one of the main reasons why I don't use Touchflo. Everytime I just click on the weather page an error dialog appears (can't connect... blabla). Very annoying!
it is not only a noob question, but the answer is so easy that you should be ashamed of yourself and spent some time just looking at your phone.
ever heard of a thing called menu?
it is on the lower right in the weather tab. press it, a menu comes up, choose settings and you are done.
or...... go to the store an get a nokia.
Hi i have set my Diamond to check my email every 30mins but it does not turn off the GPRS once its checked it. is there a software or tweak that will allow me to do this.
Blumin COSTLY!!!!
Use SchapĀ“s Advanced Config to select a timeout for an idle data connection (amongst so many other things/tweaks.....)....
Sorry can you show step by step where to config the timeout?
THX in advance.
Thanks for the reply i used schaps but it does not state a time out period.
From anywhere in the application go down to bottom right hand side and tap menu
then go to connection settings, there you should see a box with Disconnect after and a selection of timings. Hope this helps.
Hi,
and thanks for your help...I supposed it could be the right setting, but I thought that by doing it, it will stop any kind of data connection, even if I'm on the web. I mean it should stop data connection anyway according to the setting...no metter if system is checking for new mail or I'm with safari on the web...
I think that it will only stop data connection if there is no action for xxx minutes, ie if there is no information being transferred. So, if you are actively browsing or downloading email or whatever, then it won't shut the connection down.
Well...tested and it worked...at least for mail chaking...now I have to test it with safari on...
Thanx a lot again!

Recently, my phone won't automatically retrieve my emails from the Exchange server. I have everything set correctly (including schedule and to receive every 5 min) but I have to manually retrieve my email. Also, I noticed that Activesync is not running. Isn't that required for Outlook email to function correctly. If I load Active sync and click sync, it loads new email. However, once I navigate away from Activesync, it does not show up in Task Manager.
Currently using Romeos' latest ROM but the issue is the same with other ROMS. I've retrieved my email on my phone for three years and have loaded many ROMS, so I'm 100% confident I'm setting up everything correctly.
yes you need active sync open to recive email. when you navigate away are you clicking the close at the top right (the x) if so check your settings in task manager
start > Settings > system tab > task manager > button tab > make sure 'end programs by tapping x' is not ticked if it choose the other option and problem solved.
Same here... No solution yet...

I have the same issue... Taskmanager is configured correctly, AS is configured correctly, but still;no automatic sync... However, it does work when I have the "as items arrive" configured. I want my battery to last as long as possible, so I don't really like this workaround...
Any ideas?

Thanks for the advice but my Task Manager is set to close apps by 'holding x'. Besides, even if I press the home key, Activesync disappears (i.e., it is no longer shown running in task manager).
Please post the required information when asking for help. Have you searched active sync? If you have you would have seen 100's of threads and post concerning it. What build of Rom are you using or is the chef using? there is a well documented problem with some of the builds and data connections and or active sync issues. Did you see those post? Have you tried flashing an older ROM to see if the active sync issues are gone?
Finally, this information should have been addressed in the thread where you got the ROM (Romeos). If no one else is having the issue in there, then it must be some other application you installed or your IT department has set up some new security procedures. I have posted a fix to the active sync issue in three threads if yours is in deed the same. One is a cab the other is aregistry edit. It has worked for some. You should search for it and you will find it.
Search
Yes, I searched (here and Google) and didn't find anything. I posted in the ROMeo thread with no luck. I always attempt to find info before I ask. You could have been a little nicer and posted your threads which present a fix. Have you "ever" asked a question and was told to go search. Does it really even matter? Why does it bother you so much?
And
I even attempted a search for posts by 'you' concerning 'active sync' and got nothing related. The vBulletin message board is not one of the more friendly boards to search. Most of the time it is like finding a needle in a haystack. The returned results are usually numerous, provide links which have nothing to do with the keyword searched. Most people don't have time to filter through 1000 messages to find an answer.
Test (of many): I did a search on outlook, email, automatic, http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=21868332
The result I got is one link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444784&highlight=outlook+email+automatic
No where on this page is the word 'Outlook', 'email' or 'automatic'. The word 'automatically' exists. This is how flawed vBulletin search is. And you wonder why people ask the same questions again.

In the wiki it tells you to search via google and have it search XDA for the information. Here is the link to Google...

Thanks you for editing your post from what I first read this morning....since you changed it look here...There is an issue with some of the newest builds that Chefs are using...the 21018 is just one of the builds having problems...

This is starters....there was a cab posted in those threads please read search the threads you will find the cab,...However, as stated before it doesnt work perfect....the best thing to do is to switch roms...most chefs have done this including NRG and RRE....try one of those ROMS they changed their builds..
Great

Search the forums for "network wizard"
When connecting to a PC, the Diamond asks what you would like to do through a pop-up window. It also allows you to select a check box that says do not ask again or something like that. I checked that box by mistake and was wondering what the registry value was to make it ask again, because now I am limited to just accessing my storage card from my PC. Thanks for any help in advance!
Sorry guys. Found the solution in the forums. Just had to use the right search terms. I can't figure out how to delete my post. I'll leave it to the mods. Thanks.
