I'm having a problem with the Garmin app, latest version from their website. If I use the Garmin BT then after around 1 minute the XDAII just soft resets by itself. No warning.
Anyone got any clues? I can't use the serial port method because COM4, where I have the HOLUX GPS, does not turn up in their list.
This problem was not experienced with Shekhar AKU7.0b WM6 ROM. I'm using the Syed Ather WM6.1 rom.
Any takers?
Cheers.
I have had the exact same issue with TomTom 6 and WM6 and WM6.1. The bug is actually in the bluetooth software as I understand it. I solved it by pairing my GPS device (navman) with my Himalaya first. After this, I made sure to choose the advanced option which will give you the choice of choosing the serial connection and then which port you want to use. I always choose Com 5 as this seems to work fastest, most stable etc. After this, you then leave bluetooth on and in discoverable mode.
After this, load up your software. The correct com port should then appear in the list of possible com ports for you to choose from (Com 5). After that, all should be well with the world.
The reset seems to be caused when your device looks for a device on the incorrect com port. Why this would happen? no idea.
Good luck, keep us informed of how it goes.
Thanks for getting back to me.
I changed the com port of the GPS to COM5 and we're all sweet. I had it on COM4 previously and it really didn't like that. The only time it reboots now is when the GPS dongle is switched off or the battery goes flat. But that's better than before.
Thanks for your help.

I recently upgtraded my wizard to the clubimate 2.16.9.1 rom. Everything appears to be fine except one issue (ok two that battery is anoying ) at one point before and I dont know if it was with this rom or the stock tmobile rom from last december, but I had 2 programs accessing my gps without a problem. Now however I do not seem to be able to make that happen.
I have paired my bluetooth gps on com 6. I then went into the gps manager (which I enabled) and told it to use com8 for programs and com6 for the gps. Manage gps automatically is selected.
Any device that connects on the software port gets an error saying the port is not available. Any program that connects directly to the gps port works. Its as if the gps redirection stuff isnt actually working. If two programs try to use the same real port for the gps stuff they will fight each other and both lose data.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have a solution?
I am about out of ideas on this ...
Got exactly the same problem with TT5...
I have the same problem.
I have my Holux GPSlim236 attached via Bluetooth to COM6. WiFiFoFum2 sees it just fine on COM6, so I know the device is working and sending data to my Wizard...
Under the GPS icon on the Control Panel, I have set the hardware port to COM6, the program port to COM8, and the "Manage GPS automatically" box checked.
If I'm understanding right, all programs should then be able to talk to COM8 and get GPS data. I even soft-rebooted to make sure my settings were saved, but WiFiFoFum2 still cannot open COM8 at all!
I've been messing with this all night to no avail.
rreinink and trixter, what GPS unit are you using? I wonder if it's a problem with the GPSlim? Though I don't see how, as it works fine directly, just not through WM5.0's GPS Intermediate Driver layer. Is it maybe a bug with GPSID?

I had a similar problem with my Atom and couldn't get the GPS to connect properly when running Destinator. The best solution that I have found so far is a program called GPS Gate - it basically does what the WM5 GPS Manager SHOULD do, except GPS Gate actually works (at least it has for me - I have had no problems using my PPC with the bluetooth GPS and Destinator PN). You can download a trial version (and then purchase if you want to) at:
http://franson.com/gpsgate/download.asp?file=GpsGatePPC.zip&ok=1
Hope this helps.
Hi, i work everyday yesterday and today trying to make the destinator 6 work,
I use the duttýs feb.08 rom and radio i also try a lot, i am using now, the 1.58.21.23 NIKI
The problem is i can found the Gps port with destination configurations on COM4, 115200 , NMEA but WHEN I PUT IN THE SCREEN TO FIND THE GPS POSITIONS, I READ A MESSAGE " GPS ANTENNA NOT FOUND"
I only make it work emulating the gps position with FRASON GPSGATE .
I think the problem is the time or delay of antennas, what ca i do?
NOTE: AFTER A DESINSTALL THE FRASON GPS GATE I DO A HARD RESET.

Anyone have any news?
Flavio,
I installed destinator 6.1 and I'm having the same problem. It finds the GPs and keep changing from " GPS Antenna found" and "GPS Antenna not found" in each 2 seconds.
Is it the same problem that you are having?
I'm using Confused Stu's Windows Vista 1.3 Cooked Rom with Radio Ver 1.65.14.06 and Destinator 6 works perfectly
C
I'm using Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2 5.2.19716/5.2.19700
Destinator 7 work fine (downloaded a trial version) but id doesn`t have the language that I need, so I rather use Destinator 6.
Tried several versions of this ROM (Cube, no Cube and lite) and in everyone the same thing happens: It keep changing from "GPS Antenna found" "GPS Antenna nof found" every 3 seconds.
I think I gonna try one WM6.0 ROM to see if it works. I'll try Sleuth 1.2 first, than Confused Stu's Windows Vista 1.3 Cooked Rom.
Thanks
Try 6.0 NOT 6.1
Hi everyone,
This is my first post here and I would like to share my experience with the WM6.1 update and Destinator. I had been using an Asus n30 and for that to work I had to install Destinator 6.1.1 otherwise it would loose GPS etc. When I tried the same 6.1.1 update on my Kaiser (Vodafone version) with WM6.0 it worked basically but when I drove at higher speeds above 140-160 km/h (here in Germany this is quite a normal speed on the highway) the display would freeze and stop updating and I would no longer get voice instructions from Destinator.
So I had the crazy idea to update to WM6.1 to fix this...Big mistake...at first
Well as you have also found out it made things worse and I got the "GPS Antenna not Connected" issue.
I was able to solve my problem after a lot of tinkering with different radios and two ROM images one from Vodafone UK (3.28) and the last ROM posted from Dutty - which I am using now great stuff! both are WM6.1. What helped solve the problem was to revert back to Destinator 6.0 i.e. the original version from the CD-Rom that I had bought. After deleting the 6.1.1 version and installing 6.0 everything was fine no more "GPS antenna not connected" and no more freezes even when driving at over 200 km/h (130 Mph).
My guess is that the 6.1.1 update was optimized for slower devices like my n30 but the measures taken in that update that made slower PDAs work with WM3 SE were counter productive under a more modern OS like WM6.x
Even though this took me 3 days and a lot of head scratching to figure out I am very happy I did go through this process. Now thanks to this great community I have learned to flash Hard SPLs, change my ROMs as I please and as a result I have a much more powerful Kaiser . All of this despite what the lady at the Vodafone hotline told e "you can not use an update from the UK...or from HTC" ha ha .
I hope this may help some of the other users who have destinator 6 trouble.
Cheers

Kaiser Problems
i have an htc 8900 series(its called the ATT tilt in the States, i think its called the Kaiser everywhere else) and i'm having problems with WM6 and desitnator 6. i installed it as instructed and when i try to open the program it seems like it tries to open it, but nothing happens and i get taken back to the today screen. i've even uninstalled the program and sent all the installation files from my ASUS 696 via bluetooth to my phone's card, but that didn't work either. Dest 6 works perfectly on the ASUS.
On my phone, GPS settings are Program port Com4, GPS hardware port (none), baud rate 4800. And the phone will not let me change the baud rate or the hardward port. It doesnt' save my changes. ANy help is appreciated.
Thanks
My device was working find with regards to GPS usage. I had to do a hard reset for some other issues. Now I can't get the GPS to work with TomTom or any other program where you specify the Com port.
Programs that work:
Live Search - Setting Windows Managed GPS Intermediate Driver
RunGps - Setting Windows Managed if you ask the program to find the port it will not find one. (Great Program)
Programs that don't work:
TomTom - Can't find the GPS whether I choose Internal or Other NMEA
GPS Test - Never finds the GPS
Any suggestions? Not really in the mood to do another hard reset but if folks think that will help I will try it. I have searched the forums and haven't found any specific answers to this.
This is an AT&T Tilt with the stock rom latest version from AT&T. No other modifications. I am not afraid to try editing the registry if need be.
Thanks,
Chris

Nope. I have Live Search and RunGPS. Neither program has ever interfered with TomTom. Seems like something has gone wrong with the com port that the internal gps uses.
After a hard reset your first lock will take a little longer. How long have you left tomtom running to be able to get a lock? It might say no gps device for a goot 10 min before it locks on.
Also when you start up tomtom is the orange light blinking?

No lights. Running for 20 min and still can't find the device when set to internal gps. Thanks for the info though it was worth a try.
I have TomTom 6 and it is set to "Other BlueTooth GPS receiver" and Com4.
In Windows Mobile, Start, Settings, System tab, External GPS, Program port is Com4, GPS hardware port is (none), Baud 4800.

That didn't work either. I am going to do another hard reset this weekend and see what happens. I will install TomTom before anything else.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I gave up and did a hard reset. First thing I installed was TomTom. It now appears to work as previously. Not sure what took out the com port but now all is well.
live searh????
hi i upgraded my phones operating sistem or i shal say someone else did it for me other wise i would be able to figure this out my self. i cant get livesearch to run in the new windows mobile 6.1 why???? any one? any one????
Hi all, yesterday i've changed the "external gps settings":
COM8 For virtual GPS port and COM 4 as Hardware GPS port, baud 9600.
Today i was using my GPS the first time after the settings descripted before...
The GPS Works, but at regular intervals of 2 sec, then stops for 10 sec (No GPS Found with Tomtom) and works again.....
Now i have 3 questions:
1) Can i solve this WITHOUT an Hard Reset??
2) If i disable the Virtual com port, tomtom DON'T let me choose another COMport (it skips the Comport configuration page) and, when it allows me to select the right port, the COM4 isn't there
3) There are A LOT of comport into "External GPS Settings", some starting with COM..X and others ports named GPD..X ..... What type of ports are??
(Ps: i have already installed tomtom again)
Did you try to disable AGPS?
I have only seen this problem when AGPS is enabled (via advanced config) too
Also the defualt GPS COM ports is 4 and baud rate of 4800 (should be no need to change this) and why mess with external GPS settings when the device has internal GPS?
I have same problem on iGO8 with AGPS enabled.
You guys are right! The A-GPS was ON (strange, i don't remember i've activated it)
If i play with the external gps app is because i would to share the same com port to 2 gps apps.....
BTW when i set the com4 in Hardware port, reopening the app it disappear.
Now i have Agps disabled, External gps app "void" and tomtom don't let me choose the comport (it switch from baud speed to mainscreen)
Hmm, I had no problem at all using GPS at standard settings for:
Igo
TrackMe
GoogleMaps
at the same time!

diamond has disabled agps out of the box.
Hmmm I had no problems the first couple of times I tried iGo when I first got the device. Then I tweaked it, enabled AGPS and all hell broke loose (presumably due to this setting, though not 100% sure since I changed lots of things). Disabled it on my own, trying to back-track, now it's better but I still got problems with GPS lost...
By the way, is there any use setting COM4 to high speeds? Does it reall improve performance?
I had the same problem after flashing the actual rom build from HTC club. I am currently sticking to this one in italian and no problem at all.
P.S.: Just noticed you're from my same city
All ok now, i suppose that if we leave blank the GPS port (no HW port) into first COM screen of external gps app, tomtom skip the comport settings screen, and don't allow you to choose another one.
I've Hardresetted my pda yesterday, and i've seen that out of the box, the diamond has COM4 selected by default.
I don't want to change anything now (i have no time in those days to do another Hard reset) BUT, if you have problems regarding the GPS COM Settings screen in tomtom, try to set the COM4 into GPS PORT (not hardware port) of the "External Gps" app.
hello everyone
i have the same problem of signal GPS lost and coming back after a few minutes of use (i use IGO 8), then lose again, then back again, and so on.
I installed the new flash rom from HTC eclub, (QMR-RUU_Diamond_HTC_FRA_1.93.406.1_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.exe)
Even if i disable the a-gps using advance config, the problem is still there.
Do you think that problem comes from that new HTC ROM ?
Any solutions?
NO... I had the same problem on old ROM very rarely and solved with Quick GPS , I will see if the problem persist on new ROM...
I had this disconnecting problem too with Tomtom 7,
now with Bepe 0.98 and radio Radio v1.00.25.07, all is OK, no disconnect at all this morning ( 2 hours of GPS use ).
But I don't know what resolve the problem, Bepe's ROM or the new .07 radio
my diamond refuse to accept setting for hardware port and rate......

Never mind the setting. Is AGPS disabled?
yes its disabled...
A bit strange, mine works perfectly with iGo, it even updates the position (almost) continuously when in pedestrian mode.
Perhaps you could try an auto detect from your GPS program to reset the link. By the way, what soft are you using?
well im using garmin xt and navigon...garmin display that the program and hardware is com:4
thank u for being patient with me....
I know Garmin works on the Diamond, so I'm running out of ideas... I remember reading that some VOIP programs screw the GPS. Did you install any such program?
If not, what I would do is back up my contacts and calendar and do a hard reset to see if this solves the problem. A bit painful, but will certainly answer the question whether there is something wrong with your hardware or not.
well.. i have changed the rom to karmba version, and it works fine for the last 6 hours..
gps functioning well.
may be the fault was in my previous rom (SwiftBL-WWE-Diamond-ROM-v5-5-Lite)
thank you very much for your help
Hello all,
My GPS was working just fine with several applications like GPSed, the 'new' experia camera with geotagging and so on. Recently I installed CoPilot Live 8 and now wm is not allocating the right port to be used for GPS. Sometimes it just activates my bluetooth. I reset my device to its manufacturer defaults, but still it's not very stable. I also opened a ticket with ALK (CoPilot) support, but I'm hoping that someone has a tip on how I can restore wm. If I let wm manage my GPS settings, most appliactions, do not get the GPS signals. Google maps seems actually be the only one still working, meaning my GPS is not physically broken.
Is there any way I can tweak wm6.1 again so that it will find the correct comport to use for the GPS?
Hope anyone can help as this is quite annoying.
Thanks in advance,
Dan.
There is setting for that. It's called External GPS.
You can set which comport will internal GPS use there too, it's the first page.
Also each GPS application should at least have settings for selection the com port. Some even support native WM api.
Thanks
Thanks for your reply.
I tried that and GPS should be working on com4, but still I got issues with some applications I didn't use to have (gps related).
I will try to seek if there is another com port wich will work fine for all app's.
I was hoping I could keep it as being 'managed' by wm.
Thanks again for your reply!
Dan.
I don't understand that well too .. anyway here is my theory.
Managed by windows may mean two things.
1) Special treatment of com port. Normally only one application can use one com port. And you sometimes want to use more apps form GPS at once. So this specially handles the com port of GPS so it is available multiple times. You can turn this on on third tab of the GPS settings app mentioned above.
2) Using WM driver for GPS, not com port. There is something like that, Google maps can use port or 'windows managed', also Garmin software has either com or 'GPS intermediate driver'. Anyway this is set on application side. When you use this, no com port matters. However if you use com port, it must be the same number as preset on GPS settings, standard is com 4.
There are also other problem with GPS. Try this app:
http://www.chartcross.co.uk/products/WM00002_details.asp
It's simple GPS tester. Try that first, it finds the port and baud-rate of com connected GPS.
Also sometimes GPS does not work in any program, and it can be fixed by forcing re-download of Quick GPS data. Once I had situation where GPS kept loosing signal every 5 seconds, and forced re-download fixed it. So the Quick GPS data can get somehow bad, and it may cause problems too.
