I have 2 Internet APNs and would like to know how i can configure it to change automatically depnding on the whether it is roaming or not.
thanks in advance
So i bought the Note. Wife gave me skyrocket for xmas, put the sim in the note, and put the exact apn from skyrocket into the note (manually of course). Internet now is spotty at best, sometoimes speed test will say no connection, at best it'll show DL speed 1.5MB/sec....any ideas? Ive tried the wap.cingular APN, phone APN, all with very inconsistant results. I heard rumor that the new ptn apn is new and has 'kinks' in it?? Bottom Q is : which APN setting should i use!!??
thx
I had an infuse 4g and I used both the Phone APN for my internet and the wap.cingular APN for my MMS. Make sure your fast dormancy type *#*#9900#*#* using the dialer. A menu will pop open and near the bottom there will be an option to turn fast dormancy off.

I'll link the topic that I found it in it does a better job of explaining things
just wonder what the ptn apn means. the skyrocket is an LTE phone and uses the pta apn. I am using the Pta apn with no problems but just remember that some areas fall back on gsm service so check to see if network mode is set to auto or wcdma. switch to auto allows the phone to shift to 3g when HSPA is not availble.
For the Note, just use the Phone and wap.cingular APN's. PTA is for LTE only.
So I recently bought a new Galaxy Note 3 T-mobile variant on craigslist to use on my AT&T plan. The phone is perfect, I love it! The only problem is that I can't seem to connect to LTE after I unlocked it. I have already rooted the phone using CF Auto-root, and then I turned to unlocking it. I heard that the "Region Lock Away" app by chainfire removed the region lock as well as unlocked the sim, as long as you reboot later. So thats what I tried first rather then pay for an unlock code.
Now when I bought the Note 3, it didn't include the sim card from T-mobile. So I did the whole process of rooting and unlocking under my real att sim card that I was using with my Nokia lumia 920 (I know it was time to upgrade). I went to an ATT retail store, and I ended up talking to a service rep and explained that I wanted to use my Galaxy note 3 on their network, and that I would be unlocking it when I got home. She convinced me to give them the IMEI number on the back of the phone to "provision the network to my phone".
Well after the Region Lock Away app did it's thing, I no longer had the sim card ask for an unlock code and I was able to text and make calls. So I figure that I was fully unlocked. But my data wasn't working, so after a bit of research here at XDA I noticed that I needed to change my apn settings. So i used these as suggested by another post:
NAME: ATT Phone
APN: phone
MMSC: http[colon]//mmsc.mobile.att[dot]net <-- XDA thinks I am posting a url!
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att[dot]net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri
After setting these, and then using them, I can't find any data connection at all. Can anyone shed some insight as to what may be the problem?
BTW: the legacy wap.cingular apn settings are working for me but I only get about 2 Mb/s max. Which is not what I want from an LTE phone obviously.
The only thing I noticed you did not mention is "authentication type", which needs to be manually set to None. I come to the note 3 from an AT&T galaxy s4. I was using a t-mobile custom rom on it the whole time, every time I reset the ROM I had to manually add APN settings, authentication type "none" always had to be selected along with the rest of the entries. If you don't manually set this it will read "not set".

Settings are right as I compared them with my phone. Only thing I can think of is the rep didn't configure your account right and LTE is not enabled. You can log onto your att.com and check to see if your sim has LTE activated. You would see something like DataPro 3GB for Smartphone 4G LTE or whatever amount of data checked on your line. If not your LTE is not active it won't work no matter what APN settings you use.
Edit; this is what authentication type should read instead of default "not set".

Thanks for the replies!! Well I went in to the att store, and spoke with the same person who switched my IMEI number into the system. Looks like two things happened, first my data plan was switched from a 3GB LTE data to a media plan which was causing me to recieve text messages complaining about my data usage and stating $200 charges. To remedy this we had to make a call to the dreaded at&t customer service center where my Rep. was put on hold for about 30 min (ridiculous...) and also the charges were removed. I also had her switch the IMEI to the Galaxy S3 that I previously used before I got the sudden death ****. So after all that, my data has finally connected and im getting about 7MB down which is still only HSPA+. So the only thing I have left to try is maybe some other APN settings (suggestions here????) or maybe try a new simcard and use the unlock code I have.

Searching for the AT&T APN setting led me to this thread.
After setting all the APN settings as others, I was still getting pretty slow connection speed.
Then, I switched the Bearer to "LTE" type and voila! I started getting the full LTE speed!

You can only do this if you know your in a LTE supported area otherwise you will not get any data if your in a 4g or H+ area with the bearer set to LTE only.

I find that no matter what settings I use on the APN (working ones, I mean), if I have Wifi on, I lose LTE. As soon as I disable Wifi, even if I don't move the phone, LTE comes back. Not that it matters, I just like seeing that little 4G LTE icon.
My guess is that your WiFi is set to take priority over mobile data. There might be a setting to change this though. For example in the WiFi settings there is a toggle that allows your phone to automatically switch between WiFi and mobile data, to have a seamless browsing experience.
I'm on lollipop running the Echoe ROM on my sm-n900t and I use the download booster to boost my speeds by using both together.
Greetings friends, someone will have problem with the data after leaving a WIFI network? I have to turn off mobile data to activate the 3G, this device does not mark H +. and searched information everywhere and I get nothing on this issue. please help!
i configured correctly APN, the problem is when I leave a WIFI network to network DATA, I have to put it in airplane mode, several times to grip the data network, I have a question? This phone does not mark H +? I appears in the device information HSPAP(H+), but only get the 3g icon.
Thank you

See screenshots at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/help/dual-sim-issues-t3426120
Icon labeled 4GLTE when LTE is connected, but just R (registered?) for HSPA+, whether connected or not.
Is data turned on at Settings/Data usage?
At Settings/More/Cellular networks/ is Preferred network type set to 3G/4G? Maybe it's looking for LTE.
Mine goes directly to whichever network data is turned on when I turn off wifi.
What kind of sim are you using?

Cellular data connection status doesn't show in the status bar. I'm using freedompop 3G for the moment. See the screenshot.

greetings, in my country is not available currently the 4g lte network, and put on 3G/4G, 2G only, 2G/3G/4G and 2G/3G/4G LTE and the problem continues, I have to put the airplane mode or restart cell to grab data.
the only solution I can find is put always active mobile data in programmer Options. but it consumes a lot of battery.

Always active seems to be the default. It's on in my phone and I never changed it.
In Settings/Battery is Standby intelligent power saving on? When on I get about 1.5% per hour standby.
The "R" is Roam I believe. You might want to look at your APN and Network Operator settings. If your phone is roaming, it is going to burn battery. Maybe try turning off Roaming?
When you go to Settings -> Battery and then tap the graph, and it will show you metrics in RYG for Cellular Network Signal, Wifi, Awake, etc. What does your "Cellular Network Signal" look like?
Freedompop roams on att and t mobile (it's a global sim card) I had the lg g4 before this and I was able to choose which I would be on, now if I try to manually connect all available networks are "freedompop" then it says roaming ("R") is status bar, on my g4 it would have an "H"
Any app to get more details on my options and what I'm connected to?

Thanks but that's not what I mean,
On other phones it was fine on the "BLU R1 HD" it only roams and I can't choose between att and TMO

What I'm trying to do is with the FREEDOMPOP sim card choose which the phone should roam on between att or TMO all I can choose from is a list of "FreedomPop" but it's not saying which is roaming on
(Other phones you can choose)
I believe one set is att and the other TMO but how can I know (see there are two sets, two of each 2g 3g 4g)
May I ask why it matters which one it roams on? i'd just turn of the advanced lte and not worry about if it was t-mobile or at&t it will pick the strongest signal and connect to it. but there apps that can help you figure out what network and who's your actually using.
Hi folks...
I set up my new Zenfone 8 to use as a WiFi hotspot. It doesn't work at all (I tried connecting with my computer, and with another phone, and I get no internet connectivity).
However, if I use my work's Samsung S20 or my old Sony XPeria XZ2 Compact, it works fine.
My work's on Verizon, my personal devices on AT&T.
The only things I can think are either:
1. There's a problem with the Zenfone 8 for use as a hotspot
2. AT&T is blocking that phone for use as a hotspot (tho' I don't know why they'd allow it on my XZ2 Compact - both are unlocked phones I didn't buy from AT&T)
Any ideas what might be going on here?
- Tim
I dont know if this is what happened to you, but I have to changed my hotspot password to WPA2 instead of using WPA3

Ok, just tried it. Also tried various other changes to WiFi Tethering settings.
Unfortunately, nothing ended up working.
I'll do my experiment using my old phone, and then, at worst, pay AT&T extra for the priviledge. :-(

Turn "Allowed devices only" off, if it's on - I needed net on my other phone because of a LAN network outage, and I just couldn't properly connect when this option was on.

Hi, Try following actions:
1. On all of your devices forget your hotspot network first
2. Setup hotspot without password first
3. Try to connect and test the connection
4. Once connection success, disconnect then change the security to WPA 2
5. Forget hotspot network again
6. Reconnect with WPA2 password
On my case somehow all of my devices need to forgot hotspot and re-setup hotspot. I don't know why but before forget and re-setup all my devices could connect but unable to browse internet
I use hotspot two days ago , i don't have time when i use it to find how connect with security so i disable security and it work fine
@hadi_rena @mick711 Unfortunately, none of these worked; I tried connecting to the Zenfone 8 from multiple devices, and though they connected to the hotspot, there was no internet connectivity. I'm presuming AT&T is blocking it and want me to give them more money to allow it.
Hey, Tim and perhaps others having this issue. I wanted to share my experience with being able to connect to the wifi hotspot on my Zenfone 8 but not having internet connectivity. In my case, my carrier is Consumer Cellular on the AT&T network.
Upon receiving my new Zenfone, I lost the wifi hotspot capability. I have heard that Consumer Cellular, and other carriers, require you to request that the wifi hotspot feature be enabled. For me, this wasn't the issue, as the feature worked fine when I switched my sim card back to my prior phone, a Sony Xperia XZ1. With the sim card in the Sony, I dug into the APN settings and discovered a few differences when compared to the default Consumer Cellular APN settings on the Zenfone. I first attempted to add a new APN to try out different settings on the Zenfone, but was puzzled why after creating a new APN, editing its settings, and tapping save, the APN was not saved to the APN list. I'm guessing that this is a Consumer Cellular block. Then, I decided to edit an existing APN, I believe it was called Tracfone. The settings which seem to enable the wifi hotspot function are the MVNO type and MVNO values. Another strange quirk is that when you edit these values and save the APN, all the other saved APNs disappear from the list. If you then change the MVNO values back and save the custom APN, the other APNs reappear, perhaps another Consumer Cellular effect? At first, I was concerned that changing these settings might interfere with or disable some network-related functionality, requiring a quick APN edit every time I wanted to use the wifi hotspot option, but I have not noticed any issues. I realize that these MVNO settings are related to carriers like Consumer Cellular that utilize the networks of other major carriers: AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc., so this fix might not work for everyone. I thought I would share it anyway. I have attached screenshots of my APN settings for reference.

Thanks for this! How did you know which values to use for MVNO Type and MVNO Value? I have AT&T, and those values are both unset for the AT&T access point.

I just tried the two settings that worked in my older Xperia XZ1. I've attached photos of the settings from that phone. Both configurations allow for wifi hotspot on my Zenfone 8, but I have only used the GID for any length of time. It seems that when you choose the MVNO type, it autofills the MVNO value, at least it does for me. I don't fully understand what these settings mean other than that they relate somehow to resellers. I just know that changing them allowed the wifi hotspot to work again for me. Someone else here would probably have a better explanation for it.
Edit: I found the following link that explains some of the MVNO settings.
