Hello everyone! I'm wondering will this device work with AT&T service since it's just a triband phone, and, afaik, AT&T uses 850MHz as their primary frequency for GSM calls (depends on location) in NYC area.

Be aware tho that the diamond only does 3G at 900/2100, but AT&T use 850/1900. That means you won't be able to use 3G capabilities on AT&T anywhere.
I would either wait for the american version, or buy the 2G one they're selling in india for ~200$ less.

Well looking at the page it looks like T-Mobile have even less 1900 coverage (GSM). I don't know their current 3G situation, but they will be/are using 1700Mhz for 3G, which the diamond can't handle either

That must mean it's for T-Mobile US. I heard T-Mobile was supposed to be getting the Kaiser. and their 3G is 1700 band(in case you didn't already know).
I wonder if that means us AT&T people could buy one and use it roaming on TMO's 3g network.

As for cellular networks, they llist GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS1700, UMTS1900, UMTS2100.

I wonder if this means it has an updated hardware radio transceiver, and the rest of us are out of luck?
Would this mean there is no way to actually get 1700 through a radio flash like how Emobile's radio works on the current Kaiser without locking it to 1700MHz only, and flashing a Kaiser radio to Emobile won't give it 850/1900/2100?
I don't know, but I'd sure like to see a date on its availability and make sure those specs are real-- I travel a lot to Japan, and I want to switch to T-Mobile here in the states the second 3G gets turned on.
See, I'm with Sprint now but my contract is up September 1st. I'm supposed to be back in Japan sometime in October. My plan was to get the unlocked unbranded TYTN II from NewEgg and put it on T-mobile's flex pay plan until I leave. While I wouldn't have access to the 3G bands, T-Mo gives access to Wi-fi hotspots if you have a certain data plan, and I also have AT&T DSL service-- that gives me access to AT&T's Wi-Fi spots already. So I'm pretty much covered in most places if I need a faster conncection than EDGE.
In Japan, I'd just go with Softbank or Docomo--whichever is easiest to hook up the TYTN II to and keep SMS,MMS, and Internet to.
But after reading Emobile's plans on their site along with knowing T-Mobile USA will flip the switch on 3G on 1700MHz here in Atlanta soon... I may wait.
So will this actually support quad-band GSM/EDGE(850, 900, 1800, 1900) and quad-band HSDPA 3G (850,1900,1700,2100)?

Softbank. They're the only ones that support SIMs for rental. So so rates, but you could try to negotiate to a flat-rate plan.
Otherwise, you need to do full-contract w new phone, pull the sim, and then use it in the Kaiser. But why, since Japanese phones are so much better when you're there.
In the past HTC disabled 3G support on the S710 and S730 for use in the US because no US carrier 'supported' this phone. So although both were decent phones we couldn't use them at EDGE speeds.
Does anyone know if the Touch Diamond quad-band model works at 3G speeds with the US AT&T network?

Oh yes, beautifully.. Better yet, the Diamond is able to use HSDPA with AT&T, which is faster than 3G, as alleged as 3.5G

I bought the unlocked US version from Best Buy, they matched web price, and I had the phone up and running on AT&T very quickly. There is an auto setup for AT&T users. Solid performance, H in my area, auto changes elsewhere.
It can beat my home dsl speeds while tethering when I am on the road. That rocks pretty hard imo. Just be aware that the euro version of the diamond which can be found on the internet and in the used market cannot be flashed to light up the US 3G freqs, it really is a hardware issue.
Does anyone know if this will also work with T-Mobiles 3G network or is the frequency on this phone not capable? I want to check before I bite the bullet on picking one up. Thanks!
Unfortunatly, it won't due to different bandwidth. AT&T uses UMTS 850/1900, whereas T-Mobile uses 1700. More details can be found in "US 3G First Look" in this thread.
Hi everyone i tried searching but didn't come up with anything. I'm considering purchasing an unlocked nexus one on amazon and I'm not sure if its a tmobile or att version I have tmobile as my provider if i were to get an att version would i still get 3g access? I know if it was the opposite i there would be no access for 3g on att.

I believe t-mobile's 3g is 2100mhz, which means the atnt one should work on the network.
I'd get a second opinion though, I'm more knowledgeable on Australian networks than US ones.

The devices are completely independent of one another in regards to 3G. Cross network compatability only extends to Edge services.
Someone jump in and correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that T-Mobile 3G requires both the 1900 and 2100 frequencies to work (up & down link).
Rod3 is correct the at&t version will not work on t-mo and the t-mo version will not work on at&t, in respect to the 3G that is you will still get edge either way.
Although as far as the both 1900MHz and 2100MHz I'm not sure about that but it's possible, anyone care to add some info.
EDIT: Just Googled it and it's 1900MHz for 2G and 1700MHz/2100MHz for 3G encase anyone is interested.
Dude, thanks for the correction. I knew there were 2 frequencies for 3G and I just picked one off the top of my head. Now that I think about it, yeah 850 and 1900 were for 2G.

Is there *any* way I can get 3G/4G speeds on Samsung Focus S? I saw the unlock/debrand thread. Will it also enable 3G speeds on t-mobile network or is it hardware related and there is nothing we can do about it?

My Focus S did 4G right out of the box.
The main reason you might not be able to get higher speed data lines is because of the frequencies your carrier uses to support those data feeds. Not all carriers are using the same bands. Rogers (here in Canada) uses the same bands as AT&T, so you pretty well have to wait until you can find an AT&T phone to buy to make it work.
T-Mobile in the US uses different bands, so their phones will only do E here in Canada. Likewise, and unlocked AT&T phone will only do E on T-Mobile in the US.

You lucky son.... Anyways I get great reception where I life, but it's more of a rural town Northwest of SEATTLE. I've tried AT&T phones here and I get HSDPA+ so would I get it when Tmobile is done refarming? I'd be happy with 3g though as EDGE blows...

So without thinking I bought a Nokia Lumia 920 for AT&T off of Ebay.
Now after doing some research I see I may not be able to get 3G/4G.
So I have two things to ask, would flashing another rom on my device help? (I really don't think it will but i'm going to ask to be safe)
Or is there anyway to get 3G/4G working without having to buy a new phone -_-
T-Mobile obtained a bunch of bandwidth that AT&T was going to use, after the failed acquisition attempt. They've used that to roll out network coverage for AT&T's phones, as part of their plan to encourage people to switch. It's not as *extensive* of coverage as T-Mobile's native bands, but it's not terrible. You probably can't get LTE, but you can get 3G and HSPA+ (what TMoUS often calls 4G, especially before they had their own LTE).
I know I get 4G and LTE on T-Mobile using an AT&T 920, but I think LTE only works in certain refarmed areas that use the right frequency. HSPA+ (4G) and 3G appear every once in while and work as well.

I can deal with that, I know back in the day when i unlocked my wife's Iphone 4 it could only get edge. but I was not sure if that problem was just because well it was an Iphone.

Yeah, old iPhones used AT&T's frequencies for 3G and T-Mobile uses different frequencies, so you couldn't use 3G. That's not much of a problem anymore, though; even phones that don't support T-Mobile's main bands can use their re-farmed AT&T bandwidth.

T-Mobile refers to it as refarming; that is assuming you have coverage and that's a big if for many of us who are rural and you live in a town big enough to have it then if you're using an AT&T device subsidy unlocked or locked then you will be able to access HSPA+ and I'm not kidding when I say it's fast, faster than both AT&T and Verizon Wireless in Auburn-Opelika, AL and Columbus, GA where I hail from. HSPA+ is not a LTE or 4G technology so it will run on both AT&T and T-Mobile's 1900 band...if AT&T it's HSPA+ everywhere and where T-Mobile has refarmed 1900; it's 3G or 3.5G there too. Otherwise, it's 2G and I can safely tell you it sucks once you've enjoyed HSPA+ and worse T-Mobile has next to no coverage in many places outside most big cities and that's the wrap with T-Mobile.
