One thing i hope doesnt happen. I had pandora on a winmo device and sound quality was horrible i hope thats not the case for us now.
I hope it comes soon. Just googled pandora, tried it,and now I love it. Does have a .jar of of a mobile version already out? I'd like to see if I can get that to work while i wait.
I think it does. youll have to do a seach on it though.

I tried using the J2me converter in the market but this are my results on this thread. I have the JAR hosted if someone wants to give it a shot.

Hopefully it will stream ok on EDGE. Im excited about this one!!!!
Open the box now!1!
Oh yummy. I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve, can't wait to open pandora's box. One app I've been dying to get my hands on since I got a G1. Hack away at that jarfile.

Tell me why I should use this over Last.Fm
I have been using last.fm for a few years now, its the single best thing about XBMC. What does pandora do that last.fm does not?
Last.Fm bitrate is very clear and stable, android players take a bit to buffer but this is related to hardware not software. It has just about EVERYTHING I have ever searched for and I have searched for some little known punkrock bands.
The thing I hate about pandora on my friends iphone is the damn skip limit. When I showed him last.fm he was amazed I could skip tracks forever.

So what your saying is.... There is no reason to be excited at all. Unless you have never used last.fm that is.
If there's a skip limit I'll stick with last.fm, that's a deal killer so no thanks to this and eyemeem
don't overlook the most important aspect of Pandora...
The Music Genome Project, an ambitious attempt at mapping the things that have influenced the artists we all listen to. I've been exposed to great music I likely would not have heard had it not been for The MGP.
atleast last.fm works in the uk, just tried pandora website now and it says no longer available outside the US
hey have any of you guys seen this? http://www.cyrket.com/asset/943468869273605197 its orb for android, only problem is there is no search function for it!
do any of you mods or gods (cyanogen, etc) or normal folk (lol) know how to or could you add a search function or sort in artists, albums??
its open source now, so you could even make a quick buck!
http://christian-albert-mueller.com/blog/androrb-now-open-source/
I love this on the iphone, so it would be really great for android!
80 views and nothing?
I've been using that alpha for awhile now. Very buggy, video playback is sorely lacking codec support, music playback is marginal at best. Lack of search function and cumbersome file browsing make this app fail imo. Needs help badly but could be a cool package with some work.
Wow, almost made a new post because this one is dead.
I mean c'mon it's Orb for Android! I'm pretty geeked at how some of the videos I sampled from PC actually streams on here! C'mon surely there is someone that's interested in picking up the open source code and adding in better browsing options like browsing by folder & search! This have potential to be one of the most kickass apps on here!
i had orb streaming live tv and my media from my pc but it broke after cupcake for some reason i would love an app for this
Bump... This app needs some work!
Not working on Droid
I gave up Windows Mobile (which worked pretty well with Orb) and got a Droid yesterday. It is a fantastic device, but I have been pretty disappointed with the lack of Orb support. I would be willing to pay to see a stable Orb app, and a Hulu app too! (it would be nice if Orb started to stream Hulu to mobile devices, I know they already do some internet vids).
What's wrong with just using the mobile browser site? I've been using it almost since I got my G1 and it generally works fine.
I saw that this is now open-sourced but not a single dev has picked this up to finish. I see that it has great potential and a lot of the base has been completed, just needs some fine tuning.

Thread resurrection!!!!
I love this phone more than the iPhone but I just give up on uploading movies. I can upload music with no problem but movies forget it. I'm using handbrake and I get the same result: sound good....but video scrambled and choppy. I have followed the post on how to upload videos using handbrake but I'm having no luck with it. Any ideas???
very strange man, i also followed them as the guy instructed, but for me the playback is amazing.
Yeah that's strange. I have Total Recall , lord of the rings , and pulp fiction all look and run perfect. All made with hand brake.

Test it on your computer first, if the video is still messed up then it's an encoding error.
Personally, I think DVDFab's ease of use makes it a better alternative to handbrake. DVD and BluRay decryption is built in, and in one click I can have it Rip a movie to iPhone format. I use one more click to change screen size for captivate - but this doesn't really have to be done. They update this app regularly - i bought the platinum edition long ago, and it has not failed me.
Give Rockplayer a try to see if you have better results as far as playback goes.

I will try a different movie and see if that works. Just Samsung would make a program for the phone that makes this an easier job to do. This is the only draw back to this phone, most people dont have the time or skills to do this. Just my 2 cents.
Pardon my arrogance, but it appears as though you're trying too hard. I drag and drop my mp4 movies from my laptop to my Captivate with Windows Explorer. They work like a champ.

DVDFab is as easy as it gets and they have a 15 day trial - put your disk in, say DVD to Mobile; pick iPhone and you are done. No phone manufacturer makes a tool for ripping DVDs - mainly because it violates the DMCA in the US.
If you want an iTunes like solution, then in a few days you can buy your shows via the Samsung mediahub. Point and Click.
Hey guys.
according to the WSJ Music Beta is soon to be released. What is your experience so far?
Especially i want to know if you have any problems using it from "no us countries"... I'm living in germany and I havent had any problems at the beginning, since a few weeks i can't log in to my MusicManager to upload new songs (Counld not identify your computer )
and i also would like to know if you are willing to pay for this kind of service.

Well they're going to be a lot like Apple and iTunes, although I didn't see anything about DRM. Which will be awesome, DRM is stupid and doesn't do anything.
I love Music right now...I use it to stream music that I don't always listen to and store on my phone when I actually do want to listen to it. It's great if my phone is off too, and I'm over at someone's house or something and want to play music from my library. I've had very few hiccups, sometimes I've had to force Music to upload songs, but not really that much. I'd like better control over adding songs to the cloud library though.
And no...I would NOT pay for this kind of service. I'd pay for EXTRA parts of the service, if I deemed them useful (which I probably wouldn't). And of course, I'd love to buy music from Google rather than Apple, I'd much rather support a company I care about.
I use Amazon Cloud Player which is nearly an identical service.
It's awesome btw.
Been using Google music off and on. The artist list can get really laggy over 3g if you have a lot of music. I'm more inclined to pay Pandora which works well over 3g even with the lower audio quality.

the new interface is a bit funky at times, but it very easy to navigate through. however, i still love me some poweramp!
force closes!!!
I bought chromecast the day it came out from best buy. Since then I have used it maybe 3 times. It was more of an impulse buy since most Google stuff is awesome.
The fact that I can only use this with Netflix or YouTube is bs. Trying to get local vids to play through chrome browser is hit or miss. Most of the time it just downloads whatever movie I try to play. If I want to watch a local vid from the comp I just turn on the Xbox.
Hopefully Google gets their stuff together and let's ppl stream from the phone to the tv, then I would use it. Until then it will remain plugged into my TV taking up an HDMI port until I need to plug in something that I will use or until Google adds more functionality. And Netflix streaming sucks. Kinda a crappy "bonus" if u ask me.
Not useless, but my excitement has waned significantly. Google seems to be following the GoogleTV mode on this device too, which means we most likely won't ever see it reach its potential, for a myriad of political and monetary reasons. My similarly priced Rockchip MK808 GTV stick has lots of capabilities, but I did have to buy a control point (Lenovo N5902) and it is a bit more fiddly than Chromecast, but the power and capability makes it worth it.
What's with the incessant whining? The product has only been out for less than a month, it's still getting into customers' hands and its development is in progress. The product's capabilities were clear when you bought it (Netflix, YouTube, Google Play and Chrome tab streaming). Wait for progress or return it and save us the drama.

I see a lot of people complaining that this device only does what google said it would do. I don't understand this. When the SDK is officially released and apps start appearing then you will get extra functionality but until then don't complain that you can do exactly what was advertised.
I agree, chromecast is pretty much useless.
Casting from a Chrome browser tab gives me a low quality picture.
I'm back to using hdmi cable.
It will gather dust until someday Google permits Fling to function again.
Or maybe until the next garage sale?
Regards
I'm pretty happy with it so far. Netflix support is great and Play Movies is (in my opinion) the best place to purchase digital movies. Really the only thing it's missing for me is playing *ahem* acquired movies.
I am happy with it so far.
I have never been a big youtube user because i don't like to sit at the computer and watch videos. Chromcasting youtube has been a ton of fun for me over the past couple of weeks. I find it a little easier than using youtube in the browser on my htpc with the keyboard. I experience less eyestrain looking at the tablet in my hands than trying to navigate youtube the screen 10+ feet away.
...but hoping the pace of new casting enabled apps picks up.

Thats funny since the app you loved so much uses the same video compress as the chrome browser. I cant beleive anyone is happy flinging <480p video(as far as i know the 500px width is about the highest quality webm video they've gotten to go to the chromecast. Its a neat tool but not practical for transcoding hidef video(or even dvd)
I agree with the current lack of usability. Hopefully new functions will appear soon.
It does what Google said it would do. More functionality hopefully will come and should come. But I use Chromecast daily for watching Breaking Bad and YouTube for my son

I got mine about a week ago ir less after being on backorder for 4 weeks. I too HOPE we get more functionality from it soon/in time. BUT it has been nice to have for me for the price. My living room big tv has directCRAPtv connected to it which is okay but no other real devices except dvd player and vhs bel8eve it or not (which hardly ever get used).
So for the price it cost $42 shipped even with netflix it is worth thst little money. We have 3 roku's connected in three other rooms with netflix already, Hulu+ and they cost what about 3 times as much and dont do much more than this.
Since we have already seen some PREVIEW apps that shows what it CAN DO I know in time it will have more usage available. Hell I remember when the google market didnt have many apps with my first android device. I kept seeing comparisons (as stupid as they were) about iCrap having way mire apps available. Some things like this Chromecast start off slowly but I bet most apps worth streaming will work soon enough. So for the price I paid I can wait a while for the functionality I want.
I am an adult and have some patience. We have already seen Google response to the local streaming content. So I know in time it will come. So no worries. I probabky wont buy another 1 or more until it has the functionality/apps ready. But for the price and features already it is worth it. I rather watch the netflix on the 72" screen than my rooms 3w inch screens, let alone my tab or phone. Do I watch it on the other devices? Yes. So I feel the difference in the big screen...

No offense to you but a good amount of that "incessant whining" is highly justified. Logitech pretty much has left us with a device that is buggy beyond belief. If I can't do simple stuff like YouTube without having to reformat it every other day then it's a fail in my opinion. Aw well once I can get my hands on the MiniX Neo X7 then I'm done with the Revue once and for all.

None taken...I felt your pain for a few weeks before throwing in the towel on that product (ow, the pain of early adopter). My point is that we've 'been here before' with some Google widget that fell short of its promise, owing to a too-early, 'not ready for prime-time player' (nod to the SNL oldsters out there) and disorganised messages about updates and direction of development. If they're hunkering down in attempt to curry favor with big media companies (learned a lesson from GTV?), we're in for a long wait, and likely a hampered SDK, Still, I like what I've seen from these third-party devs (Bubble, ALL/Air, etc.), and hope we see a quick release and uptick on 'indie' dev that doesn't necessarily promote Google's own agenda.
edit: I'm curious why you prefer the Minix X7 over a recent MK Rockchip stick?
