I was able to get my Kaiser after someone at my work dropped theirs and since AT&T won't cover damage they ended ordering a new one and I decided to replace the screen which was BADLY broken but otherwise worked. What I didn't know was that the contacts on the earpiece speaker were being held in be the case.
I am looking to get a replacement 'earpiece', aka conversation speaker, for my Tilt but I cannot seem to find it anywhere online including ebay. So far I have found a few repair shops that would be willing to fix it if I send it in but as I have already successfully replaced the LCD I prefer to do the work myself. Does anyone have the part they would be willing to sell me or know of a company that would sell just the part. I have a bluetooth headset but it would be REALLY helpful to have the earpiece speaker working again since windows can be flaky when it comes to answering the phone using the headset.

I was wondering if anyone familiar with the Dream hardware knew if it was possible to replace the mic, and where I might buy one. For no reason that I can determine, my outgoing volume is suddenly 10% of what it used to be. I've tried multiple ROM's but the issue persists. Currently running Amon_RA 1.5.2, Danger SPL, Cyanogen 4.2.12.2 if anybody has a software solution I haven't thought of feel free to chime in as well.
Thanks
did you try using the head phones that came with the g1?
?? I can hear people fine, they can't hear me.
the headphones that came with the g1 have a microphone, and headphones that you can plug into the microphone
Good to know, unfortunately I don't have those headphones. Bought the phone off Craigslist. Worked fine for about 6 months before this happened to me. Maybe I'll see if I can find the headphones on the web somewhere.
I tried to do a search and even on google I couldn't quite find anyone with the same issue.
I've got a HTC Hero I've had for about 6 months. Rooted and running aosp's aospCMod. Love the phone and love the ROM.
Anyway, my issue is that I was on my way to the gym with my son and couldn't find my headphones. We had to stop at the store anyway so I bought a crappy pair of $3 headphones.
I plugged them in and the music was blaring and sounded like crap. I figured it HAD to be the crappy headphones, right?
Not so quick. I plug my phone into my car stereo on the way home and it sounds like a blown speaker. Checked again at home with a set of speakers I've got in my garage for my phone and it still sounds like crap (hissing, crackling noises, just like a blown speaker).
So, has anyone heard of this happening to them? If you can't tell, I use my phone for a music player a LOT. By the way, the normal phone speakers sound OK. Not as loud as they used to be but that just might be my imagination, not sure yet.
I've rebooted, etc, nothing seems to work. Please let me know if anyone knows anything.
Thanks,
Eric
I had the same issue. Once i noticed the degraded audio quality, it noticably got worse every day. Its a fairly common issue with the hero. I used the RUU and confirmed that it was likely a hardware issue since the stock rom did not fix it. Sprint had the part in stock and replaced it within 15 minutes for free.

Thanks
I was hoping that wasn't the case, but it is what it is.
I'm just worried that since I got it at Radio Shack (Sprint) that Radio Shack is going to tell me to call Sprint and Sprint is going to tell me to go back to Radio Shack or send it directly to HTC, etc.
I just know from talking to the kid(s) at Radio Shack they they have NO technical abilities whatsoever.
Anyway, thanks for the quick response. Guess it's time to RUU.
I'd just call sprint. The last time I had an issue with a phone (my wifes intercept) they setup an appointment at an authorized repair center for us. The people we went to were pretty knowledgeable and got the phone fixed. Oh and I actually bought her intercept from a Radio Shack.
Got a replacement HTC Pure and when I call someone/receive a call, the person can hear me fine, however I can only hear them on speakerphone. Anyone else know a workaround for this or will I have to send it in for a different one?
Route your audio
Route your audio with this program;
AudioRoute
This tool can be used to route the audio from the earpiece speaker to the backspeaker and vice versa.
Hope this helps,

This problem is usually caused by a failure of the internal speaker unit. This unit is often available on EBay Australia (and presumably internationally) for about $A10. It is very easily fitted and a cure usually takes only a few minutes once you have the component.
Let me know if you need a descriprion of the replacement process. But it is easy and obvious.

I have the same problem and i found this:

I haven't placed an order yet but i will. Even if this is not the cause of the problem, it's so cheap it certainly deserves a try!
Hi folks, I had a search but didn't find anything conclusive.
Had my Nexus One for a few months now and although it isn't my main phone I am having some issues with the microphone when I do use it.
It seems to sometimes not work and others it does. However, if I put it on loudspeaker it works all the time. From what I have gathered, there are 2 microphones that get used on the one so I could be having an issue with one not working?
Also when it does work, it is very quiet or soft.
Does anyone know if I need a new microphone or if there is a fix I can do without buying a new part. If a new part is needed, does anyone know somewhere on the web where I can buy one?
Thanks,
Fraser
hi, tech guys and friends. I recently got my HTC one probably two months backfrom an eBay seller
here's my problem
1. no sound comes from any of the speakers.
2. when I tried to play an audio.file it says unable to.play this type of audio file
3. headphones doesn't work,no Mic even
4. when I make calls neither of the part hear their sounds, also call screen hanags
5. videeoe recording doesn't work
generally audio related actions denied to work. I don't have warranty and I am thinking what causing this problem
1. software??
not sure , as I flashed the stock firmware with RUU. and made many resets the other phone functions work properly, but sounds never come up
why it says unable to.play this type of audio file with stock player???
2. hardware??
I checked the headphone jack and and moved back and forth the headset connector, but no use , no sound comes
pls help me this is I feel serious problem to me I.don't have warranty as I purchased from eBay. and I cannot disassemble before deciding hw/sw problem. the repairability is quite on low side.
I am badly seeking for solution..i hope someone already should have faced these kinda problem and might have solved it..pls share it to me or share your experiences... thanks
This is most probably a hardware problem. If everything is stock and bla bla bla then you should complain to the seller. Send it to HTC for a check. It's usually $35 for an inspection and decide what you want to do with the phone from there.
Good luck
