You may have noticed, if you have a T-Mo SIM in your Diamond, that when you see the connection wizard, it only gives you the option of Virgin and not T-Mo. DUH!
Well, here's a fix. Install the CAB, reboot when prompted, job done!

Hey Guys,
I've upgraded my MDA to the latest firmware from T-Mobile and did the soft-reset trick to avoid the installation of the T-Mobile extended rom junk.
The phone works great but it says that it is roaming even though I'm on my home network. It never did this on the old rom. FYI... the phone is unlocked and is being used on the Rogers network in Canada (which is my home network and where the SIM is registered).
Any ideas?

roaming update
Well I've made phone calls to Rogers and T-Mobile and here's the verdict.
The phone is not actually roaming, there is no roaming charges applied, the SIM card still knows where it is; however, the new ROM from T-Mobile is a USA based rom and it makes the phone think it's not on it's home network and therfore display the roaming icon.
Fortunatly, a bug in WISBar hides the icon most of the time so I guess I'll just live with it. If anyone has a solution to get rid of the icon I'd love to hear it though.

Although I'm a T-Mo USA customer, my MDA always showed roaming as well (without the extended ROM to disable it) because my SIM is from T-Mo's predecessor, "Voicestream" which had a different MNC.
To fix it, use a registry editor and change \HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\DisableRoamingIndicator to "1" and the roaming icon is disabled.

If I disable the icon, will it show up when the phone actually is roaming?
Also, you mentioned without the tmo extended rom software to disable it... will this work correctly with the addition of the tmo ext rom? Is there a .cab we can extract to run on it's own?

Before first turning it on, I placed my ATT SIM on the Kaiser and it autoconfigured to it. I have a couple of additional SIMS for travelling, one from GLOBE Philippines and one from TELMEX Mexico.
If I placed one of this on the Kaiser before travel, will it autoconfigure to it?
Will I loose the ATT settings? If so, will they return when swapping SIM cards again?
Thanks
I changed the SIM from AT&T to Globe and it did not configure the device for Globe. It just stayed on the settings for AT&T. Voice roams fine, but DATA does not.
Any idea how to run the configuration for a SIM in a different network without a total reset?
OK - Found it in Settings - "Connection Setup" - Choose Country and operator.
The Kaiser doesn´t have the Telcel settings anyway. If you have them, I´d appreciate them. I´m happy paying for data (happy is probably not the right word) but it´s better than kowtowing to the Oligarchs of Telcel
Hey guys
I have a problem here
Last month I bought an ATT Tilt and unlocked the sim that I can use it internationally
the sim unlock does its job, however, I can't seem to use the GPRS in other country even though I've set it up correctly (even had representative from the provider to help me)
so..can anyone help me with this ?
thanks
used my kaiser in Ukraine on GPRS
I just got back from Germany and Ukraine. My AT&T sim roamed on 3g fine in Germany. In Ukraine I put in a kyivstar sim. My HTC Kaiser did not recognize and auto configure the sim for data. (the phone worked just fine with no adjustments). I went to the kyivstar website and got their settings for GPRS (www.ab.kyivstar.com) and entered them manually in settings/connections/connections section. GPRS then worked just fine. I was surprised Kyivstar did not auto config since they have been the largest provider in Ukraine for 10 years. When I came back to the states my AT&T sim card powered up and reconfigured itself to 3g just fine also. Sorry but I do not know why yours is not working
i have the same problem with you , i bought att tilt from ebay a month ago. The sim lock works still but after a month i can not connect gprs. Can someone help me ?
same problem......
HELP !
Hi guys. Many Tmobile users encounter the same thing when using the Tilt. Locate the cab file in your Windows folder that Disables Hidden Proxy and run it. Then confirm your GPRS settings for your provider. That should clear the problem and allow connections.
did you try deleting the proxy in the registry?
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings]
look for the line that says
"EnableAutoDetect"
and delete it.
didnt work for me... but try!
Hi, first post, searched a little...need help
I bought a tilt in December from AT&T, an 8900 non camera. I'm in S. Korea and I cannot get service. I have international roam activated and AT&T has confirmed account settings are correct...Here's the deal:
1. Phone searches for a few minutes and the I get an exclamation point.
2. Goto phone settings and see "no service"
3. Change network settings from auto to manual.
4. Phone finds KTF and SK Telecom (the two providers here in S. Korea).
5. Tries to register and generally there is no feedback, but on occasion I have received the message "Cannot read settings from the network. Try viewing settings later or disconnect data connection and try again."
6. Data is not connecting.
7. AT&T technical support (level two after the customer service rep) says the problem with the tilt is I cannot force it to use umts 2100. Then he came up with the idea that my SIM is from AT&T and that's the problem, I have to go get a local SIM from SK Telecom, but I was here in October with a Palm750 and an ATT Sim. Worked like a charm.
I'm stuck....could use any help at all!!!!
Thanks,
Steve

Are the carriers that you are referring to CDMA or GSM?
The local carriers are WCDMA/UMTS 2100 and I've downloaded the band tab dll from another post and confirmed that I am on the correct band...
I'm almost convinced it is an account problem. As of this morning my phone would continously come up with a "select" network screen (As there are 2 networks here). I select either and get the message "unable to register on the selected network, choose another or change data connection type"..
As I understand it, when I roam, my sim or phone # attempts to register across the local network to my home network and it needs authentication before I can have access...
what do you think?
bump....anyone with experience at all here?
In a simialar boat soon
I will be moving to Korea soon (Military) and I have an 8925 (unlocked) and I am wondering if I will be able to use my phone with either SK Telecom or KTF (both have GSM, I checked.)
If so, will I have to change anything in my phone? I'm using Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid v2 5.2.19716 with the 1.65.14.06 Radio.
Hi,
When I boot up tmobile with sim card of india it brings me to android image screen. If I choose menu nothings shows up. As I touch the android image it leads me into gmail setup wizard. When I choose MENU I see wireless settings as only option. I am not sure how I can get the usual settings menu option from home screen what people talk about in all their instructions/blogs/articles.
Regards,
Miten.
You need to finish the registration cycle before you have access to the regular system menus.
I think in unmodified rom, the setting to skips registration/login of gmail is still not implemented, so you must login first and then get into the menu
Go through the gmail setup then everything will work.
MTNL carrier GPRS not working
Hi,
I have call plan from MTNL service provider (Dolphin plan). After putting my sim in since the phone does not let me proceed I am unable to make calls. I thought may be I need to do the gmail registration so I enabled GPRS with MTNL provider. The wireless settings MENU which I get I thought I can get it to set me up but I am unable to get GPRS working. Some APN setting I guess means Access Point Node I tried setting with what information MTNL provided me.
Apparently it is not working so I am unable to activate it.
You can search for "mtnl mumbai dolphin gprs" to get some details of what information MTNL provides for gprs.
You can see GPRS settings and at bottom on the page there are phone specific settings. There is none for HTC / Tmobile G1 so I choose manual common settings and tried to setup APN in G1.
So for now I dont have GPRS working. I don't get Wifi \ WLAN related option else I could have used it.
So I think I will have to use a carrier other than MTNL and activate the phone.
When I activate using a sim card from different carrier then when I try to use different sim card will it be fine ? is the gmail account linked to phone or to sim ?
You guys agree ?
Regards,
Miten.
u can just use any other simcard with data plan supported and then login to gmail. after that u can just change the simcard. As far as i know, the mail is bounded to the phone, not the sim.
I just talked to one of my friend who has Airtel sim card with data plan (GPRS). He said that GPRS was activated on his sim card by sms and he does not know what settings they are. When I use his sim in tmobile G1 (my phone) will it be all set or would I have to configure wireless settings ? I hope it auto detects and configures things else I will have to setup APN and hopefully its straight forward in working.
Regards,
works now
Hi,
I used my friends "idea" service provider card which has data plan. He used it on nexus one. I was able to complete gmail account setup. Now I put my card and then went in to register on network to get calling going. Without registering it would not let me do calls/sms. Yet gprs on my MTNL/dolphin service is not working.
Also the bluetooth H700c Motorola headset is not pairing with G1.
Regards,
t-mobile setup for MTNL
Hi,
MTNL dolphin automated process to activate GPRS/3G does not work for HTC dream/Tmobile G1. So needs to ask the customer care folks to manually instruct the exchange to activate it. Ask for expert / supervisor and talk to him to get it processed else you will not get any where.
Once you have your sim activated for GPRS/3G you are all set. You can use it to boot up android. If you cannot get it activated then arrange for one like I did and then you can move on.
The settings are all standard listed as common settings on their GPRS page. No need to setup server, mms etc. Enter only upto name, apn, proxy host, port, user/password.
So let me state that GPRS works fine with MTNL and HTC G1.
