Opera on Diamond vs for example Mio A701 - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi Guys.
How would the browsing experience differ when surfing the internet on my Mio A701 vs the Diamond performance wise?
(a701 has qvga and intel 520mhz, wifi 11mbt,opera 9.5 build 1126)
for example: on the a701 http://forum.xda-developers.com/index.php takes 50sec to completely load, non cached.

first. A701 does not have built in wifi, so you are using the wifi-SD card.
I also have used a Mio A701 for over a year and just switched to a Diamond.
your question.
connected my diamond to my wifi home network and loaded the page forum.xda-developers.com/index.php this took 30 seconds.
if you are going to compare the 3G download compared to the GPRS on the A701 the difference will be much bigger
hope this answers your question.
regards Wilco

wilcovh:
(yepp, i am using the sandisk 256mb wifi card, running at 11mbt/s)
Thanks, that answers my question perfect =)
Do you feel that opera runs faster than on the a701?, scrolling in pages, using tabs etc?
disregarding the built in wifi/3g on the diamond, do you feel that it was worth the upgrade?,
when comparing the overall performance it feels like the a701 should be faster because it only has an qvga screen and similar cpu performance, do you feel like the a701 is snappier/slower or the same overall performance?
Thanks for the reply

I have not used the internet a lot on the A701 so cannot really compare, though the diamond really loads complete pages with an easy zoom and move around system.
the overall performance is here and there somewhat sluggish. especially the touchflo 3d. more people on the forum are talking about that, but the rom on the diamond still needs to be improved. people that know how to do it are working on that. when you close the touchflo 3d the performance is at least as good as the A701
The available poldo or jchym roms for the A701 are more or less fully optimized now which is not the case with the roms for the diamond yet. so it will only get better
i think the diamond is a good next step after the A701

Diamond not as quick as the Touch Pro

Just saw this Youtube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pENEldRxuwQ
and I am amazed at how quick the menus are on the Touch Pro. Why is the Diamond not as quick as this? Does the latest firmware for Diamond make it as quick?
TIA
touch pro has more memory.
Why do you think it is faster than the Diamond ?, I have ROM 193 and it doesn't seem faster at all (and btw, I only have like 20mb of free RAM, kind of shows you how meaningless this whole RAM issue is).
Mine is as fast - no that roms are being fine tuned - using a beta from a cook here i have to say that vid is nothing exciting and my dimaond is wizzing away - i cant make touch flo lag however erratic i use it...
Im sorry to spoil the party but my Diamond is as quick as the one in the Video or maybe even quicker. (all tweaks applied and Cooked ROM)
Im sure the PRO can be even faster after it takes a stroll down to the kitchen!
luck fellassss
so can a similar speed be seen on a diamond with an official firmware or can it only be achieved with a coked firmware? any videos showing the speed of the Diamond UI which is supposedly just as fast? TIA
Im sure the PRO can be even faster after it takes a stroll down to the kitchen!

Maybe, but I doubt it will ever be faster than the Diamond.
Unlike Desktop PCs (and correct me if I'm wrong), WM doesn't use RAM to cache hard drive information, rather all software 100% works from RAM (after it loads there, that is). So, you could definitely load more software to the Pro's RAM, but each individual software won't run any quicker than on the Diamond.
The Touch Pro's name should really be changed to "Fat Diamond".
I have stock ROM .. and my Diamond is as fast as the one in the video ..

I agree.
Im not familiar with the Processor the PRO has but im assuming the Processor is the same on both.
I believe the speed is judged by the MGz in the Processor. So if both carry the same processor they should have same speeds.
IMO I might be mistaken.
With the new ROM and tweaking programs my Diamond is very very fast... I'm very pleased now... and I don't like the HTC Touch PRO because is not that slim like the Diamond wich is on of the ``features`` I like about it.
With Bepe 0.98 ROM, Mine is running a little faster than that
Mine is that fast or faster too, thanks Dutty, and that's with a big pile of crap loaded on by me too.

Actually, there is a setting that can make the diamond cache file system....
when cooked touch pro ROMs manifest themselves, we might see a difference though I'm just looking forward to how much the diamond is going to earn on raphaels drivers and software

Indeed!!!
Besides if you look at PROS desktop pictures you can see a diference in its Manila, its got a diferent Homepage!
Diamond is gonna inherit much of that wealth.
Luck fellas!

Could you tell me what version your stock ROM is please. Thanks
my diamond is on DUtty v1.6 and it's fast! slightly faster than on the video if i have to say?
I get the same performance as in the video with a 1.37 Swedish stock rom.
The only (tempoarary) performance issues I have with TF3D is after I for instance close down Opera or do some other CPU intensive task. It then usually takes a few seconds before the menus are back to being as responsive as usual. But that's it.
I have however applied the standard registry tweaks, but as far as I can remember I did not observe any significant change in performance.

Anyone from Kaiser to Diamond ?

Hello, I'm a Kaiser owner and I'm thinking about going to the Diamond.
Can someone tell me how fast is the Diamond compared to the Kaiser ?
Can you play videos faster than the Kaiser do (with no lags) ?
Thanks !

I am an ex Trinity user and Trinities were well known of beating the **** out of Kaisers, and many others. Compared to the Trinity, the Diamond does a slightly better job in rendering videos.
Ok, thanks ... So does this mean that the Diamond really includes the proper graphic drivers ?
I did search for informations about that but could not find any answer ...
I saw on a thread here that the Diamond is really slow using GPS softwares, you can see the roads drawing one by one when driving ...
So I don't understand how this device can be so fast in reading videos, and so slow in displaying GPS softwares maps ...

I never experienced that GPS issue. I believe it might have been something with a specific app or settings.
Diamond has different chip than Kaiser so it is not correct to say that Diamond includes the proper drivers. But YES, Diamond has optimized video drivers for its own graphic chip which is VGA and 3D capable.
Thank you very much for your answers !
I've moved from a Kaiser to a Diamond and say that using Coreplayer the videos are the same...albeit the Diamond is suposedly faster....but I never had any real issues with the Kaiser either
What I will warn you about is the battery drain....I find that with sporadic use the Diamond might last 3 days. I've not tried it yet, but I would think that the Diamond could not last a single 2 hr movie, with backlight over 70%. I do like the Diamond...but it has lots of funky flaws.....if I didn't know about this site and the experts here giving advice on tweaking and "new" ROMS that are faster I probably would have tossed it on the first day...
....then again, all HTC products (including the Kaiser) are not up to spec when they leave the box!!
Hope this helps
Thanks to you for your answer. In fact my Kaiser is the pocket pc which has the longer battery life other all I had before (Casio EM505F, Ipaq 1930, Axim X50V, Qtek9000, HTC Prophet ...). With the Kaiser, I don't feel the need to buy an extra battery.
I guess that the VGA display of the Diamond drains faster the battery ...
Enjoy the tilt display as well.....the "dear ol Diamond" has to sit flat on the aircraft dinner table or you need to put a bread roll underneath it to watch your movie at an acceptable angle
i switched as well, i managed to trade my kaiser for a diamond
reasons were better performance ( faster cpu en drivers) and thinner design
im loving it ( my diamond)

I am lucky enough to own a MDA Vario III and MDA Vario IV Compact (a free upgrade). I'd say the Compact IV compliments the Vario III but doesn't represent an upgrade. Personally most of the time I'll stick with the Vario III for the hardware keyboard but the Compact IV is a nice weekend more phone like form factor. Personally (and this is a personal view) I'd stick with the Kaiser if I had to choose between the two.
Thanks a lot for your answers ! I think I'll keep my Kaiser and wait for a real better device (much more powerfull).
altough the diamond has better hardware and decent drivers there basically the same
the kaiser is basically the same expierence but more suited towards people who type alot using a keyboard
i personally like the diamond a lot more because its thinner and much much lighter
i dont care for manilla that much , i switched back to throttle launcher now
on the other way around, compared to the diamond the only thing that the kaiser has going for it is the tilt screen abbility if you can live without that go for the diamond or wait a few weeks till hTC bring out another 47 smartphones to replace the diamond/kaiser all together

Not impressed by current ROMs

Hey,
Firstly, I would like to thank all the developers for making efforts to develop a decent rom for the Xperia. I have tried every single one of them.
Unfortunately I couldn't fall in love with any of them.
Somehow I sense that it must me me that is doing something if other older HTC devices seem to be running way faster on customized roms than the experia with so much hardware potential.
Anyone has the same feeling?
Kind Regards
no.
EDIT: For the sake of order: I've used an HTC Trinity before, which was MUCH slower - even with ultra light roms and maximum free RAM. I compared with the TyTn II, which has just awful landscape-switching speed and was overall slower. Compared with the Touch Pro, I don't see any big differences - and if, with slight advantages for the X1.
So, no, I don't think the X1 is slow or not smooth enough. It just depends on what you're running. TouchFlo3D just slows the system down significantly - even on the (original) HTC devices (like Diamond, Touch Pro or Touch HD).
this is the same comments coming everytime there is a new device.
Look at in.ex polaris...ok device, a bit slow. Now it have optimized 2d and 3d drivers, its damn fast compared to what it used to be...but that didnt happen with a snap of our fingers..
we are just in the beginning of working on x1
So please, be as unimpressed as you want.
have a nice day
cheers
Well, one should not forget, that the x1 has 25% more pixels than Diamond or Touch Pro and even 400% more pixels than Tytn II & Co ...

Think HTC could have done better with the Diamond 2

A good buddy of mine has the new Diamond 2 and I have to say the phone looks real nice but the proformance to my option is slower than the Diamond 1,Didn´t like the touchflo at all and with the same navi TomTom and map as on the Diamond 2 and the Diamond 1 ,My Diamond 1 with TomTom ran a whole lot smoother ,the 5mp camera ,good and fine but still as slow as the 3,2mp camera in the Diamond 1,the way it looks to me that the Diamond 2 is just a rebuilt Sony Xperia,Come on HTC ,i think ya could have done better with the Diamond 2,at least a better processor ,longer lasting battery, could have added the WM6.5, to make it a lil more interesting,Diamond 2 NO THANK YOU ,wait to see if a Diamond 3 comes out
The diamond2 will have wm 6.5 when it's released.

The TD2 is way faster than the TD1, has much more memory and TouchFlo is very very sensitive. And the long screen is superb, when I looked at the TD1 after a few weeks I say such a small screen...
Really, it's better in every ways! (although the black looks and the diamond back of the TD1 are nice too...)
How is the battery compared to Diamond 1?
Diamond2 is by far a marked improvement on the diamond1 with out a doubt..........BUT has anyone else noticed the lag and lack of smoothness on tomtom!!!
The touch of Diamond2 is much better than the Diamond 1:
It seems almost a kind of screen capacitive like the iPhone!

No. Seems very good - running ver 7.9 - although I do not have too much to compare it to. I use an old TomTom one, which seem pretty similar.

I was really disapointed with TomTom7 on the TD2. The POI icons are too small to see, and the screen refresh is very jerky. I used to run the same version of TomTom on my TYTN2, and it looked and ran much better

D2 is so much better than D1.
i used to have a Touch Pro, and i can say that the only advantage except the keyboard with touch pro was the battery. nothing else

I have had both. In fact, I have had two diamonds, touch pro, s740, etc. etc.
The Diamond 2 is way way faster then the Diamond. In fact its faster then the touch pro. The touch pro was always considered faster then the diamond due to the extra memory.
The TD2 is just super snappy. Pretty good condering all the extra pixels its pushing.
The battery is 1100 Mha comaperd to the diamond's 900 Mha. It shows.
Touchflow is much deeper integrated. Makes it better for touch using. Personally I like the stylus better, but I had an iphone for 2 months. Its a great phone, but not for me.
TD2 is nothing like the experia. Believe me.
As you haven't got a TD2, I would take your opinion with a grain of salt

Really??!!! That's funny....
I have both TD1 and a TD2 and I can tell you that the battery life on the TD2 is a BIG improvement.
Regarding speed..... you only need to look at the benchmarks to see which is the faster and we haven't even started cooking ROMs yet. The TD2 wins on every count.
I don't even know why I'm replying on this thread to tell you the truth, because as the saying goes "One man's meat is another man's poison" and it's useless trying to argue, but the truth is... the TD2 is faster and has a better battery life than the TD1. Fact.

Just have WM6.5 on my diamond with alot of tweakin on it hope to have my first rom out soon still testin
I moved from TD1 to TD2 a couple of weeks ago. Without a doubt the TD2 is significant better than TD1. In my scale of 10, the TD1 would be 6 whereas TD2 would be a 8 - a third better! Don't ask me how I got to these numbers; just pure happiness factor I guess!

Try the WVGA version of TomTom. This improves some of the icons but not all. The keyboard to input addresses is still small but the WVGA version is a bit better to see and use.

I came up with similar numbers as I upgraded as well. I think was at a 5.5 and bumped to around an 8.75.

Erm, is this machine just rubbish?

I've just got hold of a Touch Diamond after using an elfin (Touch Enhanced) for a year or two.
I started with some of the great looking roms here on the site and was looking forward to using Touchflo etc and getting the most out of the faster processor.
So far I've concluded that it's worse than the Elfin. On most roms everything seems, well, sluggish. Even the faster ones are not very fast.
Then there's memory. Only the Benko roms (trying Prime right now) seem to leave any room for applications.
Finally, it seems to keep charge if I don't use it but as soon as I do anything the battery level drops pretty quickly.
I love the touchflo 3d interface and the higher definition screen but I feel like it's a downgrade otherwise.
Are there any Diamond-lovers out there who can help me make the best of it and have it working well for them or should I get it on eBay quick and go back to trusty elfin?
Thanks for any comments.
