Can anyone confirm if Tomtom works fine with MDA Vario?
I'll be purchasing a new software & GPS from Tomtom but their website doesn't list Vario as supported so thought I'd ask first!
Thanks,
It does work but it can be a bit fiddly. There are some guides around on what you need to do but give it a go first and look for them if you have problems.
As you can probably guess it does run noticeably slow. I've reverted back to using my old iPAQ 4150 just for GPS use and the difference in speed is extremely noticeable.
I've had Tomtom on my SPV C500 phone and the phone is 200MHz CPU. And it ran perfect & smooth.
My Vario is reporting as 195Mhz CPU, so it should be ok, I think?
Edit: TCPMP is reporting 165MHz - which is correct??
tomtom takes a few secs to start up, but runs very smoothly.
No problems with TomTom on my 8125 with my Belkin bluetooth GPS. Now Belkin's software? THAT would bring my Wizard to a halt.
Tom Tom works great on my Vario. reasonably easy to setup - check Tom Tom's website and do searches on this forum.
It's faster than my Palm treo 650 (312mhz processor) at re-calculating routes which is the most important thing to me. Not quite as fast as my old Palm Tungsten T3 was with a 400mhz processor, but close.
The sound is great, no extra amplification required, though I can put it through the car speakers using a tape adapter & a seidio 2.5-3.5mm jack adapter - sounds weird coming through the stereo.(i.e Jane has a much deeper voice!)
Playing windows media files when Tom Tom is running has been a little hit & miss- sometimes it works but then the sound stops - I think Tom Tom is not very well written in that it likes to use all the processor cycles & threads it can get its paws on, but, I might have had too many programs running - probably best to make sure that as many programs are closed & push email is turned off if you want to play mp3's as well as having tom tom on at the same time.
I would also suggest that you use a car charger as Tom Tom will drain your battery in approx. 4-5 hours of constant use.
I use the Brodit vertical active holder - works very well & connects to my BT sony Ericsson HCB-300 car kit and my Holux GPSlim GR-236 both at the same time - a novelty for a palm user!
Bottom line - recommended. Highly.
I used the omap overclock to ramp up the processor a little with tomtom even though it worked ok without overclocking runs even better now set at 220 .You can edit the skype overclock fix and insert the tomtom part into it, thus it automatically overclocks on tomtom start and reverts back on exit.
should add you will need resco or other file explorer utilty to edit the text.
Hi
Does the GPS on here work with TOMTOM?
I nearly bought the Nokia N95 but was told it wont work with TOMTOM.
Bhayani
Yes, I've used TomTom with my Vario III with no problems.
thx Dan
I am running out of excuses, will have to buy the phone soon.
Just for info the N95 works ok with TOMTOM
Are you sure it works with the N95 internal GPS? Because I read a lot in the internet that N95 internal GPS does not work with TomTom.
Well, my wife wants N95 She does not like Kaiser! But I always tell her that the N95 internal GPS does not work with TomTom.
And "No" if it works with external GPS.

Hi there,
Has anyone made a TMC device working on the Athena?
I tried some version of the GNS FM9 adpaters but nothing worked.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Have a good start into 2008.

I agree - this would be very useful. I have iGo on my Ameo and it is brilliant (cant wait for iGo 8 or MioMap 2008 for the 3d visuals and road names) but it would be even better if I could get warned of upcoming hold ups on the major roads!

Hi,
just a question from my side:
I'm currently using igo with my Ameo and I have to wait and wait and wait and wait for the first GPS fix. It takes normaly between 5 and 15 Minutes until the first fix, even if I use the Quick-GPS Tool that comes with the Ameo. After that, everything works fine. How long does it take with your device and igo?
If I use my GNS GPS receiver (http://www.gns-gmbh.com/de/30_5843.php) I need only a few seconds until the first fix. And it supports TMC!!! I've searched a lot around to find another / cheaper solution to use TMC with the integrated GPS receiver, but I didn't find a working solution, so i decided to buy the GNS GPS receiver....
Regards
Andreas

Hi Andreas,
hmm... thank for the link. That would be really the last chance to get TMC working for the ameo.
FYI, I use Mobile Navigator 6 and it fixes the gps signal really quick. I also use the Quick GPS and when I start MN6 the GPS signal fixes within 1 minute.

Hey Andreas,
sorry to trouble you again but we are using the igo plus and the same gps as you the GNS 5843 but we can get the gps to work but not the TMC everytime we try to connect the TMC the pda just frezzes like the port has a conflict.
We have only been trying this in landscape mode can you tell me in which mode you are using the igo Portrait or Landscape.
Please can you help me in get this to work because I really like the Igo plus more the any anothe navigators.
Thanks
Gigino
Hi Gigino,
hmmmm, strange, for me it works. And yes, I'm using the landscape modus.
Sounds for me, that Igo uses the internal GPS receiver an tries to find a TMC connection on this internal GPS receiver.
Some Ideas from my side:
If you connect the GNS receiver via bluetooth, which serial port do you use? I've configured the bluetooth settings and then the COM-connections (I hope this are the right terms, I'm using a german ROM) with COM1 and secure connection. For instance Mobile Navigator 6 expects the TMC Signal only on COM1 and doesn't accept other ports.
The internal GPS Receiver is connected to Com4 on my system: GPS Settings -> Programms: Com4 and ->Hardware: None, 4800 Baud and -> Access: Automatic.
In a few words: internal GPS receiver on COM4, external GPS Receiver via bluetooth connected to COM1.
Do you have / use the test software from GNS to test, if youre GPS receiver is ok? You can download it on their page.
Last hint: Sometimes (Mobile Navigator6: every time!) you have to start the Navigator software twice to get a connection to the GNS 5843. It's a known bug for this receiver
Hope all this helps, otherwise contact me again
Regards Andreas

Hey Andreas,
thanks for your help I well try again over this weekend.
They is another problem that I have and I've tryed everything but cannot resolve it.
I use the Igo Plus in landscape mode when I'm using the map and I get a reminder or a call the screen revertes to portrait mode and after accept the call or dismissing the reminder all the buttons in the Igo software goes all funny.
Do you have the same problem or have you find a way to correct this problem.
Thanks
Gigino
Ah I have this problem if the keyboard is attached but not if it isnt. What happens is that for some wierd reason the screen gets INVERTED! If you imagine where the button should be if it were upside down you can click it! Most odd!

Hi,
I can confirm this also, the screen is inverted meens, that it looks ok, but you you have to touch it in an inverted way. I.e. the button is on the left upper corner of the screen, but you to click in the right lower area. Thats really strange. I've have the feeling, that this happens very often, if you use the Map view instead of the cockpit view.
@ gigino: I use the ameo with a brodit mount without the keyboard, so I don't have this problem.
In my last message is a little mistake, you have to switch OFF (and not ON) the automatic access in the GPS settings.

Andreas
Hi,
I have both navigation software installed on my HTC Diamond, using internal GPS.
However, I have noticed that IGO8 is more precise than TomTom 7 when for instance reaching a conjection or destination. Did anybody notice that too?
Which software of the listed do you think is more precise & time correctness??
Has anyone gotten this to work? The tomtom site shows it works for the tytn but not our tytn2 aka kaiser/tilt. I've seen lots of results with the DUN cab and other 6/6.1 devices so I refuse to believe the one xl is not compatible. Has anyone a clue,a lead or resolution so we all can enjoy our traffic updates through this decent gps receiver?
I have a Kaiser AT&T Tilt; downloaded the TomTom Taster v 6; with it I can take the map from my Tom Tom One and use it in my Tilt, no problem.
