Opera problems - possibile battery drain and low perf reason - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi all, i've found a very nice thing using opera. After 10-20 minutes of internet-browsing I've closed opera and i've see a huge amount of ram used, and poor performance of the device. (I've waited 10 minutes after closing opera, and i've replicated the problem many times during this days)
Using MemMaid i've see that a process opera9.exe is running using 100% of CPU, but not using too much ram, only 200kb (plus/minus).
The devise in this condition is very slow and has 85% of ram in use.
Then I've kill the opera9.exe process and the Ram goes back to 68%/70% in use, and the device comes back to be pretty fast.
For sure have a process runnig 100% of CPU could be a reason of a fast battery drain (more than the poor battery performance of the diamond ;-) ...I've got ITa ROM 1.35 and I've try to install also the new build of Opera taken from the last WWE, but the problem is still present.
After using Opera i'll go every time to kill the opera9.exe process if it's using 100% of CPU (not happens every time, but sometimes) and my device is all the day fast and the battery drain is "acceptable".

I've also noted that the device is really slow (almost freezes when going back to the home page) during 15-30 seconds after closing opera

15 / 30 seconds could be normal to close and clean opera process, but in my case many times the opera process remains up and running

Wifi wastes so many resources

My phone usually runs at 70% memory usage and when I turn the Wifi on it jumps to 85-90%, half the time when I'm using Opera with the Wifi it shuts down because it says too much stuff is open. I'm using the Swift WWE 7 ROM. Anyone know what's wrong?
buuuuuuump
70%!!!
mine usually runs at 50% ish
i'd have a look at what u have installed/running

When I look in the task manager there's nothing running
Does everyone else's run at 70% too or am I the only one??
Mine (standard UK "minimal" Orange ROM) with Contacts/Activesync/Pocket Informant/Outlook running shows 72%, which stays at 72% when I connect Wi-Fi.
IE adds 1%, Opera adds 3%.

That's weird I'd think WiFi would use at least SOME resources
I'm using swtos ROM and I'm running 50'ish normally. Before the ROM switch my phone used to run at 60ish sometimes, even 70 something - it would simply choke at those percentages - specially when I was surfing the net. Multi-tasking was nearly impossible. Thanks HTC.
It was almost not usable when wifi was turned on. Now I can surf and multitask easily with the new ROM.
I just switched Wifi on now and I'm running at 59%.

Can you link me to that ROM, I might try it out. I'm using Swift which I thought was supposed to be one of the "best" but apparently not, unless I did something else that's messing it up

I've just reproduced those results - Wi-Fi isn't using any extra resources here.
I was running at 79% with ActiveSync, Album, Contacts, SMS/MMS, Notes, Tasks and Calendar
I had also previously opened up the Programs and System tabs (which even after closing bumps up the %).
When turning on the Wifi it only added 1%.
Might be worth switching ROM ?
Don't think it's the ROM. I am running SwiftBL 7.0 as well and turning on Wifi makes very little difference to resources
What pagepool settings are you using? Swiftblades ROMs come in 16mb and 0 mb (=dynamic) pagepool flavors. A higher mem usage is normal with these pagepools and unless your device actually feels slow it's nothing to worry about.
I'm using Duttys 2.8 CVSD presently. After 2 days without softreset it's at 72%, with internet sharing on. Device still feels snappy.
Whan using Wifi, do you also use Opera? It can be a memory hog sometimes. Since there are so many different builds, I'd look into if another build has better memory management.
Its not just ROM problem. my Raphael was having some troubles like that to.
( i sold mine, i dislike this device).
Seems, WIFI hard conf have a lot of QOS and package filters loaded ( look at driver rgu).
Some programs you use with streams, do the device almost unusable.
I get out almost all package filters from wifi and this stopped ( well, almost).
Just sharing acknowledgement, besides i dont have any more the device.
Here are some ROMS from Swtos. I used the second ROM in that list. As for Wifi and resources, I actually realized that mine does not use anything- unlike what I said in the previous post.

I'm not sure what my pagepool settings are, how do I check? And yes I do use Opera.
Is there any software that can backup every single thing on your phone (settings / contacts / contact pictures / etc) so when you update ROMs you don't have to do everything over again?
How to measure mem usage
Hi,
How do I measure memory usage. When I add up the memory usage in task manager I get 40mb, but the htc website says the diamond has 192mb memory -- am i really only using this much?

Best Radio Rom for Battery life?

Anyone who's seen me in Rom threads probably knows that I usually ask the question about battery life, its like one of my obsessions... I want a phone that does a lot, but gets the most battery life too, probably not a winning combination, but it all helps!
I read on one thread that someone was using a radio version 1.10 and found it gave them better battery life then the new 1.13 with no loss of signal / gps.
Anyone got any thoughts?
1.13 radio
i just upgraded the radio in my hd to the new 1.13 from 1.09 and feel that the battery is a little better than before. i also currently running kwbr topix 1.0.1 wm6.1 rom. today will be the first full with that combo. i'll get back to you tomorrom on how the consumption is.
Have been using 1.13 since release and found no issues at all.
I am using Duttys 2.9 ROM and am getting 2.5 - 3 days of reasonably heavy use. Before i was getting 2 max before
Battery life sucks for me.....
2-3 days of battery life with heavy use.... i cannot even imagine getting that on my phone.
I dunno whats wrong with my phone .
I just updated to the new rom and radio from htc website.
Also, have disabled, wifi, data connections, active sync... all the stuff that take the juice out.
Also i am in NA, so also disabled 3g.
My setting are set manually for backlight and it is at the third point from the left.
I also have screen turn-off in 1min as well as switch off in 4 min.
In terms of program, i have pocket shield and incall touch lock program.
No after charging the battery to full.
This is wat i get,
Talk time- 30-45 min.
Music - 120 min. (S2P2 player)
Wifi - 10 min.
Now after almost 30 hrs.
battery is showing jst one bar.
==================================
Am sure what usage i mentioned above is definitely cannot be termed as heavy.
Let me know, if someone can help me to improve my battery life.

I'd do this too, its best to start with a rom, see battery life first without installing anything, then add bits one by one and you can usually eliminate the culprit!

i use the music player for about 2 hour's a day and use the phone for about 1-2 hours and i am nearly always on the net with it as well.
edit: @drgopoos, WiFi eats battery like you wouldn't believe so no wonder you dont get more than 24hrs. I once had WiFi on and plugged the phone in to sync with my PC and the battery still went down. What happens if you dont use WiFi. Surely you dont need it 24/7?
I too am in the same boat, can't really stretch much past half a day with a bit of music, websurfing and the occasional email. No WiFi, only 3G. I've loaded a few apps (TomTom, CorePlayer and PHM Regedit) and don't have Exchange or anything active. Running Dutty V3.6 XT and radio 1.14.25.24.
Watch your power settings! My sat-nav program turned off the "turn off device after xxx mins" option in there. I could hardly reach 24 hours with one charge since the device never really turned off. This was really annoying e.g. when a reminder popped up at night, or when the phone was out of my reach.
After I realized that and set my option properly (screen 30 secs/power off after 1 min) my device lasts at least 2 days with normal use and even 3-4 days at light use.
I use radio 1.14.25.24 on Duttys 3.4 XT

A-ha. I am getting 2 weeks with extremely heavy use.
Brightness is set to 100%, Wi-Fi and BT are always on. And I talk 24 hours a day also.
mine always have some strange consumption of power when I leave it through the night
before I go to bed it would be around 50% but when I wake up (5 hours later without running any programs of course) it drop to Battery very low
I'm using Radio 1.14, when I was on 1.13 I'm not experience that problem
I got the feeling that the newer radios use more battery. I've just downgraded to version 1.09.25.14, which I think was the original one that came with the phone. I will let you know my experience with that.

Even with stock rom I would get no where near this, and I doubt anyone else would. I've used all Throys roms and yes it may be possible to get battery usage to maybe 2 - 2.5 days when left on standby but with heavy use!!! Extremely doubtful.......what do you classify as heavy use? Leaving it alone on standby locked in the cellar so no one can touch it!!
god, i'm happy when i make it through the day, meaning 12-16h without recharging, little to no music, hour or 2 msn, some net, normal call/sms, few weather updates....best i got was about 36h on Lost In Asia v5, generally Titanium seems to drain less then Manila :/
i could see getting 3 days if i buy 2 more batteries....or never unplug it from my laptop/socket :/

only two weeks ??? Your battery is probably broke !
Lil feedback with Lost in asia V5 and radio 1.14.25.24
around 36 h with heavy use
around 48 h with normal use
But i noticed that 4 things eat a lot my battey:
-when i check my mail and when the connection is bad ...
-when my HD is connected to my pc by usb
-when i'am in subway because sometimes it's edge, sometimes HSDPA etc...
- Wifi of course !
By the way, manila eat more battery than titanium...

perhaps you have a battery plus, or a special hd
I have suffered with battery life as well... Can never get past a day to be honest & I have tried almost every ROM from here including WM6.1 & 6.5. I use my phone mostly for music, little bit of gaming and web surfing. It is connected to net all the time though, because I have unlimited data plan. I normally leave home at 8:30 in the morning & till then the phone stays plugged in with the charger over night.
On the way to work and back I listen to music with normal 3.5mm headphone & sometimes play xtract or watch movie. The journey time is around 40 mins each way. I actively surf internet for around 15mins during break, not every day though. My emails get automatically downloaded after every 2 hours from 4 different providers. AND THAT'S ABOUT IT.
By the time I get home at around 6 in the evening the battery level is generally at around 65% and I consider this as light use.
Is there any chance to improve it?! I don't wanna buy those huge batteries which shatters the sexyness of the device.

!!Read post 14 (maybe solution)!! - Strange Battery Behaviour with battery tools

Hello
I have new diamond 2 for three days. It's very good machine, but i've one serious problem with battery. I try to explain the strange behaviour of it:
1) Battery life is too short. I have read in this forum, that battery life is amazing. I dont have this opinion. My topaz's battery life is about 3/4 of a day (standard using)
2) battery behaviour 1 - sometimes i have battery % value another than after restart. For example i have now 50%. When i do soft reset i will have 35%. After second soft reset i will have 42%. Maybe i have problem with battery calibration or something like that. Or ROM is bad.
3) battery behaviour 2 - many times my battery freeze at specific % value (for examlple 40%). At first i though that is amazing battery life. Buuut no. After few hours still was there value 40%. So i tried soft reset and i saw only 16%. I really don't know what is this problem about.
I tried ariel battery bar, which is very simple program and i didn't have problems with it in the past (when i had kaiser). But here was the same problem. Value on Ariel battery bar freezed too. After softreset there was another value. Maybe i will try hard reset in the future....Now i am trying to format battery with process of fully charge and discharge. Maybe it helps.
Has someone the same problem like me?
Detail of my official ROM:
ROM ver: 1.39.479.1 (47382) WWE
ROM date: 04/07/09
Radio ver: 3.43.25.19
Protocol ver: 61.20t.25.10U
Many thanks for help
PS: i had hermes, 2x kaisers in my past, but this kind of problem i haven't had til now. hmmm
Can you list any applications you have installed or is it still original and out of the box with no applications apart from the standard ones?
How did you perform your initial charge ?
I always perform mine by doing a full charge - letting it drain and then back on charge
This happens for the first week - even if it goes flat in the car, I will not plug it in the car charger until I get home and can do a full charge!
Once the first week is done, I charge normally which at the moment has been every 2 days
Did you do something similar?
I have read on here someone else having issues which is potentially down to the battery so it might just be you have a duff battery
thank you for quick response
Apps:
G-alarm
Total Commander
Core Player
Dictionary
MyLight
Nothing special installed. I think at first i must do a hard reset because i must exactly know if this will be on fresh ROM.
First charge - as usually - it was the same like you.
Now i am charging and here is the same strange problem. I am charging now for 2 hour and battery is only on level 50%. So, now i am going to do soft-reset..............few second...................tadaaaa i have 100%. This is not normal. Here is something bad.
But thanks for you help.

I was going to suggest the hard reset route - this would determine if its software or not.
I will say that charging from empty takes a hell of a long time on the TD2! I'm thinking without even timing it, that it is taking around 4-5 hours to charge up ... and thats on mains!
Are you doing a soft-reset while it is plugged into the mains to charge?
Also is it doing this on usb charge (try another cable and NOT the one supplied for the charger)
Have you been using Opera. If so how have you been closing it. Did you go to menue exit or just hit the X? I ask because I found that hitting the X did not fully close it and when I went back to it it was still at the same page and not relaoding my home page.
Also did you set X to close the programs automatically or do you have to hold X to shut the program down?
It is also my 3rd day with the phone but have used internet a lot and the battery seems to be good. I also have been playing lots of games. I have done an initial Full charge and let it drain.... A full charge again let it drain... and last night it got a full charge.... My battery is Full at the moment. Today I have used it mildly for the web.... Like less than 15 min and have played games for about 10. A few calls and that's it. I can say it's doing better than my Elfin has.

Good point - Just for your reference, in the settings menu > advanced settings> System> Task Manager > Button tab
You can set the X to close rather than minimise - I have always set this to be the case so that when I close a program, it does close!

result - this case showed that some battery apps/tools causes problens with compatibility battery meter vs. these apps..,

Hi power consumption with clean rom

Hello i recently bought an older xperia x1. The problem is that the battery is emty in really shor time (10 hours), so i bought a new one. But the problem is the same.
I tried Kovsky unoff rom, also official rom.
Also tried clean rom with nothing installed and no settings changed, also some power management apps for win mobile.
Everything is turned off, wifi, data connection...
abcPowermeter shows 150mA power consumption, also when display is off.
taskmanager shows only 5-10% CPU usage for gwes.exe, i think thats normal when rendering results from taskmanager and all other CPU is for idle process.
I dunno what to try to solve this problem. Any ideas ?
My guess is you are running an always active program (like an IM program) that is sucking juice.
You may want to do a clean install and run it for a couple of days. See if the problem is your hardware or if it is that some software is the cause.
My battery life has improved from about 11-12 hours to about 48 hours after removing Palringo from my startup folder.
Also you mentioned you tried a clean ROM with no installed programs. If you didn't install any and you consistently have short battery time you have a hardware issue. Do the hard-reset, flash, hard-reset to ensure a clean install. Use a good ROM and do not install any apps. If after 4 days you still have short battery life then either your battery is dying (or generic and bad quality) or you have a hardware fault.
i tried hard-reset, flash, hard-reset. No changes
150ma idle is quite high IMHO. I run a test before because someone question my roms' battery usage and it should be around 80ma idle. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4784976&highlight=battery#post4784976
1. load the same radio.
2. Install Homescreen ++
3. Follow the conditions I tested over that post and see what you got.
Make sure you are in an area with good GSM signal too. Bad signal could lead your phone use a lot more power.
BTW, I found FDC task manager may not report real CPU usage especially if problem with services.exe. Try Memmaid to read CPU usage.
That acbpowermeter is a cool app. I never realized the panel I was using used so much power, and I didn't think having wifi on would consume as much as it did. Right now I'm using the WM6.1 that came with my phone and using the SonyEricsson panel with wifi off, and I'm getting an average of 70-80mA with the display on. Is this a good number?
I was looking into flashing to a 6.5 rom. Would I be getting better or similar battery consumption than the 6.1? If not, I think I'd rather just stay on 6.1 and customize my today screen with some eye candy, etc.
@jackleung
tried your radio with your rom, power consumption is even bigger, than in stock rom

Weird CPU loads and system lag in 2.2 FroYo

I have been seeing odd periods of heavy cpu use and I am unable to pinpoint the reasons. systempanel is not showing any out of control apps, but sometimes shows prolonged heavy use of the cpu; often at 100% use. (also everytime I charge the device history shows 100% use the whole time, I do have dock mode active though) Often times when I see 100% load, the history shows it starting when I open systempanel, but systempanel is not showing heavy use according to its personal history chart. I contacted the dev and he is looking into it, but does not believe it is the app. The system my lag at these times, but does not become unresponsive. After a fresh reboot, systempanel seems to show normal cpu loads even when active and in the foreground, but after a time it shows 100% every time I open it. (and history shows the high use starts when I open the app, but sometimes the chart does show moderate heavy use around 50% before systempanel is even started, so I can not be sure if systempanel is the cause)
I have also been having odd slow downs and lag that a kill all command from a task manager will not fix, but a reboot does. (I am thinking this lag corresponds to random high cpu use, but because of the above unreliability of systempanel I can not know.
It seems to happen over time, like a memory leak but with cpu and system load.
Anyone else having this problem in FroYo?
Systempanel is the only app that I know of that has that level of detail about what is going on in the phone, so I can not check it against another app.
OK i was just curious and downloaded systempanel and looked at the cpu usage. First i have a uptime of 88 hours exactly. the cpu usage is between 277Mhz and 450Mhz. I'm also using Froyo and everythinds is stock (kernel, Rom).
SO maybe there is a app that isn't showing his cpu usage? i don't use any taskiller so i don't kill anything.
I have a task killer to kill any apps that go haywire. I found another app to check against systempanell it does not have logging but I can check current stats.
Guess I'm the only one?
Ok since installing a second active monitoring app, the weird cpu loads are gone; things seem normal. Both apps seem to show the same results. Though I still feel that the cpu load being at 100% the entire time the phone sits on the charger is unnecessary.

I've had unusual cpu pegging (started a thread about it too). Four forced reboots so far.

You still got it? i think there has to be a faulty app not that people got this problem, you are the only 2 i heard from though.

Yes, just today my gtalk froze with 100% cpu when switching to it. Had to force power off after waiting about 3 mins (power+vol down+trackball)
I am having the EXACT same problem, I was actually browsing through here to see if anyone else was getting it as well before i started my own thread...
it started yesterday actually and I am wondering if it is the new .0.4.2 launcher pro beta because i just put that on yesterday and i had no problems with .4.1
that is my speculation, can anyone confirm?
its probably not your launcher, I'm on ADW. Will try Launcher2 and see if it is better...
