Hi Guys,
I just had my kaiser replaced and i went to flash HardSPL on it and I keep getting an ERROR [262] : UPDATE ERROR. It keeps referring to communications error and then gives me the steps to recover. I have flashed my previous Kaiser plenty of times. I have tried the original HardSPL and the new updated one. My sim card is out, my microsd card is out and Activesync is connected on my winxp machine. Please help. Thanks
Please post your question in the HardSPL thread that already exists. I had this problem myself last week, so check the thread and you will see how I fixed it.
I'm guessing you have already been through this thread, if not read it first. Try the Force USB and see if it fixes the problem. I have done 10 or 11 Tilts and these directions have always worked.

I am new to completely flashing a custom ROM. I've been trying to flash a new ROM on my tilt, with the latest AT&T updates(ROM 1.62.502.0 Radio 1.27.14.09). Each time I try to flash a custom ROM I get Error 262 Update Error. The progress bar never gets past 0%. I've tried multiple PCs and tried reinstalling ActiveSync. Am I missing something, or do I have to do something first before being able to flash the new ROM?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

i suggest u read all the wiki's and stickies regarding flashing a custom rom before taking any action...u obviously havent read it or havent got a good understanding of it which is why ur getting this error...and btw..i also suggest u search for solutions rather than just posting a thread like this which can be answered through a brief search of the forums.

I have searched the forums over the past week or so. The solutions suggested such as soft reset, hard reset, reinstall activesync, switch USB ports, etc have not done anything. I also came across this thread:

which would suggest that I there is an incompatibility. I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of which radio version etc I would need to update to in order to update to a WM 6.1 ROM.
edit:yes I have run CID unlock.

AT&T 1.62.502.0 w/ 1.27.14.09 radio should flash fine on any Tilt even without CID unlock, since it's signed by AT&T. While I'm glad to hear your phone is CID unlocked, it's still strongly suggested that you flash HardSPL & Security Unlock your device.
Regarding your current issue, have you:
* Tried another computer to flash from?
* Entered tri-color bootloader mode on your phone prior to flashing? You can find out how to on the wiki.

My error 262 fixed
I don't know if this is the best place to put this, but I didn't want to open a new thread.
I too had been getting repeated error 262. And I spent a couple of hours searching for answers, and while there have been many questions raised on this subject, there have been few clear solutions (and certainly none that worked for me).
I have the HTC branded Kaiser installing from Vista. (By the way I am new to this, but as I had such a hard time working this out, I thought I should at least post what worked for me.) I unlocked the CID with pof's Hard-spl v1 tool. Then (as I want to stay with Mobile 6.1) I upgraded the hard spl to v3.28 by JockyW. I then downloaded a number of Roms I wanted to try. That is where the trouble started.
Each ROM I tried would get past the tri-color screen with no problem. Then it would hang at the 0% until finally showing the error 262. A soft reset would reload my previous rom unchanged. I tried many things: removing all USB's, firewall, virus protection, hard reset, reboot windows, every suggestion I could find (and understand).
While the hard spl I had should have worked, I thought I should try version 3.29. When trying to upgrade to that I had a similar problem with error 260 this time. Looking over spl update instructions I realized I had forgotten to uncheck "disable usb connections" in "Activesync" at the proper stage. Once that was unchecked, the new spl loaded. After that I was able to load the cooked roms with no problem.
It appears there was something wrong with the HardSPL v3.28 I was using or in how I installed it. The tricolor screen was showing 3.28. In any case, after I reinstalled a new hard spl (this time 3.29), I had no more error 262.
A bit long-winded, but hopefully this might help someone else.

I have tried and tried and tried to flash mi tilt, and no luck. I've followed the intructions(let me guess well if you followed the instructions then you shouldn't be having a problem? save it.) It's not working! :[[[[[[[[ It keeps giving me the error 262 update error. I did what the solution said to do which was to soft reset and enter bootloader, and i did that but still no luck. I 'flashed' wm6.1 i think well installed it from htc's website and it worked and stuff, but i hate it! It is so laggy when i text and it keeps going into sleep mode after 10 seconds or the backlight goes dim after 10 seconds i've tried fixing it with what htc says to do but it still does it after 10 seconds. AND kaisertweak wont work it says the file is corrupt; i've tried re-installing it so many times i threw my phone!!!! ;[ It still works but it has a dent on the side. It doesn't bug me Anyway, someone has to have a solution for all this! PLEASE!!! AND THANK YOU in advance. I also followed the instructions on 'flashing for newbs' and still no luck. If you need info on my phone here it is: WM6.1, (when entering bootloader with the power+camera+SR) 3.56, THE PHONE IS UNLOCKED(as in i can use t-mobile, verizon, etc.), and that's all i can remember lol. Oh yeah one more thing, i can't seem to get rid of the 'bloatware' :'[ I've tried many so-called 'solutions. :'[ no luck. HELP!
This is the second " help me with my phone " thread you have started in the rom development section. You are not developing a rom or aiding a chef in developing a rom. So stop starting new threads here. Your last one was locked, and so will this one. This is not the I'm a noob , help me section. If you are having a problem post it in the flashing for noobs thread. There is no problem that you are having hat hasn't already been addressed in that thread.

You figured wrong, twice apparently, so Mr. Denco was showing you your failures in figuring. You got the "attitude" for posting in the wrong section TWICE.. When a mod closes or moves the thread, they explain why..

and try to change my rom for the official HTC win 6.5 FRA but in bootloader mode I only get a white screen with a message in blue "Loading..." and nothing else after 40 min!!

I went to the HARDSPL using a friend's laptop with activesync. The tutorial says activesync must be connected to the phone when launching HARDSPL. Once I launch HARDSPL, the connection by activesync is lost and I got ERROR 260
I have tried with activesync on XP and the new application on win &..All same error
I don't think this post is going to last long, since the thread where you originally posted was the correct place for it.
You said you had no answer, but that's not true, you had at least one answer from mskip, and I also made a suggestion to which you made no response other than asking if you should give up.

It is a GSM phone, right ? Not a Worldphone (CDMA/GSM, which has a SIM card slot but needs a CDMA HardSPL and ROM) ?

i've got a problem... i have tried to flash hardspl (bootloader) on my x1 but it doesnt work.
i have tried it like i read in the forum in different threads but i cant enter bootloader and when i start hardspl on my pc and take step by step as the program says... after the progression bar came - my phone display goes black and the front panel starts to shine and after a time i get a connection error on the hardspl program...
can anybody pls help me????
did you take out your micro sd card out of your phone?

Several time ago i got that error too, but i never give up. Try another hardspl for xperia, when u click it, it will auto generate to extract some file, just click romupdate utility and follow the same procedure.
If still got some error, try install it from a fresh computer with usb 2.0 installe and active synch.
You just got that error becouse there is some miss connection with another usb device.
UPDATE: it worked
So I did a hard reset on the phone (settings-> clear storage) and then tried again. Worked like a charm. Installing ROM right now!

I've been having a lot of issues upgrading to the Energy.RHODIUM.29007.Sense.2.5.Cookie.2.0.Jan.23.7Z for my Tilt 2. I've tried everything on the "Flashing your First GSM Rhodium Rom" post, and I have been unsuccessful. Even the HardSPL download have failed. My Active Sync will not stay connected when attempting the to download the ROM, receiving a 262 Update Error. The Rhodium HardSPL Flash will not sync with my phone, first receiving error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item" - now after deleting and redownloading the HardSPL file, there is no file found. I rufuse to give up on this upgrade, so can you please help me?
Try a different USB port bro... that solved the similar issues I was facing..
If you're having Hard SPL issues, then why not post in that thread? Read the first two posts of that thread carefully.
