screen turning darker - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi,
When I start the TD, after 5-6 seconds the screen turns a bit darker...
I find this too fast... Can I change the value?
Thanks

Dude come on!! just go to settings-->system-->power-->advanced.
Now get the hell out a here before you get burned!

hey... no... this isn't correct...
values are set to 30 and 40 seconds..
My screen dimms a bit after 6 seconds already... to turn off after 30 seconds... so this can NOT be the place to change this setting.
Hope I don't get killed

could be the lightsensor that automatically fits the brightness of your device according to your environment.

Never tought about that... could be possible... Thanks

True, that's the way it works... It remembers your last environment, then adjusts to the new one.

Wizard as a flashlight?

I didn't get the wizard for the camera, so the fact the flash is really nothing more than a flashlight doesn't bother me. However, it did occur to me that it would be really nice if you could turn that light on/off with a softbutton or from the start menu.
I know, it sounds weird, but I find myself using it as one periodically.
I guess I ought to look around and see what it takes to code for this thing ...
I wanted to use it as a flashlight, but I got more light from the front screen so I never got around to turning on the flash.

bad idea ...the camera flash/led will only last 10 minutes of continuous use then get dim and die. the led is crap. it a known fact .
sorry
A program that would make the screen completely white would work well. I had a similar program on an old Nokia phone I used to have.
if you start the camera and turn the flash on, then hit the power button on top it will put the phone it sleep mode. as soon as you need the light again, hit the power button and it comes right back on. works great when im djing and i forgot my mini flashlight or those batteries died.

This app made the screen white on my Compact to use as a torch, no idea if it works with the Vario as well.
edit: Meschle beat me to it. Some people can't be beaten by a humble noob like me.

The one koksie posted loads faster, but the advantage with torch is that you can also use it to keep the backlight on, for say when you are playing a game and the backlight keeps going off - i find that so irritating! To do this you need start menu mapped to a hardware button - i use the comm button.
Ah, what a crew! I agree the screen can act as a good light as well, just seemed like I could put the virtually useless LED to use .
I'll give these a try, and thanks!

One day before I went to sleep, I put my wizard to charge and, dont ask me how, accidentally pressed camera button and somehow got the LED on. When i woke up 8 HOURS LATER i found my wizard sitting there with the LED on. It was turned on all night.
2 months later, It still works to date.
Perhaps they had a bad production run of them. Of course, with my luck, that's what I would have gotten!

The LED should have a very long life of about 100 000 hours at normal voltage. It will be excellent if somebody can develop a software to turn on/off the flashlight. I always us it as a torch.

Biolover there are enough stories on the forum of device led's burning out to put one off this idea - do a search and you will see what I mean  The quality seems to vary.
Its not hard to replace the LED though, the wizard can easily be taken apart.

Backlight bug

Hi all,
i have the Kaiser for a week, and was thinking the batterry autonomy isn't especially amazing..
Then doing some research, i've found out that that despite the backlight setting set to be turned off after 30 sec, it was NOT turned off.
Switching setting to 1 min doesn't help either.
Setting it to 10 sec DOES work, the backlight turns off after 10 secs, BUT turns back ON after various seconds (sometimes +/- 11 secs, sometimes after 21 seconds...), then 10 secs later again off, etc etc... (cycle forever).
I did removed from the today screen both SPB Mobile shell and HTC Home (today screen = blank). But the problem is still there...
so the questions :
1) Does anybody experience that (it took me a full week of use to note this... can you try it on your Kaiser ?)
2) Any idea/solution to fix this ?
Best Regards,
Mike.
Just letting you know, that mine works as it should.
I dont have that bug .... but another bug:
After soft-reset, the battery backlight will be set to 10 seconds.
No clue yet why that happen.
When having issues like that try a hard reset and do not use a back up just set everything back up by hand. I found that most apps still are not ready for WM6 just yet since it really is a new OS even though we have had it for what seems like a very long time now.

When you set the back light to turn off, it doesn't actually turn off, instead it drops to minimum brightness. If you are in darkish room and so have the backlight set to minimum anyway, it looks like it isn't going off.
This is by design for Windows Mobile 6 devices, the Toshiba G900 was exactly the same. I can only guess it is because the screens are not trans-reflective, so they dim to the lowest level so you can still make out what is on the display and can tell it is still on, rather than in standby. This makes the behaviour seem similar to those moving from trans-reflective displays as while the backlight could go out completely, you could still make out what was on the display.
Regards
Phil

Screen Dim (Solved)

Hey, is there ne way to change the screen dim time ? any app or ne way of prolonging it ? thnx (Im talkin about the screen diming, not turning off)
(Solved)...The screen dims approximately 5 seconds before ur screen timeout...so if ur screen timeout is 15 seconds then in preparation for tht it dims the screen at 10s after which it shuts of at 15. Thanx everyone.
Are you just wanting to change the brightness manually or by the time of day?

Imagine you are reading a interesting article on a Website.. Suddenly the screen turns off without any sign(or dimming). I have to press power button to turn it on. If it dims I'll know that it's going to turn on and I'll touch the screen to extend the timer.

well in that case u can increase the time out.
there is a conf file which controls the dimming level of the screen but dont remember the path as I am also new to XZR.
I remember for my previous XSP but in XZR its not available at that location

That's the fix I'm using for now. But I want a permanent solution. Isn't that dimming defaultly present in Sony stock rom?

How do you adjust the time the screen stays 'awake'?

My screen timeout is at ten minutes but the screen dims and turns off after 10 seconds and it's incredibly bothersome when trying to read an ebook for example. Have you encountered this? Any suggestions?
Edit: not a Always on display problem
Place AOD on schedule? So, not always on

It still dims after 10 seconds with the always on display off. Do you know of any setting that could change this in thynote9?
Are you using some power saving mode?
Doesn't AOD dim after a while after awhile so as not make the pixels burn unevenly long term? Just use a clock if you want it to be on long.

The problem is the screen dimming after ten seconds not the AOD display. I turned off the AOD display and it still dims too fast.

No,
Does this setting possible have anything to do with it. It used to be default 5 seconds for most phones. Is this possibly interfering with the dimming?

GO to Settings, advanced features and select 'Smart Stay' to on position.
Your screen will time out to whatever you've set it in display settings, but smart stay will stop that happening if it know you're watching something

That is better than before but still not what I want. I basically want the phone screen to be on until I turn it off or the amount of time I put on the screen timeout elapses. Is this just impossible on this expensive device?
Hi,
I'm afraid the max is 10min in screen settings.
The only other way is in developer options, then 'stay awake always' but this only allows this during charging(plugged in)
To enable dev option, you need to go to settings/about phone/software information, then tap build number around 7-8 times

This app is incredibly useful though I am worried about the battery usage. I'm going to use this. Thanks a lot!
