Hi guys,
I just picked up a Tilt secondhand to upgrade from my 8525.
The reception, when directly compared to the 8525 in the exact same location is pretty bad. When the 8525 has full signal, the Tilt only has 1 or drops signal alltogether (and of course the dropped/distorted calls to go with it). Ive never seen the Tilt go over 2 bars, and even thats rare. The tilt also almost never picks up 3G signal when the 8525 does.
First I thought it was a software problem so first I did a hard reset and then I upgraded to the latest WM 6.1 ROM w/ radio, but neither fixed it or helped.
Is there a hardware solution to this? Perhaps an internal antenna board that could have gotten disconnected? Im truly stumped by this problem.
Welcome to the Kaiser forum! Before the flaming commences, I will simply say this: Go to the Kaiser Wiki, research different radio versions and their compatibility, then try them all until you come across one that works best for your area.
Some more free advice: Do NOT ask for a radio recommendation, as each one performs different depending on the area. This includes creating a thread saying "People of RandomTown, Which Radio Works Best?"
What radio do I use???
ATTN: People of "1 mile outside Philadelphia = Cheap Car Insurance" what radio works the best?
Will it work if im 3 miles from "1 mile outside Philadelphia = Cheap Car Insurance"
*Update* the 1 mile outside Philadelphia = Cheap Car InsuranceRADIO.nbh
now works in 6 miles from cincinnati ohio!

Must suck to be you, I'm pegged at full bars most of the time.
My Tilt and 8525 are almost identical in terms of reception.

Anybody tried using GPS on the Kaiser on an airplane? How well does it pick up a signal?
Last time I checked I don't think you were supposed to turn that kind of stuff on in a commercial airplane..

This is not a question of the type of mobile phone.
GPS needs a free view all around of 45 degrees from the vertical.
So think of a cone, sitting on his peak, that’s the area of view
you must have to receive all the signals. An airplane is metal,
therefore no, or only some, or even no signals of satellites can
be received through the windows. You need signals from above
and not only from the horizon. Same applies for mobile phones
in an airplane. They need signals from below. Therefore seeing a
movie and they use their mobile phones in a airplane is nonsense.
Because it's physics and you can't cheat that.
There are rumors, some airlines will have repeaters for mobile phones
inside their airplanes. This is planned and not reality.
GPS repeaters can not be done with the technology we have today.
If someone claims 'GPS works in my house', OK, this is one of
this wooden houses you have in some areas of this globe ;-)
In my country (Austria) most of the houses made of concrete,
therefore the by intend weak GPS signal can not be received
inside a house.

Reception is spotty, depending on several factors. You can expect unreliable performance due to the airframe blocking signal.
cirial is wrong. The GPS is a receiver, not a transmitter and thus does not interfere with the operations of a plane. I worked on both aircraft avionics and GPS for a number of years.

So how come they made calls on 9/11 from the doomed planes?

In theory you are right - but still it works! I tried it with a Garmin GPSMap 60cx and it woked well because it got enough signals throufgh the windows - but yiu shouldnt sit in the middle of the plane...
As the Receiver of the Kaiser seems to be as sensitive as the one from the Garmin it should also work...
For me it did work as well! Without any problems! It's nice to know wehere you are and how fast your are going
Geko
Duno if this helps but this is from a Sirf III reciever placed in the window.
I had similar results with it in the seat back pocket....

I have discovered the HTC Advantage x 7501.
The only difference with the kaiser seem to be that its got a bigger Display.
Anyone aware of any other cons/pros. - or what BETTED DEVICE THERE IS ?
I need to sell my T-mobile VArio III
http://www.htc.com/product/03-product_x7501.htm
hmmm 16 gb version - X7510
Don't do it. I got one and sold it 1 month later. The TyTNII does all the same things and is more portable. The X7510 does look very interesting thought. I liked my X7501 but found it to be too much to carry around, and having to have a bluetooth headset on all day at work didn't work for me either.
Just my 2 cents.
ru serious? do You know the size and weight of this device??? the other thing is that You can use it as a phone only with headset or with built in loudspeaker, not in a normal phone-ish way.
vga and faster proc are pros, but the size is a real no go for me.
I might leave kaiser, but for some good multimedia device like upcoming nokia N96 or that sooo hyped new SE xperia.
br
bro
I'd prefer my Kaiser... more portable and it fits on my belt bag and it is a phone.
I wonder others seeing me speaking with a TV on my ear... he he
the advantage has been out for a while (what you linked to), but if you've ever seen it the thing is huge, the screen's like 5 inches, its like the size of an in-dash navigation. it is closer to a small laptop than a ppc.
I Have and use both. i like my advantage but it is a big big, if you are just goign to and from work then it is a good phone but if you go out to dinner or out on the town i like my tilt. both good phones, the very cool thing about the advantage is the screen so big so beautiful. and it have very good battery life. good for watching movies. it also have USB port for flash drive and have VGA out (as well as s-video) you can connect a keyboard and muse to it as well. all in all it is a very cool device. but kinda on the large side...
Just attach this to your Vario III:

lol. good sense of humor
I got an Ameo the day after they were released, kept it for 3 months, sold it and now have a Vario 3 (if I was rolling it I might have both) if you're only going to have one phone you should get the Vario 3.
Coz the Ameo (Advantage) isn't a phone.
And one day I might update my sig ;-)
Thanks for the replies guys,
I got fascinated by the Advantage’s screen – It keeps the Internet on hand ( I guess ). I agree that no browser at the moment can compete with the Iphone’s browser , but IE/Opera will catch up and when they do – Advantage will be a great device.
I do consulting and most companies do not allow to plug/carry notebooks. Something like the Advantage is what I need.
I also checked out HTC Shift – but that is another thread..
I just thought of what would be a great device. Imagine the Advantage as it is , except that you can take a part out of it , the phone part , and use it as a phone …

I personally love my ladies touch
Definetly Universal!
It´s not a new model, but not always the newest is the best
VGA big screen, fast processor, full keyboard.
It´s the best at least now
Cheers
i think the best one is the one that has the software you need. it isnt nessesarily how fast the car is, but the driver.
I love my wizard. everyonce in a while I see one come along that I drool over... untill I see how limited the oem software is.
although I kinda wish I had the euro kaiser. the one with the camera in the front (skype)
HTC Touch Diamond
If my touch dual had a FULL Qwerty, then I'd say the touch dual.
Universal all the way
Due to my work I get to work and play with all of your devices and at the moment have all the HTC models up to Universal right here in my toy box, starting with Smartphone edition. I always go back to Universal, despite the size. NOTHING beats that device. From time to time I put my SIM into something else just to keep the button/usage familiarity up to date, but each and every time I feel I miss my Uni too much to part with it for more than a day. me too.....
I owned an ATT tilt/kaiser for a month and sold it out of complete spite over it's lack of.. well.. everything. I reverted back to my mda/wizard and have not looked back. The wizard does far more and IMO is the best phone from HTC. unfortunately it's not 3G so i will probably go blackberry when tmo 3g gets to california. It's not worth the money for a 3g phone that i can't play doom or watch movies on (stupid tilt). 2 thumbs up to the wizard.
Have owned a Tytn, a Touch, a Kaiser, and now have a HP 614c, and for me it's the best one.

The Diamond is really nice. That's my next pda.
Isn't the upcoming raphael a diamond with a slide out qwerty? that ought to be nice
My Super TyTN (X01HT) with 1 month standby, see how it towers over the competition
After using any device Verizon has that is worth buying, I'm going to say the Touch/Vogue/xv6900. Lightweight, lots of memory (storage and RAM), I really like to flat and smooth screen (makes it easier to swipe the screen). Only two pieces missing on it are no Wi-Fi, and no flash on the camera, but I have an unlimited data plan and rarely pull out the phone to take pics in the dark, so my vote is the Touch!
Dont know but definitely NOT xda stealth which I have......
Ok guys I end up getting the lady her iPhone she wanted back and looking to move this Phone. I am not in a hurry to trade so I will be looking for offers.
It comes with original box, 2 stylus, mini usb expander, manuals, installation cd, screen protecter since day 1. It is FULLY UNLOCKED and ready for any SIM. As you can see on the screen I have my T-Mobile SIM in and works flawlessly. It has had a Screen Protector on it since day 1 also. No lowballing please.
I can also include a 4GB MicroSD Filled with other great Programs for you and Full On Garmin Mobile XT GPS Program with a Full North America Map for an additional $35 so you wont have to pay for the monthly GPS Service because I have GPS Unlocked and running. It is the Full Turn by Turn with Voice Commands. Just google Garmin Mobile XT if your looking for all its features.
I have also loaded it with a Custom ROM with Windows Mobile 6.1. This Phone is absolutely an amazing phone and kills the iPhone with all of its capabilities.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Can you post some larger pics? I can hardly see these.
ive been researching this phone the past couple days, and im highly interested in upgrading from my dash to the kaiser. im in the market for a new smartphone a) cause i am bored with my dash, done everything ive wanted to it and b) its slow. i have a low budget, id say 300 tops and everywhere ive looked to buy this phone is at least 400. ive tried lookin for promo codes and all that fun stuff, nothin. i dont want to buy one off ebay cause you never know what youre gettin off there. I have t-mobile and i dont know wether to get this or wait to get the diamond/touch pro... bottom line is i like this phone alot and im ready for a new one...
if i could have waited, i would get the touch pro..
at least from what i think i know
still avalible?
Is the phone still avalible? What would be a reasonable offer at this time if so?
Thanks,
Loretta
in the austin, tx area i normally have been getting around 700-800 from home and 400-500 from work using xtremelabs.
out of nowhere starting yesterday i started hitting around 1.6-1.7 from home and around 1.5-1.8 from work.
anyone else noticing a difference?

Well I know T-Mobile is rolling out full HSPDA in some area's. So might be why you are getting a boost in speeds. With 2 bars of 3g signal im getting 761 down 709 up. And I am in the 1B floor of a big building.
ok something isnt right here.....downloaded the speedtest.net app.
this is after a reboot:

i'm not gonna argue it. even if these speedtests are totally off i definately am noticing a difference
It's just a good HSDPA speed. If you weren't seeing it before - it means you have never been near HSDPA-capable base station.
I'm from Austin too...and just like you I was only getting 6-700 down and 2-300up. Now 2.19mb down and 1.3-1.4mb up. That's with only 2 bars here at work now. I'l go out side later and test. I get full bars out side and at home.
Your speeds are what I see everyday here on ATT in socal, so your area prob just got upgraded. But your ping certainly is impressive.
Yes, faster in Houston
Yesterday I noticed my speed was very fast here in Houston on T-Mobile 3G. I didn't think much more about it until about an hour ago and realized it was really fast. I did a speedtest and was pleasantly surprised. I'm getting great download speeds! I knew they were rolling out 4g in the Austin area but I wasn't expecting it here in Houston.
I used to range from 400 - 800 (using the latest froyo radio on 2.2). Today, I'm getting 1141 - 3500! I'm so happy.
