Email settings backup? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have a tendency to flash new ROMs every so often on my tilt, setting up my 4-5 different email accounts every time again is a pain...anyway to backup/export these settings/configs to some me the trouble? Tried spb backup and didn't work from old ROM to new ROM.
Thanks.

You basically need to create a provisioning XML. You can find a great program HERE that includes a tool called Makisu. It can create the XML for you, and the SASHIMI program can import it.
If you want to create your own XML to accomplish this (you can still use SASHIMI to import it.....or UC), then check the EMAIL2 CSPs section of this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1897000&postcount=3
And next time, you should probably search for yourself......and save US the trouble.

Can we include SPRITE TERMINATOR in ROM

Hi,
I think most of you are aware of the Sprite Terminator software ( its sends you a SMS of New SIM # and GPS co-ordinates incase of SIM Change - infact its software for protection )..
Now the question is - Can we include this software in ROM ??? incase if you lost the set and the other person even HARD RESET the device.... so we still remain be able to get the info about the new SIM and GPS location ?
Any Idea....
So, I presume its not possible... And we can not include software in ROM ???
Sprite Terminator is not freeware, and you would likely be violating the EULA by bundling it with these ROMs.

What about the open source utility mJustice (Mobile Justice) instead?
Well I have a legal copy of SPRITE TERMINATOR and i want to include it into ROM for my TYTN II device just to make it 100% anti theft SO that the theif can't get rid of it even after the Hard Reset.... All i am asking that HOW SHOULD I PROCEED ?
Doesn't seem feasible...
Even when MJ could be cooked in ROM, settings (allowed SIM's, phone number to which messages should be sent, etc.), would be lost after a soft reset. I'd say the only possible solution would be cooking your own ROM (including all the settings, of course).
Just my 2 cents
Alex has this tutorial to convert a cab to a oem package...cook it in yourself.

I never tried it, so I probably can't help you much with this.

Hi everyone, here is a package for Sprite Terminator 1.2. Use with KaiserKitchen or RaphaelKitchen. Because some settings are personalised (your parnered phone numbers and password etc), you will need to edit 6113774c-bec5-432d-983f-fe230b6f2228.rgu (file is inside attached st.zip) with your own settings. Anything in there with ****** you need to replace with your own personalised settings. To get your personalised settings, first install your purchased copy of Sprite Terminator and configure it.
Buy from www.spritesoftware.co.nz
Then open your registry and copy the config you found into 6113774c-bec5-432d-983f-fe230b6f2228.rgu.
Preserve the format in 6113774c-bec5-432d-983f-fe230b6f2228.rgu and just replace the **** entries with your own!
Don't forget to:
1. Ensure that there is blank line at the end of the text file
2. Wordwrap is OFF!
3. Save the file as unicode
4. Run the kitchen and cook!
This has been tried and tested!!

Unless you posted a package that requires a S/N to be entered prior to use, then I STRONGLY SUGGEST you take it down. This is considered warez, and the Mods will come down on you hard for it.

Good Point The Package Will be taken down, not because it has a serial, which it hasn't.
But because it is unclear at the moment, allows for the software to be redistributed and hosted on our servers.
The intention of the package is good but this has to be looked at more closely.
Thanks for your consideration.
Attached is the same package but without the resource files:
SGAgent.dll
SGStartup.exe
Sprite Terminator.exe
SpriteGuardResources.dll
SpriteTerminator.htm
This package should still explain how to add a Legal packaged to a ROM that is cooked for Private use in combination with the Legally owned License. (See Post# 8 )
going one step further ...
good idea guys, but i'd suggest not adding the uninstall information, nor adding a program shortcut - this might give you needed time to locate your device. i guess even the most stupid must get worried if it reads "Sprite Terminator" in programs list, why should we confuse people ;-)
greetz peet
the most you need to include terminator into rom is the registry file (rgu) settings and it would be a good idea to remove the shortcut made in startmenu folder, so a thief does not get warned before action has taken place
Remote Tracker is similar to Sprite Terminator but MUCH better. It has all kinds of features that Sprite Terminator does not (ftp, remote wipe, remote execution of mort script commands, etc). Best of all, it is freeware, and even has an OEM made for cooking into ROMS. Check it out:

Why are you in 2 separate threads asking them to be closed as duplicates? And even worse, neither thread is actually a duplicate.
Yes, Remote Tracker has its own thread, but this thread is about cooking Sprite Terminator into a ROM. There is ONE post in this thread about Remote Tracker, and all it is doing is informing people of its exististence, not discussing it.
This is NOT a duplicate.
Seems the new desire hd has this or a very similar feature

Essential processes for AT&T Tilt Users after each rom flash

Essential processes for AT&T Tilt Users after each rom flash
I know this has been mentioned thousands of times throughout this forum yet n00bs often need assistance fixing their hardware keyboards, email, HTC weather, quick gps, and so on after they flash a new rom for the first time.
While hanging out in Bansville for a couple of days I realized I have been answering the same questions continuously. This is a mini text tutorial, which offers simple fixes for imperative AT&T settings.
So you installed a version of hardspl, flashed a new rom, and performed a hard reset. What next? Well primarily in all probability, you want to make sure the clock settings are in am and pm format and the date is set to m/d/y. To change your clock settings follow this navigation
Start>settings>system>regional settings>time tab>time style drop down set to h:mm:ss tt
To change your date setting:
Start>settings>system>regional setting>date tab> select the date style of your choosing and select ok.
Next, I like to restore my files such as my appointments, contacts, text messages, etc. I personally prefer to use PimBackup. Below is a .zip file for PPCPimBackup. It is an uncomplicated program to use and a lecture is unnecessary to navigate throughout this application, as it is straightforward.
After I restore my files, it is time to inaugurate the Tilt keyboard fix, which repairs your slide-out QWERTY keys to be mapped correctly. For example, without this fix Fn+W will appear as ! opposed to @. Below is the cab file you need to install to remap the keys appropriately. Following the installation of this cab file, perform a soft reset.
The next thing I usually do is correct my connection settings. First, I install ATT_Settings.cab, which you can find below. Then I navigate to the following:
Start>settings>connections>connections>select the advanced tab>select networks>Change both drop downs to Media Net> select edit on both drop downs>proxy settings tab>uncheck everything for both media nets that you changed>then hit ok or x when you are finished.
At this time, I set up my email. However, remember NOT to save your password, you will do this in the following step. If you are using HTC HOME, most likely you are, select the little envelope and create a new account. You can find your email settings by using google if you are using pop3 or whatever.
Next, after I set up my email without saving the password, I install removehiddenproxy.cab, which you can find below. This cab file is important as it allows your pop3 email account’s password to save without adding extra characters, allows for your quickgps to function properly each time, and it also allows you to use HTC Home Weather without getting a connection failure. So install this cab then go back to the email you just set up, edit the account setup, enter your password, and save it. Now, go back to your today screen and tap your weather tab. Now tap Select City and select your city (*Note there are a few patches available to select your town if you do not live in a big city). Anyhow, notice the menu button where your right softkey is, select menu and turn your temperature scale to Fahrenheit and select done.
I suggest setting up your WiFi at this time too.
Well this is my mini tutorial for a basic setup on your AT&T Tilt after you flash a new rom.
Have Fun Flashing and Take Care.
*Special thanks to the creators of these cab files and JimmyMcgee for teaching me the basics.
Am I missing something too?
Is there something to do regarding getting a reasonable GPS fix after flashing newer 6.1 roms or is it a known problem. I keep flashing down to older 6.0 roms with 1.27.14.09 radio because of the faster GPS fix. I would love to use the newer roms but GPS fix time is a deal breaker for me. To save you some time I use SPL 3.28 with 6.0 roms and 3.56 with 6.1 roms. I bounce between Q-mobile and RomEos roms now that we lost dutty. Ive tried all the newer radios and personally they all stink for GPS. Sorry about your brief ban and welcome back, I need your wisdom

AWESOME. I keep saying I need to: Start fresh, get NetCF 3.5, get a light rom. But it all seems so complicated to go from current configuration to start over completely, but this will help a lot! Thanks! Now to find the time and the 'right' ROM.
Thanks very much for the reminders, and for the CABs. I flashed my first 6.1 ROM last night, and forgot all about the hidden proxy!
I agree that this really needs to be a sticky...
This is a good tutorial, but here is a good side note to add.
By removing the hidden proxy (which ya do with the removehiddenproxy cab), Tilt users won't be able to get to media net (http://device.home or http://home) or cingular video as the hidden proxy is needed for those.
Then they should just use the Restore Proxy, and that will allow MEdiaNet.
Proxy Manager has both in it.

Been having the same issue and finally I think got a break. Tried about 10 SR's and the lock times are steady inside the house.
BTW using DK2
does windows mobile have a localhost file like windows? would remapping those to their needed servers allow the bypassing of the proxy?

edit: works ok here my friend. Unzip the file to your desktop and move it to your storage card then run the program hopefully it works for you.

I deserved the brief ban.
Anyhow, I noticed that when running 6.1 roms with the Tilt you need an application such as HTC GPS Tool or GPS Test, to open your internal gps, prior to opening your GPS Software.
These are the steps I use to utilize a GPS Fix after each soft reset:
1) download latest updates for quickgps
2) Open GPS Tool>com 4>baud 4800>Hot Start>Then click Open and wait like 30 seconds
3) Open TT7
*If you fail to get a fix after following these steps close all programs and repeat. Eventually you should be getting fixes within seconds.
I've attached GPS Tool for you, good luck.
What exactly does the remove hidden proxy cab do on AT&T Tilts? If you go into your connection settings and uncheck the proxy server- is that the same thing or something different than the cab file does?
Hey Red,
I attached an ATT settings cab which does not enable the proxy by default, and also enableds creation mode in MMS settings. I thought it might be helpful for your thread here. Also, it may seem too advanced for beginners, but i have a thread started here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418468
This has a step by step guide to how to create an xml file using Schap's Advanced Config 3.0, which can be used to provision all of your advanced config preferences during your UC setup. This tool has really made it very easy to do reduce the amount of work that goes into flashing.
I also attached a cab for total commander, a free, more full featured file explorer; gps test, another gps tool; and advanced config 3.0. Hope it helps.
Thanks... this is a great thread!!!

It removes a HIDDEN proxy, one that you can't remove without a cab. Without it enabled you can't connect to medianet home, and some other things. Most users like to disable it for a myriad of reasons, one of which is that it causes you to be unable to browse while connected to your laptop.
The box that you check in connections is a separate issue, and i think that is actually just old settings, i'm not sure, since even on the AT&T website it tells you no not to have that checked.

Awesome. So, if I run the cab and remove the hidden proxy- can I then tether my laptop (connect to the net using the Tilt's data)- without getting caught by AT&T? Or is there more to tethering without getting caught?

[?] - Master list of configuration files for backup [Lumos, Gyrator 2, etc...]

Hey all,
I've run a couple searches and can't seem to find the answer to this question:
Is there a master list of the file names of configuration files for applications like Lumos, Gyrator 2, and others?
The reason I'm asking is that, after a ton of Rom flashes, I'm finding that it takes forever to get each of these aps reconfigured. It would be great to back up XML files, .ini's, or something along those lines for them to my storage card and then copy them back over after a flash.
Any ideas? Thanks!
Same question here....!
Would be great to have an answer.
Try the Sashimi application to save files and registry settings and restore them manually or automatically. It may have a steep learning curve, but once you've put in the effort, it saves you much more time in the long run. Have a look at the contents of my Sashimi filebackup.ini and regexport.ini to get an idea. Good luck!

Definitely Sashimi. Find it here http://www.winmo-experts.com/. There are video tutorials on how to use which I'd recommend watching, then dive in.
UC is pretty good too, will do all the same stuff and most ROMs support it. However, I've been far more successful going beyond simple cab installs with Sashimi. And, it works with all ROMs.
Weather sites, and program tab button assignments are stored in the registry. Also, under the Application Data there is good stuff stored such as media databases and stock tab.
One of the tricks for determining reg settings is to export your registry before and after you make a change, then using Windiff to compare them. Windiff is free and can be found here http://www.grigsoft.com/download-windiff.htm. It takes a while to get all of your reg edits figured out, but it is worth the time once you do.
Hope it helps.

Save People list in TF3D?

Anybody found a way to save the People list in TF3D so I do not need to re-add everytime I hard reset.
excellent question. I've wonder for quite some time for that same answer. Perhaps if you do a backup with Sprite back up might do. Since I left the tilt (kaiser) for the fuze (rafael) haven't ever used sprite back up. I know every back up used to take somewhat like 30-40 Mb... now the question is to locate a cab for it and test it if it backs up those contacts.

I don't use backup apps.. I would need a scheduled full backup everyday to have the latest restore, coz I wouldn't know when a app would hang my WM.
Besdes, backups are not effective against firmware upgrades. In fact, its not advisable.
I use Sashimi for applications and settings restore. I would like to know if there is a file to backup for that portion. I know I can't find it in registry.
PIM.vol holds your contact info as well as TF3D faves. Copy it to storage card and copy back after flash. This DOES NOT contain messages. So you would still need to backup messages with pim backup(or similar app) unless you can somehow copy cemail.vol. I havent been able to do it on Fuze, but there is a script arpound here that will help copy it(since it is in use by system from boot).
+1 on the PIM vol comment.
Furthermore give SPB Backup a shot (it's NOT free). I use SPB Backup since my Tilt/Kaiser times and even under the latest TF3D2 after a restore all contacts under the people tab including the assigned images were flawless restored.
And it is possible to restore backup on phone where you cange your ROM?
I think that you have got old ROM so you make a backup and then you change ROM in phone and restore backup.
Is any problem with this?
would overwriting the pim.vol create duplicates following a rom upgrade and then syncing with contacts on an exchange server?

DON'T do it even the most sophisticated backup / restore software WILL overwrite settings tweaks and worst case features of the new ROM, especially the little tweaks and tricks the chefs put into them.
Use PIM backup and start reading about UC or Sashimi and what other tricks can be performed to recover quickly after a ROM flash.

.
Can happen and may not happen. If you have everything synced with Outlook make a PIM backup just for security reasongs (in case the new ROM may not sync). Flash, install all your apps and tweaks sync with outlook (in that particular order). This WILL take care of contacts, not more not less. OTHER email programs you may use (google, hotmail) will NOT come back with this method.

Lost my tasker settings

Hi all,
I factory reset my phone, and when I tried to restore my tasker data, I found out that I had made the wrong kind of backup. Some months ago, I created a <TaskerData.txt on my Google Drive, and from what I see, it contains my tasker profiles and tasks etc.
However, I don't know how to restore it. A three year old post told me to save it as .xml but Tasker does not accept it when I try to import it. I also tried renaming it to .prj.xml, but then I got the message 'a project with that name already exists'.
t took me a REALLY long time to create the task, and I am not able to replicate it now
The xml file can be found on drive.google.com/open?id=0B3vpU2RTv0PSdUJMQWhLZ2M4VU0
Please, could anybody help?
Wait, I found the solution myself... Just copied the various projects and tasks out of the xml file into new files with names ending in prj.xml and tsk.xml... And now I can import them one by one.
Thanks anyways!
