GSM or GPRS ???

G = GPRS
3G = er... 3G
H = HSDPA

Means you are on GSM network. The small G means your data connected via GPRS.
The big G can change depending on your cellular network and coverage
U - UMTS
3G - 3G
H - HSDPA
more info by reading the manual.

As well as...
GPRS is possible when u r in GSM, because it's an extension of the 2G Net (also GPRS is called 2,5G). UMTS is possible when u r in 3G.
The second small "G" says that u r in Internet with GPRS. So if u don't have a cheap contract, u will have costs, when u see this. Klick on that icon to disconnect.
The first big "G" on the left of the small "G" only says, that u already have connected today to the GPRS Net. Normally billing in GPRS is that u have to pay one time a day for connecting to the net, an then only paying for the amount u download. But there are also time based billing contracts.
If you don't have any cheap contract for mobile Internet, you can disable all Internet connections with tools like NoData or AdvanceConfig. So autoupdates have no chance for causing costs.
Hopefully i didn't tell u something wrong and could help u
EDIT: Too slow

tnxxxxxxxx all

G for Gangsta
and
3G = 3 times Gangsta ...

How about E?I got two letter E on tast bar .First on is big another one is smaller.

Well, E=Edge

To clear up: G is GPRS, wich is not 2,5G, EDGE is. 3G and UMTS is the same.

make the E

anyway to make the E go bye bye?
or like...3G, G....etc

It just means your on the edge network.
i know what it means...is there anyway to make it go away?
do you mean to remove it from the bar? if it is so i dont know xD..
but... theres a reason for do that?
yea..i want it gone...i want there just to be the battery icon and the signal quality, sound, time, task
yeah i wish we could get rid of this too it's a waste of space in the upper bar. Expecially since it shows the "E" "G" or whatever in the signal strength area too.
Wisbar advance can do this and much more.
Here's my today with signal on the left side and connection, date/clock, today and close button on the right.
err, i want to keep my homescreen how it is now.....
here is an example of what i want.
As far as I know, you can't edit your top bar without replacing it (by using Wisbar), since there's no option for it within the Windows OS.
whats up dude!
alrighty...i give up then...if anybody finds a way please post in this thread...
i just realized...if i do make the logo go away...it wont display when I'm connect to wifi...so maybe I'm better off just leaving it.
It's not that obtrusive, and it's usually helpful to tell whether or not you're on EDGE or a 3G connection, or if you have neither.
I have set it so show small E or G on top of signal scale. As for wifi, it only shows when i actually connect to the network.
Check out scaps advanced config or kaisertweak, i thought i somethign about showing/not showing those icons. not sure what goes in its place though
kaisertweak doesnt have it...and teva, how did u do that?
neither does scraps advanced config
Below you can see settings for taskbar. You can set a lot of things and even use your own icons. It's a mighty tool for UI customization.
what program is that? wisbar?
err...i hate that program i just messed up my homescreen...had to uninstall...thank you anyway...I need to somehow find i way to either get rid of it..or make it little and ontop of the signal strenght

What program was it? Wisbar?
Thanks
WisBar Advance can hide the phone icon and still display the Network icon. It will also only display the Network icon when it is connected if you should choose.
I use both WiseBar and the other Lakeridge product (WisBar Advance Desktop) that ties into it to customize the desktop and create virtual pages. Began using it since my old iPaq 3800 and still like it the best of all the skin apps.

Signal issues?

I am having some fairly significant signal issues with my Galaxy S. At home on my iPhone I can get almost full bars if placed beside a window. On the Galaxy S I am lucky if I get 1 bar. I have also caught the phone sitting at 3-4 bars but try and make a call and you get no data network.
Any ideas? I have tried 2.1 Vodafone that it came with and a froyo ROM both the same results.

Either you do not have the network connections set up APN etc
Wireless and Network settings .
It may be worth a Factory Restore .
You may have network switched off so double check your networks settings under Access Settings .
Or it wants returning to the vendor broken hardware .

In your first post you say you have 2.1 Vodafone, yet your settings are for Orange.
You need to set up your phone to the same network as your Sim.
If I have misread your post, I'm sorry.

Changing Network Settings

I have been using an app the last few days that has really helped me at work. Where I work, I get very poor LTE signal. It constantly struggles to connect and frequently drops to 3G before reconnecting to LTE. This not only sucks when trying to maintain a consistent data connection, but also drains the battery faster. I’ve been using an app I found on the Play Store called Network Mode and changing the preferred network type to “TD-SCDMA, GSM/WCDMA, CDMA, and EVDO” while at work. By taking LTE out of the equation, I get a consistent 3G data connection and it has also improved my battery life. I change the network type when I get to work, and change it back before I leave. Anyway, just thought I would throw this out there in case there are others who are in the same boat.
Also, if anyone figures out a way to automate that process (with Tasker or something) let me know.

I'm sure you can change from 4G to 3G in settings of phone. That's what I did because I can't get 4G in UK so I changed to 3G settings. Moto Maxx.

That may be true on Moto Maxx. Unfortunately that is not an option on Verizon Droid Turbo.

Force 3G only / 4G only possible?

Hello,
in my office, the network signal isn't the best. I have 1 bar at 4G, 2 bar at 3G and 3 bar at 2G. So the phone choose 2G all the time, but 3G is possible and fast. On my old Huawei, i had the network mode "3G only", but the realme has only "3G/2G auto", so it's still choosing 2G.
Is there any Possibility to force 3G or 4G?
I already read of the Settings Database Editor and installed it, but didn't find a proper settings item.
Also i tried to get in the engineering mode by dialing *#36446337# but it didn't work.
Thank you for your support.
Hello use this code on dialer *#2323#
Sorry, doesn't work. Nothing happens.
on the Chinese version of the phone appears the choice of network type
With the app "Force 4G LTE" i come into the screen "about the phone", where i can change the network type to "LTE/WCDMA only".. but it's full of ads...
i dont see any options to choose from as well (like 3G or 4G connection) default is just showing 4G

Force 3G only/4G only on realme device
I am using realme 5s and I have the same problem but finally I found a solution. You can download an app named "4G LTE SWITCHER(No ads)" from playstore and as the name suggests it has really no ads and it works for me!

It's just showing you that you're connected to a 4G network. No data is being transferred. When that happens, you'll see up and down arrows for data traffic
If the 4G icon bothers you, you can disable it by downloading quickstar from good lock and select which icons your want to hide from status bar.

Indicator showing are network not mobile data. Mobile data indicator is with up& down arrow. Anyway you can use GoodLock to remove these icons. You can use NiceLock if your country doesn't support GoodLock natively.

Sadly. The feature I am looking for is not available in Good Lock. I just want to hide the 4G indicator when I'm not connected using cellular data. It seems that its how supposed to be with SM-G9980. I have SM-G998U before and it wasn't like this. On that US variant the 4G icon is actually LTE. And the 5G icon looks stylish.
Hi, did you find any solution to this ? I have the same issue in my s22 ultra..
