Hi all
Im looking for an app that will complement the calendar by allowing to record voice notes instead of text input when the calendar is open on "day" view.
when you hold down a specific time on the calendar, the voice recorder is activated and the Voice Note automatically gets recorded on the calendar date and time you are holding down, and gets added to your reminders/appointments with default settings and no more questions.
It would be a lot better obviously if it was translated to text first, but not necessary.
I was able to find "voice cal", very old and uninstallable on wm6.1 with .cf.net 3.5
and also "speerio voice organizer"... looks like a memory hog and i read it doesn't work right. Its also crowded with a million different things that are not useful.
I just want a simple interface to be able to use with one or two clicks or buttons in order to set up a calendar event while im driving or on the phone etc....
thanks
bump!.................
Hi Spiro,
any luck on finding that app? Cos i've been looking for the same, tho i would prefer that when u push the "record" button, u get multiple choices regarding where to place the voice note, where "calendar" bein one of the first. Then u just had to place it into the day and time you would like it to be. Haven't found one yet, so i've started to write to different application developers suggesting such an app. I'm surprised that they haven't made one ages ago. In meantime, if you should come across one, pls let me know.
cheers
anyone???
Do I really have to take up programming and write my own app?
I was lookin around and saw this
handheld.softpedia.com/get/Business/Calendar/VoiceCalendars-52540.shtml
I think this is different than VoiceCal
The one I gave the link to, seems lke it could work. Only problem is that it doesnt use WM existing calendar.
I tried speerio voice reminder and it was horrible! I dont know what some people are thinking.
All I need is a simple plugin to show itself on the calendars context menu when I "long press" on dayview to say "new voice note" and when I click on it it should have a HUGE red record button and a stop button. When you hit the stop button the calendar would save that as an event with the default alarms on the date it was created
the only problem I see with that is that the heading of the event would not be very informative unless one typed the info, but im willing to live with that. Or maybe MSvoice command could help there with some text to speech engine!!! (im not holding my breath)
Im using an app called "thumpcal" right now but they dont have a "day view" and I have to set the time after I scedulle an event on a specific date, but its better than the built in calendar BECAUSE ITS SIMPLE!!!!!
I dont understand how am i supposed to use a program like "speerio" while im driving when it has 30 f...n buttons the size of a neutron on the screen in a grey on grey display?????????
Does anyone know what I have to learn in order to put a little program together to do what I want it to do?
PS I also found some other interesting programs like "freenotes" that I thought was a good idea but I would like to be able to initiate that from the "day view" on the calendar (right click on a time on the screen and have the choice of a voice note or a pen note) so that I dont have to key- in the time that I want the event to take place
ummmmmm.....the link that I posted does what you want.
1.Make folders by subject name
2.Click on a folder, it then brings up calendar
3.Click on a day of the month
4.There is a BIG RED RECORD BUTTON at bottom of screen
5.Record your note, it is then stored for that specific day
Is this not what you want? Granted it doesn't use your existing calendar but hey, something is better than nothing, right
VoiceCalendars
Update*
I was just lookin around and found this app. I think it might be right up your alley. Very simple/minimal interface. Allows you to record a voice message up to 2 minutes and then you can set a date and time for it to play aloud automatically.
Voice Reminder: Download Cab
Heres the website I found it at
I hope either of these programs can help. I know how frustrating it is not to be able to find that perfect app!

Hey asofiker
thanks for your reply
I have an HTC Kaiser phone
I tried both programs you suggested and had the same problems with both that other users seem to be experiencing
the "voice calendars" displays a "the control grid .....could not be created" error
and the other program from the XDA member gives me the "An error occoured on sub_app_start.
This device does not support display power on/off Continue?" error.
I appreciate your help and if I find anything that works in the future Ill be sure to post here
Thanks again!
Not exactly what you're looking for but an idea: Agenda Fusion with its Notes Organizer and Data Linking features. Also a good agenda with lots of views. http://www.developerone.com/agendafusion/index.htm
Pocket Informant 8 is the best Calendar and Contacts app available and I always install it to my wm devices. It has voice notes recording functionality and then some. Check it out. I have tried all the others at great expense (some provide trials) and this is by far the best one.
Regards,
MAC
I tried agenda fusion in the past and find that it falls in the same category as most of these organizer programs its simply overkill for a one handed hand held device with a 2 inch screen
Ill give pocket informant a try and post back
Thanks
pocket informant no good for this purpose either!

Which version of PI are you using?
Mine is version 8 and it does exactly as you require! It saves a voice note under Storage Card/Voices when you select Notes View>Menu>Recording

There is nothing "quick" about it, and the whole point of quick contacts is being able to find a few people very quickly.
With SPB Mobile shell, all you have to do is 2 clicks and you're at your contact (one click for quick contacts, and another click to enter your person).
With TF3D, You have to do one click in order to get into quick contacts, and then painstakingly slide your finger on the small slider, until you hopefully reach your desired contact at some point. This is so fricking dumb. It should be the definition of form over function. It's almost unbelievable that HTC used this total disaster to serve as the most recognized picture of the touch diamond (smiling Grace Fuller).
Is there any way to replace this horrendous quick contacts tab with something more efficient (ala SPB MSII) ?
you can also move quickly through your contacts on the right side of that screen, goes pretty fast.
Hi after a sync my quick contacts is missing and i cant put it again? I only can put the new contacts and the old whose missing i cant put it again?
Have any of the tweakers put some thought into expanding the maximum number of quick contacts?

I *was* talking about using the right slider of that screen. The thought of having to look at the faces of my contacts, one at a time, in order to reach the desired one, never even crossed my mind.

If you are willing to sacrifice just *a little bit* more function, you can simply put your contacts at the "Photos and Videos" tab, then you can browse through an unlimited amount of your friends faces.

Sorry, misunderstood you then. Maybe assign one of the softbuttons to 'contacts'? I have PI8 assigned to where "phone" was I believe.
Anyhow, I agree that it's more visual than functional. For calling one of my contacts i still prefer the old way of pressing phone button (hard button) and type first letter of my contact.

I agree too. I think it's just the choice of form over function. I must say that HTC home older versions were better functionally . Just 2 clicks dialing as well. I am also not using them anymore. It's better to use the quickdial feature on the phone instead

Still, if you have a small group of people you are in very frequent touch, it is much easier to have them on speed dial.

You can start a new sms and when typing in the To field the first letters of the contact it shows.
i totally agree.
i would love to have contacts, messages and emails to be shown in an ordered list-style like the recently discovered call history. touchflo3d itself is really nice with this sliding-thing but these three tabs are indeed more visual than functional. hope someday someone will discover how to add third-party plugins...a vga-version of icontact integrated would be awesome.

Well, partly agree with this thread, I agree totally that it isnt the fastest way (for exemple HTC home contacts on my tytn were much quicker)...
But then comes the issue, Is it really QUICK contacts or is it favorite contacts, I have to admit i pretty much like the interface, and navigating on the right side goes quite well...
So no, it isnt the quickest way, but much faster than the standard program, and besides that with a very nice interface..

But it looks darnnn nice, specially if you assign cool avatars to your contacts!
hey if u want to quickly call a contact, why go to touchflo3d at all...the fastest, and i mean really fast...method is to press the call button on the phone, and use the T9 dialer to bring up the contact (provided u know the name of the person ur dialing )
this works pretty fast...coming from an HTC touch (elfin), where the dialer lagged a lot, this one is blazing fast!! try it out
and yeah...that quick contacts thingie is purely for cosmetic purposes...useful only for showing off to your friends!
using the dialpad is the only way to use the 'phone'
The thing I hate about 'quick contacts' is how it displays the full name from my contact, instead of using the 'display as' field to get the name.
Oh well, more disappointment from my most disappointing phone ever.

I've the softbuttons mapped to Contacts (left) and Camera (right), so getting to the contacts list is a single click, and then scroll or press the letter on the right column. I think is quite fast.
Quick Contacts is purely for quick access to your 'favourite' contacts, and it serves that function well for me: it is not laggy and provides a quick means of me contacting my top ten or so contacts with my fat thumb to hand. I see no problem with it. with a tap on the contact you can Email, SMS or call them. It's pretty sweet in my estimates.
As for the Diamond being disappointing = each to their own I suppose, but for me it's the best phone I've ever owned lacking only a decent camera and (less importantly) an expansion slot. It also scuffs too easily, but aside from that it does me proud every day and I love the weather and contacts tabs especially.
And quick contacts are not only for calling, but also for choosing which number to call, to geolocalize them, write mail, etc.
But I agree to the fact that when you scroll on the right, HTC should have skipp the transition between pictures... It's way to slow for quick-supposed contact browsing. I figured a way to make things better, just wait until somebody finds out how to program TF3D tabs-plugins.
I have linked contacts to little squares. When I hit the tab with the person's name on it, it automatically dials the person's number. I far more often use text messaging. Is there an easy way to change what happens when you press the little square?
When you click on Add, find the person in your contacts.
When you select them, it will give you the option to add their numbers.
If you select the one where it says 'txt' after it, the little button with thier name will be mapped to send them a text message, instead of calling them.
Of you can just click on the persons picture and it will open up their contact card.
Doesn't work on stock ATT Rom
When I click on the "+" button, it takes me to my contacts list. When I click on anyone's name, it adds their name to the little square. When I click on the little square, it calls them. I need to set it up so that it gives me the option to send them a text. Maybe my rom is corrupt. I can add pictures, and they show up on the today screen in the little boxes, but when I click on the little pictures, it places a call. I can't or just don't know how, to change the function from "place a call" to "send a text". I called AT&T and have scoured the internet but could not find a solution. I've installed a few programs, which may be causing the conflict, so I guess it's a quirk I'll have to live with.
Finally figured it out
If you tap the little square, it dials their mobile telephone number. If you hold it down with the stylus, it gives you the option to call (home, mobile, work) number or text. I wish when you tapped it, it would text!
Are you using the HTC Home plug? If you use a rom with Manilla when you hit the square it brings up the contact and you have your choice between calling or texting.
I'm using the stock rom minus the bloat
I haven't made any mods other than adding the hidden proxy enable and disable cabs and installing the mp3 ringtone fix. However, I'm about to attempt to remap the PTT button because I hate how you can't mute the phone if you forget to put it on vibrate before a meeting. There is a post that describes how to use the PTT button to toggle among the various volume options.
Step up and flash your tilt...on second maybe thats not a good idea...
have you thought about trying a modded Rom? there is some really great rom out now that will do just what you want plus a whole lot more....
For me, mapping that PTT button was really tough
I went through three different registry editors before I could find the hklm folder. Once I found and deleted that though, it was pretty easy. I am so thankful to horndog1 for the step by step instructions.
Here's a link. I suggest using PC Commander. It was the only one that worked for me. Here's the link to the instructions.
I like this stock rom minus the bloat. So long as it's stable, may stick with it.

i would love this, i hardly ever call people (i only use about 50 minutes per month of voice, but i'm always on aim/texting). If there was someway this could be edited w/ a regedit i'd love it. TF2D is great, but i've have yet to find a ROM that is as stable as any of the simple 6.1 HTC home roms, and the things i use my phone for (lots of note taking, data logging) i can't be doing soft resets to my phone all the time. i did this once and lost a 3 hour session of notes. that WAS...NOT...GOOD. on top of that, it BLOWS not being able to use the TF2D in landscape. i'm really surprised no one has cooked any of the tile icons into any of the manilla roms
I often describe my Fuze as a great PPC but lousy phone. My biggest complaint is the dialer. The biggest issues are the keys being too small and the keys blacking out during a call.
I have installed Nosleep and TouchInCallScreenTweak with mixed results.
I few months back I saw a post on Iconsoft Phone Extension and ignored it as it cost $. I saw a post again on it the other day about the release version and tried it. I may be hooked. It has Dialer, Contacts, Call History, and Favorites tabs and is pretty customizable. The best thing though is the dialer. You can actually dial a # key, credit card number, etc., while in a call. The keys are large enough so I don't mis-dial too.
It is worth the two week free trial. For me, I think I'm going to spend the $25 to keep it.
It's here:

and NO, I don't work for them.
You sure you don't work for em?
Saw the exact same post on the at&t forums site.
Oh, now I see why LOL......I'd do it to, if it would save me 25 bucks

Iconsoft 1.4 is absolutely awesome I'm using it with energy ROM 6.5, because original HTC dialer conflicts with WM 6.5. That's the way, how should look contact's application And 25 usd isn't very expansive
I have to say, when I tried it out, I thought it looked quite nice, although I'm not sure it gave me much more than the standard dialer for my use. However, although I didn't seem to be able to uninstall it (so be careful of that, if you are just trying it out), it did work with my Touch Incall Screen Tweak as long as you got it to switch the screen off during a call in the first place. If you don't do that, it seemed to prevent the screen being switched off completely, and just allowed it to be dimmed.
Cheers,
Steve.
With version 1.4 and some alternative skins available, I am now very satisfied with its function. I especially like the the fact a Speakerphone button is available and you can get the Keyboard back in view easily if you have to enter a digit to do something.
It is a shame people get flamed for talking about it. Iconsoft's marketing ploy was a dumb move but the product is has made my Fuze finally usable as a phone.
For those that want to try it, search for it. I'd post the link but then I'll get flamed again. I've attached a screen capture of the Dialer. The new skins come in Red and Green too.
does iconsoft phonex 1.4 allow th call recording feature? (ICR) thx.
There is another alternative which in my view is better. I have tried both extensively.
Take a look here: www.inesoft.com and look at Phone 4.
I have been using Inesoft Phone 4 for quite some time. It works great with 6.0, 6.1 and 6.5. I would not run any phone without it. In fact, I bought 2 licenses for the same phone, but that is a different story.
Be advised however, that the great big buttons you see for dialing are only available when you start the call. Once the call is connected, the normal system dialer is what is available. So if you have to check your office voicemail for instance, you can start the call with the big buttons, but once connected, you will be back to the small standard system dialer buttons. Not a problem for me as almost everything is on speed dial.
Even with that flaw, this is a great app. I can honestly say that I think it is the most well though out application from a users perspective that I have ever seen on the WM platform. They have a generous trial. Give it a try and you will see what I mean. Be sure to fill the first page of Favorites and you will notice that it automatically creates another one. Also, look how easy they made it to rename your favorite buttons. Lots of little things that show how much attention they pay to details.
Oh, one other thing, it has never crashed or caused any problems on my phone in about 9-12 months of use. Now that I think about it, it is kind of embarrassing, but in this time period, I have used 3 different phones (eTen G500+, x500 & Fuze) all with the same great results from this app.
Happy trials.
Doug M.
Have you tried inesoft to compare the phone 4? I hear that's good as well. I can't seem to figure out how to add favorites. Does yours work in WM 6.5?
One question for the inesoft Phone 4.
Does it have a slider for answering calls or only press buttons?

I figured this out. When I went into contacts, I would press the favorite button. This just brought me back to the favorite menu. In the contacts, you have to select the contact, then press "edit", then add favorite.
Contacts Changer
I've had this program for a while. When you add contacts to WM there backwards unless you put them the other way. This app will swap them back.
Each time you add a new contact run contact changer and swaps them. Used it on my 8525 and now my fuze. I'm not for sure where i got it but theres a website at the bottom of the app of who ever made it to give credit.
Thought some body else might want it. Didn't want to start a new thread
An unstated feature of 1.4 is that it adds back the BT status icon to the Taskbar. The BT status indicators are called by the HTC Dialer. Took me along time to finally figure that out. Using the WM6 or other alternative dialers nukes them. PhonEx adds them back though BT Discoverable does not have a separate icon. I think the status icon is a must as my Fuze provides no other clues that BT is On. I don't want BT left On when on Battery.
PhonEx also plays nice with PocketShield although you must tweak their redundant features. PocketShield is a great app that disables unintended button presses while fumbling with your phone as it comes out of your pocket, case, purse, or wherever you carry it.
Adding NoSleepRaphael and TouchInCallScreenTweak has finally tamed my unruly Fuze.
My great PPC but lousy phone is now much better. Downside is having to pay bucks to get a workable phone that wasn't cheap in the first place.
I have been using iconsoft PhoneEx for a while and think it is handdown the best dialer I have ever seen.. The search function for contacts (I have 100's) work smooth and easy, the full screen cid and slide up to answer are all great.. The only 2 complaints I have are you can not reject a call with a text message, and i am seeing some conflicts with the standard MS dialer using NRG's ROM but all in all it makes using the phone much easier to use..
Has anyone else seen the conflicts with MS dialer (usually upon hanging up a call) or missing a call...
I'm using the stock AT&T Fuze ROM. PocketShield shows the MS Dialer enabled by PhonEx. I am not seeing conflicts but then the Fuze always seems finicky. I have learned to live, maybe tolerate is a better word, with it.
Phonex is very solid right now making me scared of a new version.
only press buttons. i have used both quite a bit and must say phonex is much better imo. i find inesoft to be visually ugly and not very responsive. scrolling is not nearly as smooth as phonex.
just my .02
I love my Kaiser, I will not trade it in for a Fuze. I am however set back with questions unanswered. I'll enlighten you.....
1) I have been using an app called "Where is My Phone". I love this app. There is a certain feature I am quite curious about that acts as a macro. When you SMS the phone with a certain command as the text, it triggers a macro to work. This is very interesting to me. I am aware that there is a program running in the background to check for such a text request, but my question is, are there other programs out there that will let you run your own macros on such a text requests???
2) I am also running the Inesoft program on my phone. I absolutely love the dialer, however, once the dialer has been used and a call is placed, the default dialer pops up... very sad since I havn't been able to find a dialer skin that I like. (yes, I have searched everywhere and found them all) Is there a way to set the inesoft dialer as the default dialer on my Kaiser? This would be very useful, because I cant just tap and hold the "1" button on my inesoft dialer to activate retrieving my phones voicemail messages.
This forum is my lifeline to the outside world when it comes to my Phone and i thank you all in advance.
uhm as for your first question, I'm not too sure if I can answer it. I do use an app called mobliza that runs in the background. it's basically like an away message program for SMS. it also has a feature that allows it to carry on a conversation with people who text you. go to tiltmobility.com to find the download.
as for your second question, I don't think there is any way to make it your default dialer unless it's cooked into a ROM.
actually, my first question looks confusing... what i want to do is get my phone to perform actions when i sms it. if you look at "where is my phone", its an app that sends you the gps coords, with a google maps hyperlink of your cell phones location when you send it a certain text.
As for part 2, I guess Ill just cross my fingers and hope someone cooks up a rom. thats the best dialer skin ive seen. finger friendly, big, plain, simple.....

I do not think xda allows roms with commercial software in the forums, as this would be considered warez, unless they just include the shareware version, which would be useless as it requires you to purchase after trial period. Maybe you can download a kitchen and integrate the software into your rom, shouldn't be that difficult.
You could provide the software to the chef of your favorite rom and ask him kindly to brew it in for you. As long as the software are fully available for download its no problem adding it to any rom. Reason why its not done are that people have to buy to fully take advantage of the software and no chef is going to force something like that on you. There has been payware on certain rom from some of the most known chef`s in here, but its very rare and if so its because the software been brand new or killing good.
The thought of brew this in case the device is stolen by someone are good. Cause if the thief are not an advance user chance of getting it back are good even after a hard reset
I used to use inesoft address book and if I can remember correctly, there is a setting where you can make the dialer and history the default.

yup, i think i came across that program, where you text your mobile with predefined commands and when your cell picks it up it runs the application or script. One thing i forgot the name, but i think its freeware, if my poor memory serves me right. Damn, anyway it stays on your homescreen, just a small icon on the lower part.
The developers also programmed the location based application launcher based on what cell radio tower you are on.
