Hi,
In htcmania ( http://www.htcmania.com/showthread.php?t=8843 ) claim that if you block the output grid of the speaker you get more volume and better quality (less metalic) sound.
I've tried myself and the sound is... different. Anyone else wants to try?

"Different".. Please elaborate. Was it worth it?

Come on, you just have to open the lid and put the finger on the speaker to try it...
My feeling is a little bit more of volume and more "complete" sound, without those nasty high frequencies that give it the classical metallic sound.
It's just a piece of tape, don't expect 6 dB boost
The Diamond has one Speaker that is used for both calls and other loud tones. During Calls the volume is obviously lower. However the speaker is placed inside the casing, the sound outputs are both on top and through the front hole. Closing the top hole from inside will obviously direct the sound waves to come from the front and so it may definitely sound a little louder.
Regards,
Carty..
wow, imho much better sound! You can test it with the "finger trick" mentioned above.
Yes! I put my finger on the speak lid and the sound became much louder!
Yep definately an improved sound. Put my tape on the inside back cover at the top as it sticks easier.
Thanks for the tip
In fact it is not louder By default the sound is directed from you through the back grid. If you close it, all the sound goes to the front grid. Strange design by HTC engineers :/

i've just tested this and you're right
without the back cover off, the tape will make it louder.
But after you put the back over on and close the phone, the sound will be much lower, maybe equal to normal level.
I've just removed the tape because i can't even hear my phone when it is in my pocket.
it's really work !!!
great tips, thanks
Tried it... Voila.. Good amount of difference.. Should be added as "HARDWARE TWEAK"!!!
Downside, missing some (very) high freqency notes...

Maybe the upper out is there because of that... in case you block the frontal one, at least you can hear something.
I don't know, but it was worth trying, wasn't it?
Works very nice!!
I was trying the same thing on my Touch Pro but the sound gets worser, because it already has some kind of filter plate on the speaker. But with the tape it increased the volume a bit (virtually).
Thank you, i try it.
wow, it is areally good idea.
Please more tricks like that!
I did it when I first had my phone, did it with the cover on though, just put your hand at back but don't cover the speaker, so that the sound is directed to you and not all over the place and it sounds much better, not as tinny and makes the sound a lot clearer .
Just wish HTC would stop putting the speaker on the back and top of phones . When HTC released the SPV C500 way back in 2004, they put the main speaker on the right side of the phone, never had a phone with a better speaker since
seems to work really!
sounds much more clear at higher volumes
thanks!
Hi, i have a lot of problems with the low volume of my htc legend becouse i don't often hear the ring and so i lost calls. there is a fix for increase the ringer volume of incoming calls? thank you
the legend is actually very loud but the speaker section sits flat against the surfaces you put it on causing it to muffle the sound.
the obvious answer is when you put the phone down place it so it does not sit flat. however the other option is to boost the audio track volume on the mp3 that you set as a ringtone
this is an unfortunate oversight of the legend design i got around it by getting a clear plastic foot thingy whith an adhesive backing from my fathers work which i stuck on the back of it which holds it above the surface you might be able to find some small rubber feet on ebay
EDIT: found this these are similar only the ones that im using are about half the size http://www.etsy.com/listing/37328205/60-clear-rubber-feet-adhesive-backed
I usually put the phone with display face the table top, so the speaker is face upward.
Anyway checks the level of your ringtone. I also find Legend has quite loud speakers.

Here's my first try in a quest to make the Diamond into an usable audio device. This will focus mainly on earphones, but if i get annoyed enough by it, there may be some hardware mods to the internal speaker (that is, if i actually decide to keep the phone).
I think we can all agree that the Diamond sounds like garbage. It's stupid loud but stupid thin. It's like listening to piezo tweeters. So, is it possible to change it? Well, there is hope. I want to share my results so far. This is for the supplied earphones but as soon as i have time i'm gonna hack a 3.5mm jack on the handsfree and test various other 'phones.
I threw the earphones on TrueRTA and was horrified of what i saw. But with some serious tweaking of the EQ, the graph started to look better. Anyway, jump right in and set your Audio Booster like this:
+6 +6 +2 0 +1 +2 -6 -6 -6 +3
This will take a fair chunk of loudness away, however i still find it plenty loud (and i like to listen loud, believe me). The distortion limit is 50-70% in Windows Media Player (depending on song) with the system volume at the middle bar. Now you can actually hear bass! Incredible. The next best thing you can do is get a pair of those foam buds that go over your earphones. This will make them couple tighter to your ears (basically that's why in-ear phones always have more bass, you can have the same effect with just those foam buds). Try it and you won't be disappointed.
Whoever has tried this, let me know if you like it. If you do, i'll post some before/after graphs too, so you can also see what you hear. Edit: I just noticed that the ROM i was using was volume modded. On stock settings distortion sets in at 70% media player volume with full system volume.
You can get 3.5mm adaptors on ebay for not much. I got one recently one with a microphone for about £3 I think. Then you don't need to modify you headset
I can't ebay since i don't have a card to put money on my paypal, besides, shipping costs to RO are quite expensive too. I found such an adapter locally, but for $15... i'd rather slice the headset thank you.
Heads up, good stuff coming.
I replaced the battery in my wife's phone and immediately afterwards I hear no audio from the earpiece. When I plugin headphones I can hear audio fine from the headphones, youtube pauses when I remove the headphones which indicates it does know that the headphones aren't plugged in and should be sending audio to the earpiece. Does anybody have any idea what connections might be the issue? I have taken the thing apart 4 times trying to find what connector might be misaligned with no luck thus far and really don't want to have to get another phone.
Same exact problem here...
Hi there archangelus2,
Have you ever found a fix to the problem? I also noticed that my loud speaker is now not as loud as it used to be... and by trial and error, I found out that squeezing the top right corner (looking at the screen) it gets a bit louder so I guess that some of the contacts aren't touching well or some other odd crap is going on. The phone is easy enough to open and take apart (if you know what you're doing and are very careful and gentle), but I did notice that given the complains that have been posted post-repair, it does not seem to be too reliable when putting it all back together. The earpiece going completely mute is complete nonsense for instance as there isn't all that much that could go "wrong" in those contacts and I wonder if something gets messed up at the software level after a replacement of hardware like the battery, is performed.
Any help and info will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers! and stay

Is there anyway that you accidentally messed with the earpiece? There is a small rubber protector inside the phone on top of the earpiece, I suggest you check to make sure this is positioned properly on the speaker.
Best of luck,
Matt
Yes, I just got my earpiece fixed. I had a 16 GB AT&T model who's sound was terrific. Then i got greedy and went for a 32 GB latin american model (some telecom I forgot the name of) its earpiece sound was extremely low. I ordered 2 earpieces from ali express just in case they were to be changed. Yesterday I took it to a shop and the guy fixed the original earpiece by applying some tape around the earpiece to focus the sound out of one way and now its as good as new. $10 and am happy.
So yeah probably in your case I'd say he kinda misplaced the earpiece. You may get it checked.
Does the V40 have stereo speakers?
I've seen some reviews that say both yes and no. LG's website shows a sound wave graphic coming out of both the top speaker and the bottom. The leaks prior to it's release said that it does. So I'm very confused as to whether or not it has stereo speakers.
Only one speaker!
https://youtu.be/CNZbqOTaTV8
Just one speaker ... but damn is it a powerhouse!
In the graphic you speak of, I see where they can 'cheat' the idea that the sound is coming from all over - but only after having the phone, turning up the volume while holding it as the whole phone vibrates with sound. Put it on a hard surface and the sound is amplified even more. Put the speaker side up to the back of a countertop and the sound is not only loud, it comes at you from all angles.
I get needing stereo if you hold the phone up close ... but with this phone, anything further away than 3 to 4 feet and only the finest of audiophiles will be able to tell the difference from the V40 to any other phone with stereo ... after 6 feet no one will know stereo from the V40 but everyone will appreciate the volume it can pump out.
Nope but it does sound like a little sound comes through the boom box is so loud but I say no!
Both speakers work
I've tried to very carefull listen
Fill buttom firing speaker & give it to full sound then u can realized
Ok now I give u an example
Accidentally my phone dropped & met an accident
So back panel damaged
When trying to play songs I've noticed that front speaker working not button. When visit to service Center tha guy found that button speaker connection broken then install a new speaker..
That's why I know both speakers are working.
