Help! Diamond Broken? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Look at this photo of my diamond...
Do you think it's broken, or it's simply the protective film that is detaching?
I'm relly upset, because I bought it just 2 months ago. What can I do?
Thank you in advance.
Lem

looks like the film. Send it back to htc

whoa...i've got the same problem but less severe. Found out about 3 weeks ago.

Interesting you brought this up. I just got mine last night and I can see that the upper corner of this is protruding higher than the rest of the piece. No wonder this happens.

i also have the same problem

Hmmm..interesting !
Jeeze you guys
Don't you recognise an immediate warranty return for pretty obvious fault !!!
LOL...do you think there is something wrong with this iPhone.....

My home button isn't alignet correctly with the rest of the phone either. As it haven't been a problem i haven't cared, but seeing these pictures, i see the risk of this problem getting worse after some time. I will contact the webshop i bought it from and see if I can get it replaced. (and referring to this thread).

I had the same problem with the top layer coming off at the corner. I rang
htc support last week and they gave me a address to send it to,
to get it repaired.
The problem is well known at htc.
I rang the shop before sending it to them and they told me it would
take about a week to get it back. I am from Austria btw.
Cheers

listen to me
hi to everyone
i got the same problem 4 weeks ago
fixed now
is sticker protection for screen and keypad
go to www.cnn.cn and buy 1 of the two option (clear $1.99 or mirror effect $2.99)
my is back to perfect again
hi oop this can help
ciao

mmm I think it's not the sticker protection, because stiker protection is really thinner and I took it off when I bought the diamond, leaving it only on the screen... This layer is thicker and is very well sticked to the underlying button...
Are you sure that this is the same thing happened to your diamond, gerardo66?
Thak you.
PS: sei italiano?

Just to let you know - I have sent the phone to the htc-serviceshop on
monday and received it repaired and in perfect condition on friday - 5 days is
pretty good I think. They changed the lower part of the touchpanel.
Cheers
Kramer

same problem here, its because the keypad is sitting higher then the rest.
Only on the left side ..

I have the exact same problem in mine, used a small nail file to file it a tiny bit so that the corner doesnt catch on anything

mine is also starting to happen, but i cant send it in as it is my only phone and im from the US (it will take forever to get back)...Has anyone actually peeled it all off to see what it looks like? is it stickey? is it still mirrored? are the icons on the buttons still intact?

Also, If i do end up sending it in, how long would it take if sending it from California?

the same thing happened with me. it annoyed me so i slowly peeled it off and it seemed to be a thick protective film. i took it all off and everything is fine. I ordered a set of protective films from ebay 1 for the screen and another for this keypad. so dont worry its just a protective film.

Well that is good to hear. I called HTC and they said they were going to charge me $128 bucks and it is considered physical damage.
When you peeled it off, Did the screen feel higher than the buttons, or was it all leveled nicely. Reason i am asking this is because you mentioned it was a thick film. Also, do the icons get removed a well?

lol yeah I was afraid the level of the screen would be higher but no it stays the same you can barely notice a difference. The icons stay on as well. Its exactly like peeling off a screen protector, maybe a little tougher.. but you get the idea.

ahh dude thanks so much for replying, i am so much at ease now...Do you remember which seller you got the sticker from on eBay? Someone posted a website on this thread, however i dont know if i can trust the site. I looked at his posts around the forums, and it seems like he plugs the site in when ever he gets a chance, so i dont want to get scammed =/

X1 BAD Qualiy Contorl ~ Coating peel off ~

Please take a look in the attachment ~
The coating around the direction pad was completely peel off. I am very sad since my X1 just used around 2 week.
I will send an email to SE to complain their bad QC and material.
What the hell.. this is ridiculous.
Even cheap dumb phones dont have issues like that.
Wow that really sucks.. i wonder if anyone else has this problem?
**Knock on wood**...didn't happen to mine yet
ooo that's bad...
Isn't that maybe a kind of protective thing that you should peel off or clean?
mine doesnt have that and the material doesnt look like it can peel off

I haven't clean my phone when i bought it and i always put it in the small bag to protect it.
On beside, i always use the optial mouse for checking email.
I think this cosmetic issue is caused by the bad material on the key pad and coating
faint...
i just scared that the black paint would peel off so i specially choose the silver version.
no is the button area.. OMG... SIVLER'S button also black color....
if the user has a tendency to apply lots of pressure then is it an issue with SE quality?
That amount of peeling is wear, caused by the friction/ force of a application of the thumb or finger.
It would take me years to cause that amount of peel despite my enormous hands
My 'SonyEricsson' logo at the top is starting too peel off
yes, the black painting is peel off from the battery cover, where can I order another one? or re-paint it out of the market?
Suspicion
This is all a bit suspicious!
You say you have had this phone for 2 weeks?? Was this some sort of pre-production model? Was it bought in the EU/UK or in Asia?
It seems odd that this hasn't been reported before by hundreds of people who have had the phone longer. I bought mine from a retail store in the UK.
I use mine all day long and can state clearly that no paint, logo or finish is wearing off. I don't even believe there is any kind of lacquer on any part of the button panel. Looks like regular glossy plastic.
Furthermore I think the build quality is excellent.

MY phone is retail mode bought in Hong Kong, I am suspicious on this issue also.
This cosmetic issue is totally unacceptable, i can't believe the coating was peel off around 10days. What the HELL in SE QA & QC.
I bought the X1 when it launch in HK in first day. I hope your phone is another batch without this issue. BTW, this issue was occur after 9days. I hope you got a good batch of X1.
well I will blame the user for that kind of scratch, only you can know honestly how did u care for your phone.

It is not scratch, the coating is peel off in a pieces, furthermore my X1 is always put into a small bag to protect, therefore i don't think it is careless to cause this issue.
On beside, I always use the finger to scroll optical joystick for browsing email. I think this cosmetic issue is due to the bad material , design and coating on the key pad. Why don't HTC use the same material as PSP shell, it should print the black color inside the transparent plastic rather than make a coating on a CHEAP black plastic.
The coating is stop peel off unit ............ please take a look on the latest status on the keypad.
BTW, I just send an email to following address to make a complain on this SUCK cosmetic issue.

I also surprised when the coating is starting peel off ~ I hope this issue occur in little amount of batch only ~ I will send back my X1 to request a replacement later, i hope this issue will not happened again.
After a month, the paint on my "down arrow" directional button is also peeling off. The phone has been kept in a nice thick pouch since day 1. I have owned my previous phone 1 year with no scratch so the scratch is definitely not due to the way I treat it.
same here, my unit peel off too at the same area

Are dust under your screen?

Just to know if this issue is common over the TD2 comunity!!!
I voted and I do. It is not just by the volume bar but all over the screen. It moves to different places during the day. Indoors and at night it is not noticable when the screen is on but during the day and when the screen is off I can see it. Hopefully it is an issue that is fixed and HTC will replace our units mebe.
I had a TD2 for about 2 weeks when I noticed dust entering beneath the screen near the volume keys. I returned it for an exchange and have had a second TD2 for a week and this one is doing exactly the same....seems to much of a coincidence to be an isolated case....I suspect there is a design flaw.
Im now arranging to return this device, going to choose something different....shame though cos I thought the TD2 was such an improvement over the original TD!
Looks like is better to wait for TP2, ha?
What about blowing off the dust with compressed air can? Did anybody try it?
later
To blow it off you have to dismantle your TD2 from backside. There is no service manual (dismantling guide) yet. I sent my TD2 to the service, they blowed the dust off, but the dust is coming in again. I think there is a sealing problem...
So, lets get antistatic gloves, screw driver, plastic crowbar and...
It may be interesting to see if there's a correlation with where the device is constructed. Mine is made in taiwan and has no dust.

Mine is also taiwan. But WITH dust..
I also encountered this problem.. i just got this phone 2 days ago.. Though not really a lot of dust.. but it is still visible beneath the screen, near volume keys.. ARGH!! Mine is also from taiwan..
ME TOO
I have my second unit now and both has the dust problem!
this is sooo sad,
I already called htc support center and I am waiting on an answer.
No dust here.
no dust after month!
no dust here either. Any idea from which side it should get under ur screen? and might It have anything to do with the way ur handling ur phones? (not pointing fingers here, just curious)
Dust here after four weeks.
It wont let me vote for some reason either in the poll. Mine is not in a dusty environment and lives in a canvas cover so no idea how its got in!
Yes Dust after one week of use...
R.
Also dust after 1 week already, have it now almost a month.
No dust anywhere maybe, because I'm using a pouch bag
dust free after 1 week. i always put in my leather case.

dropped my n1... screen cracked

can it be fixed? whats it good for now? any value to anyone?

Seems that I have some options now... Found a nexus amoled on ebay for 85... Takes 10 minutes to replace. The insurance takes ~30 days to process and I can't wait that long. So I bought a new nexus and the amoled. If insurance approves the claim, then ill sell the amoled and give them the phone. If they deny, ill replace broken amoled and sell nexus locally to a buddy (I can get more for it in working shape than with cracked screen).
Luckily, there was no damage beyond screen (digitizer and case are perfect still). So looks like ill get some good $ for it when repaired.
But now I'm back in the holding pattern for a new nexus to show up... Argh! (And I'm back on what seems like an ancient smartphone for a while -- bb 8900. Though it still responds to touch perfectly, the nexus' broken screen became flooded with purples and its not legible anymore. D'oh!)
I assume OP will be investing in a screen protector this time around

OP had phone in Zagg invisible shield, silicone gel skin, and horizontal cellet belt case at time of fall. I was getting out of the car and the seat belt caught the phone holster, sorta tearing it off of me, and it went from SUV height (5ish feet) to the concrete pavement below me. I even heard the crack of the screen (was a very painful sound to experience).
A sad day indeed.

well if this helps, she got her nexus back in less than a week. she is in new jersey, USA. i called HTC, the next morning she received shipping. she got her nexus back 2 days later all fixed up. less than a week. i guess it would depend where in the world you are located though. i think HTC has repair facilities on the east coast, near baltimore.
You had better luck than I did. I sent my phone out 13 days ago to HTC to repair a cracked screen. I paid $115 for the screen replacement on day 2, but STILL have not gotten my phone back. I am very disappointed in the Cust Care at HTC.
I just wanna say that OP has a cool screenname hehe.
And sorry about your screen. My advice - definitelly go with HTC. They know how to take these phones apart properly and they won't cut corners on that. You'll get a proper new native N1 screen.

Tough Case next time then
Thats unfortunate, OP.
My cheap gel case saved my precious from a bad drop to the asphalt. Not a scratch.
id really like an otterbox solution... but i rely on the dock for most of the day and night... and i am a battery swapper too. hmph...
this is not the first time ive had this happen... with the seatbelt taking my phone for a ride without me approving. some years ago, this happened with a BB 8700. but, i didnt know i didnt have the phone on my person until i back out the car and saw something on the ground in front of me. and then i realized that i drove over my @$#%&[email protected]# blackberry. i need a usb dongle coming out of my arm pit, and then id just have the n1 sewn into my forearm.
Anyone have experience in UK with HTC? what's the cost and time? Damn dropped it last night and the screen was with some scrambled colours. This morning had a proper look on screen and I can see cracked lines running all over. I think it's the inner screen that's broken.

Well... Sounds like you learned a valuable lesson on how to protect your new Nexus! Sell your SUV, get a sub-compact, and stop using seat belts!

How durable is our HD2?

Hi,
Got my HD2 couple months back and using it with silicon cover since beginning but now I want to take the cover off and show the real beauty of the phone to everyone but I am too scared to take the silicon cover off because I am clumsy and I drop my phone way too frequently.
I know the phone looks very durable but exactly how durable is it??? can people share some experiences like oh I dropped it from 5ft and it was intact or oh I dropped it from 2ft and the screen broke etc etc.
I used to have HTC Kaiser/tilt and I dropped it way too my times without any covers but it never gave up on me.
PS: I know there is no real way to define durability of a cellphone but u know there are some cellphones which are really delicate and u have to handle them with extra extra care. While there are some like the kaiser who are made for rough use. Just want to know which category our HD2 belongs to?
not very. i've cracked my screen twice.

oops!!! sorry about that!!!
did you drop it screen facing down? or on some corner of the phone?
I've used mine without any sort of protection since the day it was released in US (end of March). It does not have a single scuff, mark, or scratch anywhere. I just dropped it for the first time a week ago from a counter roughly 2.5 feet onto a hard tile floor and still no scuff, mark, or scratch (I don't know how it fell as it was dark when it happened and I was looking in a different direction; turned my head while headphones were plugged in so it pulled it off the counter).
I'm extremely happy with the durability of the HD2.
Since Nov
Ive had my HD2 since Nov last year...
No cover no protection.. and it looks like new.. I dont know how you managed to break the screen twice.. you probably throw that phone in some weird angles.. but really does last well!
dropped mine from my lap getting out of my low car onto the bitumen and fell back down perfectly flat. absolutely smashed the screen but 2 months later its still working fine and waiting for it to die before replacing the screen. i work installing solar panels (PV) on roofs, crawling though ceilings, etc. sees alot of abuse so while the screen smashed the components inside are well placed. had it before america could get it (in australia)
i got it since 10 months now, without any cover. screen is absolutely clean, but the rest looks a bit used, but not that bad
a friend is using it without respect. throwing it over the table and such things, he never broked something on the phone.. the screen stopped working one time and he needed it to replace cause that, but it didnt break xD
another friend broke his screen when his hd2 fellt on a freakin spoon on the floor (WTF did that spoon on the floor?)
Had it 2 1/2 weeks, no scratches, no scuffs. Just annoying dust under the screen
I have mine almost a year now.
A few weeks ago he started acting weird. Screen flipped sideways and putted speaker on.
I've send it to repair and they replaced the motherboard. Everything is ok now again.
No scratches after such a long time with no screen protector.
ive dropped mine once from about 3 fet and it only made a slight scuff on the corner
ive always had a screen protector but never any other protection and it looks great for the past 4 months
very happy with it

If you get dust under the screen, then it is a factory defect. Since the screen is glued to the LCD, somewhere around the edge it's not completely sealed. I have had mine for 7 months now and I do not have even ONE spec of dust under the screen, and I carry it in my pocket without any protection at all, all the time.

When I say dust, I mean there were a couple of hairs in the screen when I got it. They don't affect any viewing pleasure so I didn't return it

I dropped my M20P..and guess what happened

No screen protector, only Huawei silicone case.
I had wire connected phone to laptop, heard doorbell, grabbed the fone and jumped off the bed, cable snapped out, phone slipped off my hand, flew two feet away from the bed and at a hight of around 2-3 feet, and fell flat on ceramic tile floor.
Thud! It sounded plastic-like, screen was facing upwards. I thought at least a shatter, picked it up and guess what.... nothing happened, screen is absolutely fine, not even a single scratch (also given that I have keys and phone in the same pocket most of the time).
Strike one
Wtf?
Strike one because your phone didn't break?
I get it, it's concerning/annoying to get such unexpected results when something like this happens. But don't worry, maybe "better luck" next time!
Btw, I wonder how much it would cost to replace the display as I assume it's not covered by the warranty?

I just ordered this case (mentioned in the cases thread)
https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Hybrid-Designed-Huawei-Mate/dp/B07K2H1CN8
We carpeted most of our rooms with a thick soft carpeting. Saved a lot phones, tablets and other objects since.

If you are seriously concerned about damaging your M20Pro in a fall/drop the 2 available UAG cases might be worth considering. I bought one but to me it was too bulky and made the phone uncomfortable to hold. Some people seem to love those cases.
