Hi there,
there is a pretty cool site that is a free and very comprehensive German-English dictionary. It also offers you a possibility to download it's database which is under 5 MB. Now there are several programmes (some GPL) that run on a PC and use this database and one even is Java based but it does not run using the midlet manager.
I think it would be so great if I could get this run on my WM5. The owner of the site could post it two so that everybody can have a great free dictionary.
the site is called dict.cc (http://www.dict.cc/?l=e)
here are the links to the programme pages that use the database:
http://www.elcombri.de/html/pages/en_translator_download.htm
this one got a .jar version of the programme which does not run on WM5
http://www.tsdh.de/cgi-bin/wiki.pl/RDictCc
Could somebody please have a look into this? Maybe it's just small coding that needs to be done.
Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it.
Alex
Does anyone know how to add the ability to read chinese on the Tilt/ Tytn II/ Kaiser? I don't need the ability to input chinese, only to read.
Thanks.
Hi canosatien
Try CE-STar. You can input until the demo runs out then, apparentl, you can use it just to view.
Ofiaich
Thanks for the reply. Sorry, forgot to say, yes, I do know about CE Star but its a commercial program. Is there any plugin to the OS itself?
although ce-star is a commercial program, it runs like a plugin, you can turn it off, but it will still run in the background, there is a time limt for writing of 50 times, the best part is there is no limit for reading and displaying chinese and japanese through the os, documents and the web.

I just wanted to compile a list of application you guys must have on your PDA?
I've done tweeking my rom and now looking for some solid applications to add to the phone..
List all applications you install once after a hard reset!
-Tomtom Navigator
Heh, just downloaded Dutty's Hybrid ROM with the full intention of flashing it (as I'm still using Schaps' 4.31). Then sat down and listed all the soft I have installed... and cried bloody tears.
So much stuff to reinstall, re-register, restore saves/bookmarks to! Yes, I know of UC, Sashimi, and stuff, but still... that's an awful lot.
K, here goes for anyone interested (in order of original installation/upgrade):
SKKV SK Tools
Mortscript
Weather Panel (+ Hourly Fix)
TaskManager ITA Big Buttons
S2U2
Finger-Friendly Friends
Ultimate Launch
HTC Home Customizer
RC Mod
Pocket Informant 8
Cyberon Voice Dialer
Batti
Mobipocket Reader
SPB Diary, Traveler, Finance, Wallet, Time
Resco Explorer, Audio Recorder, Photo Viewer, Radio
FDC Softkey Applet
VGAKEY keyboard
SRS_WOW_HD
Green Skin for Audio Manager
and about 20 games, mostly puzzle and RPG.
And, of course, iGo My Way 2006 Plus and AutoMapa, both navigation software.
To answer your original question: most of these are a must for me. Sorry, cannot be more specific.

That'd be very kind of you, thanks
Indeed the software-Wiki could use some updating, as, for example, it lists only a few of Resco and SPB progs, and relatively old ones at that.
SPB Traveler, for instance, (mostly) duplicates the functionalities of SPB Weather and Time while adding quite a few of its own.
SPB Wallet (and its many brothers, like eWallet, SplashID, or CodeWallet) is another killer app, as it saves the hassle of remembering oodles of passwords, codes, keys, combinations, sizes, URLs, account numbers... you name it.

It's a wiki so you can add things yourself. I just created it about 1-2 weeks ago so it hasn't been around that long. Hell, I wish the damn thing would get stickied but it doesn't look like it is.

Hi,
I've been looking how to add phone and improve graphics but it seems to need some intense DLL hacking for now. So I would like to release a more personalised rom.
I propose the following:
Remove media player+ microsoft live
Add opera 9.5+htc X-button +gpstools+taskmanager
If you like this setup, it leaves 28 Mb free on storage. Please comment on this, and what you would remove add.
I have a french localised rom using this setup if someone want's it.
sounds good for me , I would like the french rom if it's possible!!!
I just wait for more answer, and I should post it tommorow.
sounds good to me too - but in english
thanks
matthew
looks good
Great, but give me something for the spanish people.
If you put opera remove explorer? and what about to execute cab files.
My Wishlist
Windows Media Player - removed - OK
Windows Live - removed - OK
Office - removed - OK
-------------------------------------
I like old version of Pocket Informant (that consumed tiny memory, not the touch version)
I like old version of Opera (again, smaller memory)
Please add SoftKeyApplet too ;-) And Polish language!
I cannot publish any language without this language rom dump.
as for softkey, it's more or less a one time app, not very worthy of precious storage space...
in french it would be great
for your proposal, dont know if its a good idea to add opera ??
Because some prefers opera mini (lighter), perhaps everyone can choose and install with cab ?
Great! If a Traditional Chinese version can be grant is much Fantastic!
That would be great! The question is what version of opera are you going to put because the beta one is a bit buggy.
Sounds great thanks
If you leave opera out, gets more space
the rest sounds ok for me
prefer english
what about 1 sos sms button include coordinates or does somebody knows a separate program for it
good luck

How's abouts the Firefox for windows mobile?
I know that the development was stopped, but how was the beta???
...or the mini browser from microsoft labs (Deepfish)?
More space, more space in this rom because I would like to use HTC Shift with TT7 or Garmin Mobile XT on WM site...
Hi,
File Explorer REALLY needs more functionality.
How about File Explorer Extention?
I found it HERE on xda-developers.
It is small and really makes File Explorer usable.
furthermore: The smaller, The better.
Thaihugo did a nice rom what I liked there was:
* GPS in snapvue side
* HTC X-button 1.5
* HTCGPStool
* DotFred's TaskManager
* USBtools for connecting to vista
I would like a SMALL app that would make it possible to place shorcuts (icons) on the todayscreen. We have such a HUGE todayscreen. It is a pitty not to use it. Snapvue itself should be kicked offcourse! I is rather useless with realvga.
I do not like opera as a webbrowser, but if it is smaller I will be happy with that. (I also don't really like PocketExplorer... so....)
