Howdy,
In about a week (assuming that G.W.B. can resist starting WWIII for that long), I'm going to build another ROM. This time I'd like to get some input on what to include.
A few things to keep in mind:
1) The goal is to include apps and hacks that appeal to the widest audience and are useful. If it's something that's not useful to a lot of people, then there's no reason to put it into a ROM. I can add more themes and ringers as well, but they should appeal to as broad a group as possible.
2) I won't include any commercial apps. Not even in an unregistered state. I might consider things that have been extracted from other ROMs, but I'm debating that with the voices in my head and will decide later.
3) Apps should be mature, not beta, if possible. I don't want to have to rebuild the ROM every time a new beta version of an app comes out.
4) If possible, attach registry hacks in the form of .reg files to your request. Or at least post the registry entry in you message.
5) It would we swell if someone could take the lead on tallying up the suggestions and help to prioritize. I'll shoot for building the ROM in about 10 days.
If we can keep the additions under 5 Megs total I think we'll be OK.
Here's what will be in there as of now (which is in the current custom ROMs)
-Oregami themes
-digital, cellular, and electronic ringers
-.NET Compact Framework 2
-A2DP/AVRCP
-Wireless Today screen plugin
-enable multi-select/delete contacts
-a hidden treasure map providing the precise pinpoint location of $2.33 in pennies that I previously buried when I was perhaps 7 or 8
First I want to say thinks for the bang up job you have done on putting together these roms for us.
The only things that I would like to see that I can think of would be the registery hack that makes GPRS/EDGE stay on all the time. And I would also like, if it is possible, anything that would make the phone us a WiFi connection, when present and turned on, instead of GPRS/EDGE.
I am not sure if it is possible to do that or not.
Usefull apps
Well I would like to have these applications in the next ROM
1) Smartkeys - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060&highlight=smartkeys
2) Wakeapp - to easily setup OmapClock and other event-driven applications. http://www.kent7.com/holly/wakeapp/ , download EN version at http://kent7.sakura.ne.jp/holly/wakeapp/wa_arm021_e.zip
3) SMSDeliveryFix - to show SMS recipient name in a delivery report - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=42696&highlight=sms+delivery+fix
4) WM5NewMenu - similiar to WM2003 "New" button - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40088&highlight=wm5newmenu
5) WM5torage - PDA acting as a memory card reader without ActiveSync - http://www.modaco.com/WM5torage-t238545.html
6) Some software for sending and receiving vCard via SMS.
Thank you for the great effort
The correct E or G icon
Caps, Num, lock indicators
ability to set OMPA and forget it.
smaller scroll bars
the three reptile themes at this site, I think everyone would like these, grey, blue, and red.
http://www.zombienexus.net/portal/GL_SubDirectory.asp?SEC=3&CatID=70
TCPMP-media player
Total Commander-file explorer/reg editor
Agile Messenger-great messaging app aol, msn, icq etc.
I think these are good apps that everyone could use.
the only thing i think would be beneficial would be adding all the reg edits that reg wiz adds to speed up our device, so we don't have to do it each time we clear storage. THAT would be awesome. i could care less about apps being included, i can install them just fine; but it's a pain in the ass every time i clear storage/flash new rom, that i have to redo all the reg tweaks.
I haven't found a way, but more emphesis on Storage Memory than Program memory would be good for me. I use alot of storage memory with Contacts, Email (even with moving my attachments to storage) and Calendar databases.
I used the much cleaner 2.17 RUU rom without the ringtones but did copy over a couple of them from the 2.17 with RT and OC. Also copied the OMAP clock and it's shortcuts.
A clean Rom without much of the extras would be good.
I also have customized my Cingular connection to use isp.cingular and [email protected] instead of the built in wap.cingular and [email protected] connection. I also turned of the proxy as it was interfeering with my AKU2 push from my Exch2K3-SP2 box.
Is there anyway to use the EXT ROM or add a slider bar like in WM2003SE?
J-Man5
p.s. thanks for the ROMs. I just got my 8125 about 2 weeks ago and have been having mucho grande fun with it.
ROM additions
How about:
- Total Commander
- ?? some sort of free registry editor (PHM RegEdit?)
- smartskey, I agree, but I think it's ini file needs to be in the same directory and it's small so this may not work
- RegWizard (the xda developer forum developed list of hacks), although actually i don't think this is necessary because it along with its framework requires over a meg, and you can just delete it once you install the desired reg hacks. . .
- Magic Button or some other similar task manager thing
I don't think more themes or ringers would be uniformly useful.

Can you add something to truly shut down apps?
I've gotten in the habit of shutting down apps through the running programs tab under memory. Is there any way to make this easier such as putting a direct link in the Start menu to this page or on the Today list.
You know, summiter, you could just fix it so that the programs actually close when you hit the X.

Not unless he is going to rewrite the way Windows Mobile works. Thats a M$ thing. And also why apps such as vBar and Magic Button and InClose exist.
Summiter may be a ROM compiling wizard but lets not lay too many burdens at his feet to fix.
I'm just really happy push email is working.

Continued Bluetooth Fixes
I have notice several still having Bluetooth issues with the lack of support; specifically, SSP over bluetooth. This opens up additional application possibilities not available today. I wouild like to run Bluetooth GPS with receivers such as the Holux 236 GPSlim, but the lack of SSP makes this almost impossible.
Just a thought
I'd like to see common registry hacks already applied and perhaps a txt file explaining the ones included with the new ROM. For example, the ones I listed below are from my own notes so when I re-flash I can re-apply them.
Regarding software, I'd almost prefer to see CAB files instead of pre-loaded software. Since CABs disappear once installed, we could make the choice of installing or deleting, and thus possibly save space but also gain the benefit of having them ready-to-install. You could even use different subdirectories for free vs the ones requiring a registration code to help keep the surprise / disappointment factor down (when we find out it costs money). This would also prevent a problem of competing solutions for some who prefer one plugin over another if they both serve a common function.
Along the same lines, I believe registry hacks can be applied via CAB files or maybe even .reg files (or maybe not - I'm still educating myself with all of this). You could stick with what you have for the current ROM but load it up with optional extras which could be deleted if we just didn't want them.
I think what you're doing is great and applaud your efforts!
I just started configuring my 8125 today, these are the hacks I applied so far (after stepping up to your 2.17 ROM):
Enable scrolling in IE with 4-way button
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Navigation\4-Way Nav
Change Value from 1 to 0.
____________________
Slide-out Keyboard Status Indicator
\HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd
Create entry EnableIndicator and assign DWORD value of 1(decimal)
____________________
Increase your 8125 speed
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\
Change "CacheSize" value from "0" to "4096".
Assign a value of 1 to EnableCache
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\f sreplxfilt\
Assign a value of 4096 to ReplStoreCacheSize
____________________
Disable menu animation – removes menu animation which uses up system resources
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE\Menu
Change "AniType" from "6" (default) to "0" (disabled).
____________________
Change the width of the vertical scroll bar and the height of the horizontal scroll bar so they take less room on the screen:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GWE
Change cxVScr to (say) 9 to make vertical scrollbar narrower. Default value is 13
Change cyHScr to (say) 9 to make horizontal scrollbar narrower. Default value is 13

Enable 802.11g
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\TNETWLN1\Parms]
"dot11SupportedRateMaskG"=dword:00000008
"dot11SupportedRateMask"=dword:00000001
TCPMP
TCPMP definitely, I use this more than any other app on pocketpc devices.
I think you should also consider a paired down ROM. One without any Cingular addons that aren't required to make the device work on Cingular. Basically only the ones that set up MMS and the GPRS settings. I'd even leave out the proxy if thats possible.
But in this paired down ROM I'd still include a few extras like some extra themes and ringers.
And I'd put in the two programs I don't think anyone can live without, SmartSkey and TotalCommader.
Thats basically the setup I have now, but I'm wasting space in my extended ROM and other areas because there are things on my device that I can't remove and I'm not using.

Is Adobe reader prefered over the ClearviewPDF Reader that is already in the ROM?

I'm not familarwith SSP. Is it a profile? What does it enhance/enable?
Do you know if there are any WM5 devices which have it? (perhaps it can be ripped out and added to the Wiz)

haha this is at least the second message that goes something like: "how about a ROM stripped of everything, but add this and that and oh yeah add this too". I say this in good fun so don't take offense. It just indicates that everyone has quite unique needs.
I will create a barebones ROM as well. But I don't want to have too many ROMs out there because I don't want to have to rebuild them all when something changes.
As far as using the Extended ROM for other purposes..as of now it can't be done. It's locked in some way that prevents effectively using as storage space. (if you try to manipulate it, it becomes corrupted). So the only use for it is to install stuff at first boot.
Well I might as well put in my two cents....but first....Summiter....marry me! I'll tell my wife to divorce me and she can take her nokia phone with her!
-Ok definitely Smartskey in the same folder as Omapclock so smartskey.ini file can tell omapclock to clock me at 216 everytime after soft reset.
-Please take out the stupid SIP keyboard...i'ts useless and can only be used by leprechauns with little fingers.
-A way to easily change splash screens.
-Hide SIM contacts
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone
new DWORD value named "ShowSim" and set it to 0
1. Disable menu animations to increase performance:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM\GWE\Menu"
Change "AniType" from "6" (default) to "0" (disabled).
- Add vibration instead of sound to keypresses in the phonepad for better tactile feedback:
for i = 0 to 9
Give an example for "i" Button:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Dtmf "i"]
1. Rename Standart DWORD parameter "Sound" to "Sound1"
2. Create new String Parameter "Sound"
3. Assign value *vibrate* to this new parameter.
For this there is also a cab file available.
***this is a cool registry tweak
- oh and this is a must have, all these pda phones lack in the phone department...people on the other side of a phone call can barely hear us until you put this registry tweak in.
\\\registry\HKLM\Software\HTC\AUDIOGAIN(x)\
changed RECEIVE_UPLINK_VOLUME and EARPHONE_UPLINK_VOLUME values to CC. after that change, microphone sensitivity got better and didn't receive any more complaints.
Though i wish someone knew a way to improve the sound mic quality during speakerphone.
And there are so many ringtones in your rom summiter...they all sound alike lol. put the You've got mail.wav file for incoming mail, i have it if you want. how bout some funny ringtones or music ringtones instead?
k that's all
I encounter a problem when i wan to select different input method. It's so slow to show the menu after i tick the arrow, it's about 5-7 second before it shows up the menu. How to speed it up?
I really do not have an explanation for this but it was like you said 5 - 6 seconds slow my HTC Touch as well.
The other day I wanted to try out a program so I did a complete backup with SPB Backup. After trying out the program I did a hard reset and restored using SPB Backup. Since then the selection has speeded up and now it takes hardly 1 second for the selection list to appear after I have pressed the small triangle on the right side of the SIP icon.
Before I did the backup I also had Cootek's TouchPal installed on my system which was obviously restored as well.
The above is just an observation for which I do not have an explanation. Ideally the SPB Backup should have restored my system to an exact similar state that it was prior to the backup which means that the selection should have continued to remain slow.
Regards
You can try:
Export the registry - CSID and import it again,
using Resco registry
A Few things I recommend
The first would be install omapclock if you don't have something like it already. A setting between 240 - 264 puts most devices safely on crank....
Monitor that along with open running programs. If you have a lot opened but minimized, that will cause the processor to have to free up before it will cycle through the menu selections on the keyboard. You can use oxias memory program called "OxiasMemory". It is a cab file and you can google this site or that name and immediately get a hit. Two programs in the download. One is a kill all running programs which I use rarely, the other is a memory release that will actually dump the ROM cache for programs you have closed out, not just minimized. Remember, windows mobile keeps a small cache open that normally closes out after a long time(hours) of not using a program even if you completely killed the task or you would have to reboot to get it. This program handles it without the reboot.
Use "Sipchanger"(you can search this site or google it). It is a small program, I want to say about 15-20k, that will overide the SIP on your device and run your SIP. Once installed don't forget to reboot and then you can find it under your programs tab.
Anytime you get issues like these they are due to slow performance of the processor. Usually getting bogged down with other more important and more frequantly used apps. Freeing up that processor to do work by offloading the ROM seems to do the trick.
Happy using!!!!!!!!!
Curious George
I have goodlink installed on my Kaiser and can't remove it since it is required by the company.
Well, the bad things are:
1. The goodlink main program "GoodApp.exe" can somehow start itself automatically. It really eat a lot of battery and can cause extra GPRS traffic.
I've remove the .lnk file from \Windows\Startup directory so that GoodApp can't start during system startup.
But, it will still run after several minutes and can't be correcly stopped.
Generally, there're two Good applications displayed in the TaskMgr: GoodApp.exe and GmdMoniterApp.exe, it's easy to kill the GmdMonitorApp.exe but when you want to kill GoodApp.exe, it will always prompt an error, though after that it seems the GoodApp.exe disappears in the TaskMgr. However it will start again after several minutes. CRAZY!
Anyone knows how to kill the GoodApp.exe so that I can run it on my will?
2. The Good software modifies the shortcut to the "Contact" menu (on the bottom-right corner of the screen). Normally when you hit the "Contact" menu it should display the contact list of your SIM card or so. But after installing Good, this menu points to the Good contact list. It's really annoying!
Where could I get the "Contact" menu back?
Thanks a lot!
I'm in the same boat, hate what Good Mail hijacks! Found a couple of ini's but since Good's support site is garbage, it didn't help much.
Have tried a whole mess of things, all to no avail....
If anyone else comes up with any suggestions, I'm all ears.
MBN
Just as a follow up, I've reflashed my phone umpteen times trying various "fixes" with no luck. Thought I'd found the registry entries (HKLM\Sofware\Microsoft\Shell\RAI) and tried tweaking those.... no help, DOH!
Tried to overwrite the various exe's with empty "fabricated" ones (renamed empty text docs and overwrote the Good mail ones), still nothing.
A couple of weeks ago I had a version of Good that at least left the contacts in my dialpad intact...latest version hijacked that one as well.
I have my IT dept contacting Good to see if they will offer any insight (not holding my breath). I fear I am left only with trying a third party PIM.... but the way things are going, Good will hijack that too!!!
If I hear or find anything, I'll update.
MBN
I have to say that GoodLink is the most dirty PDA software I've ever seen.
It uses a lot of dirty method to protect it from being disabled.
There are 3 main programs related with the protection(I can't remembet all the names):
1. GmdLockApp.exe: to protect your cellphone with a password. it will force you to set a password and you'll have to input the password every time the phone come back from standby mode (or so...).
2. GmdProtector.exe: to protect GoodLink components. With this program running, you'll never get a chance to modify any configuration of GoodLink (such as renaming a GoodLink program, or change a Reg key of it...).
3. GmdLaunchGuard.exe: this is the most dirty program, it hijacks almost all other application's shortcuts. Try to search "GmdLaunchGuard" in the Reg table you will find there's many results indicating the original windows configuration was changed by it.
For problem 1 & 2, I got a workaround so that you can at least modify some Reg key to do furthur test and can kill the GmdMonitorApp.exe & GoodApp.exe at last:
Steps:
1. Use GoodLink backup tool to backup it on to the storge card;
2. On the root of storage card there's a directory "GoodLink Backup", enter that dir and just delete the GmdLockApp.exe;
3. Also in that dir, rename the GmdProtector.exe to GmdProtectorBak.exe or something like that;
4. Soft reset you cellphone (by pressing both function keys then press reset) to let it return to the original state;
5. After restart, in the storage card root dir, there's a Restore GoodLink short cut, excute it will restore GoodLink to the memory;
6. Enter Windows\Startup dir, delete the short cut which points to GoodLink;
After above steps at least GoodLink will not start immediately after system startup, but it can start at anytime (I'm not sure).
However you can kill the GmdMonitorApp.exe and GoodApp.exe in the TaskMgr. You'd better stop GPRS before you kill GoodApp.exe, or it will prompt you an error.
For problem 3 (actually it relates with displaying the contacts), I still didn't find a good way to resolve it (simply rename the GmdLaunchGuard.exe will not work, and perhaps will make you can't load any program).
However you can see your SIM card contact by pressing "Send" key, it will bring out the contact list though it's very inconvenient and lossing some functionality such as smart searching...
You can rename the GoodApp.exe so it will never be started.
I could probably live with the constant presence of Good, I just hate that it hijacked my contacts....
It links contacts to only one of our company's address books, and it happens to be the employee addy book.... doesn't exactly help me much.
Oh, and have I mentioned that it's pushing Lotus Notes...another favorite of mine!
Resurrecting an old thread here... I hate how Good hijacks the Calendar and Contacts softkeys and I want to work on that issue again. Has anyone made progress with that?
As far as the GPRS activity and battery life, if you launch GoodMail and then goto the options menu you can set it to "Work Offline" which prevents it from auto-checking for new mail. You can then go to that same options menu whenever you want and select "Send/Receive" to manually pull your mail.

Description
So what makes mine different? Well, my app is actually very similar to MastSogo's ManilaControl. The main difference is that I plan to actively develop it now for a while, whereas ManilaControl has been a bit frozen in development for a few months. Mine is also open source, licensed under the Ms-RL. Mine is on CodePlex, so download speeds should be much better than the average rapidshare link. Finally, mine is in English and not Spanish. Other than that, it's just another solution for the same problem!
I must give a hearty thank you and bow to MastSogo for inspiring me to work on this.
I believe I am using a similar technical solution to his, but mine is written from the ground up, so it shares no source code with his!
See it in action on the YouTubes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uk0xWm8PMGQ
Current features
- Free up your Today screen by hosting Manila outside of the Today screen! TouchFlo Detacher can launch/show/hide/close Manila independent of any other Today screen settings. Now you can have your TouchFlo cake and eat it too! The most obvious use is to assign a soft key to toggle between seeing TouchFlo and seeing the regular Today screen.
- Supports TouchFlo 3D and TouchFlo 2D.
- NO ANNOYING SPLASH SCREEN when application launches.
- Configuration application allows advanced customizations so that this utility can be used with non-standard or untested Manila versions.
- Configuration application can clean out the ManilaActivateToday.exe from the notification queue. (That app can interefere with TouchFlo Detacher's operation.)
- Shortcuts to start/show Manila, hide Manila, toggle (show/hide) Manila, and close Manila. These can be assigned to hardware buttons (if your device has them), to virtual hardware buttons through the use of 3rd party applications such as AE Button Plus, or to gestures using 3rd party applications such as FTouchSL.
- Configuration application can customize the softkeys in both Today and TouchFlo's Home tab. You can use it to not only assign TouchFlo Detacher operations (show/hide/close), but any other application on your device.
- Launch an application after TouchFlo launches... Such as SSMaHo. It's easy. Create an attach link in SSMaHo. Put the attach link in the config: \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\SSMaHo Attach.lnk
Known Issues
- On the Touch HD, the home hardware button does not return to the Manila "home" tab. This does not happen on the Pro or Diamond. Workaround: none. Scheduled fix: unknown.
- Sometimes the clock on the TouchFlo home page will stop and go out of sync with the real time. Workaround: hide and then show manila. I may need to create a scheduled task that can do that as an automatic workaround once per day for those experiencing the problem. Scheduled fix: unknown.
History
1.0.1.1 STABLE FINAL - Fixed bugs in 1.0.1.0; Added ability to launch an app after TouhcFlo launches.
1.0.1.0 BETA - The first version of TFD that no longer requires a pseudo-service. All functionality should be identical to 1.0.0.5, otherwise.
1.0.0.5 STABLE - The "hide then show" workaround wasn't working in some instances, so I put extra detection code in to determine the current state of Manila before issuing the hide/show commands. If this doesn't work, I can add customizable delays. Also added AppToDate support!
1.0.0.4 STABLE - First release I am considering stable! It is identical to the very tested 1.0.0.3 except for one new feature. When you start the TFDService you can now optionally have it hide and then show Manila immediately. It does this VERY quickly, so you may not even notice it happening on screen. This is done so as a workaround some users are having where they cannot access the phone until Manila is hidden at least one time. Very odd behavior. It is working perfectly in my tests, but please let me know if this workaround doesn't work for you.
1.0.0.3 Beta - TF2D support I think is finally complete! Please test! New layout for TFDConfig. Standard and advanced options are now in separate tabs. More advanced options for alternate Manila configurations. Fixed bug in config where a crash could happen when you tried removing ActivateManilaToday. Toggle TouchFlo command is now available (note: this toggles show/hide, NOT show/close).
1.0.0.2 Beta - New language-neutral detection of Manila process and window handles (no longer need to know titles!). Fixed (hopefully) bug where the softkeys sometimes didn't hide correctly. Window class "search" is no longer case sensitive. Optional delay when starting Manila at system start-up (attempting to work around issue where Manila won't launch on startup).
1.0.0.1 Beta - Confg app can now start the service. The service has better error reporting. Config app can remove TouchFlo today item. No need to soft reset! TouchFlo 2D support (maybe - I'm trying!). Some crappy icons ;-) ... Service detects if TouchFlo Today item is enabled. Link to start and stop the service. Fixed installer bugs. Bug fixes!
1.0.0.0 Beta (aka BETA1) - Initial release

Installation
As explained on CodePlex...
1. Install the CAB
2. Run TFDConfig (important!!!)
3. Enable all the standard Today Items you want to use
4. Do not re-enable TouchFlo in the Today items (if you do, it will undo all your other Today plugins and your device might freeze up, requiring a soft reset)
Requirements
Windows Mobile 6.1
.Net Compact Framework 2.0
A device that runs TouchFlo3D (Manila) or TouchFlo2D (Manila2D).
FAQ
FAQ
Q: I uninstalled TouchFlo Detacher but TouchFlo did not come back!
A: Changes made with TFDConfig will not automatically be undone when you uninstall TouchFlo Detacher. To get TouchFlo back, go into your phone's settings. Go into Today. Go to the "items" tab. Check in "TouchFlo 3D" (or 2D or whatever). Exit. TouchFlo will be back.
Q: I uninstalled TouchFlo Detacher but my softkeys did not go back to the way they were before!
A: Changes made with TFDConfig will not automatically be undone when you uninstall TouchFlo Detacher. Do not worry! Fixing this is very simple. Before uninstalling TFD, it's recommended you run TFDConfig one more time and reassign the softkeys to whatever you want them to be. For TouchFlo's softkeys, all you have to do is set them both to empty (as in, nothing) to get the default softkeys (phone/programs). For Today's softkeys, you can assign them to whatever you want -- calendar, phone, contacts, your choice!
If you have already uninstalled TFD, you will need to use a registry editor to reset the values. Here are the relevant keys:
Today left softkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112
[Default] = Text on softkey
Open = Path to program to run
Today right softkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113
[Default] = Text on softkey
Open = Path to program to run
TouchFlo 3D left softkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila
HomeLSKText = Text on softkey
HomeLSKPath = Path to program to run (or blank for default)
TouchFlo 3D right softkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila
HomeRSKText = Text on softkey
HomeRSKPath = Path to program to run (or blank for default)
TouchFlo 2D left softkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila2D\Home
SK1 = Text on softkey
SK1Cmd = Path to program to run (or blank for default)
TouchFlo 2D right softkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila2D\Home
SK2 = Text on softkey
SK2Cmd = Path to program to run (or blank for default)
Hi,
Is this a Manila3D only switcher or will it also work with Manila2D? I have been using Mastsogo's until now, but the lack of support is a bit worrying.

Hi,
Is this a Manila3D only switcher or will it also work with Manila2D? I have been using Mastsogo's until now, but the lack of support is a bit worrying.

It may work with TF2D, I just have no way to test it since my device is TF3D. In the config, you can specify the location of the Manila EXE and the window class/titles. I'm assuming since MastSogo's did both, it's just a matter of tweaking those settings. As soon as somebody gets me that info, I can add it into the config app.
Installed on a Wizard (WM6.1 5.2.20273) running Manilla2D, set Today screen to use TodayAgenda 1.5 only. After soft reset, I get a Win32Exception with the following debugging information (see attached).
I'm checking the launch parameters in the config now (I started with the defaults).
Sheesh, I should have checked the parameters before going to the work of assembling that debugging jpeg. For Manila2D, the two references to Manila.exe need to be changed to Manila2D.exe. I still don't have it working, but at least it only throws one error message now.
I don't have any more testing time today. Good luck with your app.

As Uracil said, the name of the executable for TF2D is Manila2D. That's why Manila control needs a config program. It asked which one you are using and sets the parameter accordingly.
Fantastic. Loaded this onto my AT&T Stock, fully bloated Fuze. Works like a champ! Great app, thanks!
I will try this for sure!
TWO THINGS!
1) anybody knows a safe way to uninstall Manila Control?
2) I am a bit affraid of this "resident" thing... this program (TFD let's call it) uses one of the very scarce 32 processes? if YES sorry it's not for me (I am already dangerously close to the limit - up to the point that some sync processes don't have where to run)
nice app! well done
Ran through the steps to set it up, on soft reset the device hangs at the startup HTC animation, Hard reset time , the manila im using has the following mods:
CFC Compression
Background 4 all tabs (mun rus)
Stocks tab
HD contacts
Will investigate further..
EDIT: Havent been able to replicate this issue after a hard reset, probably something else i installed.
Minor issue ive spotted though, set left softkey in TF3D to "Today" which hides TF3D....in the blank today screen i dont see the setting for the left softkey (Which is set to "TouchFlo 3D" and should show TF3D) i still see the softkey setting from when TF3D is visible. So the effect is i cant get back to TF3D after hiding it unless i literally run it from the start menu.

WM 6.x and newer raised the process limit to 32768, so you should be fine.
EDIT: I was wrong! Don't believe me! Keep reading below. (The short of it: WM6 is based on CE 5.0, NOT CE 6.0, which is the version of CE that doesn't have the 32 process limit.)

The exception you showed is the service not finding the EXE. There are two places you need to change it. The "EXE Only" config is just the name of the EXE (for finding it in the running process list). The "full path" is where the file is located in the file system (including the EXE name!). Did you change both?
Thanks for the info. I'm going to make that "file not found" error more friendly for beta2. Also, now that I know what I'm looking for, I can add a built-in way to switch from Manila3D to Manila2D.

Does it get to the Today screen at all? The service is in the Startup folder. All it does is try to Launch manila.exe at startup (you can actually even disable that if you want to in the config), so it would be really weird if that froze the device. Not saying it's not possible, just really really weird!

No man you are wrong (100%).
In *my* WM6.1 at least, the limit is 32. Well in fact all WM6.1.
Only new WinCE (not the builds used in WM6.X) have lifted this limit.
WM7 is supposed to not have this limit (because uses different WinCE) and a very small possibility (like 5%) that WM6.5 will have this limit lifted.
With the help of Daniel Herrero (the guy that makes CommManagerPro) we even built a simple app that we run as much as we could, to test this.
Sure enough my device after 4-5 runs started killing other apps. After 1-2 more runs, I got a pop-up that said that I cannot run more apps because I reached the process limit. My device is a loaded Touch Pro.
His much lighter X1, sure enough came to the same result, but only after more runs, about 10 or something (since he had more process "slots" free).
So you probably have to (and please do) rethink your strategy (for example use a REAL service or handle things based on triggers) as processes ARE a scarce commodity in WM.
At least add a mode or something that doesn't use a process all the time (even with some extra delay). I will certainly NOT eat more of my processes.
I installed this on my Touch HD... ran config but chaned nothing, disabled TF3d and soft reset... now don't know what to do... seem to be missing a step... for example how to toggle between Today and TF3d... running hide and close tf3d in the utilities folderdoes nothing

You are right. I was going on what I read on another website from a while back. I just did some research and, sure enough, WM6 is based on CE 5, which has the 32 process, 32MB limit still in place.
The strategy I am using will not change as there is no way (that I know of) to write a service DLL in the Compact Framework, but if somebody knows of a way, I will certainly look into it.
EDIT: I did a check and I'm only running 24 processes with my media app, Total Commander, TFD, 3 other "service" apps (dont forget, PocketShield, VistaHide Battery Bar). That leaves me with 6 more apps until WM6 gets nervous (it seems to close after going above 30). How are you so close? I'm not judging your mobile computing habits, I'm just curious! Also, I'm thinking of rolling the "service" code into stand alone EXEs for cases like yours, but it will be very slow switching back and forth. I tested that at first before deciding on the memory resident app and it took about 5 seconds to switch each time. But maybe you'll have better luck!

It's possble the HD may have a slightly different Manila configuration than the Diamond/Pro. If you find the manila.exe and can scan the window classes and titles (such as with FDCsoft's Task manager) that will give you the info you need to configure it for the HD. If you figure it out, post it here so I can add it to the config app.

Let me see if I am understanding you. The left soft key on the "real" Today screen says "TouchFlo" but it isn't launching TouchFlo? If you go into the configuration and set the Today left soft key using my quick drop down (Show TouchFlo 3D) this doesn't fix the issue? If so, can you post what the app path is that it is showing?
i know there are threads related to this already. and i have searched high and low but nothing has worked for me.
i am currently using this rom - 6.1 WWE ROM shifu V08 M2D|RAM 101|LZX|D3D|Full
its great and works nice but seems to have the same problem with the task manager killing programs.
i have tried the registry tweak and advanced config tool to disable the autokill function and to try and also make it only free memory when there is 1mb left. but it still does it regardless.
if the htc task manager shows 50-60% used memory, and i run a buncha programs like, skype, ie, calc, google maps, etc. it'll show up as approx 70-80% usage, but still kills old programs not in current view!
this is driving me nuts. cus it feels like i have 30% more usage left in my device's ram but that either windows or the htc task manager wont ever let me use...
biggest issue with this is that manila will "sometimes" also be closed. or when switching between programs like tomtom and contacts or calendar. i wanna get info from one program and then go back into another program to paste it or type it, by the time i get there its closed! annoying crap lol
