A few months ago there was a number of threads about the problems with the HTC Alpine camera, and someone found that there was a fundamental hardware fault which causes alternate lines in the picture to be swapped, thus the appalling quality of the pictures.
I also recall someone posting a small program (or a link to it) which would take an afflicted BMP file and correct this problem, but despite searching the forum I have failed to find it.
Would anyone be so kind as to remind me where to find this program, or is there another solution to this fault?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I tried one of the ROM images kindly provided, but the problem with the line-swapping on the pictures is still there.
In deperation I spent ages searching my very disorganised PC for that little program I found on xdadevelopers which swaps alternate lines and thus restores the pictures to the glory that HTC's abysmal engineering deprives them of.
Eventually I found it. It is called BMPChop.exe. It is a command line program to run on a PC, which swaps alternate lines then compresses the BMP file into JPEG, with the chosen compression level. The pictures look so much better once this has been done!
If anyone is interested, I can post it on this forum again (which is where I originally got it from).
But going back to the supposed camera-fixed ROM images, what has been changed other than removing the o2 camera patch? Has the ROM's author added his own patch to fix the line-swapping problem? It's just that I didn't find any improvement when using this ROM.
cheers
I would be interested to try the programme if you could post it on the forum, thanks.
Here it is:
many thanks. 8)
To be honest I can't see a difference between the 2. I took a picture with just a plain BMP file, converted it using the BMPChop and compared it with the new file and couldn't see a difference.
What command line are you supposed to use?
I used "BMPChop filename.bmp /100". The /100 sets highest JPEG quality. I have tried lower values but there is an obvious loss of quality.
The improvement in picture quality after running this program should be quite obvious, especially on diagonal edges and other line details, such as spectacle frames, which look jagged in the original images, especially if you zoom in a bit.
Look i searched but i cant figure it out. O.k. i put the nadavi camera .cab on my tilt and i noticed a photo selection called (GPS) so i tryed it. but i guess the main question is what does it do. I even noticed that it activates the gps. so again what does this do and what is the use for this thing? i appreciate any help.
The key with searches is reading what you find!
Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway, the picture is taken & encoded with exif data. When formatted properly you can see the location the picture was taken at in google earth. There are a few programs that can upload & view the location in a map as well. I guess it can be used for documenting road trips, scouting for hunts, geological tracking, etc.
thank you, thank you, thank you. That was a quick reply and i appreciate it

Schaps AdvancedConfig lets you do it, it's one of the options.

Great little program.
Note: I was assuming by "Diamond dialer" you mean the phone skin, if that's not what you're talking about sorry. I didn't realize it gave that much memory, that's the only reason I'm putting this.

Thank you my friend thanks very much...
The problem is, you lose a lot of functionality by disabling it. (Video calls, Volume keys, turn phone upside down to mute, save to contacts popup etc. etc.)
I wish someone could find out why it takes so much RAM and compress the images or something to make it smaller.

Eh, video calls aren't functional for me anyways... I have no front camera...
But yeah, I keep it on because I didn't notice a huge performance difference with it off, and it looks so much nicer when it's there.
It takes memory because of the images. The images are almost all stored in a dll, so compressing them is not easy.

Most images in DLL's can be taken out with a resource editor like Resource Hack. Then you can compress the images and put them back in. If I knew which dll we were talking about, I would give it a try.
I think here is another discussion about the same topic:

But they need to remain as the correct format to work, and they may not work well if compressed...
phcan.dll, and phcanOver.dll (or something like that) contain quite a lot of the images.
The thread linked above is indeed about this particular discussion, but not the same as the OP.
hello everybody,
its my first post and i'm trying to get help about manging notes. i've looked in other forums, used seach here, and i couln't find what any answer suitable.
the thing is that i use notes for my work a lot, but after a while i get stuck with lots of them that may be useful in the future but not right now. so i woukd like to know if there is a way (software) that would let store them by topic or any other form. i've read that we can't even read them in vista (pwi files).
the note option is great, after acaal you make one and it stores the contact and tima, but afterward you can only store them together.
thank you for your help.

If you have a full MS Offiice installation, check out OneNote. It will let you catagorize and sort to your hearts content. I am using Evernote, which I like it beacuse it is very searchable. You can even search for text in an uploaded image. If you are talking about the call notes, you might want to invest in a CRM program such as ACT.
I hope this helps
Camera takes raw images in kalim 10.9

Sent from my HTC Tattoo using XDA App
Thanks. I see that it is possible to convert the outputted .raw image to jpg. We can somehow say it is done! Just to complicated to be done everyday!
Hopefully they will translate in English and post the ROM in here. Would love to try it out. Lots of outstanding features and capturing images in RAW is exactly what I need.
Taking photos in raw format seems to be working well (someone even posted a photoshop script that'll translate those raw photos to jpeg). However, there are a couple of things that aren't working right now, namely:
Preview isn't working yet.
There seems to be some problem with camera unloading. When you close camera app, the camera won't behave correctly in any other app.
But it is, indeed, a giant leap forward thanks to kalimochoaz

Why I have not posted my work here
Hi all,
I have decided not to post it here this ROM together with Arco ( from the past this forum has been filled of ) for some good reasons.
Yo already have Arco's Gingerbread. This is an excelent ROM
I realy want to have camera working, so I prefere not to doble post ( spanish / english ) takes time.
Not fill this foro with people thinking that the ROM makes photos. This ROM only makes RAW at this moment.
I don't like credit, this is a work together with HTC mania guys and Arco's work. The ROM is from Cyanogen Team, so all credit for them.
If anyone feels that can help, of course, always it will be welcome. I don't need credit as I said before, I need camera working. Take a look at my github, all is in there. I hope in not to much time is in cyanogen so it will be more esasy for all of you to download and compile...
For the ROM statements, Arco's ROM is always one step advanced from mine, He is doing a great work for all of us. Also I am receiving help from HCDRJacob and Cyanogen.
Feel free to take the git or the ROM and suggest for camera topics. More people helping -> more possibilities to have it working.
Thanks for asking for my work.
one question, where are the RAW files stored... i can't seem to find a folder...

Create a directory in sdcard: /DCIM/Camera ( case sensitive ). This camera app is for test so I don't make the directory if it doen't exists and no jpeg can be stored.
Once you go out of the camera reboot the tattoo it will consume resources and you will not be able to go again into camera app witout reboot

I'm trying to follow your excellent work in camera things from few months, and you are the only one that is trying to solve this thing.
Tattoo is not a great phone, hardware is not realy like his major brothers, so lost also camera and fm is realy making me hungry.
Obviusly is not a fault of the people like you that spend lot of time and money (becouse time is money) on this great work, but i think that the most important thing before make a fully costumized rom,is gain a working kernel with at least camera working, i hope that is the point that all rom maker like you are trying to do.
I belive that an opensource community MUST collaborate to gain the max from a common ideal, HTC lost us in the deep space of 1.6, you and others still working hard, but please, do this hard work in english on this forum, just to make us able to test and , others that can, able to help.
Thanks to all rom developer, thanks to you for your hard work, i hope this pray would be recived

I 100% agree. FMRadio probably will never work, but camera would be THE step. And if behind the great kalim there is cyanogen we are in excellent hands.
