Archive program for the mobile - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

Is there any archive program equivalent of 7zip for the windows mobile? I know that there is a portable version of winrar, but that only unarchives zip and rar files. I'd need something to unarchive tar files. Total Commander only does zip files.
I'd prefer free solutions too, but that may be asking too much
Thanks in advance.

try to search next time
goto winrar.com and download the latest version for pocket pc and thre you go, 7z support.

But doesn't winrar for the mobile only do rar and zip files? I know the desktop does more, but I thought the mobile version was limited.

Just the first one.
thanks for all your help
uprey..... I got the file but when I unrar it to my new folder designated for it there no exe or cab to staert with can you walk me through it..... Thanks for everything so far.
The file I linked to is a CAB file, not a RAR file. Don't open it in WinRAR-copy the file to your device and run it on your device by using File Explorer to browse to it, then click it to run. It will install the software that way.
ah thanks man you just mad the stuipd less stuipd

.arm file help

hey guys im really sorry for creating this thread but I downloaded a .arm file to my comp and i synced to my tilt and my tilt wont open the file. how do i open a .arm file on my tilt? sorry for the n00b question. I searched google and no answer so i was hoping my fellow tilt brothers would help out a guy in the process of learning.
As far as I know .arm is not any format native to Windows Mobile / PPC applications.
Generally, when installing software on your device it will come in one of three forrmats:
1) .CAB file - This is like a specially designed zip file which you transfer to your device and run from your device. It contains all the information to install the files in the necessary locations, and generally also creates the proper shortcuts/icons.
2) .EXE file (PPC format) - This is an executable file for your PPC. It will only run on your PPC. If you try to run this from windows you will get an error (something like "not a valid win32 application"). This is what generally gets extracted from the .CAB file aboved and gets placed somewhere on your PPC.
3) .EXE file (Windows format) - This is a normal windows .EXE file and is generally a windows based installer for the program, much like a normal installation program for any Windows PC. When you run it, it often will place a .CAB file onto your device (or into the ActiveSync queue) to be installed. this type of EXE must be run from Windows XP/Vista itself and won't launch on the PPC directly.
If you are downloading a file different from the above from a vendor, they probably also provide instructions. I have not seen any program come in a format other than the above (unless they were also compressed with ZIP or RAR and needeed uncompressing first).
here is what the ext arm could mean
http://filext.com/file-extension/arm
but it could also be that you use some odd filemanager like file explore which dont show the right extentions and the file was called blabla.arm.cab
and explore is hiding the cab
use total commander
That does make sense. A lot of cabs for the arm architecture are called for example netcf.arm.cab. If you aren't using a good file explorer you are not gonna see the file extension. Do your note shoe note.pwi?
Are you sure it's .arm & not .amr? .amr is a media type file.
I find large file extension database here http://www.file-extensions.org

I don't think there is a phone that can use zipped files right out of the box, so you should first unpack the content of the zip, as you would do it on the PC.

pretty sure I've been opening ZIP files on my X1 via the default File Manager without any 3rd party software.
Although I'm guessing the original poster is getting confused between CAB and ZIP because Windows XP likes to treat them as the same.
I'v a question! Please help.
Well, if .zip file contain .cab or .exe then the procedure is lay down.
What in the case of zip files of theme or clock contain only .png file in that.
I mean, how to use such zips??
For more clarity to my question please check attachment enclosed & explain me, "In case I want to install that clock on my WM, how to proceed??"
Thanks in advance!!
You don't use the .zip, you have to copy those .png images into a specific folder.
Or maybe you downloaded the source images, i don't really know, i never installed a new clock theme or something.
Where do you have this file from?

Just install the PocketRAR CAB onto your device and then run it. You can then associate then RAR files with PocketRAR using the settings.

Dave
yeah its pretty easy lol if you downloaded pocket RAR from rarlab.com though then you need to run the exe from your computer while your phone is connected through activesync but if you want just the cab go to freewarepocketpc.net or just search PocketRAR CAB

I usually unzip from my computer, then drag the cab files over.
7zip has a website see if they have a mobile phone edition there.
http://rs520.rapidshare.com/files/176176998/HTC.rar
The file you uploaded looks like 7zip for Windows, not Windows Mobile. I checked the 7zip website and there's a mobile version there, but it hangs on my Tilt when I start the extraction process. It ends up saying that I need to close some programs to free up memory, then soft resets.
You can try Xplore (from LonelyCatGames). I believe it handles 7z too, but haven't tried .. I used it for Zip and RAR ok.
However, I'd rather extract the ROM on PC and put the NBH to memory card. Doing so on your phone takes a very long time due to size ..
Xplore doesn't support 7zip. I totally agree with you - I'd much rather be unzipping on my pc then transferring to my phone but I have a mac at home that just doesn't play nice with my Win Mobile phone. This usually causes me to forget about flashing the new OS when I get home from work...

I'm pretty sure that's the one that I've already tried - it installs fine and starts ok, but once I try to extract anything it asks for a task to close, then soft-resets.
I think you will find the file is simply too large to be handled & unzipped with available free memory.
I have used 7-zip a few times & it has worked ok but they were probably quite small in size compared to your ROM image file.
The task needs to be handled on a PC.
Can't find it either
A while ago I looked for a 7zip app myself. Never could really find one that worked.
Here's all the information I could find:
http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=69426 Some russian form which supposedly has a 7zip app. This page is linked to from 7-zip.org
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462193 This is the only real post on xda I could find by searching. It seems to just have the same app as the one from the russian form. There is a WWE version of the app though. I couldn't actually get either of the versions of the app to work though. So try it yourself I guess.
If anyone does have a nice 7-zip app, I'd be glad to know of it though.

Yeah, I saw the same posts. It seems like Mister B is right, there just isn't enough RAM for the PPC version of 7zip to work on the Kaiser. Hopefully there's a developer out there with our same problem...
found this 7zip for mobile. works on my pure.
