Hi there,
I've been using my Universal for about 1 year and I'm about to sell it in order to buy a Kaiser. So I'd like to know if it is worth buying it.. Has anyone of you upgraded from the Uni to the Kaiser and what about the things you like/ dislike ?
(Is the passage from VGA to QVGA a problem ?)
Thanks
I'm waiting on one from T-Mob. as of today.
Will try to keep you posted.
i think you can focus on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=331459&page=2
seems to be about the same...
HTC done away with the Samsung 400mhz chip and replaced the entire chipset with a Qualcomm 7200 400mhz dual CPU with integrated imageon hardware 2D/3D graphics accelerator. This qualcomm chip is over EIGHT times faster at processing and TWENTY times faster at graphical drawing compare with Samsung chip.
It has built in GPS and can do voice and data at the same time. This is what sold me.
Changed from Jasjar,
Only one thing bothers me: I cannot get used to the (smaller) keyboard.
Sometimes typing in Messenger I seem to have hit the wrong key and it leaves the program, doing someting else.
Cannot get rid of that problem.
Rest is a real upgrade.

Hi iv read a bit about the TyTN2 not having d3d support. And that video etc is lacking from this. But does this make the TyTN better? Or does it have the same problems.
Im just about to order The TYTN2 but i dont want to get a phone that is slower than the one i already have?
Any thoughts?
The original TyTN plays videos better for me using TCPMP. But then again, I haven't done any controlled tests on it, software setup isn't exactly the same, yada yada yada. Still, I really wouldn't recommend the Kaiser. Even if it is faster (which I don't find it to be) it would be so marginal as to not be worth the money.
Is this everybodys opinion?
This is my understanding of the situation. The CPU in these 2 devices is not the same. The original TyTN had no 3D processing hardware. The TyTN II does have 3D processing hardware in the Qualcomm CPU. However it has no drivers for it, so it ends up being software rendered. That maybe also apply to direct draw for 2D video processing.
so at least that means that it eaqualy fast/slow? and that we have the hope that a d3d driver is released?
I'd never buy something with the HOPE that it will get better. You shouldn't base your decision on that. HTC has pretty much stated they have no intentions of providing a solution. Our only hope is that we can put enough pressure on them to make them see things differently. But again, I wouldn't bet on it.
If drivers do come out for it, then the Kaiser will still be there for you to buy later. If they don't, then you haven't wasted your money. What's the rush?
I agree with Blowfish64 and I wish I could go back in time and follow his recommendation a month ago when I bought my TyTN II. My hope right now is that I can trade it or a JASJAM with minimal loss
Im getting the phone for free. Have the TyTN now and am quite happy with it. So if the extra memory is of any help i think ill go for it if it is true that is just as fast as the TyTN
That depends on what you use the phone for. Have you had memory problems? If you're a gamer or play lots of videos then I recommend that you cool it for a while, while praying that HTC come to their senses and release ROM updates enabling the 3D and multimedia acceleration that the TyTN II is capable of.
Is there no other Windows Mobile PDA with the same Qualcom Chip? No chance of copying only the drivers to the TYTN2?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Kaiser was the first one with the MSM 7200 processor so it would have the best chance to receive a ROM update soon.
Well if you're getting it for free, why even ask? Unless you're talking about a trade in. But actually, I just ran a couple of tests with a friend's 8525, and using tcpmp to access the Imageon acceleration of that phone, it definitely plays video way better than the Tilt. If you're running out of memory constantly on your 8525, get the Tilt. If you're looking for performance, stay away. That's all I can tell you.
I can get witch ever phone i like for free. 1 per year. Well if i like the TyTN but would like a faster phone.. with qwerty what would you recomend?
(sure hope its not to late to cancel the order )
Check this thread for a fair review:

As for what you're looking for, there really isn't one. That's the problem. After a few years on the market, the TyTN is still the fastest slide out qwerty around. The eTen m800 will be coming out soon with a faster processor and a VGA display, but I've heard their quality has problems as well.
Guys,
How would you c ompare the Artimis with TyTN2?
Thanks.

Yes, the M800 may be a good device, but with a VGA display, I hope there will be a 2D/3D accelerator inside, or it may be slow. I had a X50v with its onboard 2700G accelerator, and the VGA display was very fast. But I also had a HTC Universal, with no hardware acceleration, in this case the VGA display was not fast enough for graphical applications (videos, etc... just like our Kaiser wich only give us QVGA for the same speed than the Universal !).
Now that we know the specs and looks of the new Raphael device, which is the successor of the Titan(mogul) line (which is the clone line of the Tytn line), we can already guess the specs of the Tytn III, to a high level of accuracy.
So, in essence, the Tytn III is going to differ from the Tytn II, in that it will have a VGA screen (still 2.8"), and will feature a slicker design where the front surface will be one plane (like the cruise), probably with pointy corners, smaller depth and lighter weight.
Hardware video acceleration is still an unknown.
That's basically it.
Is it enough for an upgrade ?
vga alone is enough for an update for me. Also HTC said they would never again not include video drivers for their future phones. if this is true I'd be more than happy to give them another go.
There's still too many unknowns at the moment, I don't think it's possible to judge just yet. The all important drivers will be a major, major issue for some - this device could be absolutely stunning in performance, or it could be just a small increase on the Kaiser (if at all), we just don't know.
I think, after what happened with the Tytn II, a lot of people will be waiting for real world comprehensive hands-on reports before they consider an upgrade. Too many people got their fingers burnt on what they assumed would be in the current model.

Did they, really?? All I remember is an offish, wooly statement to the effect that undisclosed future devices would probably be more video-centric, I don't remember any solemn promises about what all future phones might have. The way you word it makes it sound as if HTC were actually apologetic or admitted fault in some way, and that's certainly not the case!
We also can't rule out the possibility that if the Tytn III comes with a video driver, than it will be possible to port it to the Tytn II.
The Tytn II with hardware video acceleration will be a totally different device too...
The 2.8" screen is a *tiny* screen. I'm not sure how much VGA is going to add to the overall experience on such a tiny screen... but on the other hand, video acceleration is going to be a big thing.
I'm simply annoyed that I'm going to spend money on the Tytn III mainly to get a feature I should have gotten with the Tytn II - hardware video acceleration. This is just not fair.
If the Tytn III does not come with the driver, there is no way I'm upgrading though.
HTC is a bunch of douche bags. They have either forgotten or never understood how to deliver on cutomer needs. If the TyTNII adds video acceleration (which is still a big question mark) and VGA it will not imo be a worthy upgrade. I just paid $700 for this TyTNII! Honestly, I think ppl need to get out of the mindset that we need to let HTC nickel and dime us to death with little upgrades and big disappointments. I might have to wait a little while until 2009, but I want my next device to be based on the Nvidia APX 2500. Look into it, that chip is sick. Hopefully I will be able to say "bye bye" to HTC for good.

I think the big question is, would anyone buy another htc device again... frig, I'm still waiting for the proper video drivers for the tytn 2!! and the problem with the video drivers is not going to be solved once they come out, the big problem facing htc is that we had to wait how friggin long to get them!!!
anyway, if apple comes out with a iphone with everything people want (the iphone 2, or 3 ... maybe 4), htc will end up making nothing but low end cell phones to just survive... keep an eye on htc's stock the next time a new iphone comes out.
So to answer your question, no I'd never upgrade to another htc unless they get their sh*t together. ...would be great if htc gave us fools that bought the tytn2 a trade in / upgrade!
any idea when it might be out?
It will probably get announced at the beginning of May, with the rest of the new HTC devices, and be released at September, same as the Tytn II and I.

margatenj,
They will never release drivers for the Tytn II, it will not be economically wise for them to pay the fees retroactively, for a soon to be a discontinued model. Many people who never bought HTC before will love to buy the Tytn III with video acceleration drivers. It is going to be a huge hit for newcomers who don't know or don't care how HTC fu%@ed up their customers in the past.
And let's admit it, some of us current owners will happily upgrade to the Tytn III, even if the only difference will be the inclusion of hardware video drivers. It's not like you lose all the money on the current Tytn II, you ebay it, but there is still going to be some $400 difference...
my guess is that Tytn III will be almost identical to sonyericsson Xperia.
You have to understand that the Titan and Tytn lines are identical. The Tytn III will look identical to the Raphael.
I'm willing to bet money on this (if anyone wants to lose his money, that is).
Yak yak yak....
Com' on guys 'n dolls....cut out the whining about these friggin' drivers...

VGA screen and no drivers..... o dear.... o no.... imagine the speed.. probably 4x slower than the kaiser.

I don't want to wach movies on my Kaiser, nor do I want to play 3D games.
All I ask is that once I open the hardware keyboard, the screen will shift from portrait to landscape, *instantaniously*, at all times.
Without hardware video acceleration, this is impossible.

Sure you don't.... but my guess is that the other 90% of geeks over on this board DOES want all that....which isn't very realistic.
And IMHO it's neither realistic to expect an instant (as in 0,000 seconds) switch of orientation from an OS that has gotten almost as big as Windows98 over the years... I think a lag of about two seconds is at least acceptable and realistic for a device that was developed throughout 2006.
I do agree that every thinkable technical advance is very welcome. And in case of forthcoming VGA devices also very neccesary to keep that lag acceptable...
As for the geeks; get an iPhone...a PSP...or whatever...
And since your location nor device is disclosed from your profile....i must just assume your using a crap ROM...maybe get another?

I'm using NoThrill's 6.1 ROM for my Kaiser. One of the fastest ROMs available.
Yes, sometimes the lag is 1 second or less, and at other times it's more.
This frigging lag causes me many times to skip opening the keyboard altogether if the message isn't long, and just type with the stylus.
Hardware video acceleration provides a totally different experience than software acceleration. Try to use your desktop computer with software video acceleration and tell me how you like it, even for the most basic things like rendering 2D images of the interface.

Then i guess everybody has quite a different treshold of what to define as an anoying lag.... Personally, i never ever use the onscreen keyboard, i always use the hardware keyboard and keys, and to me the rotation of about 1,5 secs is perfectly acceptable
To me the TyTN II has all i could need for the foreseeable future, and new devices with VGA are nice (aspecially for browsing and office apps), but in no way worth an upgrade. Just plugged in an 8Gb card today , and i'll get WM 6.1 as soon as the official one is there, and then i'll keep running this until 2010 or till it dies...

Amen! brother...
I am sorry if this has been asked before, and to be honest I have not searched this forum either
Anyway, my question is this:
What is your opinion to the new HTC Touch Pro, is it worth the upgrade?
I read that it has 288 MB of RAM!
But I did hovever not find any information about if it has the proper drivers installed or not.
So please give me your opinios, should I upgrade or not?
Whats good about it and whats not so good compared to tytn II?
Thanks in advance!
Please comment!
Please everyone, I would very much welcome some comments and opinions on this, not just voting!
I would like to know why you are voting yes or no!
The reason I am asking this is becouse I am considering selling my tytn II to be able to by the Touch pro!
But I really need your opinions so I dont make a huge misstake here!
Thanks!
I would get one if it wasnt for the price!
has a VGA screen... slightly better camera... slightly better Processor... generally, not that much better, but slightly
One major downside of the diamond series is the glossy exterior. Fingersprints all over the thing. My Kaiser doesnt have that at all. So it has more RAM, but do you really use the current Kaisers amount? No way, i always have more then enough free. It's a slight upgrade compared to Kaiser, but is it worth the wait and/or money.
I think i will not stay with HTC anymore.... maybe get a SE X1
From what I have seen it does look like a good phone but TBH we will have to wait and see. I would say yes get it, but wait a little while to see what others think of it
If it has the same driver 'issues' as the TyTn II then i'd say no!
I say go for it.
1) Touch Pro is essentially the HTC Diamond with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard
2) Most of the HTC Diamond applications can be found on this or other forums
1+2 = not really worth the upgrade, if you are happy with the TYTN 2 processor
Don't know about the drivers, & i would hate to be cheated again....
Ok, these are very good arguments so I think I will wait for a while to see if it has the driver or not!
I was hoping that it was official already, and that people knew about the driver!
Anyway, does anyone know if it has tv-out or not? It is somewhat important for me to have that!

There wont be driver issues..it will come with built-in hardware acceleration via an ATi chip like the X1. The tytn II has no hardware acceleration what so ever, plus the missing drivers.
Now as to which to get X1 or Touch Pro is a tough choice.
I am for sure upgrading to the Touch Pro or X1 when they come out in September for the US versions.
Pros:
Lets face it: VGA screen(sharp crisp images/text/video), another 128Mhz faster, another 160mb system ram, true 3d hardware acceleration via Ati chipset, touchscreen 3D, 5 row keyboard, a flush screen, camera flash.
How can you say no to that?

RDS= TMC for GPS?
Sense it has RDS radio, is it possible that it will recieve TMC signals for navigation?

Like somebody said alrdy, the touch pro is just the htc diamond with a slide out keyboard...i personally dont think the diamond is as good at certain tasks like the kaiser is, like possible business/exchange email. On the multimedia standpoint all the kaiser needs is for the drivers to be released for full potential of video playback for the camera video recording and some other applications to be used to full potential but other then that, viewng of avi's(dvds) and youtube seem crystal clear or as good as a 2.8" screen can get. Both will have similar ati graphics cards or qualcomm chipsets, the pro supposedly will have hardware acceleration but will see(some specs are rumos dont belive everthing you read). Also the Kaier is 400mhz i mean that is pretty fast for a phone, try to remember that ad for the pro to have another 100mhz of course it will be faster but how much of a diference will that feel like when ur using the phone. Same Qualcomm processor but probably the MS7500... so im guessing, as for the extra 128megs of ram...i barely use 20-30 megs of a total of 125 on the kaiser, with my 4g micro sd card, i dont put any apps on the phone period so i dont think extra ram in a phone is that great of an eye turner. The main plus i see with the diamond pro is the VGA and tv out tuner, two things the kaiser doesnt have but its a matter of opinion if ur gonna be watching tv on a 2.8" phone...avi's are my limit and thats during spare time at work and same with youtube. I dunno...i say if the drivers for the kaiser come out by the time the pro comes out, an upgrade would have to be seriously convincing because with the video drivers, the kaiser will feel like a brand new phone again. I had no actual issues with the video playback and didnt see what all the hoopla was about with the lawsuit action and thread upon thread about the drivers until i went to a Barrack Obama rally and tried recording a video of his speech and noticed my recording looked like i was in the matrix going slomo dodging bullets like neo basically my video recording playback was like i had a nokia instead of the flagship Tilt, I then realized my old hermes used to record crystal clear on a 2 megapixel camera but now my kaiser felt handicaped in the camera department. Thats my two cents on my Kaiser, so if the pro has these playback issues, an upgrade will be a waste of money because both phones seem similar and HTC better improve on their customer awareness before they keep coming out with high end phones. I see very few advatages in the pro for me to drop another 400 plus broohaha's on it or even have to extend my contract for a milion years to upgrade to it.
How is Touch Pro and HTC Diamond the same phone?

Ok first of all the Touch pro is going to have a 528 MHz processor which I think is a huge difference from the 400 MHz we have now!
Second it has alot more RAM, 288 MB! I think this device will be lightning fast!
I dont see how you can say that HTC Diamond and HTC Touch Pro is almost the same phone? If you check out the specs you will clearly see a difference!
HTC Diamond Specs:
http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=46286
HTC Touch Pro Specs:
http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=49524
Also Diamond does NOT have tv-out what I can see! It lacks memory card slot and has built in 4 GB instead!
The only problem I can think of is if it indeed lacks proper drivers!
If this is not the issue anymore, then I will certainly go and buy it!
I would also like to know it it is possible to recieve TMC information now when it is equiped with an RDS Radio?
im not saying its a similar phone i just think that the upgrade in speed and ram isnt going to thrill a whole lot of kaiser people in shelling out the dough and extending contracts when the kaiser is a very efficient and solid phone bro....just that the second those drivers get droped it will be like ownning a brand new phone, that diamond is going to hit the back burner and be purchased by people who just wanna have the latest and greatest. The kaiser has alrdy been upgraded too by hermes, wizard, mda, treo and other older htc phone people because of its flagship credentials and solid specifications (built in GPS being one of them) for all us kaiser people to upgrade now to the next latest and greatest will take alot, just my opinion. And if this pro's video playback issues are the same why would anybody upgrade. I really think the only people upgrading to it if the kaisers drivers come out are people just wanting to say they have the newest htc phone. Also Branko for the pro to not have a memory card slot and only be able to store 4 gigs is deffinetly a turn off....i have a 4 gig in my kaser right now and i usually have a minimum of 3 to 4 900 meg avi movies in my tilt at a time with another 4-5 album mp3's and not including my word and pdf documents for school, so i like the fact that i can swap out my 4gig and put my other 2 gig micro sd card in when i need to. I mean the Kaiser is expandable to 32gigs...doesnt that option make the kaiser the flagship phone that it is? i dunno but the pro doesnt tickle my pimple but i guess it does yours!

I do get your point, but the fact is that the HTC Touch Pro does have an sd card slot just like the Tytn II! It´s the Diamond that has the 4 GB Built in and no sd card slot!
So you can say that HTC Touch pro is everything that Tytn II is now and much more
However I do agree with you that if it does not have the drivers in place it wont really matter!
Can someone please verify?
Can someone please verify that the HTC Touch Pro wont have the same driver issue that Tytn II has?
Please this is of great importance for me to decide if I will buy it or not!
Thanks!
I haven't seen a thread on this yet as the news was just released so I need to figure this out.

and here: http://www.geardiary.com/2008/07/01/att-roadmap-for-2008-blackjack-3-wi-fi-blackberry-curve/
From the article:
AT&T Tilt 2 due Q4 - Specs below:
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition
Tri-band HSDPA (3.6); Quad-band EDGE
Qualcomm 528 MHz processor
256MB ROM/ 128MB RAM
3.0 MP camera
WiFi; Bluetooth 2.0
PTT; AGPS
VSC (at launch)
Also good news from the article:
AT&T Tilt 6.1 upgrade due in July
So my question that I'm trying to get figured out is whether or not this "Tilt 2" is the Touch Pro/Raphel? Tilt 2 would indicate that the screen can tilt (common sense draws that conclusion anyway) like the current Kaiser can. All evidence of the Touch Pro indicates that it does not tilt. This "Tilt 2" also lists a 3.0mp camera while Touch Pro is a 3.2. Also, this article lists 256 ROM / 128 RAM and all evidence I've read on the Touch Pro/Raphel has said it will have 512 ROM / 228 RAM. I am going to be pissed if the GSM version of this phone only has 128 RAM. Thats what our phones have now! Plus it's going to have to run touchflo3d!? Give me a break.
Please give me some insight into what you guys think.

Touch Pro confirmed for ATT?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410945
idk but it would sure be nice if we could break out phones and get it replaced with the Tilt II. or atleast get some sort of cheap discount on it by already owning the Tilt.

Check the specs they don't match up
I'll repeat and stick with what I mentioned on the ATT forums:
...and then again they said the upgrade for the 8525 was anticipated to be the same time leaked info was brought out and to our suprise, it wasn't even close. Who knows about the upgrade for to WM6.1, but i'm really looking forward as to seeing which device ATT picks up: the SE X1 or the Raphael. I'd personally like to see the X1 with it's slicky design and nice SE features. The Raphael looks great but i'm hearing a lot of problems with the TouchFlo3d on the Diamond (the Raphael will only be better than the Diamond in a few aspects like the keyboard). When i saw videos of the X1 on Youtube, their technology looks crisp and amazing, but then again we could see otherwise.

Yea i'm aware of that. The X1 still has some nice advantages over the Raphael such as the 3 inch screen.
HTC build the X1 for Sony Ericsson (not Sony) - they didn't design it or write the software. Just saying.
Aside from that, it's pretty obvious that "Tilt 2" is the Touch Pro. "Tilt 2" is the natural working title for the product which is, internally, the direct replacement of the Tilt. It won't be called that when it hits the shelves, for the simple reason that try as they might, AT&T won't be able to make Raphael tilt. They'll just have to come up with another catchy consumer name for it (like, erm, "Touch Pro").
im not gonna ever consider buying the phone until someone tests quake 3 on it. then test for a touch screen bug, then test some emulators, and finally test the video performance.
You and those games lol
Based on those specs, I can't see a Tilt2 being a Touch Pro. If those specs are correct, a Tilt2 wouldn't hardly be worth the upgrade. Only a faster processor? Damn... my battery doesn't last that long as it is. I can only imagine what kind of battery life (or lack there of) a Tilt2 would have.

HERE HERE, WELL SAID
Watch it be the same phone with an upgraded cpu and the front camera and still no driver.

What makes it so obvious? As stated before, based on these hardware sheets the only improvement is a faster processor. If you compare the Kaiser to a Touch Pro (not this "Tilt 2") there are much more improvements than simply a faster processor. The Touch Pro doubles the RAM and ROM, it has a 3.2MP camera rather than a 3, and I know this one is not listed but it also has a VGA screen. If I was writing up the specs for the "Tilt 2" you better believe I would have included the fact that it has a freaking VGA screen rather than QVGA.
Right
So we're saying that HTC have developed a barely upgraded version of the Tilt especially for AT&T, that's really sucky and a year behind the competition, while the rest of the world and every other network gets the Touch Pro?
Yep, that's more believable than a couple of misprints in an internal document.
Regardless...
I know for a fact that the Sony Xperia is coming to AT&T
That's the device to have. Same RAM/ROM as the Touch Pro. More storage on the device in fact.
Better screen. Could care less about the touchflo 3D and a 10 hours of talk time. Count me in.
What you fail to realize is that with the smaller nanometer chips the battery's are able to last longer then the current devices that we have. Yes it's a faster chip and it's also has far less power consumption as the 7200 chipset.

Is this based on what you think or some inside connections 8)?

Just based on common knowledge. 65nm tech consumes less power. The X1 whitepaper says it will last 10 hours on GSM and 6.5 hours on UMTS (talk time).

Dont tell anyone about the X-1 comming to AT&T my tech department at AT&T is supposed to keep that a secret, your going to get all of us in trouble
