OK, to the problem !

what can i do about that? i've closed all the programs...
Which ROM are you running? We can't help if we don't know that.
i got 1.93 wwe rom, running tf3d and have 70%. If not running tf3d - 60%.

Install a task manager like dotfred's and check for running processes to see what is causing this behaviour.
and i thought my 44% was bad
Guys, what modifications do you suggest to lower the % of RAM? My Diamond has 1.37.401.3 WWE Rom version, apart of upgrading the Rom, is there any other solution? Thanks in advance...
i have samo rom how much ram usage you have?
i have 70%
Just so you know, you can save 10mb of memory by turning off the phone skin, i personally prefer it turned off and its by far worth the memory savings.
I used advance config to turn it off but im sure most of the tweak programs will have the option built within them.
thx i will try but i need to update rom. i need to backup this rom but how??
and when i update rom will i lose my igo8??
Currently 64% (after soft reset), but sometimes close to 80%, even if all apps are closed...some hints on managing or lowering the % of Ram would be very useful...with Fdcsoft task manager one can see, that the largest process running is cprog.exe (9464kb), device.exe (3832kb) and gwes.exe (3589kb), others are particulary smaller...guys, is there any other way to shrink the %?
Edit: will try that phone skin option...thanks
Im using the SWIFTBL 5.0 rom, my memory as we speak is 48%
Ive applied quite a few reg tweaks though
Guess i will have to do the rom upgrade in the near future...
With disposable config apps, and phone skin off, i managed to lower the RAM to approx 55%...starting to like it now
I use Memmaid and SKtools to free up Ram if needed.....try it
Keeping things well under 60% now...thanks guys
Hi,
My Diamond RAM usage is normally if i just did a soft reset 53%> and if i used it and turn off the screen 60% or higher...
Is this normal because i see movies on youtube where some guy has 32% usage of the RAM...
If anyone is going to recommend me to get rid of the default ROM and get myself another one, i need one that is very clos tot the stock its ROM and i'd like to have it Dutch...
i'm using the diamond from telus mobility, my ram usage on boot hovers @ 30%... with multiple programs running, itll be like 40-43%
I saw that video too I can't believe it's so low, even with the fastest cleanest rom at best it would be ~45%. I wonder if it has anything to do with CDMA vs. GSM?

Are you sure he use a diamond ? and not a touch pro ? I think the pro have more RAM, I'm wrong ?
im running right now @ 35%... how is that so impossible? lol do u guys not believe me?
Mine is more about 70%...
mine is always about 60%...when I launch a program it's about 80%
Are you using touchflow3d MightyMike? That takes a lot!
I'm running latest official ROM and the usage hardly goes over 70% ever.
At startup its ranges from 49~53%. (including gsen and some battery meter in the startup)
It seems OK to me^^.
I'd be more concerned about the RAM storage space, which is a serious issue to me!
cheers
mine @ boot = 53 and then creeps up slowly, and also creeps up after using apps (still memory leaks? )
Thats strange im using the latest stock-ROM too, well i hope htc will bring a new update and takes the RAM usage down because hovering @ 60% or higher is just too much if you want to run a program..

Using TF3D?
My ram usage is about 53% on boot with tf3d and s2u2 running.
Try to disable phone dialer skin...ram usage is 45% at startup!!!!
Just tried without the dialer : 62% at boot with T3FD. In fact i was about at 70% with the dialer...
But i don't see how to reach 45% !!!!!!! seems impossible to me ! perhaps desactivating the 3G ?
Ciao
Fred
46% at boot with smartblock running at startup. touchFlo 3d is running too. Panosha ROM. Not bad
Yes guys, i am running TF3D... put it this way i have a lot of tweaks, BUT
i've hardresetted many times, and at STOCK rom base apps, no tweaks, i boot @ 30% memory usage right now i'm @ 37% with palringo, and msn running
someone give me a small program to take screenshots, and i'll take one for you guys!
This is my memory usage upon soft reset
---------------------------------------
I possibly think its a difference in ram between the gsm vs cdma model... sorry guys!

Mine is at 65% after boot and after a couple of min it goes to 70%+ And using the radio i get 80%
My phone usually runs at 70% memory usage and when I turn the Wifi on it jumps to 85-90%, half the time when I'm using Opera with the Wifi it shuts down because it says too much stuff is open. I'm using the Swift WWE 7 ROM. Anyone know what's wrong?

Mine (standard UK "minimal" Orange ROM) with Contacts/Activesync/Pocket Informant/Outlook running shows 72%, which stays at 72% when I connect Wi-Fi.
IE adds 1%, Opera adds 3%.

That's weird I'd think WiFi would use at least SOME resources
I'm using swtos ROM and I'm running 50'ish normally. Before the ROM switch my phone used to run at 60ish sometimes, even 70 something - it would simply choke at those percentages - specially when I was surfing the net. Multi-tasking was nearly impossible. Thanks HTC.
It was almost not usable when wifi was turned on. Now I can surf and multitask easily with the new ROM.
I just switched Wifi on now and I'm running at 59%.

Can you link me to that ROM, I might try it out. I'm using Swift which I thought was supposed to be one of the "best" but apparently not, unless I did something else that's messing it up

I've just reproduced those results - Wi-Fi isn't using any extra resources here.
I was running at 79% with ActiveSync, Album, Contacts, SMS/MMS, Notes, Tasks and Calendar
I had also previously opened up the Programs and System tabs (which even after closing bumps up the %).
When turning on the Wifi it only added 1%.
Might be worth switching ROM ?
Don't think it's the ROM. I am running SwiftBL 7.0 as well and turning on Wifi makes very little difference to resources
What pagepool settings are you using? Swiftblades ROMs come in 16mb and 0 mb (=dynamic) pagepool flavors. A higher mem usage is normal with these pagepools and unless your device actually feels slow it's nothing to worry about.
I'm using Duttys 2.8 CVSD presently. After 2 days without softreset it's at 72%, with internet sharing on. Device still feels snappy.
Whan using Wifi, do you also use Opera? It can be a memory hog sometimes. Since there are so many different builds, I'd look into if another build has better memory management.
Its not just ROM problem. my Raphael was having some troubles like that to.
( i sold mine, i dislike this device).
Seems, WIFI hard conf have a lot of QOS and package filters loaded ( look at driver rgu).
Some programs you use with streams, do the device almost unusable.
I get out almost all package filters from wifi and this stopped ( well, almost).
Just sharing acknowledgement, besides i dont have any more the device.
Here are some ROMS from Swtos. I used the second ROM in that list. As for Wifi and resources, I actually realized that mine does not use anything- unlike what I said in the previous post.

I'm not sure what my pagepool settings are, how do I check? And yes I do use Opera.
Is there any software that can backup every single thing on your phone (settings / contacts / contact pictures / etc) so when you update ROMs you don't have to do everything over again?
How to measure mem usage
Hi,
How do I measure memory usage. When I add up the memory usage in task manager I get 40mb, but the htc website says the diamond has 192mb memory -- am i really only using this much?

i use 6.5 rom but i think its drain more battery
dosent metter which radio and which rom i use.
any help?
riiiigggghhhhhhtttt
Short vid showing a few visual differences here:

Basically I guess the idea was to make it more finger friendly, and less stylus dependant, like other touch devices. So bigger areas to touch onscreen etc.
Also there are plenty of core pieces of software like IE6 upgraded in 6.5. It opens up more virtual memory to be used by apps etc.
At the end of the day, there are only so many tweaks that can be done in software to increase battery life. The best thing to do in my opinion is just to buy a higher rated battery for longer device usage before needing a recharge.
well i just bought the new 2700 battery from ebay it will take 2 weeks till it comes
second i have tryed alot of cab files that fix battery and disable 3g and etc. well its save but when i talk more than 30 min its goes 40% down dont know why
and when i recharge it sometiems its take 40 min to br full sometimes 2 hours too.
strange thing
Hey everyone.
I just got my 4x HD and i was wondering why i always have around 70% ram used on idle.
I checked in task manager and there was for around 200mb of services and apps running max, can't find where the other 400mb went.
Anyone knows if this is normal? How much ram does your phone use on average?
I agree with 700mb ram already used. But doesnt lag the phone though.
AW: Ram usage
its better when more ram is used. all the apps u used are stored in ram for quicker app start when run the app again. in other words: phone is faster when more ram is used. only if u hit the 1gb limit the phone would lag

thats true, but i too have ram problem in my o4x,
it starts lagging and freezing after some time if memory is not cleared by any task manager. and at extreme it restarts the phone.
i haven't installed that much apps yet, i installed more apps in my HTC Explorer and that phone never did things like this but this phone has double ram and still doing strange things.
and i installed swapper to solve the problem but now i'm stuck on boot logo, any help appreciated.
and any help on my bricked phone is also appreciated at my post here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192894
still, my phone uses 800Megs of RAM and constant lag.

but.. but.. but how will the games work smooth if there's only 100megs ram free?
I understand that system/UI works faster when everything is loaded in ram... but i don't like apps in background sucking my battery. I've seen this clearly in Battery Monitor. When ram is clear it uses about 25mW (on idle), with stuff in background it's closer to 100mW or more... I don't like my phone eating battery 4 times faster on idle that it should.

Again, this isn't Windows, it's Android. Free RAM is wasted RAM. If it has only 100Mb free and you launch a heavy game, it'll promptly free the needed RAM by offloading the least used stuff it still has on RAM.
On the other hand, if you call that program you only use once a day, it's probably still in your RAM, and will open as if you've only just used it (well, almost).
The used RAM isn't necessarily active, so not all the apps stored there are sucking battery. Your test results are accurate, but your conclusions are fallacious: yes, there's less battery usage when the RAM is clearest, but, as they say, "you've thrown out the baby with the bathwater", i.e. when unloading ALL apps, you also unloaded the ones that were consuming battery. On the other hand, you've also thrown out stuff that were just kept in memory, but weren't active.
The other problem with your approach is that, after you unload ALL apps, the most troublesome ones will probably reload themselves back into RAM. So, even if right after freeing RAM you reduce your battery usage, a few minutes later it will be back to the same.
What you should do is get a program like BetterBateryStats and find out what's actually sucking your battery. When it does, you have a few alternatives:
- uninstall apps that are sucking your battery but you just don't need;
- greenify some of the apps that you do need, just not all the time;
- freeze some apps (with Titanium Backup) that you don't use but can't uninstall.
i tend to disagree with people saying free ram is wasted ram and preloading apps in ram is good and that for this simple reason.
everytime you start a app that is not preloaded (it can only preload so many apps) it has to use cpu time to unload it then load the next app resulting in extra cpu usage = less battery time.
many people complain about battery life except me.
and i really manage my phones resources all day long and have nsane results noone else seems to get.
i have over 5 hours 30 min screen on time (me browsing watching youtube using whatsapp and so on.) and have over 630 mb ram free.
my total stanby time on lght use is 5 days with 2 hours 30 min screen on time.
i would send screenshots as proof but for some reason the lg 4x hd bluetooth wont install on windows 7 x64.
but really since i starte to actively manage my phone the battery lasts longer and i never had a stutter or anything.
and as a sidenote my phone is stil unrooted and stock v10h so with root i could prevent even mre from starting up and have even more free ram and better results.
and yes the poster above me is right some apps will reload themselves so IF you use a task killed prevent it from killing tasks that start themselves up again.
like google partner setup , media and more google stuff.
