1) He says it is unlocked, does that mean my FIDO (canadian carrier) sim card will work with it?
2) I've heard problems that people can't send SMS? Is SMS like Text messaging..? Will I be able to text message people like I would if I were to use any other phone?
3) If I wanted to use wi-fi, and surf the internet with it, would it cost data for me through fido, or will wi-fi be used in place at the moment for the default connection?
4) Will FIDO do anything to me if I used this unlocked Xperia instead of their phone (my motorola KRZR)? Like could they be able to detect what phone I am using and consequence me for it?
5) Where is the front camera?
6) Does the stylus easily fall out? or eventually become easy to fall out, like on the nintendo DS?
7) Since I'm buying it from a stranger, is there any extra things i need to do before I can use it as mine, or can I use it personally right away? In other words.. is there anything I need to know before buying it from him?
Thank you so much.. to anyone who answers any of these questions!! Id appreciate it a lot!

1) All Xperias work with all SIM Card Carriers; Xperia X1a has 3G capabilities for ATT (only); Xperia X1i has 3G Capabilities for all other foreign carriers
2) SMS is exactly text messaging. You won't have the problem.
3) Your carrier will not charge you for using wi-fi and accessing other networks.
4) Your phone won't be detected, and they won't do anything to you even if you showed them. They just wont offer product support or tips.
5) Front Camera is on the right of the ear speaker.
6) The stylus stays in perfectly.
7) I don't know. If you are worried about replicas and fakes, no worries, that is too obvious too spot.
Edit: Just make sure you really like the phone and actually know what the heck you are getting... I really like mine but when I bought this phone I originally thought it had a mouse cursor software for the optical pad. Boy was I wrong!

My favourite thing in this life is answering questions !!!
1 - Yes
2 - SMS = Text messaging. Yes.
3 - You can set it up any way you want. It can use free connections or data plan connections. It is up to you.
4 - I don't know. I have never heard of FIDO before .
5 - On the top right side of the device. Just above the Sony Ericsson sign.
6 - Nope. It fits perfectly and has never fallen off for the past 7 or 8 months.
7 - I don't understand the question, but you can make a Hard Reset of the device. That will return it to the factory setup/settings and delete all information that the previous owner might have had on it.
Feel free to ask anything else .

Make sure you buy the Canada version: X1a
You need this to access 3G Internet when you decided to get a data plan on Fido
To verify the Xperia you need to open the battery cover and look if the device says X1a or X1i
Wow thank you both so much!
If I have anymore questions (hopefully wont) ill post more and so glad seeing people helping

Huh? He says it is X1i version though..
is there a difference? Will my fido still work with X1i?
Edit: Nvm. Oh i see.. I am not planning on getting a data plan or use 3g anytime, so no problem ! will i still be able to do everything else normally?

Well do you want 3G internet? Yes or no?
I researched about the Fido network and it says the frequencies are GSM 1900 and GSM 850.
Xperia X1i receives the 2G frequencies 1900 and 850.
Xperia X1a receives both the 2G and 3G frequencies 1900 and 850.
Therefore when you decide to get 3G internet on your phone, than make sure you are getting the X1a.

You will still be able to use every other function except for 3G. You may or may not be able to use MMS messaging (which is advanced text messaging with pictures and videos support). This depends on whether your carrier includes MMS with 3G or with SMS (as far as I know). I guess if your carrier includes MMS with a 3G plan you can't use MMS and if your carrier includes MMS with an SMS plan you can use MMS.
Are you trading or buying? How much are you paying?

I bought the X1a so I can use 3G internet in the future. But I learned that by the time I can afford 3G internet I would probably buy a newer phone release on 2010. If I would have bought the X1i I would have saved 400 dollars.
I don't find data connections useful. Too much cash for something I could get for free. I have wi-fi at home, at work and there are plenty of coffee shops, bars, parks and what not that have wi-fi.

I am paying $490 canadian (which is $420 USD).
He said he has used it for 3 months, but cared for it like a baby, and its condition is perfect with the exception of a hairline scratch on the back.
He is including everything though, he didn't mention the earphones which i am currently asking, but i think it does include it.
Is this a good deal?
How much gb was the microSD that came with the phone?
since the guys answered ur question .
i have an advice , check under the battery if it says made in china then dont take it.
plus check for cracks as ALOT of Xperias has a small crack at the right side in the middel of the chrome cover.
when u get ur fone dont use any other chargers but the Xperias, it kills the battery.
if its the black xperia take care of the back cover.
if u heared about the keyboard problem, its only dust i cleaned mine & its working 100%
edite: i cnt remember but i think its only 1GB , they gave me a free 8GB wlth it
Goodluck hope u like it

Don't worry about the hairline scratch. The battery cover is known to scratch easy but really who gives a crap. We know that in the future we will get new phones. Don't armor your device. Buying exterior cases is not worth the frustration of bulking your pants. Besides, the Xperia feels less grand and uncomfortable with the snap-on cases.
So take my advise and cherish the X1 but don't spoil with the casing because it will ruin your Xperiance and comfort of life.
I have like 5 hairline scratches on the back and I always keep my phone isolated and lonely in my pocket.
I think the deal is okay. But you can get a brand new X1i from 500 I think so please just buy it brand new for 500 and free shipping on ebay.
I didn't get a microSD with my phone.

Thanks for the input and advices!
Hmm these ebay prices are great but when they translate to canadian dollars they are $580 CAD Also, I tend to make small purchases on ebay through paypal and don't have too much money on paypal (dont have credit, use debit which takes forever to transfer).
Thank you so much for the suggestions though. ill be looking around the stores that have these but i doubt they'll be any cheaper than $600
How good condition would you say your experia is after 3 months?

I have had mine for 7 and a half months and have no cracks, no chipped chrome or D-Pad. Only some scratches near the USB, but that is my fault haha. I don't have a scratched back cover. Interestingly I have never used a case or any protection except the screen protector that I bought recently .
MMS works just fine with EDGE connection. I had Nokia running EDGE and was able to MMS.
If Fido used UMTS 850/1900 band then you'll get the 3G speed on your X1i since it does support tri-band HSDPA 900/1900/2100 (but you'll probably get less 3G coverage in the rural/suburb area).
I would say buy an Touch pro 2 ... way better then xperia in every way.. no cracks and other stuff.. altho touch pro 2 is pretty big.

Should I return the TILT???
I was depending on this being an mp3 player/video player/phone/fun/office device. ALL IN ONE being key!!
This device has dissapointed me on the multimedia end for obvious reasons as I can't even drag and drop SD DIVX Shows!!
Is there a device that can do all this that I should get instead since I'm in my 30 days???? What would you do?
Thanks for any advice....

I am also in the same boat. I was expecting more from it when it came to playing movies and just overall performance. Don't know if I should return it to newegg and void the att contract. Or if it would be better to keep the contract, sell the phone on ebay, and use that money to buy a different phone.
return them
I would return them, and buy Iphones.
Iphones have by far the best web browsing available short of having a pc, which is what I was hoping for out of my tilt. Now that i know my web browsing issues are because htc didnt provide drivers, i feel like im missing a huge part of what this phone should have been and it is very disappointing.
Take It Back
return it...
RETURN IT
why? well the more HTC get returned etc the quicker they will pull their finger out and correct things and not allow such stupid mistakes
Just make damn sure that when you return it; you tell them WHY.
Hmm... The new 8gb Nokia N95 has just come out... Looks rather nice too...
All of you whom own a Tilt / Tytn II, T-mobile or other clone distributed by carriers should return this piece of ****ty hardware when not satisfied with the video performance.
Indeed, AT&T certainly would not have counted on such a return (and loss ) and will raise this towards HTC as loss of business.
Just return the ****ty thing and buy something that does what it's supposed to do.
And, for your own good, never buy anything coming from HTC. They're crooks, hypocrites and arrogant bastards who think that their customers are of a low enough IQ to be mocked in their face and still want to feed HTC money (this is exactly what comes out from their official response to the driver issue).

Yup. I bought my tilt last week so I still have two weeks to decide. I would return it today if i could figure out a replacement that does everything the Tilt does but better. I would personally rather have the Tilt than an Iphone even with the problems, and that nokia isn't doing it for me.
If you don't mind losing the internal GPS and the extra ram you could downgrade to the 8525 (Hermes). Nice thing is that there price has dropped considerably since the Tilt came out. For awhile there AT&T was selling them for $99...so you could probably find another site out there somewhere that would give it to you even better than this.
I'll trade someone my 8525 for their Kaiser
ha, I can't believe what im reading here! are u guys really that bitter. I honestly feel that even when (if) htc releases the fix, MOST of us will not notice a big difference in our daily use. I compare it to a bluetooth keyboard I purchased. before I bought it, I was going crazy, thinking I needed one, etc. once I got it, I don't think I've ever used it.
don't get me wrong, I would love the drivers, but other than that I love my phone. great internet, great gps, full keyboard, etc. there is honestly no other phone id rather have.
My Warranty ends tomorrow. I think im just going to keep the damn thing. Sure the video converting sucks. but, I got the Camera to work (thanks to Navadi), and I havnt watched a movie on my mobile in awhile. At least the reception is flawless. I have better reception than most of my friends and family. with the same provider, AT&T.
In my house NO ONE gets reception. and I can have a full conversation inside my house perfectly.
My brother who owns the Iphone. He has to walk outside in order to talk on his phone.
Oh and yeah the full keyboard is much better than the Iphone at Texting.
Oh and dont get me wrong I am disappointed with HTC with the way they are handling this situation. Atleast be helpful, rather than leaving us with a "F**k you, we got your money, you got what you paid for." what they did was false advertise.
The problem is, in the U.S. The phone is still better than majority of all the other phones out there. OBviously not in Europe. but here. Yeah.
I've had both the iPhone (Returned it) and now I have the TILT...i prefer the tilt.
I know the video situation sucks but I think the phone is still good overall
The money I was going to spend on the Tilt went to my beautiful new 22 inch LG Monitor (W2252TQ - 270 at Best Buy - best monitor out there.)
So I looked up some news on it the other day, since buying the phone is in my sights again, and I saw that all kinds of things have come out for it. So what do I have to know? What about the battery? Any new killer aps? Slingbox good with it? What about a wireless hard drive I have, think I could get my Tilt to access it? What about my wireless printer, hahaha ok that one won't happen.
And wireless internet is 20 dollars a month? Is it worth it? Can i get it cheaper somehow?

things like that ..
not so much ...

I'd like to know where you guys get $15 and $20 Internet plans?
As far as I know, here in Chicago you have 2 choices:
$30 unlimited data
$50 unlimited data with tethering (or maybe it's $40).
I see in your sig you have AT&T too... do prices differ that much state to state?

You put your sim card in a non pda phone. Call AT&T, tell them you sold the tilt and sign up for the unlimited MediaNet @ 15.00. Put your sim back in the tilt.
your done.
look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388367
See here for a word of caution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=391980
the prices are not different from state to state; its just that some people are getting data plans theyre not supposed to be getting. those $15 and $20 plans are for non-smartphone's (ie, those crappy flip samsungs, etc). many ppl use these plans on the tilt and other smart phones with no probs, but rumor has it that at&t does check and will charge you per kb of data that u used....its a risk, up to you if u wanna take it
The person referring to the $15 plan is on a Media Net unlimited plan.
That plan is meant for customers who have REGULAR phones such as the LG Shine or something.
The PDA Plans are $30 for unlimited.
There have been things all around the net that if at&t switches your plan back to what it was supposed to be, you get a rediculously high bill. But they may just be rumors.
Nonetheless it's kind of stealing b/c you're paying for the wrong plan.
The reason they charge more money for PDA data plans is because PDA's are MUCH more data intensive.
Anyway, my brother owns a couple Cell phone stores, and I've worked there for 5 years, so I know what I'm talking about.
The only way for you to have that $15 plan still is if
a) you got it more than a few months ago.
b) the person you bought your phone from stuck the IMEI of a regular phone onto your account as oppossed to your true PDA's IMEI. Doing that would cause the data plans that come up on the feature page during activation to be the $15 media net unlimited plan.
They changed their system so that the IMEI used for activation is what the features shown are based off of for the dealer's activation system.
c) do what the above poster mentioned by sticking your sim in a different phone claiming you are using that one now instead of your PDA.

Newegg's best reviewed LCD monitor has major defective problems. And most LCD monitors have terrible glare and fake refresh rates, fake 2 m/s, and a fake contrast ratio. It's all on a forum somewhere, I can get it if you want, but LG is definitely better. Plus it's Newegg review is pretty good.

iv used the tilt for about 1 week now... im not too impressed by it...
except the GPS is awesome. i got TomTom with it.
other than that... it seems alright. not as user friendly as many of the other phones.. u have to slide the keyboard just to type something, kind of annoying.
the touch screen needs a stylus most of the times.. thats something i dont really like too. u could use your fingers or nail but still.
overall not really impressed with the WM6.1 ppc edition... i like WM6 smartphone edition better. also battery life is kinda ****ty on this phone.
its a phone for gadget lover types... overall good value for money.
LOL I've had mine since october. You don't have to slide the keyboard out all the time and my stylus hardly gets uses. I can even use the onscreen keyboard sometimes with just my finger tip. Seriously, how can you be disapointed by having to use the keyboard? Didn't you even see the phone before you bought it.

This all are just a matter of customization.
I am using resco keyboard and I can easilly type with my fingers.
Also using UltimateLaunch witch is really finger-friendlly. And there are also hardware keys - u can install quick menu, amd u can make almost everything using the keys.
As I said, its all about your customization.

overall not really impressed with the WM6.1 ppc edition... i like WM6 smartphone edition better. also battery life is kinda ****ty on this phone.
its a phone for gadget lover types... overall good value for money.

As im sitting in court, reading these posts, im just waiting for somone to say the six letter word (iphone)
1. of course the screen needs a stylus, its a resistive display, you can however adjust the threshold to make it more finger frendly.
2. it is user frendly (if you know what your doing)
3. dont base 6.1 these are cooked roms and there are a bunch to choose from, if you dont like the user friendliness the go with a no frills version.
4. i had a crapple junkphone and now that i have a tilt i cant imagine how i even got by with a poopyphone, sorry iphone
5. this phone has a slide out keyboard, were???
6. scratch #5 i was kidding, of course you have to slide out the keyborad to type, unless you know of a way to type on it without sliding it out??
Look in all seriousness the Full duplex pocket pc communication device, we call the kaiser, is a great phone, a power house i tell you, you cant really appreciate it unless you have it. and of course everybody can find something wrong with anything they own, like my brand new (well slightly used) 2007 slk 55 amg mercedes benz, a small scratch on the wheel. And by the way the benq monitor is better than the lg.
So buy the damn phone you will be happy with it.
I was very curious about it's ability to talk to an Iomega "Wireless Hard Drive" that I have. There is software that you install on the computer and it can detect the drive over Wifi. Do you think the phone can do such a thing? Same for my printer?
Anyone here use Slingbox with it? How are the new homebrew roms? Any in particular I should know about?
Is the battery life REALLY that bad?
well i like the keyboard, i just dont like sliding it.
i'd prefer the tmobile Dash , blackbeerry, moto Q, type where the keyboard is right there.
the thing with the sliding keyboard deal is, once u slide, the screen changes to landscape mode, and the resolution or something makes everything a bit unclear to read....
also another thing with this phone is, when i plug in my phone to the computer usb , the screen is always on, it doesnt turn off at all. iv changed the settings to turn off, and it doesnt.
also the keyboard mapping is a little messed up... when i select @, it gives me ! etc etc... as far as i understand this seems to be a common problem with the original dash... its amazing how HTC, and ATT released a phone with incorrect keyboard mappings.
i dont know if it is Dutty's 6.1 rom or is it affecting every ROM... these minor software issues are annoying... how could anyone not fix them before releasing them to the public. another bug i found is when u select the Missed Calls section and then u hit the End Call button, the whole screen gets messed up and u can only fix it by hard reboot.

1. (wireless hard drive) if it is bluetooth yes, you have a bluetooth explorer folder wich allows you to use it as a virtual drive. I have a old pc with a 80gig hd in it i use exclusive for this. All you need is a bluetooth dongle.
2. (slingbox) tried it on edge (sucks) if you use it on 3g (great)
3. (wifi printing) I bluetooth docs to my main pc then print. I.E. excell doc's and word doc's. Thats a good question i can pair to my wifi printer but wouldnt have a clue on how to print. I would really like to be able, but never really experemented with it. I can controll my pc from my tilt so in effect i can bluetooth docs to my main pc then my remote from my tilt print from my main pc. So i really dont have to touch my main pc. (if you catch my drift).
4. (battery life) I am a heavy user, and i mean heavy. Usually i get 2 1/2 days without having to charge.
5. (homebrew rom's) ive flashed a couple times. but im satisfied with my att stock munus bloatware rom(works good for me).
Well both the printer and the hard drive are over Wifi. Does Windows Mobile work well with Windows programs? I would just have to move the .exe's (and drivers for the printer) onto the phone, I guess. It would really save space on the SD Cards.
hi, got to send my phone back again, so have decided instead of using the crap razr i will buy a cheap used phone from ebay. one that still can be used to receive emails and other info like my x1.
i want a htc, so hear are my choices
htc touch
htc duel touch (nike)
im think the htc nike is the better of the 2.
anyone got any other phones that could be good, please remember im looking for a cheap phone (not a replacement for the x1) about £70-80.

it takes about 2-3 weeks to get the phone repaired, this is the third time in less than a year that i have sent the x1 back.
in the 2-3 weeks period i cant get emails, stocks and other needed info on the spare phone i have (think its a razr v8) what makes like hard. i want a windows mobile phone where i can backup all my pim data and restore it on the temp phone so that i keep getting the needed data.
but wanted a half decent handset.
its quiet upsetting that i cant get on with my life/work because sony does not sort out the cracking problem.
its only been about 2 weeks since i got it back and it cracked 4 days in and they just tell me to send it back for repair (another 2+ weeks)
I would pick the nike from the two you have listed. What price are you looking at?

there is a couple on ebay for about £40 with 4 hours to go, want to pay about £65 but will go to about £80 including postage
Sounds good. It is always useful to have a backup device lying around anyway, so it will be a meaningful purchase.
I'm usually using my old N95 as a backup device, but I recently got a Tytn 2 from a friend really cheap, because I have always liked it haha.

yh i noticed this what seemed a bit weird but i have unlimited data on my contract so dont really use wifi so not too bad for me.
do u this it would be able to rum wm6.5 smoothly? i know there are 6.5 roms on the nike but wondering what sort of drain it would cause to the handset?
G: I'm facing the exact same problem (sending in X1 thus losing essential things like calendar etc) and made the exact same decision: buy a backup. I wanted a phone with a fast processor so got an unlocked LG Incite for 120 USD. It's not HTC, but it has nice specs and with some tweaking is pretty sweet. It'll become a dedicated GPS when I get my X1 back.

Bro, just used the Razor. Then when your perfect upgrade comes out, buy that phone. Then use your X1 as your temporary phone. This way you don't have to use sub-par devices.

what i was think is wait till the x2 comes out and by that time i would be on my 4th or 5th (maybe even 6th) x1. then make a big fuss and see if i can get it changed for a x2. (in the end sony will have to keep replacing the x1 till they run out of parts, then they will have to give me a x2).
was considering a droid 4 or razor as my next phone..
Dont really know much about it only the glossy adverts and such
and want to know what people think of the droid 4 who already own it.
Any descent custom roms/kernels?
battery life?
does it get hot?
official updates?
is the keyboard any good?
sound quality in phone calls/ speaker phone?
screen quality?
wish you bought something else?
- For D4 we have pretty good ICS leaks, I`m on of the latest leaks, and it`s stable and very comfortable to use.
- Battery life - good enough, better than on my Droid 3 (I saw that there is a fix for WiFi to improve the battery life, so should be even better)
- Not hot for me, but I`m not using this phone for games.
- Official update of ICS (4.0.4) is planned for Q3 2012, so should be delivered to our phones in next few monthes. I hope after ICS we will get JB.
- Keyboard is terrific and awesome. I had all Droids from Motorola and keyboard for Droid 4 is the best keyboard I`ve seen before.
- sounds quality is good, from my point of view - the same as on my Droid 3, so no issues here. With the speaker phone don`t see any issues as well.
- Screen is good, sharp enough and looks like better than screen for Droid 3 (at least in comprasion). But it`s not AMOLED...
- Since I`m using keyboard smartphones for work and I really need hardware keyboard (e-mails, messages, etc.) - Droid 4 is the best choice for me. If you don`t need keyboard then I would suggest to take a look to the Motorola Razr.
Mainly agree with MrAdvo, with a little less positiveness about the screen. I came from the Droid 2 Global (now an ancient phone) and that screen was much better. This shows when scrolling fast or in some animated games (such as Drop). But it's certainly usable.
I paid full price (to keep unlimited data) and I don't currently regret my decision! Waiting for official ICS so it can be global.
I went with the D4 over the razr and I'm glad I did. I work for vzw and constantly get customers coming in who hate the battery life on the razr. I have had no customers complaining about their droid 4.
Sent from my XT894 using xda app-developers app
Any descent custom roms/kernels? - So far we're stuck with stock kernels due to the locked bootloader but if what I've seen in the dev forums is true, that will be fixable soon with kexec. Hashcode has also ported both CM9 and AOKP to the stock kernel so that should cover most people's needs. Personally I'm an AOKP fangirl, but CM9 is good too!
battery life? - I'm currently in the phase where I'm constantly tinkering with it all day even though I'm supposed to be working, and in the worst case I still had 16% left by the time I went to bed at 4AM! Currently it's 3:27AM and the battery is still at 68% I'd say that was pretty good.
does it get hot? - Not that I've noticed
official updates? - Still waiting for ICS, regular leaks, as discussed already.
is the keyboard any good? - Yes, providing you're not using it to admin linux/unix/cisco type gear as some of the more obscure punctuation such as curly brackets is not on the keyboard and has to be accessed through menus. If you're using it as a text messaging device, or for posting on social networks it's awesome, easily the nicest phone keyboard I have ever used, and this is coming from someone who has had landscape QWERTY phones since the days of the Nokia 9110
sound quality in phone calls/ speaker phone? - Seems fine to me.
screen quality? - This is the big sticking point. If you look closely at a photograph or a smooth gradient, you can see a speckly/dithering effect from the pentile screen. You have to know it's there and go looking for it, but if you're expecting the screen of a Galaxy SIII you'll be disappointed. It's still a decent screen with good brightness and contrast. Haven't tried it in direct sunlight yet though, what with me being in the UK
wish you bought something else? - Nope. Once you've decided you want a QWERTYphone, there really isn't another option right now. Thankfully this is a very good option.
One thing that's important to note, since you're in Australia, which I'm 99% certain is a GSM country, this phone will not work out of the box as the gingerbread firmware is CDMA only and locked to the Verizon network in the USA. You'll need to flash to the latest ICS leak. Idiot's guide here.
Thanx guys and girls,
Yeah I was wondering why I couldnt find this phone from aussie sellers in ebay and telco's.
So can be hacked to GSM?
Dam looked like a good phone too.
is it still a touch screen ?

The hardware is fully capable of both CDMA and GSM, however the firmware it shipped with does not have GSM support because Verizon are, well, they're as nice and helpful as Telstra!
Officially the Droid 4 will get world-phone functionality at the same time as the official ICS firmware drops, supposedly in Q3, but you can have it right now with one of the leaks.
Yes it's still a touchscreen. I only really warned you about the screen because quite a few people are moaning about it when compared to the Galaxy SIII. Personally I'm fine with the screen.

If you plan to use the phone outside the US, and are at least a little paranoid, it might be a good idea to buy the phone prior to the ICS release and install the leak.
Note: no evidence for what follows! It's at least possible that Verizon might lock the GSM portion of the phone, as they have done on their previous pre-ICS world phones. The leaks don't have a lock, and neither does the official ICS release on the RAZR, but it might seem to be a good idea at some point. Unlocking can be very hard, you need to be a VZ customer to get it from Verizon, and on some models, particularly the Droid 2 Global, Verizon changed the codes so that the web-based vendors codes (using Moto's DB) didn't work most of the time. In addition, they can make it hard to root and impossible to revert to an earlier version (Droid 2 got a root method last week, several months after the latest update). So, may not happen, but.....
Thanx all round...
if i find the right 1 at the right price ...I will be getting one I think.
I hate onscreen keyboards ...

No idea what swiftkeys is, but it does pop up a number of word suggestions at the bottom of the screen as I type.
As for price, I got a brand new one for US$500 which worked out at about UK£360 after import taxes. This was a lot cheaper than buying a similar device out of contract in the UK since most sellers do $1 = £1 to set UK prices even though the exchange rate is currently $1.50 = £1.
I don't know how Australian prices compare, or how much you get taxed for personal imports, but I'm sure you people get ripped off on electronic goods just as much as us Poms.

$500 is good! I paid $549 from Verizon (to keep unlimited data on their plans)
I also am in the same bucket as you... tired of my Thunderbolt having issues and need to stay grandfathered. Found a sweet deal on a brand new Droid 4 out of the box. I take it even as Motorola w/ a locked bootloader, we've got tethering working on this device? (w/out a plan)

Today, I had a chance to test for awhile new Nexus 4 phone. It was demo version in Carphone Warehouse.
I have been told, they selling only this phone with a contract, so I haven't asked more as we know Google is selling it with "no strings attached".
First impression was really good, nice phone, big enough but not so big, light weighted.
Screen is very responsive, considering it has still protective film on in. I had no chance to test WiFi as well as 3G connections, as this phone has no simcard. During the test once appears one white artefact on the bottom of the screen and suddenly disappear once I touched the screen.
I hope some of photos tell more than I wrote.
I would like to thank for people from Carephone Warehouse in Croydon, where I was able to test this phone.
Your test was all wrong, you are meant to come back and tell us every little fault with the phone and moan about how terrible a company Google are. Tell us to never ever get this phone and go on for 3 pages about the lack of LTE (even tho useless in UK) and micro SD card
@roughavoc why shall I moan about this? I'm considering to buy this phone, but as we know it's not available right now. Yesterday, sale was started and finished immediately. Lack of LTE? That's true - but as Three network user, I will not need LTE for year or even longer.
There's no micrSD card... but it's microSIM... how wonderfull
Seriously, there's no reason to be disappointed, besides the first impression was really good - considering the price of this device.
