ok so i already have cyanogen 3.6.5 and i want to make afew theme mods. i have the theme template and i would like to know...do i just install it (update.zip) or do i need to reinstall the rom entirely
Make your changes on the theme template, resign everything, flash the update.zip
You can revert back to stock with the plain theme template.
Yup. Just apply as update.zip =]

Where can I get the plain theme template sure I need to get rid of a theme change. Also does the plain theme template replace a black status bar and changes to the notification icons/text?

Does anyone know how to remove the stericson lockscreen from the framework so that i have the original lockscreen back. i am running on cyan 4.0.4 with compatible theme- currently melange 0963. i wanted to use xinvert or smorgwhite 4.0.4 but both have stericson's lockscreen. does anyone know how and what to change in the framework or whatever else inside the zip folder. i know how to resign the zip, just need the guidelines on what to insert and remove. i have previous versions of the smorgwhite theme and messed around with the zz files in the new version (i.e. i deleted them got boot loops, replaced them with two files from the 4.0.1 theme of smorgwhite and got boot loops, replaced the framework-res.apk from smorgwhite401 to 404 and got stuck at tmobile g1 and i even replaced the whole framework folder from smorgwhite401 to 404 and again stuck at tmobile g1 screen). id really appreciate the help. thanks
replace services.jar with the one from the theme template cyanogen provides
replace the settings.apk with the one from that same template
replace the framework-res.apk with the one from the template
remove framework.jar from the theme
replace android.policy.jar with the one from the template
with that done run this through ultra spikey's theme porter (the un-modified theme as themeold.zip and the one you pulled all of the files from as themenew.zip) then go into the framework-res.apk/res/drawable folder and remove all of the images that start "zz" they are at the bottom of the folder so they are easy to find.
Now you have the unsigned theme without the lockscreen.
Sign the theme and you are set to flash it.
i haven't tested this, but would imagine it works.

thanks for the quick response man. i'll give this a go
edit: only problem is though, where do i get the theme template since cyanogen removed all of his files after the google issue? so since i don't have the theme template, i just took the files directly from the signed 4.0.4 cyan rom. gonna test it out now

yeah it works. thanks man. got similar tips from jonnybueno and zilverzurfarn.
Here's the background:
I was on Cyan 4.2.3.1 with Little Big Planet theme. Everything was perfect. Then I updated to Cyan 4.2.4 and no theme (theme wasn't updated yet), still everything worked OK, except some of the icons - the google apps ones - didn't change back to the standard icon. It retained the Little Big Planet icon. This was the gmail, youtube, maps, market, and gtalk icons.
Then I went to Cyan 4.2.5 and applied Buuf theme. I thought all the icons would change to Buuf's icons, but the google app icons still stayed at the standard icons.
How can I get Buuf's icons for these apps back? Thanks
I find that you always want to flash the original rom before applying the update to avoid these types of issues. In other words, don't go from a theme to a base rom and then to another theme. Just like you should not go from one theme to another theme before going back to base rom.

Yeah, the only thing is the google apps come from the HTC image rather than Cyanogen's ROM.
So my advice would be to reflash the HTC image, then Cyanogens ROM then your theme of choice, and do that every time you change theme.
Since I also have the maps with navigation, will I need to run those steps too before updating the theme?
One more question, should I wipe or go straight to reflashing the HTC image and cyanogen rom?
I would wipe first and flash the rom before doing the whole htc image deal.
Hmm... wiping and flashing just the base rom didn't work. I'm going to go try to wipe, flash htc image, and then flash rom again.
NOOO YOU CAN FLASH MY THEME TEMPLATE!!
my theme template has google apps so it will replace them

I ended up wiping, flashing the. HTC image, and then flaahing cyan. After that the icons went back to standard icons. No more Little Big Planet icons. So then I applied the Buuf theme and the icons stayed the standard icons, it didn't change to the Buuf look.
I've never had problems with any theme before this.
Is there a way to manually change these icons, or will the theme template do that?

greatly aprreciated thanks
just download any theme that is for CM-4.2.11.1 and start replacing the images with the ones you want for your theme. I dont really know if Cyan is still putting out theme templates, i havent seen one in a while.

yeah i just did that...now to take out the google apps from the htc rom :/
making a little Gnome-ish theme
Make sure to post it up id like to see it =)
I have a default cm theme template I do for each rom updates. Mostly for my own themes use and to get back to stock when things break by flashing themes. It only has like open source apps though, so it doesn't come with stuff like gmail and market and youtube and such. You can always add the apk you theme of it inside the /app folder and sign it again if you want to do that.
I could upload it and post it if anyone wants.

it would un-theme every .apk that is in that .zip. I think there is a stock metamorph somewhere, you could take every image out of the folders except for the app icon image and do it that way.
oh ok...thanks man

It'll only get you back to default cyan rom if the sirmez theme didn't touch any of the google apps. Otherwise you'll see most things back to default and things like gmail/youtube/market may stay themed.
Hi there!
I was using CM7 with MattedBlues and then i tried some new themes that alredy existed in Theme Chooser app.
The point is, after applying a theme at the app i can't get MattedBlues back, even if i flash the zip fle at the recovery.
What can i do in order to get MattedBlues back?
Thank you everybody!
wipe and reflash CM7 then reflash MattedBlues.
save your apps using titanium backup (batch backup)
Have you tried just restoring the system theme in the theme manager?

Can you be a little more specific about what exactly is going wrong? Is the flash failing or are you just not getting anything themed?

The flashing is ok.
The point is: since i've changed the theme via "Theme Chooser" app, i coudn't get MattedBlues back, even if i flash it again from CWM Recovery (The Theme remains the same as chosen in Them Chooser)
I didn't want to wipe it again and flash CM7 only to change themes btw
Hi,
can someone port over the theme MattedBlues for the CM 7 Theme chooser ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768848
+1
I love this theme and wish this for my Desire
+1 on that one!
+1 I would love this as well I used to use it but ever since CM7 came out with the theme chooser I dont really flash anymore.
But we need to make sure the Dev is okay with it.
Hey everyone,
As one of the devs for MattedBlues I can tell you I'm working on it but I'm not very happy that the Theme Chooser can't theme everything a flashable zip can. What's probably going to end up happening is one of two things:
1: MB gets ported to the Theme Chooser and is missing some things
or
2: MB gets ported to the Theme Chooser and a MetaMorph will be supplied to theme what the Theme Chooser can't theme.
Until then, stay tuned.

Nice, can't wait!
Also, if you guys want to you can fairly easily port the theme to your phones. Basically you just merge the files in SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk with the files from the original CM7 ROM and you are golden!
I don't know if you are allowed to do that, but I can't seem to figure out why you wouldn't be. As long as you don't redistribute it.

Thanks for the tip! What exactly do you mean by merge? Do I just delete the to apk's from the theme zip and replace them with the ones from the CM7 zip? Or do I need some program to actually merge them?
Can't wait for this theme!!!
I would love this theme on my Nexus One!

You open the .apk from the theme (using something like WinRAR) and then you open the .apk from the ROM and simply drag the files from the themed .apk over to the ROM's .apk. Then you put the ROM's .apk (the one that you now have merged with the themed .apk) where the themed .apk was. Then simply flash the .zip.
Hope you understand, got kind of messy. If you do not, I can make it for you!
