Ive been searching through all the guides. I updated to cynogen's recovery and have the latest radio and spl from having jf 1.51 (US version i think its crb 43 or something sorry having a brain fart).
So basically i just need to put jachero on my card and update it as update.zip and install it?
Also i noticed in some of my reading about you should have ext2 and a linux swap. Do i need to reformat that card before sending over the update.zip or after i install the update?
thanks in advance for your help and answers and great job guys i hope to understand this better so i can help contribute soon! Thanks!

If I were you I would reformat your card before applying the udpade. And you don't have to but I would make a linux-swap partition. You should really tell the difference.
Awesome i got hero finally set up with 3 partitions. I followed this guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534714
and at the bottom of that he says to enable swap go to this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=531988
Is this step still needed or do the roms actually do it automatically if you had a linux-swap partition when you installed.
If it helps i am running Jachero 2.63 i believe.
JACHero 2.63 will do it automatically.
Sweet thanks everyone for your help!

I am sorry if this is the 1000th thread on the topic but I searched and couldn't find a post with my problem. I have a rooted G1 with the hspl, the cyanogen 1.31 recovery tool and I have my 8 gig card partitioned into 3 drives,7200M Fat32 500M EXt3 and a 32M linux-swap. I assume I am ready to install the JAC Hero 2.7 Rom but every time I try I get this error on the recovery screen after it has installed it for a bit. I am also wiping the G! before I install.

Please help.
There's a Dream Q&A Section for a reason. You do NOT have the latest SPL. Reflash it. Confirm it by going to bootloader (camera+power) and checking the SPL line. Should be 1.33.2005
Brick in 3...... 2...... 1......
Lol I'm sure he has the new radio if he's tried flashing the hero ROM anyway
Thanks alot. It works like a charm now.

awesome chagne thread title to solved please
just wanted to say thanks, it worked for me too
My one click CM1.4 recovery and CM4.0.2 flashes went PERFECTLY!
now that everything is setup and my phone difinatly works, how can i enable the built in APPS2SD?
How can I safley repartition w/o ABD? Gparted live or Ubuntu live?
All I wanna do is set up that last damn ext step, i want my system space back....33mb is KILLING MEEEE.......i need my apps on my SD!
any and allll help would be rad...
ive searched. but this is one of the newer methods i used and DO NOT FEEL like going 2 phones in a week (as i just bricked my other Monday..)
I think the ubuntu live cd is the easiest. It offers a graphical interface for partitioning the card which would feel more at home to a windows user than the command line parted (Which is the underpinnings of the Ubuntu Partition manager)
That being said the Gparted live CD is pretty damn good also! I think it is a smaller download too. They use essentially the same program to partition the disk and are both graphical. I prefer GParted if I am running in VMWare at work because it is faster and smaller, but it has no other GUI frills so don't plan on using it for anything except partitioning
You could also install Ubuntu with Wubi which allows dual boot on your computer w/out repartitioning your drive...that way you could back up your ext partition if you wanted to.
There is a thread somewhere in development that details partitioning in ubuntu, but it is pretty self explanatory if you have ever partitioned a disk before. If you haven't then I would read it.
Hope that helps!
thx @Diceman4!
I used this method to root my G1 and flashed the latest Cyanogen Mod with no obstacle. The only thing I concern about is that my G1 still has the stock SPL. Is there any way to update to the HardSPL and why should I ? Is it gonna make a big change to my phone ? By the way, I was about to flash the Haykuro's dangerous SPL. I check my Radio and even Flash the latest one on Haykuro's google page, but my baseband is still 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I, not 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I. Is that a big deal ?
Hope someone can tutor me the way I can update my SPL. Thanks in advance.

Hi to one and al
I hope i am allowed to post a new thread on this. I live in Ireland but have a
G1 which is from the good uld U.S.A. I did a week of reading on how to root my phone and got some great advice on this forum.
I rooted my phone last night, using the 2 part video on Youtube and i followed
every step to the letter, i think its worked because my phone still does haha, but i dont see any benefits if anything i have less.
I did the rooting of the phone and then put the U.K RC8 on to it i its the
jf 1.42 i think. Anyway, thats ok but i didnt know there was a jf cupcake 1.5 out i got the jf updater and its found the jf 1.51 cupcake UK and a jf RC9 v.1.43 UK and also an update.zip
Now i have not downloaded any of these yet, Question... Do i download and apply the proper 1.5 radio from the android site and apply that then download the 1.5 UK cupcake and apply that.
Any help would be appreciated as i dont want to **** it up now cheers

Yes update your radio. Its not a must but highly recommended otherwise you might have some issues. Also I would recommend a different rom cause JF's are to old and boring. I would suggest one of Cyanogens rom's.
thanks for reply, i dont have to downgrade the fone again do i, can you tell me which cyanogen rom i should download and do i need another compatible radio, i am a bit phased about diong this again especially after reading so many bricked fones but i do reaserch and listen so any help would be great
Jf stopped making roms so go with cyan stable 4.04
hey Gridlock hows it going.
ok forgive my ignorance i am looking for this rom and cant find it, also do i have to download a radio for that cyanogen release and apply that first,, also do i wipe the sd card before i start this
hope i havent made things more difficult,
and just one other thing when i did the root of youtube i didnt get an option to "protect my root" as i have read on some other guides.
thanks
edit found a post by nephron will have a read through that, but still need to know about the "protect my root" thing and do i wipe the sdcard?
You don't have to worry about protecting your root, nephron guide is a good way to go, you can pick up any rom and the most up to date in the dev section
I am doing good by the way

You won't have to downgrade again. You should update to the newest radio (26I) if your not already. You can do that before or after loading a new rom it doesn't matter. You can look in the dev section for cyanogen he has a stable and experimental build.
thankyou kindly gents will follow that advice
If you haven't already you need to install Cyan's recovery 1.4

Doesn't matter, flash the ROM or recovery in whatever order you want. ROMs don't require a specific, recovery. Just use the one you want to use, 1.4 has the most features.

thanks for that
right i am ok with that, now i know to flash the radio first do i also have to flash this spl i downloaded its called danger spl (dont like the fookin sound of that!!) this nephron guide is very confusing
sorry lads but this is not happening i put the rom onto sd card home and power and its just coming up with a load of mad writing and like a fingerprint gives me the options but when i choose to install it say it cant install as it cant find the rom on sd card, says directory doesnt exist
i am getting to the stage of unrooting here as i dont want to fcuk my fone up
anyone help, and that nephron guide is just too confusing
As long as you don't plan on flashing any hero roms then you don't need dangerSPL. I don't recommend doing the hero roms or dangerSPL until you have a very good understanding of the cupcake/donut roms first.
sorry i have it, i had the file extensions hidden on my new laptop so the re naming was incorrect, sorted now thanks

HAI
I was noob too like you.
I know good ROM.
Try SuperBad. Latest of course.
I've always been a fan of CyanogenMod
i have tried others ROM's but i keep going back to CM
CM5.0.7-DS
read the instructions
download the files
read the instructions AGAIN
then flash
i made a mistake the 1st time i flashed it because i did not reboot after the SPL update...... phone just sat there at the G1 screen for 20 minutes before i rebooted it.... sometimes they take a while to boot the 1st time after flashing but not 20 min
went form CM4.2 to CM5.0.7-DS...... Love it
thanks for helps

Hi, my G1 is currently running MLIGN Hero 3.0, I believe I have DangerSPL installed, not sure about the radio (Does it matter what Radio I have for that ROM?)
Im not sure if my SD is partitioned though??
Please could you give me a bit of a guide here , its been along time since I flashed my G1,
I think the process is, Wipe Data, Dalvik cache, wipe ext partition, then format SD, then Partition SD? Then toggle USB and place 1.5.1 Superbad onto the SD, then flash it and hope all goes well??
Thanks!! I appreciate it!! (Sorry to hijack your thread OP)
Super E, absolutely
I just bought an old G1 and am wanting to play a little and see if i can get the thing running a little better as it really is a cool phone. I am looking at of course trying to get Cyan6 on it and am seeing it needs DangerSPL for repartitioning the SD card. Now i assume a Class 6 (or very least class4) card would be needed for this. Also i see the on teh Cyan Wiki site it says to download the new radio first, 2.22.23.02. When i look under "About Phone", is see my radio is 62.50SC.20.17H_2.22.23.02. I imagine they are the same thing but i just want to make sure. Plus, if they ARE the same i imagine i don't need to download the other radio before i get started. One other question, does teh Danger SPL repartion for you or do you have to do it manually after you flash it? Thanks in advance for any help!

The REASON some people use the deathspl is BECAUSE it repartitions.
BUT THERE ARE MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER WAYS to do this!
DO NOT use deathSPL!
Use this instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=717874
ADVANTAGE: You get an extra 15 MB of usable internal storage! On a DREAM, that's a lot!
Thanks!!! I WOULD like to flash something that is not real likely to brick the phone.
Okay, there was A LOT of info in that thread... I am sorry to ask but could you possibly break that down into a little more simple terms?? Like, do i just flash the two downloads and they do the work?
Also, i read about "faking", would i have to fake to just download CM6?
Thanks again for the help and info!

This is the gist of it:
The kernel sets the partition layout, so if you want a different partition layout, you just need to tell the kernel the new layout you want to use.
The patches modify the boot partitions (boot and recovery) to contain a new kernel commandline with the new partition layouts.
The install procedure goes like this:
You have some modified recovery installed, so you install the recovery patcher. It is now permanently installed until you install a non-patched recovery image.
Then you reboot in order to load the new partition table.
Then you install your ROM -- recovery is aware of the new partition table.
When this new ROM installs, IT IS NOT aware of the new partition table -- so you need to install the boot partition patch. This always has to be done after flashing the boot partition, but if you DON'T flash the boot partition, you don't need to worry about it -- its done.
Real easy.
As for the "fake-SPL" thing... that is because cyanogen has committed an atrocity in his ROMS -- by detecting the SPL you have installed and only allowing install to certain ones. The "fake-SPL" just adds another parameter to the kernel commandline that tells cyanogen that a different SPL is installed than what you actually have.
REGARDING YOUR SPL SELECTION:
The best bet is to install 1.33.2003 (very important -- ends in a THREE).
This is the STRONGEST ENGINEERING SPL that there is, and it is fully 100% compatible with stock 0.95 SPLs and both 1.x and 2.x radios.
And yes, you already have the right radio installed, so no need to worry about that.
Thanks for the reply, this is extremely helpful!! I will try it this evening!
