Help a dummy install a ROM. - XPERIA X1 ROM Development

Okay, I'm not DUMB, but I don't understand all of this "flash" lingo and such that I see SOOOOO much over here
I really want to get a new ROM on my crippled WM 6.1 Xperia X1i. I don't know what is best for me. I have an 8GB SD card if that helps? The phone itself is 4GB...
I'm girly... I want something simple, but useful of course. Pretty to the eyes... I love pink and black??
I had to do a hard reset on my phone the other day in hopes to fix my messed up screen when i slide out the keyboard... No luck though. My phone's been constantly giving my error messages since i reset it so hopefuly something new will help it.
Thanks if anyone can help me, sorry I'm being so much trouble.

Before you flash anything, try reading this thread first and flash the required programs.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446070
After you ahve successfully flashed the HardSPL, you are now ready to flash your first ROM. You can choose from a variety available in this forum. There are those from Itje, smaberg, Agent_47 and NRGZ that are great. I suggest you flash your ROM's using the SD Method..read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=445662

OK guys need a couple suggestions...

I'm new to the PPC world, my 8125 gets here today or tomorrow and I've been looking into programs and all that I can do to optimize my experience with it. But given I don't have the phone yet and am a total newb regarding this, I was wondering, what are the first things I need to do to improve my PPC and get software/freeware onto it? Like can I just download the apps onto the device or storage card and install them or is there something I overlooked? Just tryna figure out what to do and what NOT to do... an overall list of must-have apps (freeware or not) would be nice to have too if someone's kind enough.
Anyways, thanks a lot and I'm pretty hyped about getting the phone and playing around with it
This could be a starting point, pretty comprehensive and well organised:
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/applications/128278-best-pocket-pc-freeware-starting-point.html
Rest you will figure out once you start using it. All the best.
cool, thanks for the help but i dont just want an app list, i want to know like what are the first things you should do to get ready for smooth operation, like (i still havent got this) wt is a/the ROM? is it something that doesnt come with the ppc and i gotta get it to be able to use something else? or does a stock one come with the ppc and im supposed to get a better one? stuff like that, cuz im like TOTALLY new to ppc, like i'll probably figure out most the stuff but I want to be safe first
I think you have been reading a lot about ROMS on this forum! Well ROM is nothing but the basic operating system on which the PPC runs most of the times these are customised by the operator you buy the phone from. So basic settings are there like GPRS, MMS, Homepage etc. You really don't need to worry about ROMs right now, first get the phone, play around, install 3rd party softwares and slowly you will figure out what is what. Keep reading the threads here, you will find a lot of knowledge from Gurus, but you gotta to be patient and read as much as you can. Because anything you try with ROM can be dangerous for the phone. You could even 'brick' it. You could even lose your warranty. So right now after you get the phone just toy around and have fun, forget ROM right now. And don't worry your phone is ready to run smoothly as it is.

YUP !!!
Very wise advise by Kull, the phone already comes with pre-installed OS (Rom) by the operator, you don't have to install it separately,it may be installed with the latest OS wm6,but even if it comes with a wm5 OS version Rom ,just use and enjoy it,get a grip of all the functions,it's hell of a device.
The Roms discussed here are mainly upgrades to wm6,which was launched later by Microsoft and the phones earlier came with wm5 Roms, therefore, people like to upgrade to wm6.It requires some procedures to unlock and upgrade with a risk of getting it Bricked,so it;s not advisable for you to consider it,as yet.ok
And ,of course, CONGRATS !!!
yh id rather stick with the OS it comes with for now but i was just wondering if i needed to upgrade anything to get some nice apps on it but nvm thnx a lot i think i might be gettin it today hopefully

Superstorage/clean Rom

Looking for the fastest, biggest storage, most stable ROM out there for the herald/wing.
want it to be almost like PANDORA NAKED ROM(in the hermes forum). Really looking forward for someone to create one or give me the link to it please.
Just want a rom that's completely clean without having excessive stuff.
Most Roms i see are all touch-it-related. not interested in that type of stuff because i think it's excessive. Not trying to sound rude though. just my opinion. Although i think it's fairly neat and a great creation.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350450
... but basically all u have to do is look here for all available ROMs http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358030
What ^he^ said.
There's not "true" bigstorage because of a limitation in the RUU flasher...
I'm researching a way around it but so far I haven't really found a way. My ROM is clean, though. And my kitchen will be released as soon (albeit MUCH smaller than originally planned) as I try to salvage what I can from the few backups I did in my external drive. (My pc burnt out.)

All 3 harddrives are unrecoverable short of sending them to a recovery company. The disks won't even spin anymore.
My external drive had a few things so it's not a 100% data loss... more like a 95% data loss... and the motherboard went, too... so I'm gonna have to put my pennies together to build a new pc.

recovery company -> you'll probably have to pay for that too?
Good luck with putting together pennies, I'm putting together euros myself for a new pc (only have an aged laptop).
I do much (underpaied) freelance work atm, it helps ...
Recovery companies are super expensive.. but I'll keep the drives for future recovery.
I'm also working on an aged laptop now. lol Unfortunately, I can't work on the ROM or many things while on it... well, I can through the external drive but it will be dog slow because of the slow as molasses usb that it has.
Appreciate it, but that's why I made this post.
I already looked at those ROMs and like I said...
Most of them are TOUCHIT ROMs.
I've seen and used ivanmmj's Beta Clean ROM, it's nice and all, but it's still in BETA and it's not cleaned and tweaked as i wanted it... it has HTC home plugin and some other stuff that i don't want on the device. plus there are some errors on running on the rom like the comm mgr button, wlan comm mgr and vibrate button not working but i managed to fix myself. Anways, good work ivanmmj and sorry to hear about your comp being fried...hope everything turns out all right.
If i'm sounding a bit demanding, i'm sorry, i was just wondering if there was a rom like this or not. and the quote:
someone's roms never fills a person's content unless they do it themselves.
Well, i'm not lazy and i'm actually VERY much interested in learning how to make a kitchen or at least learning how to make my own Rom. I've done it a few times, but the ROM file was already based off someone's elses rom.
If there's anyone willing to give me some tips or advice or want to help me learn, i'd take the offer in a hearbeat.
That's all i gotta say. sorry for the long post.
P.S. i already looked in the wiki...it's not thorough.
You'll never get one tweaked as you want it unless you cook it yourself. But, the HTC home plugin and other stuff on it is NOT on the final. The error with the com manager was fixed, the WLAN issue was fixed. The vibrate button was changed because the wing that I have DOES NOT have the vibrate like that. It has it on the keyboard, thus I never had something to work with in the first place.
I made a kitchen, but it's unreleased right now.

Putting full blown WinMo 6 Pro on the SnapVue

Is it possible? The stats on HTC's site says it's got an MSM 7200 400mhz proc in addition to the Stealy proc. If that is possible I'd consider getting one.
This issue has been addressed in significant detail on this site already. As a consideration to others, please use search or review the other posts.
Yes I did eventually see that. I apologize. But it's nowhere in the "Upgrading" section.
Hi I really want one!
I´m just afraid to order one and then find out that I can´t have full WM6 on it .... (for whatever reason...)
So, Any luck yet?
Did someone find out how to install and run other programs?
greetz,
Pfeffa-rah
its possible. im working with paul from modaco.com on it and this thing is locked down super tight. only hope is getting vista to see snapvue. all other ways are blocked.
i could do a rom for it if u guys want once its unlocked. unlocking full wm6 though might mean a device in my hands. im trying real hard to unlock it without one though. ask paul from modaco. working with him constantly on it and wow is this thing a pain.
Excellent - But is there an Intermediate step?
It is excellent that movement is afoot to overcome the crazy situation with SnapVue (of course I, like many Australians, still await the HTC Shift).
Of course WM6 would be excellent, but is there an intermediate step? Just getting SnapVue to talk to Outlook on Vista would probably do me fine given that my primary use for WM6 (or WM5 and older) has been outlook based ...
Oh, OK, and the use of WiFi, and the ability to look at documents and the internet would be good.
Anyway, I hope that those looking into this figure it out, as after all I never would be able to. Good luck.
pls where can i find info on upgrading to full blown win 6 for shift

Question regarding flashing my Diamond..

Heyya.
As you can see, I'm fairly new here. Drop that, I'm brand new as a newborn baby, about to be spanked for the first time. :S
I'm really tempted to actually flash my Diamond, but I see OliNex's Hard-SPL is version 1.30, while my Diamond's version is listed as 1.37.409.3, Norwegian version, which makes me unsure if it will be an upgrade or not to do this.
I just really don't want to end up with a very expansive paperweight, so any serious advice regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
(Regarding the Diamond itself, it's been an all right experience so far, except that it slows down to a standstill now and then, before everything is allright again.)
- Entrak
I thinks its not possible to brick the Diamond.
Hehe, still, I prefer to be better safe than sorry, if you get what I mean.
Ya like when i bricked my 360 oooo god it hurt!!!!!
You can get 2 or maybe 3 360 for what the phone costs. So ya ur right triple pain.

How to manipulate damage?

Ok tbh im sick of the x1...i got it changed 1 time already becouse of a crack in a case...got the new x1 with the new case model...so i guess i wont get the crack again. My question is How to manipulate damage to get the phone 2/3 times changed and after that to chose a new phone or money back...i still have waranty 1year...suggest good ideas not the stupid ones...

Hey, Orelsi is right.
I'm not sick about my X1. Actually you are complaining about the OS, Windows Mobile (the one you call "system"), so I do not see the point of intentionally damage your X1.
Yes, I am sick about X1 cracks, but if only I would have a no-crack X1 it would be my perfect device.
P.S.: btl, I have no lags and crashes (see my signature if you are looking for a fast & stable ROM). Are you with standard ROM? No, I suppose you are not. So, please put the original one back if you want a stable ROM, otherwise this is a developer forum, with instable stuff, so please accept its pros and cons.

I already have that. Maybe instead of spending your time trying to thinkk of ways to cheat someone, you should read some info/topics/etc. about your device.
I can't see how a software issue would be fixed by damaging your hardware anyway lol.

Actual WM 6.5 ROM are stable for daily use... at least for my standard daily use.
If you want something like "WOOOOW", try WM6.1 with Manila2, or NRG ROM WM6.5 with Manila 2.5 (didn't noticed any big bug) or WM6.1 with FEWidgetLite (it simulates Omnia widgets, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4275422), or SPB 3.0 (you can try it before buying) or PointUI and its endless number of widgets.
I think it is enough work for you for one month!
Obviously, if you think that just the iPhone deserved your "WOOOOOW"... then, why did'nt you bought an iPhone?!
I have tried many of the custom ROMs, but still prefer the generic ROMs, R3A with tweaks is perfect for me.
Remember that WinMo will never be super fluid or full of useless eye-candy (at least until WinMo 7 lol).
i cant believe such thread exists lol

Not to be a wise-ass, but if they are invisible how do you see them?
Anyway Elijus is suffering from a common problem. A user blaming his product inappropriately. Orelsi is happy with stock ROM, I got a custom ROM I like. If he flashed ROMs he didn't like its his own damn fault. Read the first post on any ROM thread.
Most importantly I don't think Elijus' conduct is appropriate. If you read the tone of his statements and the way he is blaming cooks for not making a perfect ROM that HE wants it is clear to me that he is displaying poor taste. I think he should remember that these cooks are doing all of us a favor and if he wants a stable phone, get a stable ROM. If he wants the latest he can try a newer 6.5 ROM, but don't be surprised when it is buggy.
To Elijus: Most importantly don't hate on those who provide a free service/product for you to use. Just because you are too petty and self-centered to say "Thank You," you just hate.
just send it in they will fix it ... after the 2nd try and its not done to your liking request a new device.
thats how i got my new x1 about 2 weeks ago.

As i told in my last post im not against anyone or anything and im not hating the cooks.Ofc i would thank them if i would get a rom that i could stay on...As u see everyone makes everything, everything is cool BUT still mostly not usable...maby the 6.5 from itje will come out good.tho i would like the clean rom not the f***** with widgets and stuff...ill put what i need by my self...about iphone-the phone is not the best and as u know in US the production costs only 178$ its i think way cheaper then x1 and i suppose the phone isint stronger then x1 but they DO have a OS that runs so nice and so good...ofc the os is not customiseable like our winmo...and thats where is the problem of a iphone and i think it gets fast booring.

Maybe you should do some googling/youtube of the phone you're looking at first before you get your phone.. and then go to the store and try it. They'll always let you try phones.. unless you're too shy to ask
Not many good customizable phones atm, mainly just the HTCs/iPhone.. what exactly are you looking for anyway?
