i am performing a few mods to brandenk kspec oreo theme (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475917) and would like to know where the file to change the color of the "clear notifications" button is located. if it is in framework-res.apk/res/drawable i cannot find it in there so if anyone knows the name of the file as well. any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
edit:the files are in framework-res.apk/res/drawable and they are the 5 files that have btn_default_small in the name. thank you to beagz for telling me the location

Hi there,
How do I change the icon of a folder I have in my start menu programs directory?
I have Duttys ROM and some of the folders like 'multimedia' already have an icon.
Thanks in advance!
I think the folder should have a "icon.lnk" pointing to the dll including the icon...
Someone can confirm ?
Hi guys,
I am trying to change some folder icons but I cannot find the way of doing it. It appears that the resource dll that is holding this information is shellres.dll but this cannot be accessed/copied/edites since is locked by the rom.
Any ideas/solution to this?
Thanks

To change the icon, right click the folder u like to change. move to properties->customize->change icon-> browse to locate the icon file -> click ok apply. Now U can see the change in folder icon from traditional to Ur favorite(Plain_Folder__Empty.ico).

Thanks for the guide... but the OP is referring to the Folder Icons in Programs (and/or Settings) in the Cooked WM ROMs not Windows XP.
Thanks

So, here's a short tutorial on how to create your own dll library and change folder icons.
what you need:
IcoFX get it here : http://icofx.ro/
ResHacker link here : http://delphi.icm.edu.pl/ftp/tools/ResHack.zip
and of cource ICONS get some here: http://www.iconarchive.com/
How it works...
Any customized folder has a shortcut inside pointing out the icon it should use
usually it's a icon.lnk file inside the folder.
and icons are usually stored in a DLL library...
So, what we have to do
1. Get some images and transform them into icon files ( .ico )
2. Create our DLL library
3. make the icon.lnk files that point to our specific icon
let's start.
After installing all the above programs and selecting some icons go and launch IcoFX
now go to Tools / Batch Convert
A new window appears
Add your icons / images,
select your icon sizes
select an output folder
hit ok
After it finishes hit ok.
Now go to Tools - Resource Editor
This should pop up
Now add your created icons
After that, hit save
Save your library with a .dll extension like in the above image.
Bam, you just created your own DLL library
Close the program
now to create the icon.lnk file
create a new text document
inside the shortcut looks like this:
1# is a parameter
myiconlib.dll is your icon library
-33 is the resource number where the icon is located within the resource dll
ok, how to find the right number for your icon:
Open up your DLL library with ResourceHacker
hit expand tree to see all the resources in the file
search for your icon
The icon number is very visible ( look at the image )
write the number in your text file like shown in the image. remember to put the "-"
so, another example:
1#MyLibrary.dll, -12
now, goto file , Save AS
Just to be sure select All Files in the Save as type bar
give the file the name: icon.lnk and hit save.
and you are almost done.
Connect via your phone via Activesync
Copy your Dll library right in the Windows folder
Copy your icon.lnk in the folder you want to customize.
And you are done.
Hope this comes in handy
Happy customizing
Nevermind, got it fixed Sorry for the trouble.
Great info! Thanks for sharing.
works great with changing a folder... how do you change just a shortcut?
Thank you very much
i dont nderstand this part , help please
now to create the icon.lnk file
create a new text document
inside the shortcut looks like this:
i have created the library.dll whit al the icons i want . i just dont understand this part above. i have to crate a new text document inside the shortcut? wich shortcut? i am lost in this part
I can't get it working, i did everything, i checked tree times but nothing works.
I GIVEUP
sorry by my inglish , i have being trying to make this shortcut but nothing works, i have being reading al the esteps over and over , but nothing works.i am tired to try to make i simple shortcut, tired to try to change the estar icon, tired to try to change waiting star icon , i just cant do it, nothing seems to work to me, maybe iam so stupid, KEEP THE GOOD JOB ,

Yes mate, as i told, did everything
lets see
Please attatch ur dll library qnd ur shortcut and ill take a look at it
Everything seems clear except:
"Copy your icon.lnk in the folder you want to customize."
It's confusing how to customize?
Does anyone still come here?
I followed the tutorial step by step and also I had no success! Could someone help me? Or anyone know which dll is the original folder icon? So I could change them directly in this dll.
I have attached the dll and icon.ink that i created, if someone can help me and verify that is correct.
Thanks

hello it looks ok....do you have reset your phone after copy the dll in Windows folder? This is very important because otherwise it dont will show the image....
Yes I did. Did not work. I tried to see in several dll where is the original icon of the folder to change but can not find.
ok you lost me towards the end. in your example you say your icon is -12, but you have -9 highlighted do you not?
also, how can i use this in a kitchen after i create my folders using oemizer?
Great tutorial, thank you very much!
I've created a tutorial about creating shortcuts to Feature Settings and Applications. Plus adding icons to these links. It has many xda-links to specialized shortcut applications!
For me it resulted in icons for MortScript
Your tutorial about creating icons for folders was missing!! Thanx again!
Senax
didn`t worked
thanks for your tutorial.
i tryed it but i had no success
in resco explorer it works in some cases, in others not and in the start menu i had no success.
Hi,
I am trying to get the transparent power control widget look (without any lights, just transparent icons that change from translucent to opaque as they are toggled off and on).
I applied the metamorph, but that didn't appear to work. I then used AndExplorer to copy my Settings.apk file to my SD Card to manually change the PNGs, however what I found was that metamorph HAD done its job correctly and changed those PNGs to the transparent ones. However, even after rebooting when I add the Power Control Widget the Cyanogen 'stock' grey w/ blue lights widget appears.
How can I get this to work correctly for me?
I have attached my Settings.apk file.
For reference, I am running CyanogenMod 5.0.8-DS.
I am trying to apply this mod: ht tp://ww w.droidforums.net/forum/droid-themes/31939-mm-extra-clear-power-control-widget.html
Same here. Looks like it's being applied to the system but nothing changes when I reboot the phone. Someone help please.
The only thing I can think of is that maybe the Power Control Widget icons are now being stored in a different location...

I've found a way to do it. You need Ninjamorph and do it manually. I guess it's created for the hdpi phones and you need to copy the image to the mdpi folder.
The image you need to edit is in system/app/settings.apk. Open it with Ninjamorph and go to res/drawable-mdpi and change the appwidget_bg.9.png with a 68x68 transparent image. (You can just copy it over from the zip file and resize it in Ninjamorph). After that press finish project to apply the changes and you are done!
Yup, those are the images I replaced as well. This is very confusing...
Anyone have a solution?
Well, that link you posted to the metamorph, replaces the background file in: Settings\res\drawable-hdpi
Then upon checking your Settings.apk you posted, it confirmed that it was placed to the drawable-hdpi
And since you are using the Dream/Sapphire branch, your phone will not use that directory, it uses Settings\res\drawable-mdpi
So your solution would be correctly placing it in Settings\res\drawable-mdpi and not Settings\res\drawable-hdpi
All mods are at the bottom of this post.
Here is a simple way to change system icons on your application drawer. I was looking for a guide to do this but I couldn't find any so I gave it a try and it worked. So I decided to post the method here for like minded people who wanted to change the system icons in their app drawer and not only on the homescreen.
I will show an example of changing the contacts icon. To change the icons of some other app you just have to pull the relevant apk. I know this looks long and tiresome but bear with me and the results will amaze you. After a few times it becomes really easyYou have to be rooted to do this
A couple of things to note
a. You can change icons in framework-res.apk, SystemUI.apk or any other apk this way too.
b. Please note that the icons you replace should be of the same dimensions.
c. The specific icons name inside the drawable_hdpi might change. Sometimes its icon.png. Sometimes its ic_launcher_XYZ. Just use your head and replace the correct png.
d. The files are located either in system/app or data/app depending on whether its a system file or a data file. System files have to be pushed. Data files have to be installed.
Changing Icons works for all ROMS
1. Download android-sdk from here http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
2. Install all libraries.
3. Install jdk from here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
Make sure you download jdk and not just jre.
4. Download apk manager from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701
5. extract apk manager inside platform-tools inside android-sdk folder. Should be something like this
C:/Android-sdk/windows/platform-tools/("extract apk manager here")
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. Open cmd
7. Navigate to the platform-tools folder. (Simple DOS commands)
8. Do "adb pull /system/app/HtcContacts.apk" (-Do this without the quotes. If you want to change the icon for, lets say the camera, then instead of HtcContacts.apk, type HTCCamera.apk. To see all the system files just navigate to system/app on your phone using es file explorer or root explorer or any other file explorer you fancy. You can see all the system apks and you can pull anyone you want)
9. Ok so now the HtcContacts.apk should be in the platform-tools folder. Paste it into the folder "place apk here for modding".
10. Start script.bat (apk manager) from the platform-tools folder.
11. Choose option 22 to select a project
12. Choose the number of the project. In this case it would be 1.
13. Choose one again on the next screen. This will extract the apk to the projects folder.
14. Now get to the folder res/drawable-hdpi/ on your windows explorer.
15. Replace people.png with the icon of your choice. Please remember that your new icon has to be of 72x72 dimension and should have the same name. You can also replace other pngs like dialer and stuff.
(Next step is only for system files)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
16. Select option 3 on the apk manager cmd
17. Now select 8. This is a system apk and so we have to retain the system signature.
18. Enter the full path of the file ( system/app/HtcContacts.apk)
Follow these steps for data files
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
19. Select 7.
20. Wait for install.
Here are my mods. Please note that I have not made these icons and tweaks. I have just put them all together in one place. If you want to give any credit then please follow the developers.
These are designed for sense based Roms. Please DO NOT try with any other rom. Just download and push to system/framework/framework-res.apk. Please note : This is for the older sense (sense 2.0) Do not try with newer sense.
To get transparency you have to use this file -- Transparency Hack -- through metamorph. I will make this into a flashable zip once I understand how to do that.
App icons are from Tenuis theme - Images

Hi I dont use bettercut but does it let you change the system icons in the app drawer. you know the drawer that comes up when you press the menu on the launcher???
Edit: OK i just tried bettercut. Using this you cannot change system icons in the app drawer. You are only changing icons on the homescreen, basically shortcuts. You could do that with launcherpro, desktop visualizer and 10 other apps.

Simple Java app to edit .apk files with a nice GUI
You're Just Awesome THNX man !
Nice guide
Ninjamorph lets you edit and change out images within apk files right on your phone. Its a free app on the market.
Still a very nice guide though!
thanks .. i was just looking to put up something which you could use to edit any apk on your phone .. the thing with ninjamorph is that it wasn't working for me. And plus I prefer to do it this way. Gives me more area.
EDIT: Anyone wants to see an MIUI framework on your sense?? I am thinking about getting the exact MIUI framework over to our sense based ROMs. As you can see in my framework I have already copied some of the elements. I am thinking about getting the power toggles and removing the current apps from the notification pulldown.
