I might be a senior, but we're all still learning
So my question is, when you wipe/reflash something, is there a way to keep all the Protected/Paid apps installed when you start up? Normally, a wipe will break all of your protected/paid apps and list them in the launcher as "com.XXXX.XXXX" or even "org.XXX.XXX". Launching them results in the infamous Force Close box.
This is indeed on Apps2SD and with Cyan's new 3.9
Have you tried running the fix_permissions script?
I'll reboot and run it now
Didn't fix them, unfortunatly :/

Back up all your apps using MyBackupPro or Backup for Root Users. I have all mine on my sd so they re-install automatically. I don't have to do anything, and they don't load up as com.xxxxx.htc.. blah. But I use Backup for Root Users when I do have to format my ext2 and this brings them back no problem.
Hmm interesting. I've never used Backup for Root Users with apps, just the data. Takes too long for me with all my apps...but I managed to find the spare time to re-install, that was fun . Thanks guys!
my advice to anyone on here who is going to play with anything on their phone:
before you do it, make sure you have enough time allotted to fix EVERYTHING, as if you were starting from scratch. that way, before you begin, you can have the peace of mind to know that if anything goes wrong, you've got all the time you need to fix it.
murphy's law: whenever you think you're in for a quick fix, theres a long road ahead of you.

Wouldn't hurt to have a backup unlocked GSM phone too. That's one of the nice things about GSM-based technologies... if your phone dies for whatever reason, pop the sim out and put it in a backup phone. You'll still be able to be contacted while you fix the primary device.
I had this issue too with the same Rom and with the previous version. This is how I solved it.
First I deleted all apps, etc from my SD card while it was connected to my Mac, just made it easier. (I was also running a previous Apps2Sd, not the one built into the mod, which I believe was the root of the issue. I didn't use the old apps2sd once I upgraded the ROM, and I may be way off but I find it suspect.
Then I wiped and reinstalled the ROM. Yea I had to reinstall my apps but...
...before doing all that I had tried removing and then reinstalling an app. A reboot/power cycle of the G1 would result in the icon being gone again and that ugly error message in regards to the app.
When I did the step I mentioned prevously, delete, wipe, etc I've not had any further issues.
I've also since updated by fs from ext2 to ext3 but that was after the fact.
Cyan's mod is by far my favorite and consistently stable and well documented. I'm glad I was able to correct my issues.

Have to agree completely with the above. Hope for the best but plan for the worst.

Did you manage to find a solution to this problem? If you did, could you please post it. I flash different ROMs often. Having to reinstall my paid apps over and over again is starting to get very annoying.
Haven't tried yet. I might try the MyBackup Pro option, as I heard it's a great app anyways. But I know what you mean
Trying very hard to keep the Internal Storage on my Eris @ 50% . Wonder how low I can really go before I run into issues ???? Too bad I'm not rooted otherwise I would move/install some of my apps to my 16GB MSD card.

Just try to make sure you're only hanging on to apps you actually use versus something that was cool for like 10 minutes and then forgotten. I would also reccomend wiping dalvik cache every now and then. Also there's a cool little app called app monster that allows you to store apps on your sd card. you can't run them but if its something you dont want to get rid of then you can have a back up.
why does it matter if your internal storage is at 50%?
Maybe a bit of obsessive complusive (not saying this to be derogatory) mixed with hoping to keep his phone as fast as possible?
Don't know about the compulsive part, but yeah I am looking to keep my phone "mean and lean". I gather I can load up my phone with tons of Apps and not be concerned about how little storage space I wind up with. By the way I am a Windows person , and learned the hard way . Tis not the case with Android?
Yea, the system paths are set up a little different in that respect. What's holding you back from rooting? If you're leaked, I understand, and sympathize. If it's warranty issues, then you can always recover and go back to stock. If you aren't sure how to do it, well there are plenty of how-to's and helpful people here. Apps 2 SD is pretty nice, and that's just the beginning...muahaha.
I was leaked the day it came out in March ..just my luck . Just wondered about space. Saw/heard on another forum where someone ran out of space and ran into issues. To me this is the best forum to get positive answers
Okay its realy anoying....
I have to much apps on my internal memory so i moved some to sd card. And after 10apps my touchpad says sd card removed insert a new one. Wtf...... --" and all my sd apps wont work any more did a reset backup all 3times and every time when i try coping some apps tonsd itbstar again. And now sd works but have like 50% of sd card games gone or force close.
Anyone had same problem??? Or is there a fix?
Yeah remove apps and blablabla but i have a lot of games who i like and apps are little and also he says that im runing low on memory sometimes andii have -200mb over.
Its realy ****...
I noticed this too. There seems to be a limit to how many apps you can have installed until the SD card starts acting wierd. My solution was to uninstall a bunch of apps I do not use. I haven't seen the error since.
yeah

Check for updates. Just got it. 521.5mb update. January security patch along with a volume patch.
Seem to have volume issue still after update..
No volume issues here. But I never had them.

Question - Do you have the JBL speaker mod?
Is it out already?!
CONFIRMED: Downloaded the security patch-NCL25.86-11-4-6, and it fixed my low volume problems.
Downloading now, sound issue never happened to me.
I personally would recommend removing your SD Card before updating.

Uh... And why is that? No issues with SD card here. Unless your SD card had a pre-disposition to fail, I see no reason removing it would change anything.

I don't know, but it might be a good idea to remove it. I applied the update and the SD card showed up as corrupt. I rebooted, cleared cache, etc. several times and finally ended up taking the SD card out, copying it to my computer hard drive, putting it back in the phone, formatting, and copying everything back. Not hard to do, but you are copying files for hours. I never had issues with the SD card before. I have a lot of music and some photos on it. Works fine again after the above steps. On other forums there have been complaints of the same thing, so it is just not a single person having trouble.

Personally, I'd rather have my sd card corrupted during an upgrade and I'd end up scanning the hell out of it afterwards. Everytime I've had sd cards get corrupted, it ended up dying shortly after.
A question of personal experiences, I guess!

it's not the card. It's the update on some phones. If you have adoptable storage you're going to lose lots of data.

that's probably the worst case. It seems the phone stops reading the cards but they can taken out and the data is still accessible from a computer.

We got this update too on Z play, yesterday. I have a vzw phone, updates are disabled via a dummy app. I do not want to loose the ability to block N when it comes.
Any one care to try the dummy app to see if this patch fixes my work around?

I am (and was) using the SD card as portable. It hasn't died since I went through the steps to get it working again. I am personally convinced that it had something to do with the update. I couldn't say what the cause was, but my observations point to the update causing some issue with the card. Although it was easily fixed it did take some time.

Aviwdoodks, no I didn't know that. Sorry I've been having some issues with Verizon and haven't even tried anything you suggested yet. Also been switching between a few different devices lately. I haven't used either my ZPlay or ZForce for about 2 weeks. I'm hoping to this next week.
But thank you for pointing that out. I had no idea.
on the new update does hotspot still work with taking out the sim card tray?
So I noticed on Friday every app (Discord/Signal/Twitter/etc) that used WebViewer was crashing and wouldn't open. I traced it down to the Chrome app and disabled the Chrome app on the phone and everything worked. However, I wasn't able to uninstall or install the latest version of Chrome on the phone, even after re-enabling the app. Not a problem I thought, I'll just Restore from a Titanium backup. However when I did it put the phone into a boot loop. Crap, I'll restore from a Nandroid backup. Nope same thing. So I wiped the System/Dalvik/cache and downloaded the full Rom from OnePlus's website and did a fresh Flash. Same thing. If I try to Format the phone all way it freezes on the data and then goes into a dead android state.
Does anyone have any ideas? Preferably I would like to avoid wiping the phone to zero, but if I have to I have to. If it comes to that, does anyone have a good Rom recommendation for just playing games and taking calls?

Suggestions for what?
Unfortunately these signs you described are leading to memory chip failure (sudden death, hang on formatting data).
If you could boot into TWRP, I'd suggest backing data up to your PC, as much as possbile.
You may try your luck with an unbrick tutorial (without or with data wipe).

Yeah TWRP isn't an issue. That I can get into and it is my fault that I should have mentioned that I have already tried the unbrick methods.
I guess I was hoping that it really hadn't fallen to a hardware failure and more along the lines of something I did. I'll be honest in saying that I was really hoping there was a bit of knowldege that I was missing or that somebody would just be like "Nope, I've run into this before. Go in and change this flag from 1 to 0 and do this step you overlooked.".
Either way thank you for your time and responses and many thanks for taking time out to respond back to me.

No problem; sorry for your loss, but you know, that's perversity of inanimate objects. I had similar case with my laptop, when SSD died - poof and data is gone
I had the same on my old phone I just got a new sd 32GB and that was all of my extra Money and less than 2 weeks it broke and had to go back to 8gb
